Hi everybody. Welcome to another episode of Star Citizen Live Game Dev Intragalactic Noodle Delivery. Intragalactic, which we thought it was going to be intergalactic like the Beastie Boys song and then I looked it up and I'm like no, intergalactic is between galaxies intragalactic is within the galaxy, which is more appropriate for the Star Citizen universe. And so we're here with vehicle concept artist Sarah McCollum. Sarah, how are you doing? I'm doing very well. Uh, how are you doing? I'm doing well. time This this is our this is our third one of these if I remember correctly. Uh, well the well the the second one of this type. Uh, we've been on the show twice before. Uh, the first time we we created a ship concept from scratch using using a bunch of various modular parts. Uh, that was the
- 00:00:52
Anvil Overkill. That's the one. Maybe we'll take a look at that before we get started. Um, and then we had you on again to go through some of your process create you've moved on to making a lot of the more recent Crusader ships like the like the Star Runner and stuff like that. We explored your work on that and the Carrick and and and stuff like that. Um, today we are going back to where we started and we are going to create a ship brand new using modular components. Uh, tell us you have you have determined what we're making today. I I I didn't pick for you. What have you decided that we're making? I I also thought it'd be cool to make a Crusader style delivery truck. Um, I think it'll be you know, it's it's quite fitting fitting at the moment with what what's you know, with like we've just had the the sale and things like
- 00:01:40
that. So it'd be nice to just have a bit of a concept with Crusader and see what we can come up with and hopefully it'll be something fun and something that people be like oh, that's interesting. Uh, now it's interesting you you didn't know this when you picked it, but back in April of 2016 if I remember correctly, uh, one of our April Fool gag back then was Intergalactic Food Delivery where we developed a developed a Big Benny's Reliant if I remember correctly. Let me Let me see if I can bring that up here before we before we get going here. So we'll switch to you and we'll bring this over here. And you you can still see this on our website now, guys. This was Intergalactic Food Delivery. This was our April 1st gag from 2016. You can see our Big Benny's themed Reliant
- 00:02:27
that we did in our Big Benny's delivery outfit. It was done by the character team. We also have a menu of various Big Benny's items. And then of course we had a little video and stuff like that. But yeah, Intergalactic Food Delivery has been a has been a career promise since April 1st, 2016. And you know, today we we we we we we make good on that a little bit. So why don't you go ahead and share your screen, Sarah? And we'll we'll get started. Yeah, so this was what we did, wasn't it? Like um That was a few months ago which we we did the the un-blue overkill and uh you guys like picked all the pieces for it and it and this is what we came up with and it was just like more weapons, more guns, bigger engines and uh It was definitely overkill.
- 00:03:17
It was definitely the overkill, yeah. uh you know, it was a lot of fun so I thought like we could just continue to to do that with But now with Crusader parts. Yeah, with like some Crusader stuff that I just whipped up and um I thought it'd be pretty cool of like, you know, you guys can suggest like certain sections again and we can in fact make a few of them. Like we don't have to just make the one, we can make like a couple which I thought would be pretty cool and um you know, can start with like say, Cool. This one. Why don't we Why don't we start by getting rid of my picture in the corner? Just drag me off of screen there. We don't People don't to see me here, though. Hi. Bye. Bye. Bye. uh yeah, we'll I'll turn the floor over to you. Okay, so what I'll do is I'll just start with I'll just start with like a basic one for now. So
- 00:04:05
I quite like this shape. So we'll just pick We'll just pick him for now. Um and we'll just pop him over here and then we'll just just start to build them up a little bit. And this is kind of what I do already for like my my concept processes. Like I'll just make a series of like little shapes um and start to like build it up and and start to just add like little details. And just It just kind of adds to like the you know, it's you know, it's be feeling a bit solid and you know, we start I can start to see like little bits and just add in detail and you know, cuz Crusader is quite um it's quite clean and soft. So you don't want to add too many um like panel lines and things like that, but you just want to
- 00:04:51
make sure that you've got that you know, like the flow right um by adding these certain things and um you know, that's one thing about uh Crusader as well is the visibility. So I always like to add, you know, a little bit of extra visibility. So this would be quite cool where you've got like a quite a large cockpit and like on the Mercury where you've got the uh the double um glass effect where you know, you could potentially walk on this section here and then you know, have like a really nice like sort of drop down and you can see what's below you. Mhm. Which would be cool, I think. Now I have to say uh all of our different manufacturers have you know, style guides and things that are that are signature to to them. Um you've been working a lot with Crusader
- 00:05:39
recently. That's why we're working here with Crusader today. Have you considered adding more struts? Could Could Could you just like try adding six or seven struts for me? No, sorry. I don't want No, no. I If anything, less. And we could like could even add the, you know, maybe like something above as well. So, you've got like this whole vista, you know? I I'm all about, you know, more glass. You know, you can even add like stuff like another panel here and have like a like a proper cool visibility. Oh. Make sure our delivery driver can absolutely see where they're going. Yeah. Look, this is precious cargo. If you If you're not delivering your cargo, you're crashing into everything, then, you know, it's a terrible design on my part. So, it's
- 00:06:28
like I want to make sure that you can get to where you're going. Um and deliver what you need to deliver without bumping into stuff. That, you know, you never know what you're going to encounter in space, do you? So, it's, you know, I As a designer, I want to make sure that you can have pure visibility. You know. I As I say, it'd be cool because I say you you're cockpit can essentially like just could potentially like float over there and you could sit here and you can see and, you know, it's what I'm all about. Eventually, you're going to end up with a ship made entirely of glass. Oh. Well, like is it Wonder Woman? Not Wonder Woman. Yeah, the Invisible Jet. Is it Wonder Woman? Yeah, yeah, that's it, isn't it? And she's just sat there just flying just just randomly through the clouds,
- 00:07:16
um which is which always looked a bit looked a bit odd, I thought. and like these midsections as well are like attachments, so it's like I'll just attach this midsection um just to to help bulk to help bulk the bulk the boy out. So, we'll just add this here. That's another thing with Crusader, it's got this It's another thing about Crusader, it's got it's this hump that that it has um so I just wanted to make sure that I um you know you followed its style language when I'm when I'm connecting these parts. Uh and as I say it's not too dissimilar to to how I do you know very quick concepts. Now does does the hump have any practical purpose or is it just a stylistic choice?
- 00:08:05
It's a stylistic choice on my end cuz we when we first did the Crusader we looked at the Genesis Starliner and we we wanted to keep some of its its core shapes and things like that. So when we did the the Starlifter and the the the Star Runner we kept some of its elements and one of the elements was that they had like a like a hump on it which we thought was pretty cool. Uh so it kind of just transitioned across all of the all of the new ones that we've done. and it looks looks cool. It kind of adds to its silhouette which is nice. Um so but yeah as I said We're all big fans of the Genesis Starliner here.
- 00:08:54
I'd say It's the official ship of Star Citizen life. I just decided right now. It should be. It's it's a cool ship. With this now that's got like a attachment sort of midsection. You can kind of go down here where the goodness is and like you know you've got your cargo. And then you can like start to add um your cargo to it your precious noodle cargo. So you can start kind of like be like right this is primarily delivering big batches of noodles. So you've obviously done some work on this uh before prior to the show here. There's you decided on external uh
- 00:09:45
uh some kind of external apparatus for the for the cargo containers? Yeah, so this would be like almost almost what I imagine like mag plates to be. And like all your your cargo container could like drop down like on hydraulic system and like pick them up and then pull them up. So, it's like you know, you don't have the So, that loading's a bit easier for you instead of you know, like manually like loading it with like a crane or something like that. This thing can just come across, grab them, and pull them back up to its um to its surface and then they can sit there and off you go with your uh you know, your car your precious noodle cargo containment and stuff. So,
- 00:10:33
um that that's my that's my thinking anyway on on this is like it's always, you know, how can I make uh people's lives easier when um you know, when we're making this kind of thing and uh mag plates definitely do it for me for this because it's these can be quite big really containers. So, Yeah, cuz thinking about it, it's I mean, it would be easy enough to you know, take something like a star lifter or whatever and just load it up with a bunch of internal you know, shipping containers you know, full of bennies, but if you're if you're trying if you're trying to design something purpose-built as a as a delivery vehicle uh you know, where it where it clearly says this is for this purpose kind of thing. Uh having this stuff on the exterior is
- 00:11:21
probably one of the only ways to really communicate that. Yeah, that that's it. So, it's like it's just thinking about those you know, those little things that you know, really do um like help with just the design and making it feel a bit more, you know, solid. Uh, rather than, you know, as I say, like loading things little by little and I was actually, cuz I live by a farm, I was looking at all the hay stackers and they've got like these big bars that go across and it's all external. Um, so I was thinking like maybe some sort of, like I say, this container, like some sort of grabber or sort of so some sort of magnetic plate would be pretty cool. Um, and that's how I come up with this idea, cuz there's a lot of farmer machinery by mine.
- 00:12:09
Um, and that's how I get a lot of ref for a lot of this stuff. I feel like there's I feel like maybe inadvertently or maybe intentionally, you know, you tell me, there's some MISC influence here. It It definitely looks like Crusader took a look at the the Hull series and said, "How could we make it better?" Yeah, that's what it like it's it is it influenced by MISC because you know, cuz we do have the Hull. It's and which I think is really like such an awesome idea to have all this like, you know, this external cargo and you can see it and there's there's some of the shapes as well are really nice and I like the you know, like the the thrusters and things like that, the shapes of them and
- 00:12:56
things and you know, you know what Crusader like they've been building ships for the longest so they're kind of like, you know, how could we make it Yeah. bigger and better. Well, you you you see it a lot in the real world, too. Popular designs from one manufacturer tend to influence their competitions. Like when the like when the new like when the Dodge Charger came out, you know, the new Dodge Charger came out like 10 or 15 years ago now and then you you started seeing oh, you know, the Chevy redo the Camaro and and Ford redo the Mustang all in similar styles. Yeah, that's it. It's like um Well, at one stage, wasn't it the like like cars change from very like like box shape to bubbles and now everyone seems to be like copying each other like the
- 00:13:46
front bits and like like Ford have done it recently with it is like that they're trying to copy isn't it the Aston Martin fronts and um Right. You just see them like influencing each other and it is it is kind of cool because you get like a pretty pretty much like a reasonable price car looking pretty sweet. Um you know, help comp- competition's healthy I reckon. It's It's you know, drives things to look better and um influence um each other so There's a word for it. It's It's the zeitgeist. It's It's you know, common influence that affects multiple you know, different projects and and ideas. You see it when you when you see three volcano movies come out at the same time from three different studios and stuff like that. You know, the these
- 00:14:33
ideas that they they take hold and influence multiple manufacturers across multiple industries. Yeah. Well, that's it, isn't it? It's like you you just see it and as I say, like I said before, competition's good. It's It's healthy so I was starting to see some questions from the chat. And again, if you're if you're uh watching if you have a question for Sarah, uh Sarah is our concept artist that is working on a Crusader Industries food delivery vehicle this week. I just sort of hanging out for an hour, goofing off, having some fun. Um one of the important questions This might This might be a question for design as opposed to a concept, but we're going to pose it to you anyway, Sarah. Okay. Uh put your designer hat on for a minute. Oh, okay. Okay. Can the noodles be a form of heat sink
- 00:15:21
to both keep the noodles warm and cool the ship components. Mhm, that's a that's a very good question. I mean, have you seen those videos where like people have like sculpted toilets out of them and stuff and like like utilize them for just like making false nails out of them and things like that. I I don't think that's the same thing. Well, as I said, you can I think at this point it's like they can be used for for anything. I think like I think I would I would use it as I could probably fashion it into some sort of heat sink. Like you'd open up your your like, you know, your ship item and instead of like a fuse Yeah, I I I I I I it's just the I I like like the ship power components would be on on the exterior next to the crate so that they could keep the
- 00:16:09
noodles warm. Yeah, that it's I mean it's not a bad idea. It's It's definitely It's definitely thinking with the somebody's noodle. Uh-huh. First time joke. Do you know the base joke? No. Let's see. for that to happen. Uh we do have a suggestion. Uh can the side have a holographic billboard or some advertising that says Big Benny's? Now, you you do see Big Benny's on the side of the the cargo containers, but maybe once once we get to a I I should I shouldn't jump into it right now, I guess. Yeah, let's do it now. Let's let's do it now. Okay. Let's let's see. Let's let's let's have a look. Give me a copy of this cuz you know Uh there we go. There we go. Okay. I told holo hologram. Oh, let's go.
- 00:17:01
Like where do where do you think though? Like on the on the side or on the top or like Just big and giant rotating on the top. Yeah, like it annoyingly I'll have to move the ship down actually cuz it cuz it would be so big. It'd be It's clipping off the the page. Okay. Okay, let's do this. Let's do this. Come on. Yeah, get rid of you. We want bigger and better. Right. Okay. Yeah, fab. Nice. Massive way. So, and then you just make it like Is that what what you mean to put like a holo shader on it and stuff? You don't have to do it here in the Photoshop. But
- 00:17:48
yeah, like it would go I mean, you can't you can't kind of kind of do it. But it's like you need to just do it in slight adjustment and like like whoa. Like make it all funky like and then And then you know, you'd have like a sort of like a light source or something underneath that would be like Um, you know, projecting the the hologram and you could be like, "Hey, look. Big Ben. This is how it's done." Yeah. And then of course the face on the on the cup would change the different emojis. Yeah. Yeah. Like if you bumped into an asteroid, you'd be like, "Oh." Yep. We tied into the the the the the ship status system. So, if you if if you if you're in like, you know, a yellow alert or red alert, it like
- 00:18:35
changes to mean and angry. Yeah, that's that's it. If you get an attack, so obviously you'd need like, you know, some sort of weapon like this. You know, if you can just like stick it on and you know, cuz as I say, you have to You have to protect, you know, your your precious cargo. I mean, you know, it's like I'd be I'd be offended if you didn't have a good amount of wea- like weapon power or something cuz it's such, you know, such precious cargo. And as I say, with the mercury, like you can see your weapon underneath. So, it's like Just make it like one giant A-10 Warthog style gun to be at the front. Cuz you I mean you don't want to a delivery vehicle shouldn't have too much weaponry, but one just super reliable Yeah, it should be like hidden like the
- 00:19:24
A-10 as well, shouldn't it? Like like in it's like it's the whole length of the of the ship. Oh, the big bennies yeah, let's just like go for it and stuff. But yeah, like that would be like a first example um of like something that I would something that I would do and then you know, we've got a bit more a whole type and then we've got a couple of more different types of um front ends. I'd go with this one. Uh question from the chat. What was your first concept for Star Citizen? Um my first concept was a fire extinguisher. A sci-fi fire extinguisher that had to have different foam different types of foam in it. Um so, the fire extinguishers that you see uh
- 00:20:13
around uh I think it's at Port Olisar uh are like mine from when I first started like 6 years ago when I when I was innocent and all and um you know, just just did fire extinguishers. Did you hear that we that Star Citizen just had its first kill with a fire extinguisher? Yeah, if if you if you haven't checked it out guys, the community team uh ran a wonderful uh Theaters of War AMA on Spectrum uh this week. It's still up there you can check out, see the answers from uh Sean Tracy and Johnny Desivias and the rest and some of the other uh TOW crew on there. And then one of the one of the data points they were able to reveal was uh through the new metrics they discovered that uh somebody got a kill with a fire extinguisher in
- 00:21:01
Theaters of War in Theaters of War testing. They still have uh uh They to know yet yet to figure out how. But they know what happened. Amazing. I'm like I'm so proud. It's like when It's like when a fan made that, it was like I didn't think someone would be able to do that with, you know, my fire extinguisher. And if you don't want to go rummaging through the entire spectrum thread, I think there's a there's a com link that was posted this morning on the website that actually collects all the data in one nice easy-to-read thing, so you can check that out, too. Oh, that's awesome. I'm going to have to I'm going to have to check that cuz I'm going to have to see how how it transpired, basically. Cuz that's going to be so cool to see. What was your first uh ship concept for Star Citizen?
- 00:21:49
Mercury. The Mercury? yeah, Star Citizen uh the Sorry, the Star Runner. The Mercury, yeah, it was my very first one that I ever did. Um I'd worked on other ones, like but just like in terms of like like pieces, so it was like parts of corridors or uh you know, like engine rooms, like the Starfarer engine room um I did way way back. Um Right, you you you were you you were assisting on other uh concepts for the first for the first couple years you were here. Yeah, that's it. That's it, yeah. I I I I doubled in quite a lot before I'd started on the the Star Runner. it was it was interesting cuz I kind of learned from the ground up. All the stuff that I needed to know, which was really cool. And it's fun.
- 00:22:36
It's it's interesting. I I hadn't put that together. Your your first uh your first ship you got to, you know, run on your own was a Crusader. Uh my first uh ship promo that I got to run as, you know, as as the point person creating the whole promotional page and everything was for the Genesis Starliner, which was the first Crusader ship. That's amazing. Yeah, so that's that's why I like this the Genesis Starliner so much. It was the It was the first time uh the company let let me go let me go with a with a promo and say take the reins. That's why when you go to the if you go to the if you find the old Genesis Starliner promo page that's why it's a whole choose your own adventure thing about trying to get home to see your sick sister and there's a bunch of a spaceport audible noises and and stuff like that. It's a
- 00:23:25
It was cool. I liked it. That's cool. Yeah, I like the It was really cuz like obviously it was it was a cuz it was the first one that I ever did. I was I was so nervous because it was like you know you just there's always a party that's just like I hope it goes well. I hope you know it's received well and you know you it's just because it's like this artist thing I guess built into you. It's you know you trying to you know make something that is good and you people like and as I say it was just all my combination of stuff over the last couple of years into one thing. That is definitely that is definitely Crusader just looking at MISC and going anything you can do we can do better. Oh yeah, that's what Crusader about. I
- 00:24:13
say I I I I love Crusader so I'm all about like you know bigger and making it like expanding it and making it you know better and just like adding to its family and stuff like that. So that's that's that's what I want. That's what I want to do. Now are you suggesting that that one expands and collapses just like the whole series does? Maybe. I mean I don't see why not. I think it'd be I think it'd be fun. So so do it or or or or like I say it's got like you know it's got that section and it also has like some sort of magnetic plate as well. So you've got like this you know this double thing going on where you can have like extra cargo storage or you know,
- 00:25:02
maybe you know, if you're opening a store, you could grab some of these like you know, vending machines and things like that. I'll just shrink them down like you've got like a special delivery of like you know, just like little vending machines that you can stick to this. I I also said so you you've got the giant crates in the back for you know, your mass market stuff, but then specific specific module for the delivery of vending machines. Yeah, that's it. So you've got like a all-in-one package. You know, you've got like your shop stuff and then you know, you're you're basically set and you know, that's what that's what Crusader is all about selling stuff cuz I'll say they've been building ships for one of the longest times. So you think they'd be pretty good at it by now, right?
- 00:25:48
Well, I'm looking at this now and one of my favorite aspects of the Star Citizen community is is their pension for repurposing things for intentions not originally designed and I'm looking at your your rack of vending machines and I'm thinking about those prisoner pods that were included in the in the Cutlass Blue and it's like you're sitting here you're you're making a noodle delivery truck, but you're inadvertently making prisoner transport. You can just get rid of that. You can just like you can just get rid of that can't you and just put like a little prisoner pod in there and then just be like pick people up. That's perfect. I didn't even think of that.
- 00:26:35
Oh no, what have I done? What is it with me and making stuff like this? Like I said with the like on the Mercury I did the under like venting underneath and then people like I can throw bodies underneath in the venting system and I was like oh man, I was like I didn't even think of that. I didn't even think of that. Uh Klesk 3000 says, "This is how Benny's hinge got made." Actually, Benny's hinge got made by me sitting down with Luke Presley and hitting him with 40 terrible, terrible ideas and him and him picking one that was the least terrible, he thought. Oh. Benny's hinge turned out really, really good. I'd say it was great that it was like a little Easter egg um that people went to and stuff and that's what I love is like Easter eggs um in games uh cuz they're always fun to go and
- 00:27:23
find. I've learned I've learned over the years that if you hit if you hit people with one or two ideas, it's easy to ignore them. But, if you hit them with 40 or 50 ideas, then you just you saturate their brain. Yeah. That's That's what you want, isn't it? And you get loads of like loads of ideas going and you just think I didn't even I didn't even think of that. Like that's But, that's what makes it so awesome is like all these people just join in and just make some crazy stuff up, which is which is, you know, what these these For me, this stream is like all about is just about, you know, letting loose a little bit and going for it basically. And now I really wish I'd put a prison in a box on that cuz that's a great idea. Now, do we need some kind of wings or something on this
- 00:28:10
for for atmospheric flight? Yeah, we can do. I mean Yeah, I don't know. I'm asking. I look cute. Yeah. I mean, you could stick some wings on um But, where would where would they go for this? Let's see. It's weird cuz it's on this type of angle um Trying to get it right is is uh It's going to be a little bit tricky. Um Oh, actually, what I can do is connect like this top fin section, so it's got a bit of Uh here's a Here's a process question for you. We do we do a lot with uh this from the chat here. We do a lot of work on concepts. We show you we show you guys a lot of concepts on ISE and SCL and stuff.
- 00:28:58
People buy art of books like art of Star Wars or whatever. They're filled with concepts that never make it to screen. They never make it to production. What are some of the reasons why concepts get rejected or or sent back for changes or just not used? I suppose it's a few things. It's like sometimes when you do something it doesn't look like what it like what it's supposed to do. That's that's that's one reason of like of that and can be quite tricky to to at sometimes to nail a certain look and aesthetic to to a craft. Especially when it doesn't look like it's job role. So it's sometimes you can go like
- 00:29:47
I know me I get really excited and like I I make like a bunch sometimes that don't even look like it's role but it's like it looks cool. So I'll just pitch it anyway and then it'll be like it looks a bit it's a bit too off the mark of what you know we're looking for sort of thing. But for me it's it's kind of like a wild card. It's like it might be really good and be like yeah you know what we can use that or might just be like you know that's that's far too far too wacky. You know that's that's not going to it's not going to work for its purpose sort of thing. Um Right. The the number of things that have been discovered through uh blue sky experimentation cannot be underestimated. You know you you get you get a brief and when I say
- 00:30:34
you I mean concept artists. But concepts will concept concept artists will will get a brief and trying to pull that image that it only exists in somebody else's head out, you know, and on on the paper is hard enough, uh, but sometimes there can be a lot of value in discovering the things you don't want along the path to finding the things you do want. Yeah, that's it. It's a It's a It is a huge refinement process of just like exactly what, you know, you're after. And, you know, sometimes you don't really know what you're after until you know, you you do go a bit wider the marker or a little bit wacky because you you kind of just have to get it out into the open. Um, and just and just do it. Um, because I think you feel better as well as an artist to just try and get these ideas
- 00:31:22
out because, as you know, I No one can see inside my head. Uh, so it's kind of just like, well, this is actually what I'm thinking when I'm concepting this. hopefully the pa- like I say, like my art director will be like, "Yeah, that's that's good. You know, we we like that." Or, you know, "No, that's a bit It's a bit overzealous and it's a bit crazy." You know, so it it is a huge refinement process. And as I say, as you do it more, you do get better at doing it. Um, sort of thing. So. And as Star Citizen development has proceeded over the years, uh, concept artists have worked uh, not just on the exterior of ships, but on the interior of ships as well quite often.
- 00:32:10
Yeah, well, that's it cuz obviously we don't we don't just do the exterior as well. We do we do everything in you know, and that's also including like landing gears and um, and things like that. And even design down to stuff like designing the toilets. It's like, you know, everything's really um, is accounted for. Uh, and as I say, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Yeah, I was going to say, accounted for as best as we can at the time. Yeah, the latter. That's it, yeah. There's always things discovered. Like when once things start going into production, start getting built, the things are always discovered that were never anticipated. Or you know, or sometimes the metrics of the game have changed in the time that a concept is created. Like when a concept is created, uh it was believed that you need this
- 00:32:57
much space to do this activity. And then when it comes time to build that ship, you know, between the times we've learned you actually need this much space in order to do this. So, you know, that's one of the many reasons concepts can often change uh from between concept and implementation. The latter. Another question from the chat. What's the smallest detail that you've spent the most time on? Ooh. What what sent you down the rabbit hole? Oh. Ooh. I suppose it's like Suppose it's like uh integration of like I know it sounds crazy, but like through you know, like thruster placements. It's kind of it cuz you have to get you have to make sure that they look right on the craft. Um and as I say on the on the Mercury, they'll kind of like
- 00:33:47
built into like a certain way so that they don't interfere with the exterior of the ship too much. And um it I I spend quite a considerable amount of time getting the correct placements of them so that it was, you know, it didn't it didn't look like it interfered too much with the overall shape language because when you start cutting into stuff, you kind of pull it pull stuff away. Um So, it was kind of just like making sure that the flow um of the ship look correct with um you know, exterior placements like thrusters and uh things like that. So, yeah, it's little details like that, yeah, that you can spend an insane an insane amount of time on. And even stuff like, you know, choosing the right destination for the toilet in the
- 00:34:34
interior of a ship can take you quite some time because you're just like, right, okay, don't want it to be too close to a bed just in case you might hear things, you know, that sort of stuff. Um, especially if it's like a multi-crew. Fair enough. Don't want um, you know, space belly or whatever. Uh, so I always um, try and pick a good destination for the toilet out the way. Um, away from everything. Seeing a lot of mentions in chat about a docking ring. Oh, I suppose this could have a docking ring, couldn't it? Like somewhere like here. Um, Well, we have to consider this if you're using the uh, vending machines as a scale reference. Yeah, it's like with they would have to
- 00:35:22
be like tiny. Um, but um, we could we can't we can't make them smaller. Um, that's not a that you know, that's not a problem. We could just like, like, you know, like double them up, really. Like so it instead of it being like that, you can have like double ven- double vending machine sort of thing, so You just massively changed the scale of the ship in my head. Yes, that's what I did. Um, just see, it's a shock. But yeah, we can just like, you know, double these and uh, we could have a docking ring and it'll be really cool. And now, when we were talking about the prisoner pods, you you're you know, if you're a bounty hunter or whatever, you you just massively increased your um, capacity to capture people. It it in in in changing the vending
- 00:36:11
machine alone, you just made this go from a whole B to a whole D. I love it. Yeah, that's that's what I want. More people, please. More bounty. It's fabulous. Uh, You see how easy it is to make these ships get bigger, people? You see how easy it's done? It's magic. That's what it is. And we can just have like an arm across as well, like a secure arm as well when it's like it's secured them in place. And then it just snaps back and keeps them cuz you know, you've got your precious prisoner cargo. It's a Big Benny's. In fact, that's what it could be. They could be prisoner pods disguised as Big Benny's and you know, you can get through customs. Yeah, at this point you you've you've secretly made a giant prisoner transport from a penal colony just disguised as a
- 00:36:59
Big Benny's truck. It isn't it? Is what you've done at this point. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. Well, maybe I did. Who knows? The views and opinions of Sarah McCullough do not represent those of Cloud Imperium Games, Robert Space Industries, or its subsidiaries. I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry. I'm not I'm sorry. I'm not sorry. Oh, well, I'll say it and then of course I have to have a go on it, you know, cuz you have to defend your 20 people potentially even more people that you've captured in these disguised Big Benny's vendor machine pods. So, we can just we can just put them pop them on there,
- 00:37:46
can't we? And just happy days, really. Ah, perfect. What do you want? Sometimes these things get away from us. We we too. I think you I think I got as I said, I get excited. Um, this is why my my poor art director has to put up with is these crazy ideas that I come to him and be like, "Behold! Crazy amounts of prison space in the old noodle carrier or something to to this extent, anyway. but as I say, I'm really digging that idea. I feel like we need something on top in the in the in the center thing. Just just just just from a silhouette
- 00:38:34
standpoint. We need we need we need we need we need something on on on top. May- maybe a top turret or something. Yeah, we can put that just Or or or I don't I don't I don't know. Can we can we make it something Benny's themed something noodle themed? And we don't want it to make You don't want it to look ridiculous, but Like this is a concept already. We don't want to make it look ridiculous But yeah, I I I I I feel like this the centerpiece not a shark fin, but it it it it it needs something on top to make a more interesting silhouette. If I'm allowed to play art director here, well, you're the artist. Go. I I I I think I think that's absolutely fine. I mean, we can try some sort of um spine thing or something.
- 00:39:25
Or or or may- or maybe it could be like a a mounting of the actual bowl itself. It's like instead of the hologram, it could be like like like like like a giant physicalized version of the bowl on the top or something. Yeah. Uh let's have a look. Like let's see what the what that would look like. Okay-dokey. So, with Without the logo or anything. Without the without the text. That's it. We can just remove the text and make it like a physical bowl looking thing. Uh there we go. That's better. Okay, so we just get rid of all him. and then just And it has to be able to rotate
- 00:40:13
360° like a We're making a turret. We're making a turret that looks like the bowl. It's like Okay, so it's like on there and then we just get rid of this drop shadow that it has. Do you want to keep like the the chopsticks as well? Um Well, maybe that's the maybe those are the the barrels of the turret. Oh. Oh, so should we flip it? Um there you go. Cuz you could you can make it like darker as well. Um and then like I say uh just get rid of this. Then just Okay, so you can make it like just like darker and like just make it like a
- 00:41:00
like a Big Benny silhouette turret looking thing and you know you're in trouble. It's like oh dear. Like this thing is coming at you. So it's like like it just like shoots shoots noodles at you and uh fireworks or something. Fireworks, yeah. And like It's it's it's it's a promotional fireworks launcher. Something to that effect. Or you could just like leave it just slowly in the shadow. You know, it's just a slight silhouette of this happy face firing stuff at you into into the in you know, into the abyss. A timely question from the chat. Uh does far quote unquote far too wacky exist in CIG's vocabulary?
- 00:41:52
I think it's just because like I think it can't can be. Um I suppose it just depends really. I mean, this is probably what I would say far too wacky because we have a new a bowl-shaped noodle firing turret thing. And and and you say stuff is based in, a lot of real world stuff as well. So, you kind of have to be a little bit careful of like just how wacky you go. but a lot of the time, as I say, I I I I do come to, as I say, my my poor art director with some crazy stuff. And um cuz you know, I I like I like out of the ordinary. It's It's just something that
- 00:42:40
I tend to do just naturally anyway. So, it's why I think making stuff like this is just It's my bread and butter. I think You know what? You could actually make that spin on fire. So, then you you you you have to you have to Yeah, you have to you have to you have to build a little recess for it so it can So, you you know, it can it can rotate 300 So, it can rotate 180°. Yeah, like like that that's that's Actually, if you if you recess it a little bit into the top, then it can actually like tilt and turn. And maybe it can it can get like a like two like a 280° firing arc. Yeah, you could totally totally do that. Like Like let's have a look in the the desk there. There you go. It's like the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Somebody's seen This this this this thing exists. The Oscar Mayer
- 00:43:27
Wienermobile exists in real life today. And if you don't think stuff's going to get crazier in 940 years, you're kidding yourself. Well, that Well, that's it, isn't it? it's If you get like things like there's some wacky stuff out there, like, you know, that have that have existed for like quite quite a long time. And this really is, you know, nothing new, really, I guess. It's just, you know, playing about and um Fin Rapsu says, "Is this why there's not so much flight ready ships in the game?" Uh no, this is how Sarah after hours in her private time chooses to hang out and blow off a little steam with us on the weekend. So. Yeah, that's it. Like I I I love doing this with you guys and stuff and um
- 00:44:16
I think you know, this is I would have been doing this anyway. It was spare time. So it's like it's nothing, you know, crazy for me to do. It just means that you actually see what I do in my spare time now, embarrassingly, creating crazy stuff like this. Um with a I say it's just going to shoot like noodles out like psh. At someone. I don't I think I like the idea. Somebody Somebody in chat had the idea that it was that it was a fireworks launcher and I I like the idea now that we after Fleet Week obviously now that we've seen that we have fireworks in the game. Yeah, it it would be like promotional fireworks, like fireworks that that explode in the shape of the Big Benny's logo. And stuff. Like like a big firework that explodes in the you know, eat now. That would be Yeah, that's perfect.
- 00:45:04
Yeah, okay. We'll We like it's it's traveling adverti- do do traveling advertisements. Yeah, that'd be fun, wouldn't it? And like maybe, you know, you could because of the size of this now maybe has like a little window in here where you can pull up and buy like noodles, you know, like Fifth Element where it pulls up to your apartment and you can be like that you can buy like um you know, noodles and stuff like that. an a like an actual cart? Yeah? Yeah, you mentioned do Yeah? No, you mentioned Fifth Element. Uh that actually goes all the way back to Blade Runner. Yeah. Yeah, one of one of my favorite films as well, Blade Runner. Uh And uh I say I do like the new one actually. It's really good. It's really really good. Yeah, you know, I mean you you've made it this big anyway, so yeah, add a little food truck element to it. Yeah, but that's it. It's like, you
- 00:45:50
know, got all your prisoners, you fancy something to eat, like this hatch could open and it could be, you know, You You can't keep calling them prisoners, Sarah. What that that's that's the secret. That's the secret. That That's the hidden purpose. Yes, the noodle machine. You're saying the quiet part out loud. Yes, see you can get your noodles delivered on this hatch. Um you know, it might not be used for sec- secret trade deals or what we about your cargo. Um but you can also buy noodles as well. So But just with it being so big, you can imagine like you'd have like a little store as well which you can you know, sell your noodles from. Which would be quite cool. Uh and people could pull up, buy the noodles, and order food or whatever, and
- 00:46:38
go back into whatever the you know, whatever they're doing really. Um which would be quite which would be quite cool. Um Uh now a question from the chat. How long does it normally take to get a concept approved from from start to finish? Is there a normal or is it dependent on the size and shape and purpose of the ship? Yeah, it it does depend on obviously size and shape. Um the smaller ones take a take kind of take a lot less. Um I suppose it takes about a week or two for the smaller ones, and then it can take a take take about three weeks, four weeks, something like that maybe for the bigger ones just because there's so much to them. Um you know, there's there's a lot that has to be accounted for and then you know, getting the feel of it right because there's such huge you know, silhouettes
- 00:47:26
um on the landscape and stuff like that and uh As I say, it's it just does depend as well, you know. Um It it say it's it's just a a refinement process and sometimes you know, you might not hit it straight away. Um and there's a there's a backwards and forwards that does go between. Um but just say it's at this stage for me is one of my most enjoyable because this is where I get to you know, let me hair down and you know, create you know, crazy stuff and not so crazy stuff really, you know, simple stuff as well. You know, firework noodle machine Pretty good transport. Exactly, right? It was weird actually when I was making all the pieces as
- 00:48:15
well. Like I was looking at this chap and I was thinking actually that looks like a cool little like just ship by itself sort of thing. And that doesn't even sell noodles but I was just thinking it looks the like that's a thing as well with different types of pieces. Sometimes you can you know, repurpose stuff like that. Like you know, that you think actually that might make a cool ship and you know, you kind of save these types of things for you know, like later down the road when you think that would actually be quite cool. You know, to work off and stuff like that. It's As I say, it's it's cool. It's a It's a cool process that I I say that I do love to do. Now, we're actually we're actually
- 00:49:03
approaching the end of the stream. We still got about 10 minutes so there's no need to rush but I want to start the conversation about the name of this. Now, Crusader ships have a particular naming uh a scheme. Crusader ships are always a compound name. So that they have they have they have the first which is the which is the actual name of the ship. The Genesis, the Mercury, the Hercules and then there is the second part which is the which is the modifier. It's it's more about its intention. so like you know, the the the Hercules Star lifter, the Mercury Star runner, the Genesis Star liner. and with the Hercules and and Mercury and and Genesis they they all they also
- 00:49:50
tend to have roots in uh uh the fantastic stories of old like the the the the god the Roman gods and the Greek gods and in you Genesis the the the the biblical gods. So, what Let's figure out that first one. Let's figure out that first one. People are already saying the star noodler. And what I I think I think we figured out the star noodler. Is it is it is it is it is it suffix? I think we got the suffix suffix. So, assuming that the suffix is the star noodler. What what is what is what is what is our prefix for this? What what what Roman or Greek god or or or or mythic character are we are we naming this one over? The Hermes Hermes Hermes is a good one the Um what was there a god of food and wine? I
- 00:50:39
feel like there was. Uh ooh I think yeah I think it was but he was like wasn't it like Bacchus? Yeah, wasn't he like It was like gluttony wasn't it or something like that? Bacchus is the source of bacchanal uh as a word. Demeter? Uh Ceres? Ceres seems in line. It does It does doesn't it? Uh I like these though the star noodler is like Yeah I I think we got the we got the suffix right away. The chat was uniform in the suffix right off the bat. affection straight away star noodler It's just It's just fab. Um yeah but I do like I do like those
- 00:51:28
suggestions. I think like like the It do It do do fit They do fit really well with it. Yeah Demeter and Ceres you know the the the Greek and the Roman was the goddess of grain agriculture harvest growth and nourishment. Oh that seems quite quite after really, isn't it? That one I think. I think we got it. I think we got it. I think we got it in the the series Star Noodler. Oh, that's so good. I love that. As I say, that's just that's just perfect. As I say, I just um for me like this is this is what it's all about. Like I can sit on these for do this this for hours cuz it's like it's just so much fun. Like I I like the Star Noodler like
- 00:52:15
that's made my day that. Well, I'm just excited Go on, sorry. I know I'm yeah, I'm an excited when we email this to John Crew. Just cuz I like to see that vein in the top of his head bulge a little bit. He's going to hate me. I did the envelope of kill and then now we've done this she's fire wet. Oh, that's such a delightful reaction to the overkill. He was just like No. Just what have you done? And then just But and now we just keep adding to his stress levels. I'm just like I'm I'm so sorry John if you hear this. You know, I I don't mean to. And then with the added secret elements of prisons or prisoners, it's just like, you know, it's just this ever evolving That's not the intentional purpose of
- 00:53:03
the ship. That's It It's It's not Crusader's fault if the average C tends to buy these and repurpose them. But you know what as well sex speaking of that is like the Mercury was supposed to just be like a data runner and then it was like, well, you know, if you're smoke a lot, you do have secret compartments. And every ship that I seem to do for Crusader has this alternative purpose. Um and I feel really really bad cuz I don't mean to do it. It just kind of pops out. Uh he just changed his status on Teams to do you know disturb? he is watching. Oh, no. I like that's it cuz it makes you notice I'm sure that's a coincidence. I'd be like, "Uh so, John, do not
- 00:53:52
disturb." I'm not answering this question now. For instance, I've already got stuff on, so leave me be. Uh I'd say we just keep creating problems for him. It's stuff, you know. Feel bad for uh It's so much fun. Do you want Do you want to try pinging him? Oh, did you want to? I'd say um Let's Let's Let's see if this works. See what he says. He might just be like, "Oh, what have you done?" "What are you two up to over there?" And we're like, "We're sorry, John. We didn't mean to do this, but um we uh us in the community have come up with something for you." I mean, it is after hours, so. That's true. Yes, he might got He might not get back to you straight away. Um he
- 00:54:40
might just be like, you know, "Leave me alone." But, you know, we're up to no good. But it's what we do, right? It's It's what we're all about. Just have a bit of fun and um create some crazy spaceships. It's what we're all about. Yeah, he didn't He didn't pick up. He knows He knows better. Oh, dear. Well, this is I he's going to He's going to hate us cuz I say last time we gave him, you know, we gave him the envelope of kill and um we seem to be doing this more and more. We just would you say that this ship feeds above its weight class? I think so. I think it definitely feeds. It It It over-delivers, I think. It's just It's like how many things can you
- 00:55:29
stack on it? Lots. and it would just be like a load of noodles just getting dropped down and you'd be like, "Oh my word, that's so many noodles." But, to be fair, um you know, I do actually really like it. You took the fin away. You don't like the fin? Yeah. I I Well, it's I suppose you you know, I can even have with or without, but as I say, I I kind of like just I think with the noodle addition, with the fire works, Sure. that will I think that will just be like I think it's just like perfection. I don't know. Chat's saying you ruined it now. Did I? Oh, okay. You got to have a spoiler. You got to have a spoiler on it.
- 00:56:16
Back. Okay. It's got a spoiler. Okay. It's back. It's back. Sorry. Sorry. I I won't I won't take it away. Just add a bit of definition. Oh, fabulous. Thank you, chat. I love this. This is just so much fun for me. Let's just I'd say I've had a lot of fun and I love doing these cuz you know, it's all practice as well for me and um Sometimes it's Sometimes these things are just about taking an hour at the end of the week and blowing off some steam. Yeah, that's it, isn't it? And you know, especially for myself, it's just like this is just so wacky and you know, I get to have fun with the
- 00:57:04
community and yourself and um it's it's stuff that I, you know, I would have just been doing uh here anyway, so I might as well do it with you guys and um we can come up with some crazy stuff. Uh It's just just so much fun. But, yeah. Uh for really be Richard who's like crazy, no new content, uh invite you to check out yesterday's Inside Star Citizen for our new weekly new content there. It's available now on YouTube. Yes. More stuff. Lots of stuff. Uh and then and then obviously what I'd do is I'd just go in and I'd like um of course just to add to scale I'd probably just add a few little like lights and
- 00:57:50
stuff just to you know so people don't bump into the the big bunny's noodles section. and uh just it just helps with scale as well. You know having like tinier little lights and stuff. Um that's what I find with the with these things is especially since it went from you know quite small to um hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of noodles in a space space of like a second. So uh Yeah, it it looks like that in this in the rear section there with the giant things it looks like it's ready to just drop the noodles at a moment's notice. Like this it's got a rapid noodle delivery system. Yes, it's like a payload. Yeah, it's like you know that's got to be its its big selling point against the
- 00:58:39
whole series. The whole series takes forever to unload. The the Crusader series Star Noodler uh is designed to offload its payload in seconds. That's it. That's what you want, right? You want your noodles delivered now within seconds. That's what That's what you That's what you want. You just you know this is what you're after. The the the terrible drop noodle. Beware of drop noodles. That's what we need is some like signage somewhere with that. Beware drop noodle or something, you know, like somewhere here. Beware like drop noodle. and it just be like on the side of the you know on the side of the ship because it's like drops it as an instant. It's like it
- 00:59:28
doesn't even give you the warning. It's it's like just drop it. And then obviously you'd have more signage. It's also appropriately above it where you can't possibly benefit from the warning. You don't even see it. We warned you. We warned you. You didn't see it. Tough. Oh, it's pretty perfect. It's just doesn't even give you the warning. No no no no signal or anything. Just just drop just drop some. Well, that's it. Sarah, we're out of time. Ah. How was that? Oh, wow. Okay. Let's give Let's give Let's give ourselves a a nice look at our series drop Noodler and drop Noodler mini. Drop Noodler Yep, we've got the the the
- 01:00:17
small It's Star Noodler. Star Noodler. Star Star Noodler, yep. Uh mini and we've got the big boy Star Noodler. Um that drops payloads of noodles and shoots fireworks. Oh, which I love. All right. All right, guys. Yeah, thank you. Uh thank you, Sarah, for taking time at the end of your week to hang out with us, goof off, have a little fun. Uh we I'm sure we could all use it for for an hour. Um folks watching home, we are we are going to continue doing what we started a couple weeks ago. Uh we are going to send the love over to a Star Citizen streamer who is streaming right now. Uh looks like uh today's uh raid is for Myer.
- 01:01:05
Uh Myer is is a is a is a well-known commodity in the Star Citizen streaming community. Uh he's been a volunteer for our major events like CitizenCon for a number of years. Uh he's a good resource for folks uh looking to learn all about Star Citizen. So, we'll go ahead and set up uh that host for Myer now. I see it there. Uh see so, you can opt to uh jump in there when you're ready. And uh tell them uh tell them Molly says hi. Uh Molly from our community community team is the one who set this up. So, uh for Sarah I'm Jared. This has been Star Citizen Live Game Dev Intergalactic Noodle Delivery. This is the series Star Noodler. Uh we'll be back next week, guys. Take care. Take care. See you soon. Bye.
