[Music] hi is that the right now it is right camera hi everybody welcome to star citizen live gain dev what a concept we are here with lead concept artist Jeremiah Lee Jay Lee don't you tell everybody who you are and what you do for star citizen I'm Jeremiah and I'm just gonna look longingly at you ate this one and I'm the lead console artist I concept art truer words have never been spoken I don't think I've ever answered that question well we were thinking we were thinking about it before we started the
- 00:00:54
show about how often we have you on stars isn't live and somebody in chat pointed out that it's actually been a year the last time I think you've been on the show was August 10th 2018 it was a year ago that was the trolling of Jeremiah yeah where I made we made you play the game and then I coordinated a bunch of other streamers to just ruin why it was fun for me it was a lot of fun for we saw a retribution get lift lifted off the the landing pad by I think for Hornets and then a Cutlass and not a retribution no no I'm not rich I'm sorry the shoot was it called the I'm so sorry UK was it uh it's the my goodness well Jeremiah tries to remember what's the co I hate what he was doing a year ago on today's show we are going to be
- 00:01:43
concept a character clothing concept if you watched inside star citizen yesterday you saw a segment with Jeremiah there where we revealed the several of the NPC concepts that have gone into production ahead of micro tech being added to the stars in the universe and today we are going to continue that work and build some let's give Jeremiah try and see if he can tell us what we're gonna build today good it's not the retaliated no not the retaliate er not the retribution it's it's another our ship its the salvage one for ages oh my goodness not well I'm aware what it is I'm not telling you at this point that's gonna kill me anyways hey chat what is it reclaiming lamer oh yeah the reclaimer see I already moved on though to what
- 00:02:34
we're gonna be doing today okay now you have to tell us what we're gonna do because Oh so instead of like last time actually instead of just doodling around I actually wanted to do a painting of a hospital jacket that would go in the Microtech so I wanted to show my process I'll also have my reference board and here on the left and bring that board there we go what why is my face on your reference board we're not doing that again I don't know what you're talking about but this is the same reference board you brought up when we did the last time we did this this is well over a year it was it not true okay well that had those pictures in it you put this picture back when I was talking about we are not doing so I have like images of jackets like snowboard gear or some very interesting cuts and also some some
- 00:03:24
text that I put in here there's also some tech on like the on the hoodie Oh show that was really cool there's some tech on the sides so those are the reasons why and also I use a lot of architecture and my references as well I a lot of architecture they have a lot of repetitive shapes but then architects they have to figure out a lot of that to come up with solutions for very trivial problems which is like the landscape so that has to look good with repetitive patterns depending on but they have to be able to do that on a very sophisticated ground plane or location so like they are very successful with doing a lot of these these very stylistic and very design heavy
- 00:04:13
architecture that's I'm sorry design and so I use that as a reference a lot just okay that company just under that camera you bringing your dog by hi Shan he do it good we got wood how long do we got we have five minutes into the show thank you what's your dad's name Georgie Georgie it was Anton two weeks ago hi Georgie we got a show to do though Thank You Shan Shan carrying on also I bring in so the tech here as you can see some possible tech that we can put in and also also you use animals as well like
- 00:05:02
so I thought it to use I thought to use penguins because one it's in a cold environment Microtech is pretty much a snow planet and there's a lot of like really cool shapes that are happening here and I won't kind of want to incorporate that into the jacket so Nature does a lot of cool things so you're using architecture which is obviously man-made and you're using penguin a penguin my boys going down yeah you sound fine okay cool so I thought to use I don't do this all the time but sometimes I do look at nature to bring up you know some sort of inspiration for coming up with some of the designs because I could just you know I could go to a website and look for you know like a jacket and just copy
- 00:05:51
that but like that's that's not fun and it's like very restricting so and also Nature has a lot of cool stuff so that's that's actually kind of how we got to here as well we use a lot of nature are you talking about you I have no idea what you're talking about but yeah I tend to use architecture and nature to kind of come up with new designs new sometimes solutions to function as well if you want to put in some sci-fi tech we have to justify why that thing is there and that's specific shape so we turn to architecture and
- 00:06:39
animals all right so if you haven't totally figured this out yeah this isn't gonna be one of those episodes where we answer a bunch of questions and you find that a bunch of stuff okay and this is a game dev episode where we've discussed process and the way in which one of our team members goes about their day-to-day work in this case it's understandably pasting a bunch of my faces no place we're gonna get past that though mm-hmm so you have what looks like a mikrotik looking person he's in a snowy background yeah yeah this is gonna be for eld okay and we've shown some of that before here we go we show some of this before on an ATV I believe oh no I'm as a TiVo is see one of those and this was the style that that me my
- 00:07:34
friend I remember another concept artists and I we worked on this together just to really have kind of like blanket shootout like what should L do look like in Microtech so these are kind of like the trust fund kids what the guys who are more how do you say very well-off there they be in the top 10% in micro tech so they like they want to have the latest fashion they want to be very they're very they have their head above their their shoulders type of like there's so many words I can't say if I don't want to say on camera a lot of I say prideful and wealthy yeah I wasn't very loud no yeah individuals and so LD was kind of like um I'll show I'll show everybody here yeah this is the style
- 00:08:23
guy that we created for eld and so in our style guy just kind of shows like what materials you have at they have access to what type of tech can go on here shape language that goes on to the clothing and also which is interesting privilege now your mic is off no we're keep working through all of our tests yeah you keep okay privileged individuals but well the really cool thing that I wanted to show is on the style guide we actually put on the side on the right it's stuff that we don't want in the in the design of that specific manufacturer so obviously we can't have too baggy clothing is nothing too formal we can't have overbearing
- 00:09:13
amounts of tag we can't have like ripped clothing nothing too artsy fartsy or like you know too extreme when silhouettes this is an actual thing actually so we we make this so that we can kind of guide the concept artists in the correct direction so as a lead concept artists I actually have to make a lot of these to make sure that the team is focused on one direction order or a general direction and this type of information is very helpful for artists because that way I'm giving them boundaries to plan and not be like the world is your oyster it's like the world is my oyster is kind of and playin it but we'll be doing another jacket for
- 00:10:05
Microtech I think we've shown a lot of interior clothing and I know yesterday we showed the CB CB a code blue apparel code blue apparel which is a thick heavy clothing but CBA they mainly work on in they mainly make like jumpsuits and very padded not necessarily fashionable type of clothing and so that's why I chose LD cuz these guys would probably not be wearing cpa clothing they'd were yield because it's the hip thing to do so let go and try to get another headset no just give me one you keep doing what you're gonna do obvious was working fine for like the hour it would create a song so good I
- 00:10:53
know it died right is the song the show in life so I'm gonna go get it okay sounds good okay cool chappie nice girl we'll be right back okay cool I am being unwanted adult okay cool um so let's kind of start off with this one I actually sketched this morning I didn't because it takes about it takes me about an hour about an hour and a half to put in a general character I also have a general background to place the character in and I didn't actually use the waiter concept which we showed yesterday I believe as a base and just paint on top of it change a couple things but doesn't matter because we're done cover him up and we named this this this fellow Brad feels like a hey hey
- 00:11:43
everybody I'm Brad we're gonna make a check it so let's make a LD jacket so what I normally do and this is son scenario when I start something I know that I have to design a jacket of some sorts I will I can just close this off I actually just started blocking in shapes on top of kind of what we have here so let's actually do most of us rough something in real quick it's so awkward I'm to see you seven Jared next to me while I do these things so right now I'm just blocking in the shapes well what a jacket look like on top of clothing so I'm thinking I'm not
- 00:12:34
thinking of something too overbearing but it still has to be able to withstand the cold temperatures of Microtech oh man he started to look Lou hello let's see I think we should cherish we'll give him a hoodie yes let's give him a hoodie and actually do want to cover up the front a little bit that's really cool so I'm actually looking at this image this reference
- 00:13:21
kind of right now I think that's really cool very successful excuse me and I'll be once I have the general block in I'll be using the other references that we have like the architecture stuff the techie stuff and the the nature stuff too to flesh it out afterwards I think you starting to look really cool especially someone that gray so this process is actually very uh fairly simple I'm not really caring about necessarily the oh you're back kind of I was so alone
- 00:14:19
there was nobody beside me I think are its this is the same original headset didn't work tech problems is what it is where was I yeah we're adding a hoodie some right now I kind of blocked in the general shape of what the jacket could look like and but I'm keeping it loose keep it loose if you notice my brush is pretty big this is fairly big but the reason why I keep my brush this big at this stage it's just that I'm hitting the mean no it's not really caring about the the the little details just yet I'm
- 00:15:11
thinking of big cuts just a coverage of the clothing first and so I think the black is not a good choice probably because start to look very urban right see a lot of when you see winter clothes or snow clothes in films a lot of times they're usually bright colors mm-hmm which I mean snow is obviously a very bright color it's is it is it to blend in or is it just because that's the environment and it's a magic complement instead of stand out in stark contrast well a lot of its kind of like to reflect off the Sun black attracts and a lot of lights right so if you it's kind of like if you wear a white shirt or a
- 00:15:58
black shirt out in the open in the Sun you'll get a lot hotter when you're wearing a black shirt because it just sucks in that light that heat so like they got console on ha who wore black well everybody else was wearing light colors on so those because heart that was dark colors because he's Han Solo Han stall that was not he's not human you want to see where you're going with that he's a hero okay he's not just a man but yeah I think that lighter it also looks more like compared to the other one which looked like a urban clothing this looks more I think more winter outdoor yeah see what this noob
- 00:16:50
is suggesting that we make it baby yeah well let's give a shot you know what let's try it there you go it's actually not bad okay ass no kidding yeah I'm also Ald is they're very bright with their colors as well the previous one so actually I'm not completely against it maybe we can look like a pink highlight instead of like a like a primary color yeah this is making me want strawberry Quik because what this is doing okay I mean this is not bad it's not really pink yeah let's not worry about colors too much right now let's worry about Chevy aqua shape or form yeah oh look at you Jarrett look at you I've been doing so long and
- 00:17:39
you're all grown up oh we shall call it pink okay I think this is pretty much it I I don't really want to do a super long trench coat type of thing because they will be going out outdoors and I think a trench coat could be a little bit annoying in the snow yeah I could be wrong I'm sure there's a bunch of great people who charts the snow in a trench coat nothing against you in pop culture in sci-fi genre entertainment there any snow trench coats I mean how many sounds cool han
- 00:18:28
Solo wore a trenchcoat in the forest every nobody else I'd ever trench coat in the forest and Han Solo had a forest camo trench coat for these Han Solo again I'm trying to think I don't think of an example of that's no trenchcoat it's no job in GI Joe didn't have a trench coat none of the characters in the thing had a pension it's no troopers such snowtroopers did they have trench coats yeah yeah they're pretty long coats that yeah yeah you're right it didn't really look like a judge because they're really tight waist yeah but yeah that could be considered a trench of style anyone let's go to a shot why not we're still in the rough the roughing out stage so it's not that's actually not bad
- 00:19:31
and actually the reason why we can like play with the idea of of a trench coat is actually the sexually I kind of we've briefly talked about it before in the previous interviews and stuff like that but as you know all our clothing and arm are modular so we have zones the one thing that does not necessarily have sounds are the jackets so we just name it the jacket port but anything underneath the jacket they have to fit a certain zone a cutoff right so that we can swap out with other stuff but the jacket item goes on top of all of this so I can break every single rule that we set so we made kind of a kind of how what do you call it a port for creativity I guess just so that because
- 00:20:21
if if we have the same zones for everything everything will be generally the same right so we'll just play within what's what we have and so think to kind of break that and so that our universe looks more fleshed out diverse we put the jacket port there so that even if we had a jacket that's a trench coat or if it's just cut off up to here we can totally do that because it sits on top of our zones and that like the shirts and pants and so it allows us to do a lot of this crazy stuff I'm not really into the trench coat anymore but I think it this this serves a purpose I'm kind of like I think this is kind of a jacket that we can work with
- 00:21:16
and I'm totally okay with Karen if you have any suggestions regarding tags and stuff like that that you want that you would like to go in here as well they were just talking shape language at the moment yeah somebody had a question was looking for it here I'm gonna have to paraphrase it that's not other thing anymore mm-hmm have you ever somebody was asking if you've ever designed something that wasn't using a real-world reference and that somebody comes and points of a real-world referencing goes oh this is just like this thing it pulls everything oh yeah yes that has happened that has Kevin on a couple things clothing we get that quite a lot because there's just billions of clothing out
- 00:22:06
there yeah exactly and that's actually one of the biggest things that we we don't struggle with but one of the challenges that we have to face is armor because we we come across the same problem where a human actually has to run inside of it and so there's only so much shapes that we can play with on the macro scale the micro scale we can tweak things here and there but silhouette wise a lot of other even real world real world and also other IPS they which my friends in different different IPs and we come across the same problem it's just the arms move a certain way the legs move a certain way and also our torso only twists and turns a certain way as well
- 00:22:54
and so we come across the same problem same challenge quite often so there are times when when I'll get well I'll get text messages from my friends and be like oh man you stole my idea I was like I made this six months ago I thought about it last night I'm like yeah we're solving the same problem so it's just it's really what comes in solving the same problem making sci-fi futuristic armor many of us have the same influences you know we all grew up watching the same Star Trek same Star Wars watching the same you know bastard Galactica reboot you know all that sorta so we all take from many of the same cultural influences and then we apply that through our own individual prisms and we come up with stuff that are that end up being
- 00:23:43
iterations and variations of what everybody else is doing mm-hmm it can be hard to to completely break free into something that's never been done before and that's why you get only showed on your mood board a lot of those fashions that like no don't do this like fashion designers tend to go into crazy crazy spaces just trying to break free from everything that's been done with that's right I am not jealous of those guys I only in that respect I worked at where it's fit oh it wasn't very long with three weeks so I have a couple friends who went to fit it myself question do you have some additional
- 00:24:31
motorcycle riding gear just personally no I don't own a motorcycle or have any worse I go riding gay do you have a second I just said I don't have a motorcycle thing I'm trying to do a thing with so I try and do a thing so right now I'm actually sketching in the possible cuts but still keeping it loose because I'm not completely convinced that this is the this is the jacket yeah so right now I'm just coming up with kind of a lot of a lot of this is also muscle memory of where I know seams tend to go and we're stitching normally I replaced but this is kind of my
- 00:25:23
refinement I'm a refinement stage I guess of the sketch but there are husband times when literally I'll just do that I've done that before too because we're just we're just working loose these are pretty quick I normally don't talk while I'm doing this yeah I'm a little slower than I am when I actually work we've had that conversation before when we do like the gameplay dreams mm-hmm I find it very difficult to talk and play effectively at the same time yeah the you know the the big-name streamers I'm the big just the successful streamers when I say sucess I mean the ones who can actually talk and play at the same time are incredibly impressive to me because when I talk my hands tend to be very sluggish and non-responsive when
- 00:26:11
I'm talking which is weird because I tend to move them around quite a bit but maybe that's what it is because I tend to move my hands around my talk and when I playing and talking I can't maybe it's that it's that it's blocking my how does this concept phase tie-in with the 3d modeling phase so normally will normally have the very end when we have a concept that we like and we got to prove we passed that image over to the the modelers the character artists and then they'll build they'll realize the concept into game so they'll sculpt it out first and ZBrush do as detailed a detailed sculpt as much as they can but
- 00:27:02
that's during their during that time the character artists will talk with our tech artists to make sure that it fits the volumes fits the zones that it also it will be possible for that thing to function in the game we know a lot of our ship concepts our concept in 3d mm-hmm because metrics are incredible yes important part of ships as we've learned from building the ships that were concept it out in 2012 2013 2014 versus the ships our concept about today it's very helpful to concept in 3d yes we we don't do many of our character concepts in 3d them no the reason why the reason why the care the ship team I'm not partnership team so if I get something wrong please don't screw me but our ships have a lot of interactions with the actual player right so there's
- 00:27:50
there are zones where a character animation will trigger or we'll be compared other IPS or other stuff that I've worked on before like you click a button and either the character snaps to that thing or they'll do a kind of a magical hand wave and the animation will trigger the thing with star citizen though is when your character reaches out and grab something it's actually grabbing something into the actual space so there are metrics for these things right for characters not so much there isn't anything on a jacket where you activates well we'll see about this but it's the we the metrics that we have I guess would be just the zones which is
- 00:28:38
just for modularity and there's not that much gameplay and swapping a jacket out compared to a ship where you click on this button then a component will open up you also get to work in the same area sometimes it's the same in the same row desks with the riggers yes F so that when these things get built out if we should find a conflict like a place where oh you know you didn't have the bend in the correct place here and now it doesn't work you can identify that very quickly and make the chip make the changes to the concept yes yeah do that in a way that's a bit faster than a weekend with a giant spaceship yeah so I mean clothing tends to be quite it's very quick compared to a ship and the reasoning why is just like I said
- 00:29:27
there's there's so many things that go on a ship compared to clothing there's just so many moving parts when it comes to ships but for clothing not so much and also it's very for the character artists it's very helpful to have concept because you'll have an artist that would design clothing so that we have the design locked in right and also the concept artists will try to be as helpful as they can by respecting a lot of the zones but there are times when I tell a concept art is like hey man just go nuts alright just get me something really cool and we'll figure it out and tech artists are very they're super talented they're very they're a lot smarter than me waste more than me engaged oh yeah yeah he's definitely way smarter than me and
- 00:30:16
they'll try to cater to to the art and so it's a the concept bars actually does shorten a lot of the production time when of an asset just because if you have a character artist trying to come up with a lot of things while thinking about this has to go on the engine it's just a lot of things to process so the concept kind of cuts that production time for those of you who are asking questions in the chat remember we're talking about process as far as what we're doing here it's general process related questions why do we do this kind of thing what do we do is if you're asking is this thing in the game where is this thing going to be in the game this is not the show for those ten types of questions it's not the type of question that a character concept artist would be able to answer so if your questions about game features this is
- 00:31:04
not the show for that one just to help you out because I don't want you to sit there and ask the question 14 times of the chat or the next hour why are they ignoring me they're trying to help you out here this is not the show game features mm-hmm so if the question starts with well how will this work or will that we will we be able to or something like that that's not this show this show about Jeremiah's progress is about may process it's all about Bey okay so I got a basic shape of the jacket I think it's pretty cool I haven't actually figured out what this actually is yet but now it's almost got like a country-western kind there's nothing when you leave it with just the top there yeah if you didn't I carry it down it almost seems a little Western
- 00:31:52
mm-hmm sci-fi Western yeah but which which I think I've been kind of going in that direction kind of been feeling it out a little bit I was asking Chatterley if we do Space Cowboys I mean I would love a space cowboy you're not getting me to sing like this I don't know if my Mike's gonna cut out my house but we have used some for some of the designs like for the the Bounty Hunter concert that we showed off as well a lot of that was inspired by some of the western films and also just like cowboy style one of the things you mentioned in the ic7 yesterday was doing
- 00:32:43
bounty we've already done the ship jackers yeah past and trying to come up with bounty hunters that don't look like ship jackers and what were the what were the similarities you were running into and how are you working to avoid that so for ship jackers there the brief that we got was there very theatrical by the same time there they put together what they want on their armor and they'll skip bash stuff together the thing with bounty hunters is these guys are professionals but they won't be wearing a uniform right if I'm just any even current day we called headhunters so would you call them yeah but they like they they don't they don't have
- 00:33:32
like that enters or people find new jobs oh yeah but you know very different than better like it's like I guess what would you call them like a private investigators like those people they're like yeah but like those type of people they don't have like they don't wear cop uniform or like you know so they they wear what's what they want to wear which is a fij efficient for the stuff that they do so it's geared the clothing or the armor is geared towards their profession all right so recovery agents I think like federal recovery agent sure they've gone through with them yeah but but regardless um the the ship checkers for a while they were the only ones that
- 00:34:19
were kind of non-uniform lifestyle the slavers to a certain extent they were kind of like that but like ship drivers were the extreme version of that so how do how do we make armor that looks tailored to an individual that's a professional while not looking kid bashed was kind of like yes so we had to find a balance of that and also making something look customized is quite difficult if it's tame because we can just go crazy around just add spikes to it right and just it looks customized but if it's for someone that's very methodical someone that's very logical very strategic it's a little difficult to come up with personalized things like the moment you feel like a sticker on
- 00:35:08
them they don't look orderly or like they look like they'll just fool around but when we want them to look like they mean business well they'll be like you know pounding on your door you're like I'm here to collect that kind yeah yeah and so that was actually the trickiest part for the Bounty Hunter's so right now I'm actually looking at this architecture piece right here and I really do like this shape right yeah this this pattern is happening I'm trying to see if I can maybe incorporate some of that here it'll be really cool especially grab some of that yellow over there and actually I'll probably you probably
- 00:35:56
noticed by now I tend not to like grab colors from the color palette actually grab colors from from photos and the reason why I do that is because most of these photos are taking place in real life right and so the colors that are in photos are real and they're reacting to the Sun or some sort of light and so the colors that are here are not like they're very actually kind of pastel they're not like you're let's let's pick this yellow for a second right if I were to pick yellow my natural instinct would come here so it's supersaturated all right but if I grab it from a photo it's more realized more realistic nothing is ever this bright on this is like a fresh coat of paint that's been
- 00:36:43
with like ten layers of that in a very controlled setting so that's kind of like one of the four all you artists out there who are picking stuff up what I tend to do so design in men's fashion is often very utility based while for women it's more often about look over utility or style over utility how do you balance that since we're often making so for I do I do understand where that question is coming from so the thing is I try to keep the the clothing gender neutral right there are some cases when we make them specifically catered to a specific
- 00:37:32
gender sometimes but I would say about eighty to ninety percent of time to try to keep the gender neutral so like I'm not accentuating his like this this character is like this figure too much is kind of very broad I wouldn't put like I would have put cuts like right here and then I would have put like an AB thing like right here I wouldn't do that because obviously this wouldn't look good on a female right and so I try to keep I keep that in mind and I've done what this company and I first start citizen so like it's a it's kind of a natural habit for me but I try to keep them as gender neutral as possible sometimes design will call out and it has to be a specifically tailored towards women then that's when I might change the cuts of things but the
- 00:38:23
overall look and the overall feel of the character I will do that based off of what that character is so if that character is a very attractive individual at a bar that's trying maybe it's a maybe it's like a like a James Bond type of villain that's trying to like seduce a player or something then there's a little bit of like a look that I would look for look they don't look for there's a look that I would what I would read I would have research right and so seduction would be one so I would cater I would drive that drawing or that concept in that certain direction but if the regardless of gender if the direction of that concept is supposed to be a utilitarian regardless of what gender it is I'll make it look e to
- 00:39:10
latarian right and so gender doesn't really play a factor in concept unless it's been specifically called out like this like for instance which Pacheco okay looks very Tillet Aryan right combat focus so she didn't look it she wasn't sexualized in any sort of way she wasn't taking that direction she's not wearing a like a dress like a bar dress type of thing she that character happens to be female and she's wearing tactical gear right and so it's it really depends on the brief and then the concert parts will follow that brief so gender is kind of like a especially when you're trying to extrapolate out 940 years in the future yeah that's that's tough
- 00:39:59
that's also really hard well one of the actually the challenges I do want to bring up though is actually how do we make this look futuristic but not still recognizable yeah that's always the hard part because clothing that we're wearing now is way different than 500 years ago all right way different than the only thing that's kind of state is probably like tuxedos and suits but that's because we they're like oh this is this is tradition that we keep but even that's slowly starting to change so but 900 years in the future so that's that's actually something that that I get into arguments with with the artists partly we run it into into it with environment art it's you want to
- 00:40:49
extrapolate out to 900 years in the future but we're not making a game for 900 years in the future we're making a game for people that live today yeah so you still want to have visual cues and things that that folks can build an emotional attachment to that they instantly recognize today right did you interested say okay that's a chef okay that's a supply closet okay that's a say so you these visual attachments that we that players today can recognize you know instinctively what it is but at the same time demonstrate some manner of progress nine hundred and forty years exactly the future it's a it's a delicate balance to toe in everybody
- 00:41:37
from our environment team story ship teams to even our character teams are constantly balancing that that was actually the trickiest part which was the the chef the chef concept that we did because a lot like I said in the in the video the chef outfits today are super simple and we're like how do we make that look sci-fi and we were really struggling with that for about a couple days and were like so the solution that was we look for the most complex looking chef outfit that's still that still was still relevant to the other normal looking chef outfits the Hat did a lot a lot of the selling yeah and also the big buttons and just having that the apron in the front so that we
- 00:42:26
were like okay what were the key beats of the of a chef outfit and then we started putting tech lines on it an interesting cuts we're like maybe they use different types of fabrics maybe they use stain resistant fabric yeah yeah yeah and so like maybe it's a little bit more difficult to know maybe it's easier to cut right so we made a little bit more intricate and so that was we had to find a lot of different ways to solve very simple simple requests which is give us a chef so it's like we got to come up with a lot of a solution yes we have we talked about it on the SCMS corner oh yeah that's actually the eld is a
- 00:43:17
manufacturer were working with for now for this so you already introduced the number of led effects closing it back so this was a very fair this is a very what we call it a very risky move that I made on this one but I wanted to kind of push like what our clothing is and this is actually our first Terra brand that the that our community has seen and so for micro tech Alice I pitched the idea of maybe I can actually see the individual like it's just like and it's updating it it's like scrolling and I think it well
- 00:44:09
I think it will people would flex or if people would just be super depressed looking up their own but also this is the crease others also here to stock numbers just on like there that's but this was the biggest one having shipped commercials being played on their on their clothing so also keep in mind this all this is concept none of this is guaranteed to go in the game so this is all just me spitballing ideas to the directors and also attack and also Chris else the art directors as well but also LEDs are here we were actually talking about animating textures so like if we were to put a video or a of some sort of like scrolling texture we do
- 00:44:58
have the tech to do that however it is very expensive so there are methods of doing that is it wise to do it probably not as eventually you're gonna have exactly yeah but I did talk to Dave haddock about you know just just spitballing ideas I think we were just drinking coffee and we're sitting down we're chatting and I brought this up to him and he was like it'd be really cool if you were broke and and he just needed money in your stock and your ships all somewhere else you got dropped off somewhere and you have no money and so you know the the the Warriors beautiful people who stand outside with the signs and they were the Statue of Liberty clothing so imagine that but it'll be like a an ageist shirt that just plays
- 00:45:47
ages commercials 24/7 and you just go around so we did talk about that I was super funny and I totally I totally could see that 900 years in the future as well I think having ads play as well like you have your there was one for this one I spoke with gage about was what if like the colors of the shirt would just change and we just have to do like a an animating video and just kind of UV it on here but like these black areas what if they were like kind of after every ten seconds it will just kind of like flip over to the other side and over feel a different color so we
- 00:46:38
for concept also like I'm very like what if we did all this crazy stuff and I'm like yeah I'm engaging portable instantly sure I'm like the the dreamer I'm the dreamer and then core is the realist and gage is also a realist like last year when you sprung chef Lando I mean there's chef disco and then all the all the source files for that image disappeared I might have photographic memory I could always bring them back see plenty of me out saying oh you don't know what really oh my goodness no okay I'm gonna speed this up I'll go speed
- 00:47:24
this up oh no I thought by painting the dude I cut the time when I did cut the time but no yeah also I I normally I'm a lot more focused but right now I'm doing a word for those guys who don't know Photoshop I'm using a soft light layer I just masked I selected this selected the entire bread or this bread on his jacket mastodons to here so anything that I paint in here won't go outside of it so I'll stay with in here so it's also a cold shirt that I do and so right now
- 00:48:12
I'm putting a basic lighting pass on the jacket because without this it looks very flat and so now I'm actually adding value to the clothing oh man it's already been 45 minutes dude but I normally do this pass really quick just to get a feel of how the jacket feels like kind of wrapped around the character now it's very flat now it actually start to look like it's actually wrapping around in actually has some volume what do we talk about for 45 minutes oh okay I'm not asking him that question what what
- 00:49:04
that's me what that's what I wants to know why you're so sweet Oh made you this way oh I was born this way do you Dungeon Master you sure he does although not for like a year hey man hey I can't believe it's been a year since we've done this I know I want to do more this this is a lot of fun you know what I would like to do like maybe we could since I'm live you can't stop me what I would like to do is like maybe we just take it like a character from beginning to end it could just be concept like part two yeah I just have to be this one but like and it could be like you know just just saying just do think of all the content
- 00:49:55
that we can make wait every Monday dude dude it's it's easy with people look I make so much content for you look at this I'm like I'm like I'm like a gold mine [Laughter] what can I go over so let's talk about different materials to ten minutes ah talk about different materials okay so painting materials so the thing that I've kind of learned over the years is that cloth and metal and plastic they
- 00:50:43
have a different well we say spec but pretty much is how that material reacts to light so like you can you can see it kind of like today with cars right you see cars that have matte like matte black and we also have that shiny that shiny car paint and also if you like a cloth it's not as super shiny as well and sometimes you have like leathers just super shiny so no kind of the the spec values or just a general spec of materials will actually help differentiate what is cloth what is metal so that way our character artists know exactly what that's health metal is because if I just gave this to them they'll be like I have no idea what that is exactly so first let's just make this more a pie make this more of a plastic
- 00:51:33
or it could be like a like a matte metal if you want to this would have a yes I think I feel like in an Arctic environment you'd want math you're not changing because there's gonna be enough shine off the snow mm-hmm that you'd want whatever can suck up a reflection yeah I agrees agrees why not a daily show because people are here to work and make videos I get to make I get you know we get to make these videos
- 00:52:21
by the grace of our developers who take the time out of their schedules doing their actual jobs to do our videos by my grace Oh poets about me now at this particular moment for the next okay that's out a little bit spec here so the highlights really do a lot of the trick if you notice they'll make a lot of bigger crapped out of layers too it's a bad habit I should stop but I
- 00:53:11
don't I'm sorry gunner I got a clicky clicky keyboard now also a little thing that can help with the material is adding tech lines I can have little screws if I wanted to and so now you can clearly clearly tell
- 00:54:02
if this is no longer cloth when it looked like cloth before which is very important when it comes to rendering and the character artists being able to differentiate what material is what is also very very important and also for the tech artists they have to know if something is is metal or something is cloth because metal doesn't Bend naturally right so like but cloth does and so all that information is very important I'm just rambling now I'm lonely I want to keep painting with your producer sits right over there I'm not going to keep you past time I agreed to with your producer because then your producer Lee
- 00:54:52
I get yelled at by enough producers oh well well what's what's an additional not going for a record I broke the record like three years ago no well yeah I mean we're coming running out of time but for me I think it does need some sort of color to pop it out it does kind of seem yell DS very flashy and so this one seems kind of a little mundane a little bit more utilitarian than one eld wouldn't make so I think colors would help textures would also help I can kind of like do a quick this is not what I would do but just for
- 00:55:43
example I could just put some sort of texture on top of here to make it feel more more I said crazy a little bit more high-fashion so this would be kind of like a step that I might take to kind of spice things up a bit so also the color choice is kind of it's very utilitarian which is not elt but my best time like this is very interesting I think not nearly enough douche in that jacket because he - she oh by the way he's it makes it like a sound effect away he's fine like skadoosh is kaduche skadoosh however usual is it spelling at the
- 00:56:32
inappropriate who's spelling at the sanitary way okay have I used my my my swear currency how I use it alone I'm not gonna answer that question I've been a good I've been a I've been a good I've been a good a good boy for the past couple streams yeah the last dream was a year ago yeah they you don't get credit for not doing so does that reset anytime soon no oh okay alright just check it I just want all my boundaries over if I still get crap from 2015 used to grab the internet never forgets oh I mean that's not to say oh I think this is actually the pink sex
- 00:57:26
is not to add if I'm not I'm not gonna like it thinkin the great it's actually like actually I'm not I'm not a bad combo I'm definitely gonna work on this after after after this yeah this is a lot of fun this is what really this is the fun part of concept for me is actually this stage it's actually not the rendering part because I get to come up with you know interesting ideas possibly test some things try some things and like I said before like crap sometimes I just merge everything down and just erase everything like I've done that before the CAG equivalent of the Star Wars
- 00:58:14
Christmas special I'll tell ya there's a story about that we actually actually Ben and I used to dream about doing that star our version of the old Star Wars Holiday Special whole variety show that singing terrible songs and filmed them like a super 8 camera and something that we used to be used to prove it I'd be down well the the the holiday livestream that nobody talks about kind of there's no reason to do a fake terrible show when you've done an actual so that that dream died out that dream died because thought this was a very large part of myself that day we could still do it I could be like the the the mommy
- 00:59:04
Chewbacca the mama Wilkie you could be the uncle you've actually seen the okay I know I'm just leaving you out there on your own what do you mean that we're Bros what does it say yeah uh a jerk you did bring up the idea before like what if we had like self insulator type of thing like I had a glow on yeah yeah yeah on the ends I think to make it seem like it was heating you yeah that's a really cool idea we could actually have a kind of like in here as well like that's where
- 00:59:54
the glow from the CL do you think comes from yeah interior thing they'll be really cool actually and also adding LEDs makes things look so I find kind of I'm not gonna lie kind of use that trick a couple of times to know but this is pretty much a very good state of wear like I could show the art director kind of like this is construction I'm thinking about you know I mean and this is more than enough to be like okay I get the idea and then I'll of course I'll pitch it to him and explain certain things but this is a this is a good place for like how do you say like just just to present kind of
- 01:00:43
internally before we pitch it up to the other directors what I'm thinking about also you know colors are super subjective there are gonna be people who like yeah this pink is great and there are people that are gonna be they're gonna see the spanking they're gonna instantly be like no I don't want to enjoy us of course like this is probably a bit too much pink for me personally but but not for Brad you don't tell Brett what to wear no I don't know Brad Brad Brad I thought it was Brad he's a predator breath he's bred Sally you were saying bread bread couldn't find a better picture of me than that it's Brad but I love your concept
- 01:01:46
