mm-hmm you talk I can hear talk yeah this is our 3d one is our 3d one here Oh drive them up oh he's getting caught on the grains on the desk it's a wooden desk there ho there we go hi everything what switch the camera feet what hi everybody welcome to star citizen live game to have bauble madness I'm your host Jared Huckaby and joining us on the show this week is lead what would what is your title Corey lead a bubblehead August lead bobblehead artist Cory Bamford yeah Lee profile improv artist lead prop artist Cory Bamford and
- 00:00:54
if you've never seen Star citizen live game dev before that's where we take a Friday and we showcased a little bit of the process a little bit of how we make things for the stars in universe now those of you who have followed the project from gay old days might remember one of our early stretch goals was the addition of bobbleheads and various a desktop accoutrement as they say in Germany and so today we thought it would be fun to take a little bit of time out of the day and go through the process of actually making a bobble head not unlike our chris Roberts bobble head that I made that I made back in 2014 yep consistent disco Dino 2014 in the bottom so Cory with that we're gonna
- 00:01:44
switch cams and we're just going to jump into it cuz we've only got an hour and this is a process that takes more than an hour so we're gonna we're gonna go through it see where we get and go from there you bet you alright so I suppose I just start in engine with our current little bobble head that was made previously we did a bunch of a flair for the cockpits GT the corner there sorry Jared bye bye Jared I like you can I put you up I want to see don't open okay I don't want to see you so yeah this little guy was made a little while ago not by myself but by another one of the prop artists and it's you know just one of one of one of our many armor sets what I was hoping we could do today was maybe have a little look at what the
- 00:02:31
character underneath this armor set would look like we didn't really when we made this we didn't really plan a style for the actual like human face of the bobblehead so my kind of last thing we could do today is just like kind of I've been having a little play around earlier today to get like a style down and we can maybe experiment with a few different appliances or attachments and the likes so yeah I'll just head over to ZBrush which is the sculpting software I've been using to figure out this kind of very basic face we kind of wanted to go for a style that was fairly stripped back not too anatomically you know detailed mostly because I'm doc characterized and I'm not you know the best on yeah sculpting human faces or human anatomy so I
- 00:03:19
figured like you know also you don't necessarily want this highly detailed thing in this it might look a little bit uncanny if his body's you know these crazy proportions needs got a super realistic face right there yeah that's something you got to really take into account when you're doing props is that you know these things have to fill up a room you know that it's people are gonna bring this and then another thing and another thing another thing as you're decorating rooms they build up you have to be very resourceful inches conscious when you build stuff like props oh yeah exactly and also it's just yes stylistically I think it's quite fun so yeah I guess a bunch of different reasons so I figure what we could do is maybe just polish this guy up a little bit there's a few things I'm unhappy with the ears could do with a little bit more definition and I'm just gonna start you know tinkering around with it whilst we talk maybe we'll figure out I mean to
- 00:04:10
be honest if I was usually doing this kind of thing I'd have some reference up on the second screen and I would be you know looking at reference for how a human ear looks and you know some approximation of that for now we're just gonna go for like fox or cauliflower ears just a little bit of noise in there just to kind of give you you know well as I said we do have melee combat in the game now oh yeah exactly so you know this guy's been in a few boroughs why not and in terms of the face I figure we could get a bit of audience participation in terms of what they like for fries and and you know expression and stuff so I'm just gonna go ahead and start painting some colors in I have this brush here that's just literally just painting on the surface of the sculpt I'm not changing the geometry with this but we can kind of you know make some expressions yes you
- 00:05:01
can give him like a nice mustache or something I'm just gonna like rough something in I think maybe give me some eyebrows as well mmm we can change the color of those maybe I know some sort of light brow color maybe a little bit darker whatever you want yeah we'll go for something like that what is the other the eyes sorry I was gonna ask so many chatter saying brown eyes and a pirate smile what is a pirate smile you keep going I'm asking the person in chat what a pirate smile that's we'll see if we get their answer yeah so just I mean I kind of want to make this fairly stylize just because yeah I think it'd be quite fun and also hair and stuff the reason you just kind of bowl is because we can add hair on top is like a you know on a lot of like plastic figurines did the
- 00:05:49
hair is kind of like a set for a mold and it's kind of slaps on top in a different color plastic mm-hmm I figure we could do something like that in the future but I'm not I'm not gonna do here today because that'd be all nightmare so I mean I'm just gonna I'm just gonna start tinkering one of the cool things about Zed brushes you get the the history at the top so I can scroll back through my history and see where I've been for this character so you can see I went through a few iterations earlier just kind of figuring stuff out but yeah we're just gonna carry on tinkering as well so now my comment as people are pointing out and chat right now one of the one of the dangers you're gonna face right here is not just making a Nintendo me well I actually you know what I just realized how much he's
- 00:06:37
always look like an intended me yeah see I was very hyper conscious of not making pop figurine which is why I went for this kind of style but yeah it's a it's a challenging one certainly but yeah I don't know I feel like we could make something work with this maybe we could do uh just some little dark eyes or something I'm just gonna try and figure something out real quick yeah that's totally what this that's literally what this is it's it's during the process and it's always a challenge when you know there's so much mass media out there is making something that doesn't necessarily look like something else mm-hmm yeah I was gonna ask you about the armor while you while you were
- 00:07:24
working I know we skipped ahead I mean obviously some work has been done to the armor before the this these proportions are different from the player armor yep so it's a case of basically we take the we take the in-game armor the high poly version so not the version is actually again put the version they kind of used to they sculpt it and then they bake it down onto a low poly for the engine but I basically we just take the high poly and literally in ZBrush we just deform the different pieces maybe we have to do a bit of rework on certain areas where you know you're stretching stuff so much that it stops looking like the original so we just kind of continue to to do that you know and then we have to make it entirely new low poly for it as well
- 00:08:11
because of course the characters being quite large there you go the characters being quite large they act they dig into the triangle count on those models is ridiculous right so we we end up making something quite optimal in fact I can show you that real quick so this is the high poly model if we look at that you can see it's a bit of a mess this is the one that we we exploited from ZBrush right yeah so we take that guy and obviously that is 5 5 million yeah 5.4 million triangle it's not it's not to bury the lead hero lino let's go back to the helmet real quick just in case anybody's not picking this up this was the year this is the original original high poly sculpt before it's brought into lumberyard
- 00:09:01
that's basically we've taken a high poly model done some stuff to it probably made it even more I'd probably in the process and then we bait we take that and we bake it down to a more efficient model so you know it was something like this like fairly straight back and we basically project the details from that really dense model onto this really low poly model so a lot of this is done by hand some of it will be done by automated processes inside I said brush or whatever package the artist is using and yeah we can basically just take the model and collapse it down like that I won't be doing that today just because it's not exactly the most fun I figured we could just kind of think Roma bar I wouldn't mind maybe giving him some accessories sure we could we could have a little go at that maybe like a top hat or or something just to figure it out I mean I kind of want as well I have the actual helmet in
- 00:09:51
this scene too so if we pop that on in real quick as well you'll see that you know we need to figure out how it looks with the helmet on as well so I basically just very roughly cut the visor out the model you can see it's a bit rough around the edges but we could go back and tidy that up in the future and make the inside of the helmet as well but I just wanted to you know test it out with the actual armors as well of course we can make changes to the armor to adapt it to the concept to the to the face a bit better so say for instance we want to bring this joy in a little bit we could probably figure something out with that if we were to you know smash it in I remember how to cool boy yeah I've used that brush in a while so please forgive my my new penis but we could you know kind of mangy in a bit so
- 00:10:39
it fits a little bit with the profile and so on but yeah for now we're just gonna work on our little face yeah the eyes I think are a little bit too obnoxious at the moment they do read pretty well at a distance which is what I'm kind of going for I want to make sure that this character yeah is is fairly recognizable but yeah not too noisy as well I mean I'll probably just you know work on the other pupils a bit whatever I do on here in terms of could the coloring in I'm doing basically it's actually done on the the individual points in the match it basically gives each one of those points of color that's why it looks very low resolution because it's actually just coloring the geometry it's not like a texture that's being laid on top of it so to speak so yeah as we as we appraise the model that would actually give us a bit more let's play
- 00:11:26
with so this is more explorative we'll end up making a proper texture for it and stuff in the future as well yeah I figure we can just have a little play about with this guy I don't know maybe we should give him some maybe not like a little bit gross give him some you know some colored iris irises I never remember my eyeball and that's me yeah there's still a little bit big aren't they and we could go full anime and give them really really massive that's where it starts to kind of look like me mmm I think it's when you go for those those big pupils and we could even experiment with like I don't know skin colored whatever is and you know there's loads of different styles
- 00:12:12
we can try out there for now I'm just gonna stay with what we have for knifing us looking kind of cool in terms of mouths I kind of like him not having a mouth at the same time it does limit the expression we could potentially sculpt a mouth in it's probably I'm not really sure how well that would work to be honest maybe just personally because my Anatomy skills are not not amazing and we have to spend a little bit more time working on that she kind of looks a little bit weird right well it's kind of the hint of a mouth but maybe we want to leave the expression for you know for like stickers almost we could do a little mouth on him I guess yeah it looks kind of like I don't know they could get some color in there as
- 00:13:03
well I'm just kind of roughing something in like I said it's more experiment it's more experimental rather than like final art so we do we do these kind of processes you know fur fur all sorts of work really not necessarily just sculpting and that we we do these kind of explorations even for things like hard surface assets like crates and and the likes we will you know we'll tinker around before we have something we're happy with and a lot of the time you don't get to see that you just get to see the finished article mm-hmm as an artist it is kind of embarrassing when you when you're experimenting and it looks really stupid and you're like I'm just trying to make it look nice but now that that's that's super important it's one of the things it's one of the
- 00:13:50
missions of my I just hit my five years here the other the other day actually it's one of my missions in the five years here is to explore this process and to show this process to people to you know to show that these things don't just spring into the world you know fully formed it's not there there's tons of exploration you know it's it's you know my one of my favorite you know sayings is that this is game development on game construction and if you watch the show any number of times you have to drink now as I said it development is is all exploration it's it's half of it is finding out what you don't want to do before you find out means you do want to do and yeah it's it's absolutely no no bearing or comment on talent or skill or time or effort or any of those things it
- 00:14:41
is that is literally the process you have to go through and discover what you don't want before you do it when I look at this stuff I can't help but think back to like the old sculptors in the Renaissance era they had to carve out of granite it's it's like it's like did they did they do multiple pieces of granite did they do they start with the head like nope and then throw the entire chunk of granite away and then start with a new one because you know it's it's one of the things that the tools of today now the modern age allow us these explorations where the artists of way back when didn't have it so if you have this ability if you have the chance to explore and to try 50 60 70 things before you settle on what you want why wouldn't you take the opportunity well
- 00:15:29
that's the nice thing about non-destructive workflow this is I mean this is a sculpting is fairly destructive because you're you know I mean we have control Zed right but I still you know you're still kind of that will get collapsed and smushed into a you know a file and then you might not necessarily be able to get some of those previous steps back but you know just being able to iterate on stuff is is really nice actually really like the map I like the mouth being actually you know slightly sculpted into the faces yeah I think he looks a bit creepy I think it's the lack of lip coloration and also maybe just that the the pony looks a little bit kind of like I don't know I wouldn't really want him looking for my window at night at the moment but this seems to happen when I come on the show I always make really
- 00:16:16
creepy looking stuff I don't know what it is you bring out me I was thinking earlier while I was trying to color in his lips and it just made him look like he had been eating Jam like he'd had like a jam donut or something and and he's you know he's trying to hide it yeah I'll continue to work on the mouth I think it's it's one of those things it's kind of yeah yeah well so any first anybody who's watching live if you have any questions about the process of creating props like this you can feel free to submit the question in the chat using the word question in capital letters surrounded by brackets we'll pull some of the ones that are appropriate for the show and give posing to Corey here some of the questions that have come through before like a do you
- 00:17:02
have the rights to do this or like that that's obviously not the kind of thing that a artist could speak to so yeah if you have any questions about the artwork side of it I'm happy to to oblige it is not a CR face a a 1:43 a was asking Sierra face a JJ can we switch back to my camera real quick I can show them that you show them the let's see our face you keep doing what you doing Cory I'm gonna show them the secret thing yeah the main right there you see yeah that's it I have to bring here is the focal length this is where my face is but this is this was the this was our first bobble head we sculpted this in 2014 and true story I gave this to Sandy in 2014 and she looked at it and she
- 00:17:51
goes it's kind of it's kind of better looking than he is isn't it and that was one of my first interactions with Sandy and I thought it was pretty oh you're gonna adjust the thing thank you there you go actually bombs yeah speaking of actually bubbling that is something that we're going to be exploring as well of course for these guys I would really like and it's something we're kind of pushing for more of course it's it's always fairly time-consuming to get you know these kind of features in things like interactive props and stuff it you know you could there's a lot of kind of bigger fish to fry so to speak that's kind of weird now he looks sort of like he's got a weird power so in terms of like interactive props we really we kind of
- 00:18:40
ride off of the back of features that were released for every reason so for instance recently you saw in the the citizen comm demo now just looks like he's biting his lip that's kind of weird in the citizen condemned as you saw things like the dynamic cloth right you know these these features you know they come in four characters they are you know we can also use those on props to kind of get a bit more movement into the world you know and I something we really would like to push more yeah and so things like physical props it affected by physics like the bobblehead I'm really excited to continue to push that sort of stuff in the future you know somebody was asking what's the most iterations you've ever gone through for a single item that's a good question
- 00:19:29
really I think the trickiest stuff it's it's things it's sort of I suppose things like articles of food or human faces and stuff like that hard surface stuff I generally find that you like Undertaker's face for instance I can make a very slight adjustment immediately it feels completely different to you because you kind of improvise with it in a certain way right if I did that on like a box or you know a hard surface I say you you kind of have a I guess a little more flexibility in terms of you know because you're not empathizing with them as much whereas if you squish this guy's head in like that you know you immediately know it's it looks stupid right so I find I find biological you know items organic items the most they're definitely the most challenging in terms of sheer number of iterations probably
- 00:20:18
you know in actual development you have time constraints you could basically work on a piece of art until you blue in the face but sometimes you just need to say you know that's close enough to where I want it that I'm happy to let go of it you know like a lot of a lot of the time of artists if you leave them to it they will just continue to iterate on something you know yeah what's the phrase art is never finished it's only abandoned exactly yeah so yeah I mean I could I could iterate on stuff until the cows come home but you know sometimes you just have to say yeah okay that's that's that's pretty much there we can we can call it all right so I dress a couple questions from the chat for those who have joined later or whatever we are this is Lee props artist Cory Bamford
- 00:21:06
and he is working on a bobble head which is one of our older stretch goals from the 2012-2013 original crowdfunding campaign so these are this is these were cockpit decorations desktop items things like that that were that were agreed to in the original stretch school things through some of our item debt so it's while this may not be the actual item that goes into the game this is an exploration of the process that our props team has to go through in order to fulfill such items that's not to say that these items are coming out today tomorrow next week next month or anything that just this is work that we have to do it's necessary for the game it was a commitment that we made a while back so we're going through the process
- 00:21:57
of what would be involved in doing such a thing and then looking for a feedback yeah I think the main thing about tasks like this as well is just you know we do of course have bigger fish to fry however you know just because I'm making this doesn't mean that you know that has any effect on other you know I think it's a common misconception that developers all do I'll do the same thing yeah everyone does everything and you know so you know these kind of tasks will be done I mean I probably wouldn't be doing this as a higher priority if it wasn't for the stream yeah it's mostly because we wanted you know something fun to play with as a as a props artist you're needed on the savage gameplay pardon now
- 00:22:48
is iterating that was iterating that not everybody works on everything yep now you're right I'm a yeah working on the physics refactor and stuff I would not go very well if you had prop ice-t's doing um you know going into the codebase and tinkering mm-hmm yeah binder over says I asked if it was okay to do this three years ago but I was gonna make a disco and jelly bobble head and send this here my head bobbles enough you ever watch never watch me on any show I got a I broke I broke two vertebrae in my neck back in 2000 2001 in a play and my neck has never quite
- 00:23:39
recovered so I didn't know you were you were in plays charrids what was it you didn't know I was like 25 years of theater really yeah what was your favorite play my favorite player favorite play I've done one and then the other but don't tell me which is which and I'll guess my favorite I got to tell you when I did the favorite play I've done was probably Neil Simon's rumours it's a satire farce comedy thinking I had a lot of fun with that but uh I don't know what my favorite play of all time is I watched Fiddler on the Roof recently my girlfriend made me watch it she really likes old films and
- 00:24:30
musicals and the likes I actually really really enjoyed it I really thought you were going to say she was like tradition tradition tradition I've started doing that in my head when I have when I come to a juncture in my life I do the whole like on the other hand thing you know where it's like off Mary's door and he's like you know tradition on the other hand they love each other that's kind of I do that in my head when I when I have to think about things now just imagine everyone paused around me as I just as I decide what to do cool I think I'm kind of happy with this the way this is coming on it's kind of cute ish I might make him look a little bit more angry she's wearing you know space armor it feels a little bit strict also I feel
- 00:25:17
like his chin is kind of yeah when you take the helmet off his Chin's a little bit mmm maybe we'll give Mike a Kirk Kirk Douglas chin yeah I need to need to pull that out oh yeah you go yep no we need to pull the whole thing down really I think yeah I mean it's kind of nice doing these sort of tasks cuz it takes me out of my comfort zone a little bit of course the nature of star citizen a lot of the work is you know hard surface when I say hard surface I mean you know things like boxes or or you know anything just like made a metal or plastic or whatever any hard forms so when you're working on organic stuff it definitely like I 100 percent probably shouldn't be doing this live because you know I definitely don't do this every
- 00:26:06
single day so it's kind of fun I like the challenge hello he's got some he's got some very good contouring very reasonable not over-the-top anyway yes so that's just a musical you were in I don't know rumors and music okay sorry play there was a player I did a bunch of musicals Ben I was your favorite one that I don't know I don't know how to choose that okay yeah I bet you got some good pipes on you there I was never a super strong singer huh now I do I got through it with my acting like I was uh uh just like letting the blender the rest of them carry or something is that how that
- 00:26:53
works look at the questions your um yeah River text that's not a question we can we can answer here questions about process or what we can talk about at this point I can't tell you what plans for squadron 42 marketing is stuff like that if somebody asked how do you break your neck in a play it was Macbeth it was it was Macbeth and I was Macduff and Macbeth was a former Army Ranger that one of one of my dearest friends and we had this long winding staircase as part of this the set and we're in the final fight at the end with our big-ass broad swords and there's a there was a part where I had to charge up the stairs and and lock
- 00:27:42
swords and he was supposed to kick me in the stomach and send me flying down the stairs we were rolling down the stairs on my stomach and it was opening night and he was really excited and really into it in hoorah and he didn't kick me in the stomach he kicked me in the chest and instead of knocking me down onto my stomach and falling down the stairs he sent me head over heels backwards falling about 12 feet down and landings right up right on my head which point I bounced and fell into the orchestra pit and I was down there for about 30 seconds while I waited for feeling to restore him all of my limbs and then climb back up on set and finished the fight yowzer that doesn't sound fun man you know but I was young and when you're young you're invincible yeah I found
- 00:28:33
that I mean yeah I'm like 27 now so I I don't I'm not gonna hold your jaw like but I don't know if if they count at that point you know who knows yeah I definitely even even though even at my age I find that I can't take the risk so I could before and know comfortably that I would not you know die my body is certainly not what it used to be by imagine you know sitting on a computer all day every day doesn't necessarily help you Don I see your question I'm not going to ask it but I appreciate it I appreciate what you're trying to do I wish I could see these
- 00:29:23
questions Jared nope I don't wish oh my god like um hmm yeah the mouth is still a little bit weird I need to figure that out I was just so difficult to do even on like a reasonably stylistic one he just looks a little bit like he's holding in a fire I think you know there's like a strain to it mm-hmm I know my boss said he didn't like the the he liked the idea then there not being a mouth but I'm gonna continue to try at it but I whenever I get frustrated working on a
- 00:30:12
certain piece of an asset I'll tend to just kind of float about and do something else and you know you can kind of kind of float around and and have a bit of fun I feel like we've lost a bit of his nose as well it's kind of it's no no but I mean that's the kind of chibi look it's that sort of uh you know little button those sort of things so I'm not necessarily adverse to it I'm just I don't if we can make it a little bit more yeah I ain't too bad I still feel like maybe we need to make him slightly more about us look and yeah you could use like a scar on his cheek or something like like yeah in the original terminators you see him in the future you have a big scar on the side I
- 00:31:00
think would look yeah the same kind of deformation you're doing for the mouth let's do it all right oh hello mr. wrong color and shave his eyebrows off real quick also as well like a symmetry is something that I I rarely you know I really should push more on these kind of things like I've got the the symmetry mode activated but if you take that off you can kind of start you know working on more more expressive sort of stuff you know some you know ones face it's truly symmetrical so you know you can kind of just really subtle differences can sort of bring out a bit more a bit more character you know I still think we need to work on this a bit but you know
- 00:31:47
what we'll get there the grid that I think it's the Grizz is Chad is in a color that blends over the background says what finished props you most proud of what's good question I've done a couple of things that I really like I so it's so difficult to call out specific ones purely because it got made into a real thing there was the the original spacesuit lockers the covilhã is another kovorix locks already everyone's the you know the big units the other thing where you change your costumes before I think we got rid of those now but yeah that guy you know I remember when John John rain the guy who kind of makes all that
- 00:32:36
the the physical you know this is some of the physical props for events and stuff like he will he's you know brought into the office and I was just amazed is nothing you know nothing if mine has ever been made like real like that so that was pretty pretty cool hmm other props I've made a I made a ship weapon that I thought came up pretty well the the Kronig laser cannon a camera bought that that's what we called it and I'm not sure if it has the same name in-game or is even implemented yet that was kind of fun [Music] I made the hot dog this in area 18 I was quite I was quite proud of the hot dog I thought it looked kind of juicy food is something that we're exploring at the moment as well the implementation of it from our side you know eating it
- 00:33:26
and stuff you know it's it's a yeah we're um we want to make props that people can engage you know interact with I mean that's you know you have things like the the total that you know everyone likes to total it's just a fun asset stuff like I think so he's asking again the colors are blurring what prop have you always wanted to do for the game but have not yet yeah that's a good question actually I think just small small items like cockpit blare when you see the coast of blurry which coves do you mean by the way Jarrod's I mean I got a new pair of glasses and I'm having trouble adjusting them and in the twitch is blurring some of the colors are merging with the background everybody's name is a different color
- 00:34:13
alright so my colors yep so I really want to see more kind of smaller props in the game you know small things you can kind of tinker with I am really really keen to make like a I don't know if anyone who's watching just played timesplitters 2 but they had like a video game console that you could kind of load up and uh you know you could you could play a little video games on a little silly video games I'd love to make something like that I think I'd be really fun generally stuff this interactive I'm really keen I think that would you know pushing that side of things is always something I've been to chris Roberts bobble head would be quite fun to do actually in game don't know I don't know if that would be yeah you
- 00:35:04
take that you take that risk go ahead yeah I I like my job yeah there's a couple people asking for disco ball it's I'm not going in the game guys there's not gonna be a chef disco or or a disco bobble head or any of that stuff I there's already too much of me outside the game you know there should be one aspect of star citizen where you can get away from me should be in the game but you have got Easter eggs in the game right I do have one I actually have a prop that's in the game it's it's in the locker from another universe and if you if you have the locker from another universe subscriber flare there's a bottle of Cloud CT Lando fever syrup that that a Dave Richard Dave Richard from turbulent
- 00:35:53
not turbulent behavior at the time I did that when they were working on our props those guys were those guys were strung on there like Easter eggs and meme game weren't they I think they did it they did it quite a lot yeah yeah Dave Richard would go on to to develop dead by daylight yeah big fan of Dave retreat out today Richard shout out to Dave Richard who I'm sure is not watching because he's I think this guy needs like some accessories maybe we could give him a top hat or something I just like the idea giving him a top hat really whether you really want to give him the tap back
- 00:36:41
don't you I'm dying to give it to you and you'll you've only got 20 hours left so oh man that's flew by yep top hat I'm gonna do 3dsmax I actually had it open in anticipation I'm because I all right here we go you ready guys we're gonna do it we're gonna do a 20 second top hat and I think I've really gone past 20 seconds but we're gonna do it one minute top hat BAM done look at that all right we can all go home now you know it's been a great stream everyone thank you for watching [Applause] Cheers all right I feel like it should Bend mmm now I'm gonna have to start tinkering
- 00:37:31
with geometry so this is the other side of modeling you you know if you're not sculpting you're doing this kind of stuff where you actually you know moving around points and lines and triangles who was clouded out that was jayjay in the back for the key JJ and for those s cuz this one of the game devs yes we are here with a lead prop artist Torey Bamford hi he's the voice that you're hearing besides mine sir Jared Jared Huckaby nice to meet you I do like that the surname Huckabee I got to say there's something about it who gave you that name my dad shoutout to Jared's dad say
- 00:38:38
all right speedy top hat let's go I just probably very quickly to scroll to this point but it's fine yes it's fun no I did that wrong way around what I put the so I'm taking three objects and I'm attaching two together and subtracting out of them to get like the hole in the middle right so what I did there it's called a boolean wave you're basically taking different shapes and you're combining them so this shape here this is cool this is like a non-destructive workflow so if I take my little my other cylinder good come here oh that's why it's not working I'm sorry guys
- 00:39:26
it's been a long old day just trying to sleep yeah there you go okay so I have the cylinder I want to make changes to this is an instance of the cylinder you see here so when I make changes to it those changes will proliferate to the other cylinder right so you see there the reason there's a hole in it is because we have the third cylinder subtracting from the other two so if I extract that guy out you see him there so yeah this is just a nice way of very quickly modeling kind of compound shapes all right so we have a top part I'm just going to really quickly export it you really having fun with that thing on
- 00:40:13
you would think the the droids no I'm sure I'm just I'm just looking at chat looking where folks we're saying hey what you doing alright there's a question about when we can expect flare to work in pu for the ships and place it on the desk models and bobbleheads like that generally we don't do when questions oh whoa would you do dude I tried to input my top hat but I didn't go very well I'm not sure what I did wrong once so ya know when I I don't think we can answer really any anyone questions it's certainly something that we're in discussion about and currently just sort of you know waiting on features and code and and you know that side of things but
- 00:41:03
yeah it's something we definitely want to do as soon as we can alright come on baby up I think oh no no I've done it I've done goofed here it's all right this is absolutely part of the process there me not using ZBrush in like six months and then decided to use airbrush life and then forgetting how to import a bloody object sorry excuse my French yeah that's not that's not very happy is it oh geez I can never remember how to get rid of the the Rando cubes it's okay guys that's why that's why we have
- 00:41:51
backups I don't think I have any backups what if we there's a lot of folks in chat asking about some form of facial hair maybe that maybe that's what it'll fix our lip maybe he needs a muscle yeah now can ever remembers that brush the whole strange you can load objects and then load more objects and stuff I'm just gonna make a noose there you go I fixed it the day is saved okay yeah facial hair now with stylized hair in games often times it'll be modeled we could try that I probably will do a very terrible job of doing it I will try anyway so I'm just gonna grab a new object in here so I'm going to
- 00:42:39
insert a let me start with sphere I got my sphere shrink him down you're asking for a lot whoever asked this question I'll do my darndest for you I'm basically just gonna start with a sphere and kind of work my way around we got dynamesh on all right we're gonna try and give a nice big beard a big big old beard perfect they can all go home now this is just like the ultimate Balaji beards so I do apologize it comes
- 00:43:31
out a bit a bit wrong but I'm gonna try oh I kind of like that little bit down the middle miss and sort of i+ cool going on here there's probably a much better way doing this but I'm not characterized so I'm doing doing what I can you know you got to do what you can Jarrod yes we like pinch it so one doing when you see these this little window popping up I'm actually switching to a different tool that brush has a lot I mean this is just the default stuff it's got a lot of different tools you can use from like it's also for building up building up layers of you know see err
- 00:44:22
my geometry isn't great I'm just gonna dynamesh it real quick so there's also one of the interesting challenges of this that we you're not trying to make photo realism you're not trying to make something that looks like an actual beard deserves supposed to be up a small plastic toy yeah exactly it's uh that's part of the fun really is being able to explore these kind of stylistic things it does make for a nice you know a nice break from from from realism because yeah as an artist yeah I guess there's any in any line of work you you want a little bit of variety you know so this is a fun little Friday task for me I appreciate you guys giving me the excuse to uh to do this it's kind of looking like an old man I really wanna get that
- 00:45:09
top hat in because I think it would look great with this this very strange white beard he's got going on we're just gonna subdivide it a little bit sure why not there you go so we're just come on now there we go it's gonna give him a fuller beard here yeah I'll do that you guys didn't think you'd be seeing this I hope that's not a bad thing it is I would like to take this moment to apologize if you were expecting something better but yeah what can I say this greets the word I would use Jared I probably I'd say I'm
- 00:46:03
doing adequately you're doing better than I would yeah that may be true he just kind of looks a bit like Sun or snow am I allowed to say that I'm not gonna get sued am i I think we're okay the problem is his face exists below the beard so I can't really gee-whiz this is not how bids work is it I really struggle to grow a beard so my experience on the subject so I hope you understand I'm sure your experience of having such a good beard would enhance your ability to make one but know that beards never coming back you don't want
- 00:46:53
to bring the bid back that beard is never coming back a challenge of some kinds I seem to remember it being like a weed in one of these years I was actually on one of these shows with chris Roberts and and somebody in the chat asked if if I would not shave until 3.0 came out I challenged me to match tape until 3.0 came out and asked Chris I'm like this three point not going to be out by like July and he goes yeah I was thinking like April yes yeah absolutely be out in July and I said all right I won't shave until 3.0 comes out and then uh yeah December Oh dearie me well it could have been worse I suppose right sure yeah it was pretty bad the
- 00:47:44
beer was pretty bad I quite like I quite like the bit I'm not gonna lie I don't think I I don't think we had been introduced back in those days well which is which which release did you say it was 3.0 this would have been yeah 2017 so I would have been at the company for I don't think we had met at that point actually so but I remember seeing your bid and admiring it anyway oh that's not inappropriate don't let us say about only dudes like the beard you reckon oh yeah that's looking that's looking hot what's looking spicy I'm actually this is a very very good experience for me because I can almost kind of I can almost feel what it's like to have a beard doing this for a kundli
- 00:48:33
gaming who is asking I wonder when we'll see some stuff about the development of SC again I recommend checking out yesterday's inside star citizen or any of the other shows that we do episodes that we do well do we put on yesterday I don't think I've actually seen it yet we talked about the upcoming prison systems coming in 3.90 to be sure if any of the prison crops not absorb snow I saved that very nice and then talked about the friend the the improvements to the friend list in the friend service and they grouping oh I did see a gif of that on reddit the new yet a new French system having struggled with the old one I'm excited personally well dude that looks like a beard
- 00:49:28
all right know what happens when you put the helmet on it though much much like the problems we have with the actual characters it's things we have to figure out like what happens when you wear a helmet and you have a mohawk yeah which is actually really really cool if you guys I think we've got some stuff about that haven't we on one of our old shows oh yeah we've talked about it before actually yeah we've talked about it before I thought you're about to drop some exciting spoilers Jared I was and then I realized I'm not ready well I nearly got them guys I tried for you I think the fact it's really symmetrical looks awfully stupid as well all right I I really hope the character you guys
- 00:50:18
don't see this they'll just be holding their cradling their heads in their hands and I think shame as it NAMM clean really wants to fit folks have been trying to hammer some carrot questions in there they finally goes have you done any props for the carrot have you done any props not me personally yet everybody you'll be you'll be you'll be seeing and hearing more about the Carrick leave this month give Carrick give Kerik indeed all right well that beard look is I like it yeah yeah that's
- 00:51:07
not a toy for a little for a little plastic boy that's that's good so you'd expect a little plastic beard toy so but like I'm gonna get someone a 3d printers for me so I can wear it yeah we um we don't we don't do a lot of organic stuff on a props team but we do I mean I'd say the biggest one is probably food really at the moment foods yeah yeah I need to get you here and into a into the u.s. so you can see what an actual breakfast isn't no more of this English breakfast stuff actually I was in I was in Texas for citizencon year before last and I
- 00:51:56
have to say I hope this probably one of the best places to exist hey I was just just astonished I hope I was you know I longed for it in the night sometimes just the sheer amount of food they give you is it's just think it's a Sun unparallel it's truly you know it's truly incredible spoken like somebody who's been forced to endure English breakfast their entire life yep I went to IHOP and I ordered the aisle did the I ordered the logical that omelet they do omelets don't they yeah so I I had an omelet and I was like oh man look at the
- 00:52:44
size of that woman that's incredible I can't wait to eat this omelet and I ate the omelet and I was like wow what a what a tasty omelet that was I'm really sated that omelet has sated me and then they came over with some pancakes they're like and here's your pancakes uh-uh who are they thought they came it comes with the omelet sorry sorry what there's more food it was it was something else I gotta say you've said I don't miss it you've set Chad on fire what is saying that I disagree with me all today groove well that's the internet but just leave it at that okay I don't know what you guys think but that is my experience I would rate it 10 out of 10 so I better go back Ben Park came here and started he was raving
- 00:53:33
about Denny's about what Denny's which isn't which is a another establishment we have here that they don't have that I made it's a Denny's what's your favorite English food Jared this stuff I stick in my bag and bring with me from the US yeah actually I remember because I was I was kind of stuck next to the the second stage for citizen Khan went 29:48 and I had like because I was just I was kind of there most of the day I grow some food boys I was feeling pretty hungry so I asked one of the producers who was looking after us to bring me some food
- 00:54:21
and he brought me like a bowl full of M&Ms and a bowl full of those like fish fish cracker things goldfish yeah yeah I was I was I was I am I think I you know I enjoyed it but I feel like snack wise I don't know I don't I don't necessarily think the Americans have snacks down I'm gonna say it I hope that doesn't really turn into a food a food podcast at this point you guys you guys really don't know how to do chocolate either I don't think I will say I will say I went to the UK and the some of the people on the Play Relations team got me a basket of chocolate and and I had a milky bar I think was called oh yeah
- 00:55:12
yeah bar and was it was a white chocolate no no it was it was it was regular milk chocolate but your milk chocolate actually has milk in it our milk chocolate does not I feel like America chocolate is just like it's the stuff they sweep off the floor after making the bridge no it's not is it I I'm sorry I don't mean to ignite a flame war under space our letters to Corey Bamford share of cloud Imperium games UK send me some some real chocolate please you don't have to send me chocolate actually yes if you do send me chocolate don't send me her shoes because it's not very good Wow I'm sorry
- 00:56:05
yeah I'm just I'm just imagining the media I'm gonna have to have in like four hours so you're not gonna get in trouble now they arguing about Norwegian chocolate everyday chuckles pretty good I've made props for big Bennie's do plaits oh yeah the last time we had Cory on the show I think it was October October 2019 we did it we did a big Bennie's themed prop it didn't go very well it was okay great you're harder news I have I haven't I haven't finished actually I should really sit down and finish that so we can get it in game
- 00:56:52
I'd like it's like a hologram I think it looked really stupid me that up last it was like we made like a 3d version of the big venues logo yeah and I just realized to have symmetry on sorry dude and yeah we made a free version a big bonus logo and ended up looking really like creepy like murderous well that until the very end now I feel like it was going that way anyway like it just it didn't work like it's because his eyes facing different directions and he just looked kind of like yeah I was to work on it but you know I think it's uh I think it's not too bad yeah it was back in October I think it was called the big Benny's proposition I think that was a clever pun title if I remember correctly did you check that out on the YouTube channel where these oh just giving them some deformities it's a bit of radiation around here uh
- 00:57:50
symmetry modifier I just want to bring his new breeze head down a little bit so we can see him a bit more under dammit so you guys think would you put this on the dashboard of your your ship there's a little head jiggling if you had a concert if you had like a you know I was gonna say a concierge top hat but we'll see if you had a other suite accessory of some kind maybe some nice spectacles yeah I think that's that's pretty good now obviously you know we do these game to have things where we have artists come on they make this up in an hour
- 00:58:38
it's it's there's very few things in the world that you can bring from beginning to completion in the course of an hour as far as game development goes but we appreciate our artists you know the character artists the props artists the environment artists everybody comes on the show to explore a little their process over the course of an hour at the end of a Friday at the end of a week so thank you very much Corey well thanks for having me again and thanks everyone for indulging me in some shenanigans and of course bobbleheads as stated at other points in the show are one of our earliest stretch goals they will make their way into the star citizen universe at some point we can't speak to when as far as it is there's obviously other
- 00:59:26
priorities and other things that are going on but we thought it would be fun to explore a little bit of what goes into that process when that time comes here on the at the end of a at the end of a week on a Friday here so of course a little treat yep remind folks that if you're looking for weekly updates on the development of stars is and you can of course check out inside star citizen airs every Thursday on YouTube and of course we come back here every Friday for starters in live sometimes it's a game deaf like you're seeing today sometimes it's QA like we had last week where we where we had Shawn Tracy answering questions about theatres of war and yeah so check those out thanks for watching be sure to check out the monthly reports that went out I believe it was this week the monthly
- 01:00:15
reports for squadron 42 and start and star citizen lots more development information there basically there's all kinds there's all manner of places to find information on star citizen so check that out we've got a subscriber vault coming out if you're a subscriber later today that actually focuses on some of the props that would be made for a new Babbage so you can check you to check that out you know a nice little thematic tie in with today's show and yeah that's it thanks for watching that's Corey pointed the wrong way that's Corey over there that's Cory over there all right sounds really come through the window now I'm not used to seeing you in like in sunlight actually stark here it's only five o'clock but it's dark already outside that's just a great bigger spot like they give you a big spotlight they didn't take everybody
- 01:01:05
we'll see you next week cheers guys you
