hi Reddit uh I'm Chris Roberts and I'm here to answer five questions uh from the Star Citizen subreddit uh for you guys so the first one comes from Forge iron made it uh who asks has the personal inventory system been designed yet and what impacts will choice in outfit make for example a pilot's flight suit will lack the storage capacity of an engineer's overalls W and combat armor would only be able to carry guns and ammunition yes that's all correct so we basically are we we have several levels of inventory that work in the game so there's your personal inventory and your personal inventory is uh influenced by the um outfit you're wearing so you know like for instance a pair of trousers may possibly have some Pockets that could hold two items of size one and then if you have a jacket it could have a big jacket could have a big pocket a t-shirt would have no uh um
- 00:00:50
storage in it at all so those will all add up into sort of your slots and what your slots in terms of sizes can hold in your um uh your personal inventory so like if you wear a big combat that armor suit on top of it it will have some slots for you know ammunition Clips or you know grenades or something in addition to be able to have some small item so depending on how you sort of dress will sort of affect the level of personal inventory you can have and then on top of that uh you know you could also like have a backpack or something like that where you could put uh some more stuff in so it's sort of the items that you buy or how you dress yourself will uh determine what you can have in your personal inventory and then of course your ship has its own inventory and then your hanger has its own inventory so pretty much most entities in the Star Citizen Universe um that are sort of um what we call uh sort of game objects or game elements so like a you
- 00:01:38
know player character will be one a spaceship would be another a location a room would be another all have uh inventory and the inventory specified uh you know and how many items they can have and what the size of the item is so uh there you go uh next question comes from Monkey fetus uh who asks how will weapon part balance be handled in the persistent universe will you change the stats of existing parts equipped to user ships or will there be Legacy items older models that slowly disappear from the universe as they wear out or are destroyed I thought it might be neat to have product recalls issued for the most severely overpowered items due to the them mysteriously developing a tendency towards catastrophic failure uh that's actually a really good idea um so I mean obviously right now it's an ongoing
- 00:02:26
balance stuff so the stuff that you see in Arena Commander is still super early stabs very rough uh we've still got actually a lot of the stuff you can even use now that hasn't even had a balancing pass some of it has some of it hasn't uh and we've got a lot more items that we're actually going to make a conservative effort um to roll out over the next four or five months um to try and get a good base and do the balancing and um so I think uh we'll be ongoing balancing it and in terms of one subsistent universe is playing if we've like released something into it that feels overpowered um I mean I do like the idea if we decide we want to balance something we come out with a new model or something that's going to be improved that the old models stick around in the new model sort of like the upgrade model which is very much the way the world real world Works um and then I do actually quite like this idea that if
- 00:03:15
like you needed to change something because you had to Nerf it you could have like a recall because it's a fatal flaw so that's actually a really cool idea um so and it's a good sort of fictional pretense to be able to doing stuff so uh if we get to that position which I'm sure we will cuz you always doing these kind games then maybe we'll um use that idea um okay next question comes from the Winslow uh who asks if you have a hidden org membership will your enemy MPC organizations the uee for example always know that you're a member of that or and attack you or will you have to commit a couple of crimes before the uee catches on investigates your connections and finds you belong to an enemy org well I think it sort of depends um on kind of like how um open you are so for instance if say you're a pirate member of a pirate organization or criminal organization um and you do
- 00:04:04
um jobs for them but you never actually get caught doing them or seen doing them by sort of you know a govern someone that could report you to the government uh then they you won't be marked by the U as a sort of wanted criminal it's it's really about when they see you so it's irrelevant you know they're not necessarily going to know who you're a member of unless you broadcast it so if you broadcast it or they see you doing a crime then they uh you know then you probably will be a wanted person on U list but if not then you know and you manage to get away with it then just like in real life no one will be after you so uh that's kind of the way we want it to work um okay next question uh comes from I live S I think that is I live s uh who asks how does ship armor durability work after Shields go down do all ship components have the same level
- 00:04:51
of health or does this vary can players adjust armor values at the price of weight and maneuverability okay so uh when the ships go down uh ship components do not all have the same level of Health it sort of depends on uh the ship and the components they have so different items have different amounts of um uh you know whatever you want to call them damage points that they can take and uh different sections of the ship also have different damage points they can take and if you have armor uh that's on that on that part so you can have armored Parts basically then the armor becomes a sort of modifier for the damage you can take so if you've got sort of heavy titanium armor on wing for instance uh you know maybe that Wing could take 100 damage points but with the titanium armor it could take um 200 before it's destroyed kind of thing uh so that's the way it
- 00:05:39
just an armor is actually a plug-in item that just becomes a a modifier for the damage that the part it's plugged into does and it comes with its own weight so when you plug in the armor hopefully you'll see it visually and it'll get damage as you hit it but it will also bring in a certain amount of weight so you know you could armor up your ship but then you'll be adding weight to it which means um how it would fly and how it will handle won't be quite as good if you put weight on the ships in Star Citizen um it will definitely not handle quite the same way in fact you know one way to check it out is to you know play the new capture the core game mode that we have and you get the core which is a lot of weight and try and fly around with that your ship doesn't handle the same way and that's the advantage of having sort of a properly physically simulated flight model with uh you know where mass inertia um thrust to power acceleration all comes into effect um
- 00:06:29
okay last question of the five for Reddit um comes from kras who asks can you tell us more what is meant with the modularity of the caterpillar we'll be able to carry a variable number of modules and what modules will be available okay so well I mean the idea of the caterpillar is there's different modules that can plug into the sort of uh main H um carrying section um and so you know it's a bit early for us to sort of talk about the different modules because we haven't really sort of shown all that stuff fully off uh but you know you would think that you know okay one could be potentially a good module for carrying um uh you know borders on right so soldiers that could board one could be a good module for carrying more cargo or one could potentially could be a sort of medical module or a or a sort of uh Salvage module so those the idea is that
- 00:07:19
these things from plug into into the sort of that main section uh separate from uh where the sort of flight cabin is uh you know um you know not too dissimilar to say maybe something like a star era but obviously a lot a lot smaller and uh you know obviously the caterpillars um you know sort of build a bit more to to Slug It Out in a in a in a battle than say staff eras uh but that's kind of the concept of modularity and we'll have a few other uh ships that have some of the same Concepts uh okay that is the five questions for Reddit I hope you guys uh enjoyed my answers uh and thank you for everyone on Reddit for um supporting us I mean the Reddit uh well the subreddit I should say of star citizens always pretty interesting and active and uh you guys are great so thank you very much
