How do you say your names? Boju. Yeah. It's the part of that because it's not English sound. You know, my name is Benju. BU. Yeah, that's it. That's right. You see that C Martin? What happened? Let's go. Hey everybody. Uh, I'm here today with uh, Chief Technical Officer of Turbulent, Mr. Benois Bosch. No, no cut.
- 00:00:50
No, there's no cut. We're just going Tell them your name, man. Good. Bos Benwa, thanks for coming on. All right. Go. All right. Meet the dabs. Benj perfect. Who the heck are you? I'm the CTO of Turbulent and co-founder. But you're also So I'm also Who is Benjour? Well, I'm a French guy from Montreal. Okay. And um I am a programmer. Programmer. Yeah. And uh part-time artist and uh but mainly a programmer. Mainly a programmer. Uh web programmer. Yes. Yes. Only web. That's a only stuff. So So not not video games, not
- 00:01:38
No. Though I I do quite a bit of 3D development uh using WebGL, but uh that's pretty much my extent of my experience there. Like can't touch engine yet. Yet. And you're one of the creators and co-founders of Turbulent. Yeah. How'd that come about? Uh well, I was 23 and uh I was working in a you know a dot company where we were making in retrospect today a copy of Gmail G Google apps and the company had got funding and uh it was going down like like this, right? The company had no way to survive. But I had met a really good really good project manager there uh called Mark. And so, uh, Mark was losing his job and I was kept on board because I was a programmer and he
- 00:02:26
was management. And so, we started talking about how, you know, we could both of us start a company that comes from the production floor, right? That comes from people that actually make things instead of having a a venture capital that's, you know, injecting money and and so that's how it came about. We just basically started the company with one project. Uh, so we had one gig and and ever since we've been counting the days that the company has left, but now it's in years. So it's it's been a a crazy hell ride because the company's now 75 people uh strong in Montreal. Uh, and uh, you know, we do web stuff, but I I'm loving We only see the same four people every time. Well, because those are the ones working on Star Citizen really. And uh well the reality too is that a lot of them are
- 00:03:14
French and so you would not understand them. So uh but that's it. Yeah. I interrupted you. I was done. Um All right. So uh we're making a video game. We're making Star Citizen. Uh what are some of your favorite aspects about Star Citizen? Oh for well I've man everything. Like I've I've started starships, you know, MMO piece. I was a huge MMO fan. I played World of Warcraft like, you know, no other. I I ran, you know, high-end guilds. I just went crazy World of Warcraft. And so the MMO aspect for me is is is important. Like the universe aspect, the fact that there's a there's stuff to do in a universe that's persistent. Uh for me that's a really in in the science fiction universe you know
- 00:04:03
because all the MMO games are always you know in another you know like medieval thing or whatever like or I played Eve. I know I did I did play Eve but you know it's a spreadsheet game. So moving on this is not a spreadsheet game. That's what excites me you know there's like there's going to be action. The art is crazy amazing you know and so that's what excites me about it is really the the just the setting the immersive element of it. Uh, you know, I'm just a huge I'm probably one of the fo top fans just of the idea. So, Gotcha. You said you were playing World of Warcraft. What server? Uh, Arthus. Arthus. Arthus. First PvP server in the list. So, we know you don't consider your decisions before making them. That's right. First one. Boom. Order. Alliance. Uh, Alliance all the way. Alliance.
- 00:04:50
Yeah. I played one character, one character my entire career. WoW career for three years played one character racing class uh paladin human human yes I was a GM when WoW launched really yes when I came to work here you at the kitchen the first day of seeing people like Darren I'm like hey yeah I know so I remember human paladin yeah 192 days of play time on that character in that one tune I don't know how many play how much time it's pretty intense was an undead warrior that that's Yeah, that's a good skin. That was just something I picked up. Yeah, but you know, the the I learned a lot of stuff doing uh I I I consider that I've learned a lot of stuff playing
- 00:05:37
WoW. Uh leadership qualities, you know, and you know, raiding with a bunch of babies, trying to get a dragon killed, you know, it takes a lot of management out of you. Tell me you're not one of those people that put on their resume that you let a Wow Guild No management skills. No, I've seen that before. I've had resumes come across the table that where people are, oh yes, I 40man rating guild, not the 25 man rating guild. I ran 40 man rating for years. So I have I exhibit leadership skills and coordination, organization. Well, yeah, I I would put it but uh no, I I I love that period, but you know, at some point you got to move on and do and come back to the real reality. And so that's where the company started. Uh well, our Around the Verse interview
- 00:06:25
ran a little long, so we're going to keep this one short. Uh James usually ends these with three rapid fire questions. Okay. Uh first, your favorite uh video game of all time. Video game of all time would be Shadow of Colossus. Shadow of the Colossus. That was a PS2 game. PS1 game. PS2 game. I've seen it. I've never played it actually. Oh my god. That's a milestone game that's got to be played. It looked amazing. I just didn't own a PS2 at the time, so I never Yeah, you should get one right now. and I don't have any friends, so it was never an option. Uh, a second is uh favorite movie of all time. That's got to be Back to the Future. Back to the Future. Yeah, I I love that movie. I'm not saying it's not a great movie. No, you know, like that's the first one that comes to mind all the time,
- 00:07:13
but in the realm of Jaws of Lawrence of Arabia, Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future. Why Back to the Future? I there's like a childhood connection to that film, the music, the idea of going back in time, forward in time, the car. I don't know. For me, it like it marked me. But of course, if I think more about it and I go more into sci-fi, then yeah, that's right. You know, Empire for sure. But, you know, I I just picked the first one and that's You're okay with Marty killing the alternate Marty at the end? Yes, totally. He just comes and assumes his life. Yeah. And that's it. Whatever Marty exists in that timeline just gets murdered, erased from existence. Old Marty gets totally okay with that. I mean, steals the new life for this. Breaks the continuum. Whatever. Like, I would do it.
- 00:08:01
It's cold, man. It's called representing Marty here. The original the original. Is it the original Marty? The new timeline Marty that got erased by the original. And third, your favorite ship in Star Citizen. Constellation. Constellation. I know that's too bad. People are going to say, "Yeah, it's a classic choice." But for me, it's a Millennium Falcon, right? It's a And we go back to Star Wars again, but for me, the Constellation is the one friend Andromeda. Yeah. Original. And uh yeah, that's my ship. That's the one I bought. The first one I bought when I met Chris. It's the first ship I bought. There you go. Rear Admiral package. Cool, man. All right. Thanks a lot. Thank you very much. Uh, that's Benabour. No, Bojour. I'm James Pew and you just met Metadev.

I did it better than he did. You know, there may be a chance that none of this is usable. This video made possible by the ICC stellar surveyors and subscribers like you.
