[Music] hey everybody welcome to another episode of that's the issue episode of star citizen live all things Laura I'm your host year huckabee and joining us on the show this week is my esteemed pal of lore colleagues well no I was gonna try to connect Wortman todos I was like Laurie Laurie news I don't this whole thing is just basically like an extended voice test for you isn't it adjoining its narrative director mr. Dave haddock hello I'm lead writer mr. will White's box Jeff happy to be here so just in case this is anybody star system live and it might be I want you to start us off it to us a little bit about who you are and what you do for star citizen well my name is will Weiss well I am the lead writer here at cloud
- 00:01:03
Imperium games I do all things narrative and then extended from the main kind of scripts in squad from the 42 to mission content item description short stories that we post on the website commercials basically everything and anything that has to do with narrative and lore which in the case of star citizen is everything so that's kinda what I do I can't I don't think and be overstated that Chris is a big believer vine lore and story behind motivating almost everything to star citizen so you guys do touch quite a bit yeah we're big on that sort of immersion aspect of but yeah have any awesome item now close wait I'm Dave haddock I'm the narrative director here so basically what we'll
- 00:01:52
said we basically handle interactions with building planets histories missions basically I mean short stories you have marketing stuff we kind of a little bit of everything so yeah we just kind of aside from coming up with original content we also kind of will check the other teams to make sure that sort of what they're creating still falls within the boundaries of sort of what we've established in the universe so far because there's obviously as many of you know this a little bit of stuff to get through so so yeah we kind of keep track of that as well and we also develop languages and do all sorts of stuff now you bring a good point that there's we strive for a consistency amongst everything there's so many
- 00:02:40
different departments and there and you know everybody's got their ideas or it's got things they want to bring to the table and stuff one of the major things that you do is make sure that what everybody else is doing fits in with an overall sensing theme of star citizen personality of star citizen if you yeah I mean it you know if you've been following this us for a while I mean you know and we've been releasing stories ever since the very beginning and I mean one thing that you know one example is in the early stories we would talk about the alien races as far as like sort of who they were and what their role was and their personalities and stuff but we never actually talked about physically what they look like we would sometimes make illusions but it was always pretty cryptic but the reason for that was because we wanted the artists and the great concept people to be able to create this sort of stuff that the
- 00:03:28
aliens as they wanted to make them so it was like kind of we gave them boundaries as far as like who they were as far as personality and stuff like that but but yeah so we you know again this it's about letting the the team use their imaginations and kind of their cool ideas and yeah we would kind of wolf go but we can't really do that because of this or work with them to try and find a middle ground yeah we have so many talented people here come up with like really creative things so it's not about dictating to them like you know no you have to do this it's about taking their ideas and maybe putting a little bit of a narrative coat on it to ease it into our universe a lot of the times so yeah it's it's pretty fun to be able to work with the team that we have here alright so if you're watching live on Twitch you can submit questions in one of two places you can do it in our twitch chat by pressing your question
- 00:04:16
with the word question in capital letters surrounded by brackets you can do the same on spectrum which is our bespoke communication platform on Roberts space industries comm submitting in either places are going to let us about our community management team pull those questions out from all the other chat and we'll get to as many of them as we can today as possible we also put up a thread earlier this week where we started collecting questions from from our backers that maybe couldn't be here live it also allowed people to vote up which questions they wanted to see address most and do to everyone who submitted something and who took the time to vote yeah yes so we're gonna go through some of those questions now while we wait for the live questions to come in right off the bat the top foot in question when are you going to fix the Russian names like lightning bolts company lightning both is a manufacturer that makes a number of like I think FPS
- 00:05:04
weapons if I'm not mistaken are these smaller components so some of the items they make power plants there's power plants right some of the some of them have item names that sound very silly weapons oh they do matter so it's something where we're looking into we'll get it address we appreciate the comments anytime anyone post up to the spectrum we we try to look at and review it so this one got put onto the back burner a little bit but this was a good reminder all those passionate votes that maybe we should look into it so we're gonna we're gonna check it out about addressing that as far as the names of the individual weapons which you can call doubt those aren't intended to be Russian words those are named after surnames of people in the company so those will not be changing but the as far as the logo itself and the Cyrillic on there we're gonna take a look so there you go so hopefully we'll have
- 00:05:53
something to follow up on eventually we talked about how many different areas that the Lord team touches on what your backlog like I mean yeah I mean I'm sure goes on and on and like look into the future so but it's also it's sometimes it's with easy fixes like it's just about getting correct if we find somebody I mean we're you know what was even trying to ask earlier about it like if we can find a substitute for it then it's just a question of actually putting it on the art backlog of changing yeah the UI team will need to redesign the logo and then the environment team will need a model it to replace all the ones that are existing in game and that someone is gonna have to make sure that that swap goes through so it's not as easy as a task it's just changing a 2d asset because it already exists in game so there will be some like downstream in
- 00:06:43
fact that will have to notify and everyone to do it so it's all these things always have ripple effects that we have to consider but but we're all adding into it and as always the ever-present prioritization yes next question what is the new lore for Drake since John Kruse stated that the old lore has changed now I want to say throughout the bath since I was actually there during the show that's way Juncker didn't state that the or old that the lore had changed you see his exact words if I remember correctly where there were some conflicting statements in the older lore you didn't say the Lord actually changed and we're not gonna sit here parse what John Crewe meant is like but I'm pretty sure he was referring to his Drake's Drake's penchant for wanting a clean reputation but selling - yeah I mean again it's you know it's
- 00:07:31
particularly with like some of the brochures that we're doing like you know it's important to remember that again because they're written in fiction a company is not going to say disparaging things about themselves so it's written from their perspective so they might kind of not misrepresent but like you know the flower up their language a little bit as far as like talking about their own stuff and sort of what their intent is while their actual actions might be something different so now at the same time though even though we're writing these things in fiction we're still beholding to a certain level of accuracy because the you know what we are writing these in fiction but they're still provided to our backers yeah to inform their pledge decisions yeah it's a it's a weird fine line of like yeah you don't want to say like I don't know
- 00:08:19
it's it's it's a it's a difficult needle to thread because you want them to be true to themselves as a carrot but at the same time yet where it's it's it's a ship so I get another great example of Chris's desire to have lower influence and touch everything yeah so so we're not adjusting any of the lore right now for Drake it is it is what it is but it's always hey yeah it's continuing on with that I mean we've been doing some fun stuff with developing their character over the years about the the recent house tour of dredge as CEO and the institution of a new CEO who's really trying to set them on the the straight and narrow path and with the launch of the Kraken that we did at citizencon and that's kind of like the new Drake but there really is a new guy only open up or is he well I
- 00:09:10
mean people have different opinions on what he's trying to do but that is what our young publicly sort of that's sort of one unit depart for yourself man that was a meat question I actually don't know if he's on the up-and-up or not we haven't talked about it all right next question as they are the only alien race fully absorbed into the UE can you tell us more about the devarnè how many of them are there are they all living on the fringes of society or if some transition more successfully than others into UE that society yeah I mean they are I mean as far as actual numbers I'm not entirely sure we couldn't necessarily say I mean I mean there's not a whole bunch of them I mean as far as like they're not rivaling humans as
- 00:09:58
far as their population but they they've been sort of going through an interesting thing because initially they were sort of they were part of you EE Society but we're sort of on a self-imposed exile from it like they kind of weren't happy about it so they were just sort of like they didn't care about anything they weren't they were just sort of just living their lives and just kind of ignoring everybody I mean with this sort of the tavar and Senator storyline that we ran a few years ago is cozy yeah you know there's like there's an element of them that are you know that what to embrace the you EE and they're like hey we're part of this this civilization like let's act like it and let's contribute and stuff like that and so you get some who who follow that belief that don't and and then also with the cozy story we were getting into sort of
- 00:10:45
a small group of them who are trying to kind of resurrect the old tavar and culture as far as like maybe not necessarily as a independent state but sort of as part of the ear as part of their own identity so yeah there's a lot of things that are going yeah we're trying to set it up as an interesting point of flux for one that we we do get to introduce them into the game that they'll be interesting paths for them to take yeah it's not quite there complicated right now it's like do they do they fully acknowledge that we're part of the Yui now and we want our equal rights and we want to like take hold and we're respectable citizens do be as part of that do they want to reclaim their lost heritage is reclaiming their lost heritage means separating out from the Yui and living a brand and like going on there and then
- 00:11:32
there's still the people who have this kind of more lone warrior thing in the Tabar and have a you know a little bit of bad rep from working as mercs criminals are that kind of out there and and all this stuff feeding in together to make a very kind of complicated interesting yeah I mean that's sort of the hope is that I mean cuz again we've talked about like you know the and we've been asked on the forums about you know are there tavar in the military and stuff like that and like you know Sue's cos she was a Navy pilot I believe but but yeah I mean some of them you know are I guess sort of the hope is that when you meet them they're gonna be there's a story behind them like how they're behaving and how their their personality is is there's inherently something kind of fun and interesting about them I mean for me actually they're one of my favorite cultures although the band were rapidly sneaking
- 00:12:21
up on them there who has the better eating habits that have iron or the pen or the banner we haven't gotten into there's a little bit of the tomorrow in the the banner the banner work carrying eaters mm-hmm know those young I'm mixing what oh good no I'm just gonna be quiet you go I'm seeing a time out you bet III mean the direction may vary now is we're flushing hours that are believed to Varner going to be kind of dense nutrient cons and snacking so like like little kind of nutrient pellets not like not like pellets but like actual like you know those recipes for like protein balls that everyone post online and like kind of though is like all day long just a little sack and pop them in so less formalized meal structure that's my
- 00:13:09
current thinking this this hasn't even been run past day yet so you're getting it hot but that's kind of what I'm seeing them as kind of well so our resident culinary expert so that was good and for anybody who has no idea who that tibarn are just a dime-store version of what the Devoran are tavar were the the first alien civilization that humanity went to war with they were very warlike civilization and according to history they launched the first attack and basically like we showed up in their system and they attacked us and it sparked one more we beat them and then it sparked a second war a few years later of one of their tavar and warlord kind of rose up and organized the
- 00:13:56
remaining tomaron to try and take back their homeworld which had been colonized by the humans and then basically started kind of this long protracted kind of guerrilla war which lasted for several years and then he started to lose squadron 42 that's how they first esteemed themselves in the battle that kind of turned the tide of the war and then he crashed himself and his fleet into the planet his homeworld as a sort of last defiant act and the remaining tavar and were assimilated in vbe and basically wholeheartedly rejected their old society and basically just sort of stopped caring and that's the short version yeah that's for a dime character next question how does that go back to PDA going oh it's going well it's still
- 00:14:45
in progress and we're working in and hopefully we'll have something to announce before too long and share with you all so I started it for it a good place to plug that every other month and jump on magazine we have collected PD articles yeah in in jump and jump high magazine so for your subscriber you can get a you can get a head start on some of the contents being created for the Blacktip edia every other month in jumping that's a that's a great point yeah those are actual collected pd articles that will be in the glocca PDF yeah so next question how extensively does the lore team work with the designers of game mechanics um I mean it's pretty close I mean usually again we're sort of we're talking earlier about we've been generating content for the game for a long time and you know as the game is sort of
- 00:15:33
catching up to us and realizing a lot of those those elements like we sort of have stuff established so there's usually kind of a kickoff as far as mechanics go where we kind of will present sort of what information we've we've already kind of released and sort of what the expectation is but we tend to be a little more downstream when it comes with mechanics we let the game designers come up with the systems in the game plate that they want the player experience to be and then we'll take that and see how are we wrapping it up so that it made a sense in in our universe I know one that you were kind of dabbling in recently was the new kind of melee yeah yeah and and again like we can kind of would usually provide some kind of very broad boundaries just as
- 00:16:23
far as like you know oh we don't have necromancy you know in the universe sorry spoilers but be very suspicious if you meet any NPCs claiming to be necromancer yeah doubt them but again like just so we sort of established the very kind of raw boundaries but yeah as well said I mean we usually like want them they should create the kind of experience that they want to create and then we will kind of do a pass on it and and and bringing it a fiction if it needs to be or kind of figure out how to explain it yeah there's and again another jump point plug we were in the upcoming one we talked about kind of harvestable z-- and i got to talk a little bit briefly about our role in there because like you
- 00:17:11
know it's a big thing of like how do we collect it so we really geared that stuff towards what these tier 0 requirements were for the harvestable is like in the case of the rocks or the minerals that they wanted to be mining is that there needed to be a visual hint on them for this first iteration because our scanning is still kind of being work-in-progress so it was important that they have that little bit of twinkle to catch the eye and so for tier zero they ended up design asked that we limit our list of harvestable x' to kind of crystalline structures for the rocks and so that's how that came about so that kind of back and forth for the mining will harvest but then you have a whole line oh yeah oh yeah fruits improve bet based I don't know there ain't no no Laura knows vegetables right now good that's an oversight you just
- 00:18:00
point out I'm not fan vegetables make if we can get if we can get all the way and this game hit there and I'm a single vegetable in it I'll be good next question we first learned to the possibility of caves and underwater gameplay when you wrote the Laura Bua as having underwater caves can you elaborate on the interplay between the Lord team and environment art team and level designer so it kind of it kind of the flip side of this I have the other question we've got your interaction with the gate with the system designers what about your interaction with the environment art teams I guess in some cases it seems seamless and in others like our corpse missing ocean it seems like there's a disparity well we're always still being in development as being an alpha project we will always bump into our current tech limitations and so rather than waiting until we can
- 00:18:48
do everything perfectly we release an iteration like you know the release of our coronary 18 you know that's not the end of it we're always improving and so I think our experience working with the environment teams and level design teams when it comes to planets is a salute definitely different than the game mechanic ones in that every location as we've seen with like our hundred systems has a narrative write-up and that's the the seed of everything that starts when designing these worlds is that they get those short blurbs and again we do a kickoff where we expand it out and we've been going through as the our team moves on to their schedule of now we're going to start building this area of providing additional allure of getting into landing zones of okay we mentioned these couple shops but it turns out we need a
- 00:19:38
lot more stores to go in here or in the end we have too many armor shops now so we need something else here and kind of going this back and forth and and the environment art team it's they're amazing so we give them a lot of leeway just to take our inspiration points of this is an icy moon and going to town on it and what they go back with is is incredible yeah and after that kickoff like the the level designers will go off and they'll start to actually build this sort of you know ground level block out of the space and stuff like that no kind of work with and from that we'll get a sense of like exactly the size that we're dealing with in the scope we're dealing with and then yes will said like well that'll determine like oh how many stores there are you know how many little nooks and crannies are there where we need to populate with people possibly and stuff like that so it's
- 00:20:25
it's a very collaborative thing but yeah usually it will start with a kickoff where we kind of go over the narrative ride up of the system again just to kind of provide a sort of launching place for conversation and then we kind of yes spread out from there and then after they've done their their initial passes then we also come in for our detail pass later on of additional branding of figuring out NPCs and all that kind of detail work that comes a little farther down the pipeline so usually narrative is the start and kind of also downstream at the end for the finishing touches and it specifically addressed the art part missing ocean that you that you touched on briefly are carved not having an ocean was a limitation the tech at the time we were implementing our cargo wasn't we decided not to make yeah I I'm only gonna touch lightly on it because
- 00:21:15
the tech limitations I don't quite fully understand and so it was there were some difficulties in blending terrain with urban environments without putting that solid wall around like that we have it at laura govan and so they're still working on being able to transition between urban environments and mountainous and beach fronts and stuff and that's hopefully coming soon that will get that and so the plan for our corp is to have areas that are natural that's basically much the verse is english-speaking with some areas written in Chinese will we find places where other languages and cultures are more prominent also what's up with the bad Chinese well I mean a lot of that stuff I mean again kind of we're actually trying to replace with with some of the
- 00:22:02
languages that we are developing just to make it more using ban you and she on and stuff like that and hopefully tavar and once we get to that like incorporating that stuff into it so all of our sort of that kind of exotic flavor to it is is more bound to our universe yeah because the artists like like that exotic feel when you walk into an area and you see like this multitude of languages and now that we have these awesome work from Britain art is you know linguist coming online it's we're trying to really switch it you can see some of that already and airy 18 with some of the food stalls have like she on on the takeout boxes and have ban you on the lanterns which used to be Chinese characters and so we're slowly swapping that out when focusing more on it being a combination of common and for the UAE
- 00:22:53
and then there's you know languages so when you do see foreign languages it's definitely less that there's active speaking groups or this is going to be a town where everyone speaks French it's more harking back to the old days that's more reminiscing like kind of how we use Latin now to evoke a certain kind of sense of nostalgia and I think that's in the Empire how some of these old earth languages are used but you drop some post hoc ergo propter hoc on you but can you elaborate a little more on the lore behind Co axiom and the mining of quantum field now I'm pretty sure quack seem isn't us frantically researching what I saw this course like when we mentioned coax it
- 00:23:41
and it is not us it is not another sci-fi franchise but let's talk about that the quantum feel can you tell us a little bit more about the lore behind quantum field are the mining the quantum fields so this is an interesting thing going back to how do we work with game mechanics is that it kind of the design team was starting to look at road of introducing quantum fuel mining into the game and so we needed to come up with the lore behind what quantum fuel was and how it's found to kind of help guide them in how they were going to build it and so we needed like we got their kind of design qualifications of like oh it needs to be you know found in almost every system it has to be like rare for the price but also slightly common so that you're not stuck somewhere yeah so one of the interesting things just sorry
- 00:24:28
to interrupt the the kind of parameters I was really fun was because we have quantum fuel before we discovered jump points the idea was like it had to basically exist in the solar system like our solar system yeah yeah we needed a way to find it in Seoul which yeah which was like a little nice little pig villa so we did a whole write-up and it recently got approved by CR and how these things works is our write-ups will change like once the designer gets their hands on and start implementing or what we kind of came up with this backstory we'll find out like oh actually we need it to be more like this you need it to be less common more calm and we needed to be more difficult we need it to be highly explosive because it's more fun and then we'll adjust based on that or
- 00:25:15
we'll have a discussion with them about if not that than this or adding variations or whatever the the basic idea I can give a sneak preview of some of it is that there are these particles called transients which are like not only effect like can bend space and mass around themselves and they were like this really cool discovery but they were very fleeting and hard to find and then scientists slowly after discovering this like they were able to detect them in like like doing the I'm totally blanking what's a the Hadron Collider kind of a particle colliders were able to pick up on these and eventually they were able to find that these would be stable existing temporarily in trans isotopes
- 00:26:06
where these transients would temporarily attach themselves onto atomic particles and exist and that was the main way we started harvesting them is that certain elements are more prone to existing as trans isotopes that you can then use to harvest the transients and that gets turned into quantum fuel so the you'll be able to find using scanning like you'll find a rock that's iridium and then through scanning it you'll see that it's five percent of these trans isotopes and you'll have to harvest them quickly and if you put in too much energy they'll dissolve the devolve back into kind of normal isotopes so there's a high risk and you have to be careful with harvesting and then transporting them to make sure that you preserve the transients until it's we're fine so
- 00:26:54
that's did that make sense now that is you this is like really new stuff like it hasn't been shared anywhere you just got this approved by CR now it's got to go to design and design was involved in the conversation so so this is on our internal confluence page is full write-up with scientists names and the timeline and all that kind of fancy but this is the first time any of these human know we haven't discussed this public good yeah you just made a strap up very happy alright this comes up in the chat every single time we do a lower a show its top of our core our corpse in universe development tideline has been it has been pointed out subject every time we do a lower show it's pointed out it was just in the chat right now that it doesn't quite match up or doesn't seem
- 00:27:43
match up anyway yeah what are we doing so yeah actually we're kind of gonna roll back the timeline on it a little bit it's again it's tricky because it can't go back too far because it conflicts with like other jump point discoveries and brand stuff like that but but yeah so that we're still kind of slowly rolling out the changes or we'll roll out the changes of on sort of like updating all of our there's a lot of lore that we've written evolved with the dates of when Stan was discovered in the cities built so basically once we got approval to change the timeline we've been looking at every single article that mentions this making the changes offline and we'll slowly once we have everything in shape roll it out in line like it's weird stuff like the that beautiful Hearst and timeline that they
- 00:28:32
built in lore Ville is gonna have to be updated so there's like knock-on effect so we'll hopefully get that all sorted and the new discovery date for the system will be 28:51 with the four corporations taking over in 2865 so gives us a good amount of time yeah it's still very fat we still wanted it to feel like it was an explosion of development and that was important to well and also I mean getting back to what we were talking about earlier with the this sort of the oceans thing like it once hopefully that comes online it'll seem a little bit more believable dead like the entire city will our planet won't be the entire service of a super earth wasn't covered in yeah and made structures and yeah yeah but you also have to figure construction procedures and Paulo improved quite a
- 00:29:21
bit in 940 years - yeah much hopefully hopefully I was a swimming pool contractor for a number of years hopefully stick up my c-53 license and stay cuddling I don't think so actually I might need to read it in other games we're in other games we can find books and data pads scattered throughout the game world some of which were just fluff but others were often closed emissions is the Laura team planning on seeing the game with these types of items yeah I mean again it's it's a tricky thing because you know writing books is an involved process well yeah I mean you know the sort of initial kind of quick fix was was hopefully we can translate a lot of the existing ones into downloadable stories or like stories in
- 00:30:08
the universe that you can you can read yeah so a lot of the short stories that appeared in jump point and are now appearing on the site are considered by us to be fictional stories for people in the universe so those will be kind of books that you can find one of the hold ups is just kind of getting the the UI work in line and they have so much to do that it's considered a slightly lower priority as well as getting like the props for what you're actually interacting with set up and so this is all conversations we've had it's just low low tier yeah and then it's content let's see em I'm gonna follow up I guess from another from when will we see more lore being given to us through in-game
- 00:30:55
missions and items instead of through posts on websites I think it's a good opportunity to talk about how much lower we actually give out through missions there's quite a few uh yeah I mean you know it's it's much more immediate lore I mean I I sort of interpreted this question as like you know again going back to the sort of the tavar and run for Senator thing like doing larger scale stuffs in game but but yeah all the permissions are written in Laura I just tend to be drier corporate missions right now yeah like and we're we're hoping to get more branching missions down the road design on that of where stuff leads into other stuff and starts building up a narrative we're not quite at that point yet but III get you I guess I guess
- 00:31:43
instead of missions with story get some story missions if that different that differentiation makes sense yes yeah I mean more kind of I think it's not protracted but like yeah where there's more of a kind of you're participating in a storyline as far as missions rather than just sort of like doing courier jobs and assassinations and stuff like that but but yeah a lot of these are just gonna be like the the contracts that you pick up the everyday business type missions are just gonna be influenced by the larger lore of the game and so of like oh you're carding Widow from here and you know like oh there's a lab over here that's making the drug and like there's this gang
- 00:32:31
warfare going on the individual mission itself isn't really feeding you in all that lore it's just utilizing the background lore of the world to make that mission happens yeah that's gonna be a lot of the way that we do storytelling medium and also a lot of the ones that that are currently are sort of they're more procedurally generated ones so the idea is that we kind of need replayability and sort of variety so which is sort of antithetical to a story driven character based thing so yeah in time chance talking about Tessa who just broke a lot of her I'm kidding I left us a bastard yeah it's it's we're still I think we've I talked about this on your dev show yep
- 00:33:23
if you talk about Tessa quite a bit yeah we're still trying to work it out there's a there's a big technical hurdle that we're trying to navigate which is not not fun but yeah hopefully we'll figure something else this next question I really like this is somebody's been paying attention for a while what is the current state of emperor Costigan you yeah imperative compared to what I say Emperor said I'm for comparator yeah and somebody used to say Emperor otter used to drive me crazy but imperative costing that's how it has it from now on you know it we started into an in 2944 t-tube you know is with our laura and he was already in paragrah yeah we know that Imperator's have a time limit on their on their terms house Costigan doing right now uh he's doing okay I
- 00:34:13
mean yeah we you know yeah his times coming coming to an end yeah we he the way our timeline works is that through there's one of the timeline post shows his poster for 29-28 but that's not when he was elected that was a that was a sale bid for Imperator's so he didn't get elected until 2940 and he's serving out his tenure term which you're only allowed to be elected once yeah dictators from rising again so someone have an election coming up fairly soon yeah should be it should be fun maybe maybe you'll hear more about that I don't know I remember we had a we had a I just remember in the election of soo Chicago cuz they know but I like that yeah this is me making comments
- 00:35:03
let's see how its art Corp sustaining its population considering there are no vegetation or water on the planet to support a functioning biosphere importing a lot of it is at the center of commerce of the stance I got money they got money and they got a lot of a lot of paths in and out yep so yeah they just import everything they need which is I imagine incredibly sizable but and again as we've discussed as our purpose for the developed it well it will have some Natural Area yes yes but I think overall the you you guys this kind of you know interstellar economic powerhouse does a lot of you know growing like we have Bremen our bread basket that's shipping out all over so I don't think every planet is considered anyways sustainable like yeah
- 00:35:51
I mean there's some pretty hostile environments allô I think it's got some pretty cool environment domes and stuff and so that's kind of like the major infrastructure of why you all have Holly's karting stuff out there is to provide sustenance for all these people living out in the wide berth are there any planets that are just like the agrarian ideal like super agriculturally Bret mandible Bremen Bremen yeah we sort of said Bremen had like it was you know was the breadbasket it was basically kind of designated as an agricultural and AG world type thing so that was what they did during and he was the first of our war that's why they got left alone by the message or a second tomorrow morning that's right and there's a couple other but I'm totally
- 00:36:38
was one in goss oh yeah that's true but they only provide for other planets and gods they're kind of yeah they're their handful of you know sprinkled around why do we not see nuclear weapons 900 years in the future we do I thought I was fairly certain that there was a nuclear payload on some of our missiles but I might be wrong maybe the torpedoes may be torpedoes yeah I don't know I thought we had them so yeah so a little bit what you're saying is that they're not just automatically outlawed or anything there's no I mean we haven't done anything you know specifically called that out it's a thing so I don't know I guess it would actually be kind of a design question ultimately of like whether they want to include it as a as a damage type we talked about like
- 00:37:25
radiation level damage I think if we didn't have them like coming out I would definitely be limited in the amount of damage Thea we wouldn't condone the self like planet killers to average civilians there's no reason why the average person needs that level of firepower figuring that most so the weapons are supposed to be defensive in nature yes when civilians get their hands on it I can it so it's not the same as what's happening with our next question will there be an artificial general intelligence Android characters in Laurie no we've talked about this several times people I like robots yeah I mean the sort of the I the idea was that yeah there would be sort of non
- 00:38:16
synthetic human robots running around rather than AI driven stuff I mean part of it was it was it was it was originally just a stylistic choice I mean part of it was to explain why because obviously an AI you know would pilot be able to pilot your ship a lot better than a human pilot would so it was sort of a justification for Chris of like why he wanted people to be in their ships flying around and so the second we started to introduce a I and you know these super brains like it would take the human you know ability out of the equation because they would just be able to do operate it such a faster speed and that it would just kind of it was not the style of world that he was looking to build so that was he sort of the
- 00:39:05
initial thing and then we started coming up with all the sort of lore trappings of like all the failed attempts by humanity to try and try and develop AI and always goes wrong there was like the traffic incident obviously the Artemis was a huge huge catastrophe so yeah yeah well I'm gonna try to remember what happened on the arguments I don't disappear enough yeah there's an old pilot and the ship number never came back yeah yeah missed that one hmm early early time capsules but yeah I think we have very advanced computers with that kind of simulate human interaction like the you know when you're contacting an air traffic controller at some of these stations you get you know very friendly sounding I think it's definitely technically called dumb AI yeah it's like it's not making its own decisions
- 00:39:55
it's just it can react to input but I think overall the the path of advanced robotics in the empire headed towards where our complicated drones like the build machines for the most ideal eyes purpose and shape for it is and humans aren't the best at a lot of stuff like it was always that weird thing of like oh you're gonna build the ultimate fighting robot you make them look like a human like no you make them well it looks like a tank with a big gun like so like that that kind of thinking of in a and interacting with humans is marching the Terminator I and I and I think it's also this kind of functionality of the complication of having basically like these robotic servants that look like humans is also like kind of a squidgy
- 00:40:43
yes point in their empire for their comfort level with kind of pushing out like you know not not having that kind of intelligent humanoid slaves for lack of a better word yeah and so say yeah so yeah so very intelligent drones and robots and stuff like that but just not even shaped yeah okay back in 2017 Dave haddock said he'd get back to us on a question about the lore behind the in-game economies of the UAE Xian Banu and vandal does anyone looked at that at the post it was in the in the old ass that you have dolphins yeah does any part of the question was does any part of the you EE orb anywhere Xian have a guaranteed basic income from the lore perspective not from a gameplay yeah I
- 00:41:33
mean it's it's I might have to get back to you on it in in 2021 let's yeah 27:19 get 21 yeah I mean again this is this would be from sort of the the lore fiction perspective like not not reflective of gameplay or player experience and stuff like that song that caveat that but it sort of makes sense to me the idea that the you EE because they have the common law thing which is sort of like the basic rules that any every planet in the Yui has to abide by whether it's represented or not these are the foundational kind of rights and sort of services that the public can and can and should expect and it it makes sense to
- 00:42:22
me that they would have organized a kind of a basic income level it might come out more in the form of public services though rather than waving you credits per se like to you know providing basic levels of health care shelter and food like that you can have access to yeah because you know we gameplay-wise we don't want you to not be able to respawn because you're broke like so that there's a certain level of health care I expect but but as a I mean as David country almost don't don't expect if we do have basic income levels for players to be able to get free 500 credits every year well I actually I read that as like minimum wage that like they were being paid at there was a minimum that everyone would if they worked at a job had to be paid oh I interpreted it as like that thing of like everyone gets
- 00:43:10
$5,000 oh yeah okay okay yeah I was thinking a minimum wage that like they would establish that a basically a empire-wide minimum wage you know my time to like our BL a certification for jobs right like we have this like certification process that legal jobs go through that mean they need the safety requirements they like the company is legit and it might also be that they meet a minimum payment requirement you have a job and those are kind of the up-and-up jobs when you see that contract you know like it's safe it's good and then the more interesting jobs will not be certified sure yeah yeah there we go so it took me two years but a in Laura Lyons we have like some laurent de chillon band new and vanduul
- 00:43:58
economies that is still very much a question up in the air about whether the players will be because all those species deal with well not the vanduul but ban you and she on deal with human in UEC that might be the way that you end up acting with them for the entirety of the game that it's hard enough doing a one good economy so we'll see how it turns out I mean there's definitely been talking interest in it but it's definitely a down the road kind of wouldn't that be great and it also might be again a disparity between sort of the fictional universe versus the player experience of like yes the Xian probably have their own economy but will the players see it like well said yeah they'll all accept you exceed yes next question was very simply what do you
- 00:44:47
guys do every day we like to go to the coffee bar get our drinks and then slowly walk the hallways discussing more yeah usually usually takes five or six takes until we get it right I mean you know kind of one of the fun really fun things about this job is it's tough to explain sort of what you do everyday it cuz it constantly changes you know there's obviously ongoing tasks that we have I mean there's squadron 42 support there's working with live design on PU stuff there's working with marketing on stuff there's also this sort of the fun Laura stuff that we do of like food or melee systems and yeah it's kind of almost
- 00:45:35
cyclical by the the quarter breakdown like at the top of the corridor it's usually starting to chip away at a lot of the the squadron 42 written text which we have a lot of and we've been making a really good progress on that stuff and then as it heads towards the middle of the quarter we start focusing on finalizing scripts for the upcoming quarters gameplay like now that we have the design has enough time to put together all the information we need to write the scripts we start planning for that kind of recording shoots and then at the end a lot of the new mission content and in-game stuff will be finalized and we'll start doing some of the live design team support for finishing up mission text yeah which is a lot of what I've been doing these last couple days of getting everything shipshape for three seven and also with the later in the core two if we try to
- 00:46:24
drop in the game a lot just to see sort of you the PTU and stuff like that and see what's working what's not get ideas for stuff to do that would be fun down the road I want to clarify you started your conversation talking about the written text for squadron 42 and then you moved into stuff like recording those P related oh yeah yes yeah it was you only specimen for it to the beginning sorry that's the Phi the switch over to P oh and make sure people understand that you were doing some written text for some you know written stuff that you find it's quite a 42 but then yeah performance stuff you were just in you were just in the UK doing some performance stuff with 4p you stuff yeah like like some other things like you know we were releasing new Babbage Assyrian it's a location and so there's some vo work that has to come with their like you know our sales boy or an air traffic controller for the area so kind of some of those stuff was coming online
- 00:47:10
and yeah the Walzer massacre is presented as a turning point in the Empire's war against crime what were the overall consequences of that event on the UAE s or criminals behavior uh Walzer massacre yeah that was the the backstory behind Star Mercantile Marine map of the horizon the other one yeah and so basically after tellers run security had reestablished threw ourselves in the system and Damien was kind of this outpost where a lot of like
- 00:47:57
nice families were living of the security people and everyone thought they were safe again and the walls our crew had been kicked oh not the horizon didn't horizon crew had been kicked out during the sweep and they didn't like that and so they attacked Damien and yeah the idea was that they were gonna take over the base and use it as a stronghold they're gonna kill everybody on the base take it over but Walzer was kid lady too and everything and sent out the SOS which is why it was named Marines assaulted it yeah so I mean as far as the I mean it was best basically sent a signal that that Nexus was not secure so it rebola start of the we ease attempts to crack down on on the criminals that were refusing to sort of
- 00:48:45
give up their land so I mean there were some I mean weirdly enough like the walls are there a bunch of events that that kind of were weird turning points for that war on crime because the Kellers run as what kicked the whole thing off and then there was the bombing of Cathcart which happened in kind of direct retaliation yeah it was part of their they're sort of like we're getting tough on crime initiative and then the Walzer massacre was actually a retaliation for the bombing stuff so it was sort of a rolling mess yeah it's this ongoing struggle because there was this kind of like tightening up of like oh we're just gonna focus our resources on the systems we can control and we're gonna kind of ignore these problem spots but then the rot got so bad that the problem spots spots started spilling
- 00:49:33
over into the nice parts and so like there was this pushback of like oh we gotta clear out and secure it but then it's kind of like as soon as you clear out one nest it another one pops up and yeah it's kind of this ongoing struggle of like the empire dealing with such a large amount of area to secure and to protect yeah because it was also it was it was the reason for the name Nexus was that it was sort of at the center of it was four or five unclaimed outlaw systems basically Cathcart being one of them and so I mean Keller's run again because it was the first time where they realized like we we really don't have control over here and it's actually very dangerous to have like basically a small mini nation within the kind of heart of the empire and so that's why the UE kind of you
- 00:50:22
know reestablished dominance over Nexus to break it up to prevent them from basically kind of being able to have a really large chunk of force and four or five systems that was uncontrolled but then like you know the vanduul attacks increased and like all the spending went towards so now that recently claimed war effort and now we see the repercussions of that in the new militia focus that's been happening of where the UE is coming on people you can deal with it guys which is exciting gameplay for you all but like like kind of forcing like the average Joe citizen to be out there with their gun defending themselves their nuclear weapons the whole time you're talking I just kept thinking sounds like these guys need a Robocop as long as it's not if it's shaped more like Edie I think we can do it somebody the chat was like
- 00:51:10
space space McGruff it's the difference between the two of us I was thought about he was thinking McGruff just long as the criminality Robocop and McGruff are two equally valid approaches to flesh behind hey how much of R&R in branagh we mentioned brought in earlier today and will they ever rise again maybe I mean that's one of our kind of fermenting pollens with Savarin so yeah I think it will depend on a lot of stuff on how it goes down in the universe and is it true that Branagh was named after the famous writer and director at Mary Shelley's Frankenstein okay kind of print oh yeah no yeah it was actually I think it was a pete mackay know that Savarin question the
- 00:52:01
first of all war ends in early 25:46 as okay I love this one okay the first Aparna war ends in early 2546 as said in the writers guide part 2 ivar Messer rides as following popularity to become a high general however it is also set in commlink this day in history the path to prime citizen that Messer is already a high General when the atrocity at giada occurs which is late 2545 whatever so a full no prize on this one after called it out I did my research and there was mistaken the timelines which should now hopefully be corrected so yes the first of our own war ended early in 25:46 literally after that you know Messer went from commander to high
- 00:52:49
general and in his high general he kept petitioning for the dissolution of the tribunal of the tribunal while this was going on all of a sudden terrorist attacks associated with she on that later claimed were orchestrated by Messer himself in the book the path to prime citizen claimed was ongoing so those happened in summer fall of 2546 all leading up to when that final big attack occurred Messer got his way tribunal was dissolved and the start of the position of prime citizen with oddly enough in the emergency election on December 15th 25:46 he won judgement day so this should all be reflected now thank you very much for catching that please as always let us know when this stuff comes
- 00:53:36
up you pull the red shirt he absolutely did all right when unrepresented planets are denied representation in the Senate do the local governments have a limit to the number of applications trying to rejoin or join them the first time this was an interesting question we actually thought about this I I would say no I feel like they could reapply as much as they wanted to because I think the circumstances could change on the planet they could make amends I don't know if they would necessarily be told why they didn't make it but it would just be a thing of like they would get shot down and then they could reapply yeah I'd be like kind of those parole hearings if you haven't done anything really
- 00:54:23
different than just getting stamped no again yeah so yeah which is an interesting question I'm kind of curious why he asked it yeah it may be think that somebody was writing a very specific fanfics an answer to this again it was a very very specific place yeah yeah oh no oh we got like we got a couple minutes left I don't know if we can pulled any good questions from the or Dave I know you've been working on some poetry if you'd like oh yeah that's my slam poetry book that's really really something know when guests go rogue alright just for that I'm gonna I'm gonna do the question I skipped before at what point of development we'll see how you go back and fix all the consistencies in life if it does improve it's uh we fixed all the time I mean
- 00:55:11
yeah we're are constantly you know again because it's seven years of lore then and and that's updating based off of like gameplay stuff and stuff so yeah we're gonna totally miss stuff so by all means and sometimes if we haven't yet it's because it's a really complicated fix or it has downstream problems or sometimes something that is perceived as an error is in fact not that's also why it hasn't been fixed when will sit world be completed synth world this world simple axiom does not belong totally embark in Florida that is the question that plagues people in the UAE every single day we've introduced some of these story lines like synth world which is kind of interesting development for us is that we want them
- 00:55:59
to resolve in game yeah so sometimes if it seems like a story line is kind of gone into the background a little bit it's kind of we're sitting on our hands a little bit until we can do it in the mission format experiencing it rather than just starting storylines and kind of resolving them on the website we want yeah it's much more fun if you guys are around to kind of maybe not affect the change but like just to be able to experience it firsthand because I mean originally the idea was the synth world aside from being a sort of economic drain on the Yui II was actually it was it was gonna be a resource dump and the idea you know that it was basically gonna be a mission hub which just had a huge kind of grocery list of resources that constantly need his stuff so it was always gonna be a basically a source of employment it was kind of the under the hood type explanation for it but yeah I mean I
- 00:56:47
think exactly what Wilson you know a lot of the stuff we want to kind of play out while you guys are actually able to experience it firsthand yeah it's tavar and on Bronto and stuff like that in the live chat so he's asking we've got the starter from misc we've got the Star Ferry Gemini who in lore began life as a Starfarer from misc and then was retrofitted by Aegis mm-hm so in your in your opinions is the Star Ferry Gemini still a miss ship or is it an age issue let's go yeah I'll miss even you even after the refit from ages I don't think the reef it is enough to warrant a complete yeah my branding that's actually just seeing it from ages though
- 00:57:34
but it still feels like the misc hull yeah it's not like I can go to Twitter to dealership and sometimes but we're gonna find out that the whole thing is covered in aegis logos are we like I'm actually not sure in game I'm forgetting Oh does it okay so then ages I think it's kind of like with that with the Shelby Ford Mustang yeah it's still a Ford Mustang even though Shelby's taking it and done their stuff they may stick but let me stick their logo on it you may still see the Shelby Cobra on there but it is still a Ford Mustang yeah yeah it's got the bones up so what's the what your folk down he back to Miss [Laughter] southern live chatting awaiting last
- 00:58:22
before we let you go we're star citizen's in twenty nine forty forty nine right now I will turn the 30th century what's earth like uh I mean we'll see when we talk with the environment funny but from the levorg a so so so so hedging that better not there but a strictly from a lore perspective right now in your minds what's earth like they went through a rough patch before I mean there was if really enough I think it was actually in the architectural dock that somebody very fastidious Lee copied off of an old 10 for the chairman there was a point in earth where basically in like the 22nd century 21st to 22nd century right before we we were able to
- 00:59:11
terraform Mars where like overpopulation was a huge problem and so it was almost reaching a tipping point so there were water wars and it got really bad and stuff like one of the main driving points for moving humans out through yeah first are developing this technology was the fact that it was like just to alleviate the pressure on on earth and so thankfully they were able to do it after those kind of disastrous setback but but yeah I mean it feels like now it's better yeah there was the great human diaspora like now that humanity spread throughout the Stars I think like I believe we talked about that they may have done like some light retail forming to kind of get earth to its glory days in terms of the environment of cleaning it up a bit and
- 01:00:00
like maybe there's more parks and green spaces preserved than it used to be like I mean we had talked in I think it was in lost generation Tonya goes to earth and there was the idea that like there were some kind of old structures that were still standing that they had basically encased and sort of a protector at the shell type thing so it I mean it definitely you know it's the the pearl of the Empire as far as Earth is concerned I was gonna say I think the citizens of Terra would have something else yeah they thought we do but they don't have the history and what they are the planet that humanity chose terror or earth I'm aghast ma'am that we keep reusing the same in Terra Earth I
- 01:00:52
actually like bad news base guys don't believe you don't understand how that game work Steve no all right well that's it that's it for this edition of all things Laura thank you so much for joining us everybody I'm also told that we are indeed planning to move alpha 3.7 to evocati today Oh so if you are a member of evocati you can look forward to that so it looks like it looks like from my little chat here that we are all systems go I don't know when that'll happen obvious there's still many hours left in today but keep an eye out for that if you remember be vacati and of course at some point afterwards to PTU and then of course wider release so yeah that's Dave that's will he prefers Terra
- 01:01:41
he prefers earth I can tell and we'll see you next week everybody you thanks for watching for the latest and greatest in star citizen the squadron 42 you can subscribe to our channel or you can check out some of the other shows and you can also head to our website at
