Oh man. All right. So, what are we talking about in this one? How long did you get hair so long? You growing it out. 11 years. 11 years. Yeah. Damn, dude. That's commitment. That's actually not very long for 11 years. Uh, we're doing our intro. We're doing our intro. I'm just saying, bro. Like 11 years. I would think like Just roll roll the credits. 11 years with maintenance. There you go. You got it. [Music] correlation. Thank you guys for joining us on Meet the Devs. I'm James Pew and I'm here with associate 3D artist Gage Halman. Gage, how you doing, man? I'm doing

  2. 00:00:48

good. Thanks for coming on. Yeah. So, how did you get started with CIG? Uh, so it all started with the TNGS competition. Yeah. as you were on team Shimapan. Shimapon. Yeah. How was that? It was uh it was a crazy experience like um I mentioned it before already so I won't go into that but um it was hectic but I learned a lot because that was my first experience with a game engine actually and games in general. How did you get started down that path to be like you know 3D associate artist? Um so I've been a generalist for a long time but um in college I focused on rigging, character setup, that kind of thing all in Maya. And then when I came here, uh, pretty much everything switched over to Max and I sort of picking up my old generalist, um, skill sets again and I've just been honing that ever since. Have you been in the gaming industry long? No, actually, only six months now. Yeah. Oh, just when you started here?

  3. 00:01:37

Yeah, first one. What were you doing before this? Um, directly out of college. So, I was finishing up schooling while I was doing the competition. Damn, you're quite a overachiever. Yeah, it was it was nuts. But, I mean, I have it all to think of my friends. Couldn't have done it without them. Mhm. We worked together on this one really hard, but uh it was a good time. You still talk to your TNGS buddies? Yeah, pretty much every day. Um, one of them works here, so I see him a lot, but um the other one, Simon, was the team leader, and uh we still talk a lot, keep in touch, and he's finishing up his degree over there. Nice. That's really cool. What did you think when you first got here? Uh I mean, I love the area and the office. The people are great. Mhm. So, I mean, just as most of most of the people, but uh like I really hate disco like right right god. All right, continue.

  4. 00:02:26

What's his what's his actual name? Jared. Jared. Jared. Yeah. Okay. I never knew that. I've always just heard this. Yeah, we're going to leave that in. All right, keep going. So, I really didn't know what to expect. This was my first job and my first industry job. So, I mean, I was just kind of uh rolling with the punches. It was nice. It was a really slow start. Met everybody. Um, and actually the ship summit was right after I got here, so I got to meet everyone from almost all the studios. Yeah, Chris Smith came back in and he was the one who sort of like mentored me a little bit when I first arrived for a test, that kind of thing. And um, the place has just been getting bigger ever since I got here. Or did you always want to be in the video game industry or? Actually, I did not expect myself in the video game industry at all because um I was originally just doing film stuff, you know, just like um film rigs, uh dynamic characters, that kind of thing. And then it's a whole different workflow

  5. 00:03:14

for games with an extra, you know, proxy set added on, that kind of thing. But um I mean, I like it and I feel like I'm actually more motivated to do this just because there's more innovation to be had. Is there anything about this particular project in particular that you find more interesting than others? You said you want to be in film, but I imagine you you're familiar with video games. Well, I mean, I guess the scope of this game is to be like a filmque adventure. Mhm. Because it's supposed to be to the point where the scope is so large and there's so much possibility in this universe that you should be able to create your own adventure that it feels like you're living an action film. Why are you doing that, James? Why are you doing that to me right now? To disco my ears. Oh, my bad. Okay. All right, man. We're going to let you out of here. Before we go, we got some rapid fire questions. You ready? All right. Favorite movie? The Prestige,

  6. 00:04:04

I think. Prestige is that with Christian Bale and Wolverine. And Wolverine. I have seen that. It's the one about the uh magician, right? Yeah. And then there's that twist at the end. I know what you're talking about. We can't talk about that. No, we can't say that twist, but I have seen that movie, which is amazing because this is not This is a rare thing. I've actually seen the movie. Favorite video game. Oh, it's a hard one. I gotta say Dead Rising original. The original? Yep. Interesting. Why I could play that? I think I've actually played that game maybe like 50 times really beating through it. It's just it's the perfect game. Really? You don't play it for like 10 minutes and get upset. The timing is weird. And the I love how terrible it is. The game is broken in the best ways and I love that. I don't know, man. I mean, obviously I'm not saying don't like it. I'm saying I don't know if it's broken in the best ways. As a rapid fire best game, that's got to be my choice. What? Dead Rising 2 didn't do it for you. I me and my friend were so hyped

  7. 00:04:53

for that for the longest time and like we you know were like live snapping each other as we were buying it. It was a good moment and then we played it. It just wasn't it wasn't the Adam Wait, what was it? H I was about to say Adam West. Uh Frank West. Frank West. Yeah, it wasn't the Frank West experience that I wanted. What was the guy's name in the second one? Nothing important. Yeah, I can't forget. He's like a He's like a BMX dirt biker dude, right? Yeah, it was weird. Yeah, it was. All right. Uh favorite ship in Star Citizen? Oddly, I want I've never heard this one, but I love the Avenger. The Avenger? Yeah. Why? I It's just a sleek, nice looking ship. It is pretty, huh? Yeah. All right. Thanks again for joining us, man. Thanks for having me. Been a pleasure to get to know you. I'm James Pew. This is Gage Hailman. And you just met a dip. God, you ruined it. You ruined the end. We had it. Hey, I'm

  8. 00:05:40

James Pew. This is Gage Hallman. Say bye, Gage. Met a dev. Shut up. You said you just met a dove. Did I Did I say a dub? Yeah. Cut it. Now that's it. The whole ending right there. Yeah. I thought you were going to nail and I was
