greetings citizens and welcome to the very first episode of our brand-new weekly broadcast reverse the verse I'm your host community content manager Jared Huckaby so wait didn't we already do reverse the verse before we did sort of those of you that have been here for a couple years might remember the informal web series that we did way back in the day begun by our very own Ben Lesnick and featuring such memorable members of the star citizen community team over the years such as will Lewis James Pugh Alexis Lesnick Thomas Hennessy Justin chambers and more that show was a was a very casual chill stream where we reviewed the events of the week answered questions posed live from the community and essentially we just hung out with the fans now because

  2. 00:00:59

the only constant video game development has changed in 2017 we switch things up with a new type of broadcast called happy hour where even within that format there were four different variations of that show you could see each and every week whether it was the interview where we sat down with developers the showcase where we played the game with members of the star citizen community the museum where we explored one of the games from history that makeup star citizen's DNA and of course the game dev were members of our development staff came on to create game assets live and do their very best to try to get me fired in the process it was a good show for 2018 we're bringing with us a little bit of something old and a little bit of something new the new reverse diverse live will still keep the look back at the news and content from the week with

  3. 00:01:46

a dash of the personality and irreverence that I can't seem to repress at times but mixed with the more informative developer interview segments from happy hour and a sprinkling of some occasional community spotlight moments from the now retired citizens of the Stars it's a new mix and as usual we'll continue to tweak it each and every week again the only constant in game development is change and it'll be my job to try to bring you as much variety in the Friday broadcast is I can manage I hope you'll enjoy it with that let's get the show started and move on to our Week in Review now this isn't so much about last week as it is still the biggest news story for star citizen at the moment alpha 3.0 is out the teams in studios around the world brought star citizen's biggest patch to date across the finish line right before

  4. 00:02:34

the holiday break and many members work tirelessly over the break to continue tweaking and twerking and hot fixing things to improve the overall experience for all backers now when he hadn't released a patch to our live environment since two point six point three earlier in 2017 so it was not only a great moment for everyone on the teams at cloud Imperium games and foundry 42 it was also an important reminder to everyone everywhere that all star citizen game environments whether the private ones for our evocati test flight the more accessible public test universe or the open to all backers live alpha well they're all testing environments we appreciate each and every one of you who are taking the time not only to hammer our servers but to submit reports to the issue council post about your experiences on spectrum YouTube or

  5. 00:03:22

twitch and just participate in the shared experience that building the first-person universe and best damn space sim ever for star citizen now recently a Chairman's club newsletter went out to concierge members announcing that our very first private concierge event hosted here in our Los Angeles studio will happen this year on May 4th the first tickets for this event went on sale right at the beginning of this broadcast so I'm guessing they're almost certainly sold out by now but there's going to be two additional batches going live on the storefront today both at a 5 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Pacific it'll be an interesting evening to be certain and for those of you who are unable to attend we're gonna have a sort of video diary of the party available to you guys in the neither the days or the weeks afterwards so following the event so nobody gets left out this month's

  6. 00:04:12

flyable subscribership was announced and it's the retaliator bomber one of the earliest ships worked on by our very own nathan gearsley at a foundry 42 it's a ship that some say maybe hasn't found its niche in the star citizen the universe yet but I'm willing to bet when the day comes that capital ships enter the fray we're gonna see the sleek lines of the retaliator bomber in the universe a bit more than we do today subscribers can go give it a go now in other subscriber news we closed out 2017 with our annual end-of-the-year subscriber poll and the results and the results the results were posted in this week's subscriber newsletter you'll see some of the changes coming to subscriber perks as a result of this poll in the coming weeks and months ahead but it's nice to see just how many of you like jump point as much as I do and I do want to give a special shout-out to the 594

  7. 00:05:01

  8. 00:05:50

getting alpha 3.0 out the door to you before the end of the year and the ever verbose Tony's Rebecca pontificated on a number of new features and processes were working on in the new year to make the overall star citizen experience everything that we want it to be Kris and Sandy also made mention of another new broadcast that will begin its run each and every week on Monday called well calling all Depp's now this is a new backer source Q&A based show kind of in the vein of the original 10-4 series back in the day but we've streamlined it for the very precious time requirements of our developments death and this will this new format will allow us to go quicker than ever and directly to the developer most suited to answering your questions in a succinct manner well as succinct as I ever am you'll see the first episode of this new

  9. 00:06:38

show that airs on Monday and with that that's all the news I have for this week we're gonna take a quick break now and when we return we're gonna sit down with global head of production and grand pooh-bah 542 the effervescent Aaron Roberts stay tuned [Music] and we're back and joining us here on

  10. 00:08:22

our very first episode of reverse the verse live grand pooh-bah erin roberts and how you doing good that's good to be here I said travel over like get across to the states pretty regular now so probably at least five six times yeah I've seen you more in the last two months than I did in last two years helps my family lives in Austin so I used there's a good excuse to come and spend some time with my parents and also work from the austin la offices as well that's right now what most people most people know who you are in the star citizen community but we are getting new star citizens every day it's since we've had you on one of our informal streams I've checked the date we've gained something like 300,000 new citizens so there's quite a few people who may not

  11. 00:09:09

actually know who you are so let's just start off real simple tell us who you are what you do for client brain games and foundry 42 and so my responsibilities here are to run the development for the company and so basically you know everything from production and development to assigning it and organizing and prioritizing our tasks and development and worldwide so that's why I spend a lot of time between the u.s. offices and also in the German office and and the UK and I run the UK office as well but obviously I'm on the road probably about six months a year at the moment right and you are of course not only the head of global production you're also the head of funding for July you said the UK in that in the German op isn't your the name Roberts isn't a coincidence either

  12. 00:09:58

you're also Chris's brother I am yes Chris and I have worked together in the industry for well 35 probably 34 35 years on and off starting from working working in in the back room and parents place to then I guess the first first working job would have been in terms of rubbish developing at home would have been that origin systems working on times the law on the wing commander probably we played we played times the Lord we had a happy hour like Museum where we were experiments playing the games that are in star citizen's DNA going back played times dwarf the first time case was three months ago yes very different it was I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that but I

  13. 00:10:47

enjoy that I think when you get at the time when you play the games you know it's amazing but now you look how much some technologies move down and what you can doing storytelling that there are sometimes I go back to games which I loves as a child and I go wow okay yeah I imagine it's important just like when you watch an old movie it's important you kind of you have to put your brain in a time capsule you have to kind of go back to what was available then the other media and the other story that the way storytelling work then if you can really still enjoy those older things if if you can manage that not everybody can I have struggles sometimes but I do it so with our new reverse the verse here we like to do a follow-up to a TV now of course yesterday we just had a very Austin centric a TV where we focus on the entire published process of getting a TV out the door we heard a lot about

  14. 00:11:37

weird a lot from Toni about the entire process Toni and my Jones and a Namit about everything that went into those last couple weeks and especially the last couple days and very much the last couple hours to get through 102 tell us a story from your perspective what was it like in that last day or week you were in Austin you actually chose in Houston I flew to Austin on the Wednesday actually between so before that I was in the master office arrived and we were you know at the time we trying to that last week is about trying to solidify the build so you have something which you feel you can go live with and also when you know published to a larger group of people so yeah I mean it's just it's really just more about early on a you know for my level it's about you know making sure that you know have bills which are stable that you

  15. 00:12:26

know that basically we feel can be used as backup candidates for going live and so forth and then just on the more you know you're looking to basically you know because specifically if you go back a bit you know three points there was such a huge amount of work in terms of it's not just you know the people can see in terms of actually in terms of everything but beneath you know behind the scenes and there's a technology we had to build to make this to make everything work so there's a huge amount of work that was going on in the scenes so just getting the base of work before you even talk about some the gameplay features stuff you've got to get this base of tech working support the features and get the features working and so all these things have to come together and then you want to get it obviously to the community as fast as possible because you want to have all that feedback and that ability to for people to get out there to see it to you know you know specifically over the

  16. 00:13:13

Christmas period is a great period for us because in the company that's two reasons one is it's we get to and why we do this is we'd love getting a version out because then we can get we can get loads of feedback over the Christmas period you know get this little stuff like that and then we've got that for the new year when we can't generally kick off okay it's a new year this is what we do this year and secondly it's great for us because it's the only time that CI G actually shuts down as a company and so every studio shuts down between Christmas and New Year's and everybody gets some time after to route to - after like a hard hard year just to you know to regain some focus and it does mean a lot cuz even obviously people take holidays if you're on holiday and you still got 200 emails coming the day sometimes it's kind of hard so so on that side so it's a good

  17. 00:14:01

thing so we've really pushed hard to do that and and so it's all about managing the process so we know we'll have something we can go live with and so for all the things and and we it's a process that we've done before we released 2.6 the last holiday season and I believe 2.0 if I remembering back right was the holiday season before that yeah so it's kind of an established rhythm for us it is and also it's it's a hard target it's like because you basically want to get this done you want to get out there and also you want to make sure that you're we know you know and so it's a nice time if the team's go get it out enjoy your holiday and the community gets to you know to check out all the latest great stuff and so let the stroll down a little bit further into the actual published process real quick we saw a lot of that on a TV yesterday a lot of talk with AMA it's okay so we have a stable candidate QA is signed off you said yes we think

  18. 00:14:53

this candidates this candidate is good were rate we're ready to even push this line what happens at that point well so what you tend to do is you certain things happen yes you have you have a candidate you feel pretty good about it I think in the case of what actually happened was we we had one issue and so we basically we had to rebuild that one issue and so far from the testing to make sure was fine and that's why we pushed basically to PT you to everyone on the Friday and then actually went live in the Saturday because we wanted to give it a full cycle PT with a lot of people in there to make sure it's good to go live and then Saturday then we felt good about going live for that kind of stuff but during that period of time you know your you know wild QA signing off obviously the the live up guys are making sure it's all ready to go get all

  19. 00:15:42

the information you know together that we have to do and of course it's a whole community side of making sure okay we need to deliver the letters out to everybody like nobody this is all coming so for things like that sold moment so and you're typically well this builds going on you know cuz you every now and then you know the build might break and so so you sit there those last moments going well what kind of out time hopefully this build to be fine and the open in the issues that's what's going for your minds you do so I mean fortunately we just to talk about stuff we've done this year to make a massive difference for a development flow is you know that the build system it used to take us three four hours to get one build then and now because of all the great work the guys have been doing we now can knock builds out in like less than an hour and so that makes a huge difference so rather than just maybe doing one or two built a day and clogging up the whole system now we can just churn out builds and that makes a

  20. 00:16:29

massive difference to the iteration and getting stuff done and for everybody in the company as well and also because of that getting stuff out to the team I think I think that into the community sorry I think that's something that sometimes lost that we're not just making a game we're also making the way that we make that we are what we're building a company still are while building technology while building a game and so all the time we're refining our processes we're basically working hard on okay you know we will do something and we'll go with that you know that's too many steps to get we want to be so we basically then go but it's okay we need to create a pipeline or a tool chain that you know that makes it easier or well you know to get a you know for instance a character the game has to go from this person to this person this person this person and go well that's crazy so how do we get this automated to knock out as many people as possible and

  21. 00:17:16

then also to keep it so why can't just one person do most of this and then maybe under four and so forth so all the time those discussions are going on and we have you know this year we have a huge you know of road map of loads last year we've got even what is this year because the idea is we want to get much more efficient and as you know for this stuff so as we're bringing more content it involves fewer people can get more content out there you know on that sort of level now so we've got thinking we've got the candidate everybody's done done their parts a publishing is prep the the servers they've they've label they've wiped the staging environment a list like that who gives the final go mm-hm says typically on something like that but I've go I mean typically if it's you know we're just chucking out another

  22. 00:18:05

patch then that would be a call that would be left you know that okay the way the process workers as we're going through the basic have a meeting say okay we got to put another patch up tuned for the PTU I mean for the PTU yeah and that would be just basically with our meeting and typically I'd be the UK time and I'd say okay if this it's all good and this is working fine and we feel this builders going to come out to be tested in Austin because I'll be in the UK at this time then you've got my go-ahead to go ship you know and then it'll be a production call in in in in the LA Times own to go make this wouldn't really involve you know like senior people because it'd be like when it came to the live one I basically explicitly just said okay Kristen's gonna make that call I remember because I had made an

  23. 00:18:54

unfortunate agreement with the community not to shave until until 3.0 was out so I was in a bathroom here with my laptop rages why the sky I'm watching like that it's almost like a shuttle launch you know it's like Capcom check you know everybody's checking in their research and I'm just like like Chris sago sago and and and you know in a team chat in the launch tab there's like there's there's like a hundred people in this chat I'm like everybody's rate goes all right just need to final work on Chris and Chris goes maybe we should wait another 30 minutes so Jared doesn't happen so jess has a shave and I was like and then he it was not any think Christopher mercy on me I push the patch up but no it was it was it was a good moment I have I've been here for a veneer for a number of these larger patches and this this one definitely felt a little different this one felt

  24. 00:19:44

like the accumulation of all it is it's it was really one of those where you know we've been working for a long time there's so much going on under the hood that it was really important that we we got it out there you know because now having out there and having information from that then we now have a great roadmap of all the stuff we want to do going forward not only just in terms of features and content but in terms of all the work we need to do on the optimization and the list of things because we have this feedback because you don't get a lot of stuff well I mean just kind of going off question here but but a lot of the a lot of the stuff that happened when we when we went live over Christmas we hadn't seen really in there before that even though we actually were whatever Cathy you know we were on a PC and so forth of that but once people got

  25. 00:20:32

in started doing stuff in certain ways and playing stuff and things like that then actually these issues came up now fortunately for some of the worst ones we have because we have our back uncertain our back end side we can actually make changes on the server side make the interdiction exactly all that kind of stuff to fix those issues without have to do a new build and so that's why we that's great for us yeah okay that was an issue but we can fix that because you doing the new build is as is a big process it requires people to go in you have to do a new build you've got a testing like this stuff but on the backhand side we can just tweak parameters and so forth or change or turn things on and off and so forth so so that helps a lot but it is really just like that you know that's it's it's a big deal for that stuff additionally in yesterday's atv there was a little bit of talk about the cutting of features from 3.0 to move to

  26. 00:21:21

3.1 or possibly 3.2 what can you tell us about that process were there things that we wanted to put in 3.0 but we had to push the three one to get Fida so mostly we didn't get it as much in other features with of light so that's most of them so you know in terms of you know you know let's say some of you know typically we know we felt like you know there's one or two more sort of steps we could have taken but the problem what you do is you have to get to a super tan and and this ties into which we can talk about a little bit is what we want to do next you know this year but I mean but yeah but but it's like the the big deal is that you need to get in a situation where you know the you are basically you know if we are going to post erious

  27. 00:22:12

about of getting 3.0 out then you've got to make certain calls and so there's some stuff there and the only feature which I you know I can think of there's probably one team or but just on top of the head right now is character customizers one would have light to put in we didn't make and obviously we're working hard on that now and there was one or two other things like the we made a big call at the end there's been a lot of working gone on to the damage system to make it a lot better and it was ready and but it became really literally two days before we were going to share and we just made a call so this is you know putting that in right now is gonna be just a bit silly so let's do that kind of stuff let's put it in after Christmas and and then have time with from you know 3.1 to basically make sure that there's a whole new system so the ships you know damage blow up better all that

  28. 00:23:00

kind of stuff of things else we get a elevator alright so there's a good time to remind everybody that we are taking questions from the chat you can post your questions and either the twitch chat or the spectrum chat spectrum is of course our custom communications platform available on Roberts based industries calm we've got a couple questions coming in already Aaron it's been stated that we're gonna have four big patches throughout the year quarterly patches how are we going to make sure that we make those so we are very much okay so I'd go back to last year last year we had a we had a huge talked about it the massive amount of technical work as well as feature work to get three points around and that was just something we had to do to get us where we are we couldn't it was very hard to a lot of that work was about getting you know the

  29. 00:23:49

basics of occasion yes for that kind of stuff and so yes we you know we you know we wanted to get out a lot earlier there was a lot of work we didn't and and one thing that we want to do regularly because it's important to us just as much I'm sure it's plenty to have regular updates is because we want that feedback we want to get versions out there that's how we that's how we you know we basically get that iteration and stuff and iterating is really important in game development whether you know whether we're doing it with the community which is awesome that we do it with we have all the help or even internally that you've never seen use them grain project there's a huge amount of iteration we do something they do until test groups they give you feedback they like kind of stuff makes so what would so last year doing all this work was a big deal so and so what we talked about is as soon as we get free points to Rio we want to change to a complete

  30. 00:24:36

different model and the model is going to be date driven not feature driven and so this means yes we have a number of features bug fixes polish whatever you call it we want to do for a certain time line and we set it up and that's what the team works towards we give ourselves a period of actual development on that you know on feature work and so on especially the feature side and that that development is going to run typically to about 50 to 60 percent of the available time and once we get to that level hopefully and it won't happen every time just so people in you guys know but you know we're going to work very hard that is is the vast majority of the features the stuff we want to put in is worked at that time then we go to a completely then the team that moves is a completely separate model which is it

  31. 00:25:23

goes from feature development to close down bug fixing you know polish in terms of like you know kind of minor bugs not going summer so forth sort of levels so what we do is we get to this point and we go okay which features are done great all those are in 3.1 any features which have not made it we go okay you are now going to be in three points you're gonna be the next patch and we're just now gonna take everything that's done now we're gonna polish it we're gonna optimize it Linda if we need to do all this kind of stuff to make it much better and then we release you know in our date time and that's how you can do it and it's very it should be very doable and predictable on that sort of way because what kills you is when you turn around say I have really want that feature in and then you go okay well you know yeah it hasn't quite made it but if we just another two weeks not make it so well the other day well polish here we'll do this but we're gonna keep this

  32. 00:26:11

feature going and hopefully make and the problem is as you're developing that feature you're creating more bugs and more issues that the people are typically doing the feature work on the same guys you want fixing bugs and doing that kind of stuff and so forth so it creates this perpetual cycle of things slipping and so we're gonna be very hardcore I'm gonna say did it make it did not make it no don't close down move on and that's why we do it and so you're still gonna see the same features but it may be that sometimes they slip two three months later but the beautiful thing about this means that as a development team we get great progress of getting of building it and also we keep stability because because we're on a cycle of making sure we have to keep gave down and gamedev stable because we need to have to use it to go and keep on going out and going and publishing live to the community and also in it's a community then gets regular updates and if you're in ever Cathy or are the first

  33. 00:26:58

waves of PT you you're actually seeing that build then actually if so you're only probably going to go from it from a live release probably six to seven to eight weeks before you see the next build so hopefully that also means that but it but it does mean but it does mean that then you get that people have seen you stuff come online to get the kind of stuff the delivery of that this team is not slot quicker rather which go okay we're gonna go away from here now this massive feature set and then people going okay well got enough to do for you now and so we really want to have that and it's it's not just I think you need really cool for the from you guys in community but also like certainly for the dev team it's a massive morale boost when we're getting stuff out there and people are playing it and they're given the feedback you know yeah you know good and bad I mean you know but it's just really good to have this to father and see that kind of stuff so does this change to release based as

  34. 00:27:48

for its sports feature base make it harder to dict what features will be in each patch because there's the things that we're gonna shoot for it makes it makes it it makes it okay so we're also putting a lot of time and effort into making our predictions better what we're doing one of the reasons one of the ways we're doing that is by not trying to do so much in one go I mean nothing wrong we're not like and I cut back to like stuff but we've been very sensible about making sure that you know resources and the company are focused on one thing and not split between lots of different things and so for that you know so you know so I think we're gonna be a lot more predictable about what you'll see and what will other times will be in the patches but like I said yes one or two things may slip one or two things may not be quite good one and maybe even two next one but the point is it'll be an ever improving cycle and I think you know this new system will mean

  35. 00:28:35

that you know that the predictability and also you know basically delivery of content to the communities in the speedup nature so with that what's in three point one so three point one is we're very much focusing and this is a lot to do with firm thing we've got three points here I want to get out there I've got the feedback three points it so three point one is all about a big drive to solidify all that stuff as well it's one or two new new features we're gonna push for but mostly it's about biggest one and we're focusing on it already em do the big thing is performance so you know getting all of the 3.0 stuff of all the different bases all the kind of stuff I'm just getting the features working is a massive deal and now we're taking and what we're doing is now we've got some of our more senior guys really taking the time out to basically now go in and do these huge

  36. 00:29:24

optimization process so we're basically no we we know where we need to optimize there's a lot of stuff which is stuff we just you know when you're doing the feature creation side you you know you then that's folks folks people the authorization so that's a big one so the plan for three point one is that it should be much faster than 3.0 is and so should be in that something experience to be much better experience or the community you know so and I write you know we have our goals for what that's going to be you know hopefully a tough render our goal you know everyone be happy but the point is that the experience when it comes out will be a lot better because there's a lot of things we do on the network side um you know on the rendering side and also on the gameplay side for the way we do stuff in terms of like you know in multi friends a lot of different things we know we can do there's a lot of code we know he is is basically redundant and needs to be changed and fixed or thrown away and and read and so

  37. 00:30:12

forth so that's all what's going on that's one of the big things we're also doing you know we're also going to be doing polishing you up a lot of the UI in terms of making the UI instead of better and things like that because that's the big important part so so the readability so you can use the hoods and like a lot better that's stuff going on we have a bunch of work will be doing on combat and on space UI as well we're gonna have a bunch of work on the economy because right now there's a lot of exploits the stuffs we're gonna do work more than Clinton and so making that kind of stuff better I mean I'm just about there's a lot of things we are doing for now is committed stone you can and we want to obviously interdiction we want to bounce better and do stuff and then one thing one of the features we do really want to get in and hopefully we get this in is the is it's basically it's the ability for a

  38. 00:31:04

player because now we have interdiction and now we have people so let's say you're on a planet or you get interdicted you're in space or someone attacks you wherever you want so forth it's what we call it was called the service beacon and then basically it's the ability it'll be we just want to get the first level of it which is basically ability for a player to go to certainly basically communicate to anyone else who's near them or in the system I can get to them this is where I am and you know if they're under attack help me I'm going to attack and they can send basically another point for people to go to to help them and so that could be whether you you crash on a planet and you've got no way off and you can say hey I'm here and the planet come and someone pick me up and save me or I'm being attacked by pirates please come and help me or whatever and so forth and it'll be the first element of it now this whole system will build into your Tony's talked about it the whole your ability to actually then four players to

  39. 00:31:52

make missions for each other because then you'll go hey um if you I'm here I'll pay you 500 euros to pick me up via Rosa I'll pay you 500 you know UEC to pick you up and on whatever it is you know don't quote me on prices I'm just throwing them out there and it's not that but that's the idea and so for from that level so in addition to taking the questions live from chat we did throw up a a thread on spectrum we collected questions for the last day when and folks were able to vote on them and so so one person could submit a question then other people could vote and say yeah that's the one I want asked when I our number one top voted question mm-hm it's about space combat in a space can we have some information on what to expect for space combat improvements okay so yes we'll be improving it we are we because we made we've made

  40. 00:32:43

adjustments about how rusty's and work and so forth I think that's made we so a while back we basically purposely slowed back we slowed combat down to combat sort cop combat speeds because we wanted a more visceral experience when you're in combat you for you yeah we don't want you just fighting with pixels cuz it's you know it's not that's fun we want you and we want the AI to act intelligent so forth so we'll be putting a lot of work into making sure that yes we want the ability for a player that if they're just cruising onto a planet and it's like boring because they've got like you know kilometers of kilometers to go then on the straight line they can use afterburners they can get down there faster see not you know so that's that stuff but but I think when you're not in a straight line we don't have to make some adjustments so and also the way the AI actually flies and what they do and so forth to make that experience against the AI you know a lot more interesting

  41. 00:33:32

which means that we work on the you know the physics system obviously there'll be more work on combat over planets as well because we're going to be improving the young it's very fly and so forth as well in terms of that but yes then making the flight AI better is obviously it's something which I you know those the games I've worked on and that's it for now take a great personal interest in its making sure that experience is better now you know and so there will be improvements for three point one absolutely but this is a process which will keep on going to you know don't you I we plan on making it better and better and better and better so you know think of this as a first step and then and then the next vision comes out will be better again the team is gonna stop working on it so this team is gonna keep on working on their to make it better and better so so you see this as improvement through the year you know where things just get better and better

  42. 00:34:19

long because the team is still there we have we have a flight AI team and there's go you keep on doing and we have a Felix guys nobody the same thing all the way through and the idea is and then the great thing is as we go out we see how people are playing and you know I'm sure you know we've mentioned this before to the community but we are developers spend a lot of time looking at the videos that are made by the community they don't it's not you know it really is it's a very collaborative experience enough so even if you might you know if you know you know you might throw some questions in the back of stuff but actually the stuff you're playing and showing when you're where you're flying stuff that's the stuff or design there's our program and stuff they'll download they'll look at they'll go and stuff and then there and it's amazing because they'll still go ok that's not how it's not going to work and so forth of things and so this stuff is really good info for us not just unlike if it's entered for a bug in the system it's like

  43. 00:35:06

literally we go to youtube and just watch what's going on and just Alice and that's brilliant you know we we have that with the community there's no other businesses do not have that that's almost like we can you know make that you know this game with that sort of way and with that support just make a massive difference and of course a ship combat is not just a system that helps start citizen it's obviously a system that's going to be very important for squadron 42 like well I mean likewise I mean you know we're not throw too many promises out but we're not that far off from getting FPS AI into the PU as well and to really make missions more interesting I'm not promising this for free per one but the thing is is like you know we have you know when we have that when you're at the planet you do several things like that then you've actually of a sudden

  44. 00:35:53

there's a bit of danger you go down you can do a mission is this all way to attack me so stuff going softshell attractions Matt and so likewise that we're making these changes here the squadron guys are also all very much focusing on the FPS side as soon as that's in the the state that we believe is good enough for a tier zero information implementation into the PE we'll put that in using a lot that word that got from the FPS team as well now of course we part of a new ATV format we talked a little bit instead he talked a little bit about it in the hosting yesterday we will be doing features on squadron 42 from now on through the rest of the year so most squadron 42 questions will probably save for the reverse the verses that follow up those squadron 42 s we do have one squadron 42 question here from the fans I do want to ask you how does it feel to finally be

  45. 00:36:40

able to show off for them for you it's good it's a good feeling you know if it's a lot of work and it's like so we have I mean we it's a shared code base so so it's like you know when the squadron started in the basically the same game we're honestly we're doing as a single you know version of it but and so basically you have to get a lot of the stuff but the thing with squadron it's all about the storytelling and that sort of very in-depth feel so a lot of time had to go in into getting the you know that did that you know the characters the shades and stuff so you want to really make give it a beautiful cinematic feel and so forth and then got to show and then actually now start to show off how these big structures I mean like the Shubin station you see is like I think it's like um it's like 12 kilometers long it's like you know and that kind of stuff you can see it you

  46. 00:37:27

can see how big the addresses and you can see how big the interest is compared to and so forth or things like that so it's that's the level was like things the TV turned the TV about right there [Laughter] I was talking to not to name-drop here but sam witwer he's a he's an actor he's done a bunch of video games he did the Force Unleashed she was the main character he's working on a game called days gone which has like five which has a whole bunch of hours of Cinemax and he was he was telling me that because you saw the holiday special it's it was I remember watching it when we were broadcasting and just playing I couldn't believe the can seen it all together and once again I mean you know just externally but internally for the team

  47. 00:38:15

you know it's like great to actually be able to show it after all the times we're doing stuff and things like that and go it together and and and also it's once again it's a great it's a great you know best case of you know what's good okay because a lot of the work is making the tools work the way they need to do when you put it together cinematics it's a huge amount of work behind the scenes about okay well you know yeah we can get this working but that took like that's way too long we've got to get this down to you know taking half a day not like a week to do sort of stuff and so all these conversations happening in all the areas but a beauty is room squadrons when we have all that sort of tech as well then you know you we can start thinking about putting some of these sort of story stuff into the PE as well at some point as well so going back pivoting back to star citizen remember we'll have a place first start for squadron 42 questions on the reverse the verses that follow the squadron 42 a TV specials but one of the most common questions we're seeing

  48. 00:39:03

haven't seen for a while the Delta Patrick the backers have been waiting for the Delta patcher for a long time the Delta patcher you know is what's gonna prevent people from having to download every asset of the game every single time but now that we have the Delta patcher we've announced we're only doing four patches a year is that it is just just is it for big content batches but will there be smaller okay so that so it says the dope pressure site anyway because okay if you just wait for a live patch yes then it's probably like okay because quite a bit will change between builds so for that but if you're actually you know like a lot of vacati or people go into the PTU side when you're downloading a new patch every every day it makes a massive difference you know and so forth and things and so

  49. 00:39:51

I guess if you only downloaded it four times a year then it's probably not such a big deal but it is I tell you the change was a massive deal in terms of for a lot of for a lot of people doing that kind of stuff but just because we're doing four large patches this is a plan it doesn't mean we won't maybe do like you know in a smaller patch if we need to for a reason and hopefully you know we plan to get the practice in in the state but it may be you know we might want to patch because one introduced some new ships or something or or whatever it is so what we're saying is look we're planting we've given you you know a quarterly patch these will be nice big big yeah trigger changes that literally they'll be you know get in there and do the stuff but then it doesn't mean we're not gonna just say well actually we might do a hotfix or something or you know what actually we've got some cool new content

  50. 00:40:38

we can put in which actually the gameplay system dissolves won't change is just adding some content or something that kind of level because adding a ship we keep in the same branch but every time we do and this is one of the discussions I think when we went out and I was talking about the reason why I was important to get 3.0 out last year is because we've been the 3.0 branch for a long time but our main Dave Allen branch is is actually game day for game day and so the longer you're out of 3.0 you can get stuff working you can't go back to game dev now all the new optimization work all the stuff things all the new tool all the stuff you trauma do you know all the new content is sitting in game dev and so if you just stay on 3.0 all the time then you can't get out and so I know there's a question of like you know say you know you know and so we needed to get 3.0 out get the feedback from that so we can go back to game dev take

  51. 00:41:27

all the information from there so then we could and then once we go back the game there then the next step is we take all these changes the fixes and then we go back to the 3.1 branch which we'll do sometime in February and Bay and that will be the and that's what we've taken on the goodness put it back in there and then once again games ever been working on saying while we then we then we just polish up that we polish and bug fix to get free point one out well the work continues in game dev the other stuff back to that spectrum fair didn't work or weren't we're almost done but back to the spectrum to the second most voted question this had like 150 votes in 3.0 there's no blind quantum jumps people can't just point their ship at a star in just quantum jump they can only navigate to the orbital

  52. 00:42:14

markers is that a temporary decision is that or or will the return of blind jumps being star services future that's a we haven't finished I mean we basically plan to we're still working on the star map and how all that system works and that's also one of the things which is great to get the feedback and what we do so for the thing about blind jumps is obviously fuel so I guess could do a blind jump but you'd have to then decide to bring yourself out of a random location or just will not fuel but yet I mean I don't have a you know like I said for me personally I think that'd be perfectly fine to do it was not technically it's not a huge challenge it's just more about you know whether you want to let players do that kind of stuff and I can see however I guess is a player you might just want to do a blind jump because you want to get away from

  53. 00:43:02

someone and just you know Battlestar Galactica style you just jump away and hope the Cylons don't find you but I mean also for folks to potentially discover a new jump point yes you can go and explore and so for things like that and also like I said we want to bring the ability for players to create navbar cos for the players as well so they can go there and say okay come here this way I'm this location and that kind of stuff it's important let's see what else do we got before we let you go here I'm here Aaron did you ever think star citizen was going to be as huge as it is now yeah when I joined yeah it was you know 13 yeah yeah it was basically you know we you know you know

  54. 00:43:51

Chris came on board and stuff it was very much a you know we would have some plans and obviously things have definitely grown way out of my expectations you know for stuff so I would say that you know in terms of getting star citizen to where it is now I my guess is it would have been a lot of the stuff would have been probably different in terms of I mean that's one of things I'm sure you know Chris has talked about before as well as you know you know a seamless transition to planets and began to wander around planets and that was never part of the original plan but it was but because of the advantages of having such great support and these things and working with such talented people is now all of a sudden we have this amazing procedure planets and now you can actually seamlessly go down and land whereas in the old days you just basically they're like you know landing on a ship would have been probably a land and there be

  55. 00:44:39

more sort of you know the original four posters be more sort of Wing Commander s but now now you get to go there and walk around and do stuff and go to different rooms and all that kind of stuff so definitely building this level of immersion which I think it's what I hope you know you know people want we have so much supports because we just want to build wants to you know so give the world a second life you know I'm just like you go in there you have you have your ability to just go in and lose yourself in this universe and do these incredible things that you can't do in real life and actually it just is that municipality of you know way of having that you know that once we try and do is just build that realism into it you know if you look at everything we do you know we want it to look right and feel feel right and like an arrival of stuff and you know and gain the tech and work with that customer source to happen and you know and I wouldn't have been interested in joining if we were just

  56. 00:45:29

trying to do you know an also-ran game we're here trying to make something which is you know and now is you know now we're getting a lot of stuff in place you can really start seeing it it's something that just no one else has done before and no one will be given the opportunity to do before is to create something that's amazing I would be remiss if I didn't ask this question this question comes up in almost every single Q&A and we rarely have anybody that's at a high enough level to to ask it so it was also the third most highly but it's coming up in chat it's coming up in the thread what can you tell us if anything on the progress of the female character model the playable well yeah I mean the best stuff still still plants still happen I mean I'm not I mean you

  57. 00:46:19

know in terms of where the character is at the moment of so four things but the it's you're gonna be able to customize your characters don't forget so so that so so your player will be who you want your player to look like so but that's all absolutely plan that we you know we plan to have male and female and what kind of different things well that's about it that's all we have time for okay we're gonna take a break we're gonna be right back with our wrap-up everybody know thanks very much guys every time we do its work we take you to the front door working concert here we're going into the back we are here

  58. 00:47:10

super early in the morning is there a party one here because we are working on preparing our very first episode of the new rivers diverse let's go see the reason we're here so early so we spent most of yesterday reconstructing what used to be known as the fan cave sale as you can see by very diligently put a label on tools is that was done yes there was carpentry no most of what I've got to do today besides being clean up

  59. 00:48:00

the work this wall now if you remember the fan cave from our 2016 shows this wall is almost entirely backer artless here's a good example of one right here this is a canvas print there's no glass there's no frame they're very lightweight if you're an org that that is a reasonable size and you want to you want to be displayed here on the wall you can feel free to send a canvas absolutely no bigger than 20 by 30 I strongly recommend something in the 12 by 16 range that way we can get more if I can get two words on here instead of one org that's probably what I'm gonna do and now it's time for a meeting before any other honest but I have to go into a meeting for a

  60. 00:48:48

concept shift now I basically get to pitch looks like there's still a meeting in there going on so we have to wait a couple of minutes we'll go into the meeting talk about concept ship you know how we're gonna pitch it and talk with the designers and meet and yeah marking stuff that's what's next there's Scott again so we're out of that meeting I have got to go and talk to Justin justin is the editor for a TV part of what I've had to do well in the hotel here hey Justin oh my gosh you have a camera and I'm not even I'm not ready seriously I pulled a bunch of b-roll for you for me TV it's in a folder you know where it is but it's there I'm still pulling more I would be remiss if I didn't point these out this is Justin's

  61. 00:49:37

collection of Christmas cards the highlight of my holiday season I can tell you is every year when I come into the office and I see a new Justin chambers of original holiday card all right so I've got a few minutes I'll just check in with some of my favorite people who work here and see what they're working on so we're gonna talk to Ellen here hey hey doing it what's wrong with your voice oh I feel like an ass what are you working on because I've been working the engines geometry all the engines are almost done I'll let you go back to being sick

  62. 00:50:26

I'm an I'm an ass for bothering every sick look there's my injury that's one of the many dogs that roam around our office oh yeah the process of moving up our control station for editors who are building everything out there's community manager trying to no one we're setting this up now this is where we would control verse the verse each and every week this back is backstage you see it's back there so coming back right here so you see me in front there Tyler's this will be his first show okay so I just left that meeting that was another meeting about

  63. 00:51:16
