hi everybody welcome to another episode of calling all Deb's a weekly Q&A series right take questions from you I'm still here how many of these things that I pre record I mean I should just do that I should just do this episode from Europe all right hold on well just we'll just pick this out from there all right hi everybody I'm it I'm in Germany now through the magic of TV hmm Alison and Justin put a TV magic thinking down in my terrible terrible TV magic joke aside welcome to another

  2. 00:01:00

edition of calling all Deb's our weekly Q&A series where I take questions from you the star citizen backer impose them directly to our developers usually over Skype and usually from LA but not this week we're in Frankfurt so in order to start us off with our new our first episode of calling all devs in Frankfurt and not LA we are starting off by calling Dave haddock in LA because I am a master of logistics Dave how you doing man hey good how are you good I came all the way to Frankfurt to call you now Dave you are you are the this this is your first you've been on calling adepts once before I think I was on the pilot you weren't you on the pilot you're on apply it so yeah is it your first time back for anybody for anybody not familiar Dave you're you are the you're the lead writer the head

  3. 00:01:46

writer the super writer the main writer I don't know what your title is now for director of narrative for star citizen and squadron 42 see I eventually get that right yes okay cool skirt so we have a question this is one of the most common questions we've actually addressed it on calling all devs before with Luke Presley but part of this process is we give backers the ability to submit their questions and vote on which questions so even if we've answered it before if you guys are voting it back up that means there's enough of you out there that that either didn't see the answer our hoping the answer is different so we're gonna give this a try we went to Luke press the last time now we're going to date we'll see if we can get some different information Dave your question simply put we've got enough lead up here test Bannister

  4. 00:02:32

what gives give tests whoo yes Tessa yeah we've talked with Luke a bunch of better we know that there's there's a lot of love out there and you know a really exciting cartography community among our pilots which is outstanding yeah we've definitely been talking about Tessa and and and got some some plans for her that we sort of have some initial challenges that we have to do because the initial line set that we recorded for her that everyone is used to is was just recorded in a vo booth we basically had like sort of a long session where we got a bunch of those sort of like the

  5. 00:03:21

pirate lines and sort of Crusader security lines and we got Tessa in that batch so currently it's a just voice only so we have no kind of facial data animation data anything like that so whatever the sort of plans are that we have for the one hurdle that we have to address is the fact of like well what do we do with those original lines do we record them do we have the actress lip-sync to the lines stuff like that so there's there's some weird kind of technical stuff that we have to kind of address before we can really go one way the autre on on miss miss Bannister alright rope but you're open to the idea of bringing his best banister back almost definitely she's fantastic

  6. 00:04:08

and yeah we'd love that everyone thinks so too so so yeah we're definitely definitely wanna bring her back did it surprise you that that that she's taken off the way that she has uh I had sort of I'd hoped that she would be popular so like it's nice that other people kind of kind of found and and once you heard the actual line readings like the actress was so fantastic that like that it's just a she she nailed all the jokes she she got the human where she really kind of like tapped into the character really quickly so it was like you know because there's always that thing was like something on the page can be one thing and then you know as as it sort of continues through like a performance and stuff like that you can

  7. 00:04:54

go oh actually that line kind of never not hitting the way I thought it was and it's not sounding right and stuff and so you workshop it and stuff but she was kind of turnkey like you know she keyed into that type of humor very very easily she sold it really well she's yeah it's really good so ya know we're very very excited that people like her as much as we do I'm gonna ask you a follow-up question the the disembodied voice in the darkness is a sci-fi trope that's that's been used quite often yeah I think of easy examples in in Star Trek and I think there was one in bow star Galactica and one just you just you you're you're talking to the disembodied voice and but you never get to see them or hear them is that a consideration when if you're gonna bring your back you're gonna do performance capture

  8. 00:05:42

do you think we might lose something if we bring her back and give her a full performance I don't know I mean you know because the thing is we're we're you know working on video comms so if we're starting to have video comes between communication chatter you have to sort of address a question of like if you're not seeing her then it becomes a question and if our system is that if you're communicating a calm to somebody you see a picture-in-picture think of them you know then to you know to keep her alive so to speak you know she has to be brought up to that spec so that's so yeah I mean theoretically it's you know that would be part of it but will it lose any quality to that sort of ethereal quality to her that she's just

  9. 00:06:32

sort of the voice and voice in space oh I don't think so I mean it thinks you know it'll be again you know her performance was so good that like I feel like when you see her it's gonna add a whole other dimension to to the character that'll be equally fun so I'm optimistic that's it it's all I got and I vote again I'm gonna compliment you as I did in the pilot episode on your French moiré camera filter what did you call it and I wasn't frenched it was it was it's part kind of German expressionistic film noir I mean obviously Jeremy Expressionism has a heavy influence in film noir particularly with the cinematography is I gotta go Dave thanks up next we are moving to a foundry 42

  10. 00:07:23

Manchester or one slow as the case may be and our very own vehicle pipeline director mr. John crew we've got two questions for it Oh audio related interesting enough hey John I'm actually I got a question for ya it's an interesting one it's come up occasionally I'm just gonna get into it here to help us defend our ships if we're about to be attacked or ganked while we're away from the pilot seat this I guess he's assuming a multi cruise ship he's in the back in the kitchen or the engine room repairing stuff would it be possible to set an audible alarm if our ships that notifies us if another ship flies within a certain range of our ship and it's picked up in the radar you that's the word ship is usually found a lot that's its but basically if I'm not in this if I'm not in the pilot's seat I'm not looking out the front window if I'm not

  11. 00:08:10

there with my read out yes is there some kind of alarm that we can set so that I know if we're being approached while I'm down in the belly of the beast is it hurt yes that's something we want to do as you say if you're in the piracy you get that alarm already and they'll just by pure chance was talking to some of the the audio guys the other day because they were complaining about how they couldn't hear their alarms it's because it moved from being a 2d sound to a 3d sound so is actually playing out of the seat so instead of it just being piped into your ears it was playing out of the base of the seat so it was getting quite quiet because it was coming off it essentially just need to expand that so it plays out of multiple points in your ship you have that feedback from the ship computer to go contact detected and by the way you run the ship and then it scanner it's going to tell you that's what more probably won't to stop telling

  12. 00:08:58

you things maybe some way to link that into our mobi glass yeah so that is so just so of events they get piped around I know one of the things we show gates before very early on in one of the early prototypes that KX was working on year to go with the caterpillar was it was a series of like render to texture screens throughout the ship that could display status reports from different areas of the ship something we want to put on essentially a security MFT that allows you to control all the doors lock the doors open the doors event the atmosphere refill the atmosphere turn off the gravity turn on the gravity to set alarms oh that's all going to go on the big MFT that the security officer or nominated person can control from their

  13. 00:09:48

station I'm glad you mentioned vent the atmosphere because that's actually the next question at questions similar styling submitted by a different backer voted on by the community will our ships have the ability to sound alarms before a room like the cargo bay is depressurized we actually just discussed that a bit at the Town Hall last last week if you guys haven't checked that out that's available now on YouTube about the Crusader a mercury star burner you know it when when you you depressurize your cargo bay and flood everything out into space could there be some kind of audible alarm so it just doesn't happen I think the most probably one of the most famous examples is you know an aliens you know but the doors are being opened venting yeah definitely

  14. 00:10:39

we've sort of got very basic depressurization in-game at the moment with the room system and our doors so as people probably noticed if you're in like the Star Ferry and you keep opening closing that back door just the air runs out and it doesn't refill at the moment which is something you need to fix yes we need to ensure that there is a alarm of some kind before big events like that happen and unless it's specifically turned off right there's going to be people that want to surprise people by doing it like for normal everyday use just everything it's going to give alarmist if you want to turn off the alarms and then to yourself so repel boarders you don't want to let them know what's going on but again that will come back to that security MFT

  15. 00:11:26

alarms off in this room open the doors all right so when are we getting the security MFD good question well keep an eye on the RSS for the chrome app oh yes where there are features like that will get added when we have a better idea a better understanding of when they might be available or play your consumption all right done that's it I'll let you go I I'll see you in the office next week cool I'll see you then I mean thank you but all right thank you so much Jon crew and now last but certainly not least since we're in Frankfurt we cannot come to to Germany without talking to our very own director of stars is in life mr. Todd happy thought how you doing man good shirt how are you I'm doing well I'm in Frankfurt I know welcome where you at I am I think my big head is you

  16. 00:12:17

are back here you're all the way back there why are you back there and I'm it's the back of the bus buddy it's well I'm gonna join you hold on Oh this is recording alright this is going and I just careful not to push a button or go see God here this nope but this isn't this isn't hi he's wondering what I'm doing this is like this the wrong I'll come back this one yogi hey you know you're on the show this week right something that soon hey doing good how are you doing I'm doing well I'm here in person well it's good to have you now technically when the people see this

  17. 00:13:05

this will air after our our TV but we're recording this before our TV sisters yes well this was the second thing people see this was actually the first thing that we're done Hollywood yes time magic I got a question for you it's submitted by the backers as voted by the backers it's a big one we get asked this quite a lot once the stanton system is done what's next what's what's our first jump point do we do what have we decided that yet it's still too early do we have thoughts we do have thoughts so nothing no it's something we've talked about internally obviously we have Tara pyro Magnus and in the kind of other caveat is that we do have NYX because we have love ski already built right and so we have that major landing zone that eventually will be moved out of the stand system so for us it's just looking at what what can we do fairly

  18. 00:13:55

quickly what will basically allow us to still continue to build our tech and move forward on features but still deliver another solar system to you so now those are just the systems that are connected to stanton by star map correct doesn't exclude the possibility that we might decide to start with another dude maybe just connect our own just like he did exactly exactly NYX I mean NIC's isn't connected technically you know but it's something that's if push came to shove if CR said yeah let's do it then that's what we're gonna do so we haven't decided yet so sorry for anybody I wanted a definitive answer we know what Tara gets as Tara is the center of the you EE I don't think you just

  19. 00:14:41

explain the value of Tara what is what is pyro get us well I mean basically Pyro's pirate land I mean in in reality like most of that stuff has been stripped mined out there and and it's pretty void but that's also where the dying star map from infirmary for marina commander is and then with Magnus what that gets us is Drake's homeland or trachs headquarters and then also three planets there as well so I imagine pirates probably pretty attracted because it doesn't have any landing zones it has no major landing zone so I yeah greg madduxês so i mean from a system standpoint i think we chose one of the hardest ones to start with with four major landing zones we did but we have one their hardest but

  20. 00:15:31

it's debtless Denton is also that thing that gets us like everything like when is done we've got almost everything that you need in the star system yeah we won't have liquid hot magma but which is needed for pyro I believe so we'll be missing some things from a biome standpoint but we will have the majority of things so basically if I'm hearing you're right we don't know no but again we've we have talked about it Tony and Chris and I've we've discussed it Ian's been involved you know so it's it's definitely on our radar and right now we were focused on getting lower bill out and we know what we need to do with air 18 and then it's basically moving on to

  21. 00:16:20

micro tech and so new babitch and a rise and and then from yes yeah so it's getting gas giant and all of those those wonderful things and but as soon as we really start moving on that's when we're going to be looking at the next system oh alright so I imagine I'll be back with another with this same question sometime in the next three six months yeah exactly I'm not even gonna touch that I tied thank you so much we'll do the hand hover too well that about does it for this week's

  22. 00:17:15
