[Music] go hello welcome to another edition of L makers Guide to the Galaxy uh if you are unfamiliar with this segment this is basically we take some time with uh a member of the lore team to to dig into some of the the systems that you see on the starm map and ultimately we'll be able to play and visit and have it in the Star Citizen Universe um and so uh we'll just get started so today um we are actually going to start with kind of

  2. 00:01:05

a smaller system but sort of a personal favorite of mine because will took aium which uh I love the tvar and and so I'm a little upset about that anyway uh so we're actually going to do uh Fen system um now there if you remember some of the uh if you are subscribers uh you saw a jump Point Galactic guide that that sort of highlighted faen system uh gave you a bit of an idea so we we'll go into the sort of overall sense of the systems or the planets themselves and a little bit into the sort of the backstory and kind of what's fun about them but they're they're they're kind of a sneaky one because I I really like them just CU visually it's a very feels like it's a very rich world uh but okay so let's Jump Right In so this is not Fen system that we're looking at now this is a planet called Earth which I'm sure we'll get into at some point uh and talk about

  3. 00:01:54

uh I don't know what happens there off the top of my head uh so we'll go fairen system and bookmark so uh Fen system actually you know what actually let us before we dive in let's actually go a little bit more macro so we're going to zoom out here um so you can see it's sort of proximity to saw uh system here so Earth there faen here uh let's turn on jumps so you can see it's very close so it's you know U croshaw which famously was the first system that U that uh Nick croshaw discovered which led to this idea that oh wow we can actually we don't need to you know physically burn our way towards these other star systems

  4. 00:02:42

we actually have these sort of these tunnels that we can use to to get there uh which completely obviously revolutionized kind of thinking as far as Astro travel so um basically the idea was once once that that happened and and people started to realize that that that this this happened once so it's a good possibility that it could happen again it it sort of created this new culture of uh uh nav jumpers explorers and and and sort of inflame this sort of notion of like we need to kind of start reexamining our galaxy and and and with this new understanding and see what we can find out so uh in the year 2460 uh basically a Fen system was discovered out of coming out of coch

  5. 00:03:30

uh right there and uh so the funny thing about the way it was discovered was discovered by a guy Nam P LT who was part of a uh Saul Astro exploration society and it was sort of a if you think of those sort of classic um you know if you read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Alan quarter you know Explorer type things these sort of gentlemen that would you know uh go out and be exploring the Galaxy and stuff like that that was sort of the the impetus the idea behind them uh so was in Char he was Captain of a ship who was out looking for uh potentially new Jump points and so uh they were sort of at the end of their tether they were about to run out of supplies and stuff like that and basically one of his crew named Darcy faren ended up discovering that there was a weird anomaly with their gas basically like their their their fuel

  6. 00:04:18

was was not adding up and through exploration they ended up discovering that it was basically kind of getting drained and so they they started scanning and they ended up discovering that it was actually a jump point that was sort of causing this sort of weird um fuel anomy anomaly uh and that's what end up leading to the discovery of fen system and so as sort of uh compensation which uh for for discovering this you know he decided to name the system after uh Darcy so and then of course being part of the the Sol asro exploration Society uh it was all for the benefit of Humanity's advancement stuff like that so they they donated the system basically to the at the time it was the UN United Nations of Earth and uh for basically expansion into so Fen system

  7. 00:05:06

was then born so uh one of the things we always sort of discover when we when we kind of work this stuff out is is when a system is discovered basically there's a period where the reigning government which in this case was this would be the U un uh would sort of analyze and assess the system and so they would they would take time before kind of opening up to the public where they would look at the planets and they would kind of do a sort of surveying gig to see uh what the system held was there I mean potentially any dangers you know all that type of stuff and once things started to get a little crazier as they do in the next few hundred years once this sort of Rapid age of expansion starts uh they started to slip a little bit on on that kind of stuff but uh so when they got into faren they basically looked around

  8. 00:05:54

and started scanning it and they basically discovered that it was uh four planets and we Zoom right in here to the star which is very big and bright uh it is sure as all of you can see it is a main SE ftype main sequence four star so uh basically you have f one as you can see right here is very very small uh I thought it doesn't like to say that uh but it's it's technically it's a meso Planet uh and uh basically it was sort of uninteresting you know a lot of these planets just turned out to be sort of like me you know uh we can take a leave it they couldn't they couldn't terraform

  9. 00:06:42

it so it was sort of yeah but it was very very close to the star which is sort of the one unique as you can see here uh aspect to it uh so you have the next in the line you have Fen 2 which uh is a terrestrial coreless plant so there's no atmosphere on the planet uh and uh soil samples basically determined that there was no real uh minerals there to harvest few minerals there were there they ended up kind of cleaning out rather quickly uh the big thing with faren and sort of the the immediate association with it uh when sort of approaching the system and breaking it down was sort of uh sort of thinking of a of a once thriving popular very rich resource heavy system that

  10. 00:07:30

suffered a complete and total economic collapse so it died but it's still trudging on type thing was sort of the idea so we have uh uh basically Fen 3 which is somewhere on here Aura so assura was basically uh heavy heavy heavy heavy heavy resources tons of stuff to mine so became immediately like the number one thing to do there uh and so uh as such basically they were able to extract a lot of minerals extract and make a lot of money and so a lot of money like industry moved in there started building up the city the main city in the OR sort of Landing Zone that we're sort of

  11. 00:08:17

thinking now is called tram uh was sort of this massive industrial Mega City effectively uh and and it was like that for a very very very long time uh basically uh you know tram and Fen uh fueled the economy of of the U un and so they when they were first looking at the planet they realized like that there were so many resources there that they had to be smart about how they divided it up they couldn't just do a land rush because it would just get too crazy and so uh the idea was that basically they they were trying to mediate the the the the uh basically the land rights and the Mining rights and stuff like that for uh for the planet and it was so messed up and they kind of screwed the pooch so badly

  12. 00:09:06

on it that uh the government ended up because at the time bear in mind that this was still the United Nations of Earth so uh Earth was the was I mean very much the center point of of the universe and the expansion so you know croshaw system didn't necessarily have much representation they were represented by Nations you know of earth type thing so uh what ended up happening was was once this system basically came to be and they were trying to break apart this planet to to assign Mining rights uh it got so screwed up that some people actually claimed that or believed that it's what triggered the transition into the United planets of Earth which became the sort of now planet is sort of the early Foundation framework for what would ultimately become the uee so uh

  13. 00:09:55

planets would gain equal representation along with Earth and stuff like that and so uh so yeah so it basically on on one hand ended up pushing Humanity forward in a way that they probably didn't necessarily anticipate uh so um so yeah so basically just think massive development massive mining operations tons of money uh I mean you know uh Gold Rush type you know that type of tone to it so it's just a lot of money in there and a lot of and presumably probably a lot of crime moved in along with it because that that kind of tends to go hand in hand uh but it was on a fast track so it basically got it it was one of the the big boys if you will of the upe uh because it was such a massive economic Force within within uh

  14. 00:10:45

the planets and uh I mean this went on for for centuries literally and so uh basically even through most of the Messa errow once they Rose to power it was still they they they sort of they probably gained kind of reputation that they were Untouchable because they they came from such a position of power uh and and resource that they were almost Untouchable but you know these being kind of fanatical family of despots you know they will they will find a way uh and but they didn't manage to last until the last Messer uh uh Messer 11 who was uh Linton mess if I remember correctly uh who accused basically falsely accused the system of housing dissident uh and tried to tried to uh put them on lockdown uh it was obviously

  15. 00:11:37

very untrue because he was kind of a lunatic but uh scared enough people that thought that sort of the Hammer of the messers was coming down that they ended up uh the some of the wealthier citizens and people just started fleeing the system because they just didn't want to be a part of whatever kind of bad stuff was about to go down there uh and and there was a whole thing I if you read the story about the 78 Squadron there was got orders to kill civilians and they refused and it was just sort of big to-do uh and then luckily you know the messers were overthrown the next year so you know yay um so the system managed to kind of Limp on but the this sort of mortal strike had already kind of happened and it was starting to falter uh and then it wasn't until the sort of mid 29th Century where they started sort

  16. 00:12:28

of the unthinkable was happening where they were running out of stuff to mine there was only so much that they could do uh so uh basically they started the system started to dry up whatever money that was still there was starting to realize that they were taking losses by trying to you know strangle whatever minimal resources from the ground that they could and so company started leaving and then basically uh they had nothing lined up you know that that could offer the type of uh income basically or export that that their mining stuff had and so the system basically just sort of completely collapsed and fell on itself so uh which leads to the thing I love about it you know uh tram as a city you you sort of imagine the sort of massive you know I I

  17. 00:13:17

was kind of was thinking of like you know early 1900s like Chicago you know um Detroit you know like these sort of massive just buildings and just beautiful structures of Industry and stuff like that that are now just abandoned and falling apart and uh and stuff like that at the time I was actually reading a a really fun book well not reading but I had a fun book called uh Detroit disassembled which is a urban exploration uh Photography book that's just these beautiful pictures of of downtown Detroit uh and just sort of the the state of sort of Urban Decay and stuff like that and it's really beautiful uh I mean sad and beautiful and you know uh but that was sort of the thing that whenever I think of tram is what I kind of think of these sort of like huge beautiful buildings uh that

  18. 00:14:06

just sort of represented that one point sort of the Pinnacle of of you know uh human industry and and and commerce and stuff like that that are now just these sort of Shadows of what they used to be and stuff like that and the sort of the people that are still there and and stuff so it's it's one of those places that you know if I'm if I'm ever trying to work out a character and I kind of want him to give him an inherent Edge uh to me tram is always the first place I think of of like oh they should come from tram because they've had a real they've clearly had a really hard hard upbring and also actually if you look at the J Gallen uh I believe the in the the news updates who had been caught trying to as a a spy in Shion territory he was he was from tram so that sort of uh uh kind of that sort of background um so uh okay so that's that's a very long

  19. 00:14:56

description of Aura uh and then way out there we have Fen 4 which is a gas giant uh and it's a gas giant you can't live there uh presumably you have fuel that you can grab from it but yeah it's pretty much just a gas giant it just kind of hangs out that's what they do uh so um so yeah that's basically faing in a nutshell um I'd like to thank all of our subscribers who uh kick in extra money every month to support content like my rambling about uh decrepit cities uh and uh yeah we will see you next time on L makers Guide to the Galaxy
