[Music] hello everyone welcome to another episode of 10 for the chairman uh for those of you have not watched this show before this is where I take 10 questions from our subscribers and answer them to the best of my ability uh for those you don't know about our subscribers that's the uh subset of our uh Community our backers that have uh uh generously uh put money every month um to allow us to do an extra uh degree of community content so uh this me answering questions here doing the uh jump Point magazine which is usually 50 to 70 pages of really sort of in-depth behind the scenes uh material uh around the verse uh and a bunch of uh other uh sort of
- 00:00:49
community uh sort of background stuff so sort of the inside Cloud rep Cloud Imperium reports and all the rest stuff so thank you to the subscribers for for um allowing us to do all this extra stuff because it's uh really great to show you the inside of of uh how we're making style citizen okay so let's get to the first one um which comes from Rus uh who asks I am wondering about the ability to tune our ships I know there will be a racing aspect in the game since the M50 and 350r are classified as racing but will we be able to fully customize engines and tune our ships such as we would tune our cars to get the maximum performance out of them uh so yeah the short answer is yes um we're actually working uh on on a whole sort of racing aspect right now that will be another part of sort of the space flight Arena Commander uh you know where you uh
- 00:01:38
we'll get to fly and race and have time trial stuff which I think will be pretty cool uh and uh and we're also um going to allow the tuning which we've talked about before how you can sort of overclock your different equipment whether it's guns or thrusters and stuff like that I think we've uh you know had an engine tuning kit uh which was one of our recent stretch goals we just hit uh so yeah that's all uh long-term meant to be part of the game um and we're actually going to try and get some of that in earlier one of the big goals for me anyway is to try and get more of the items uh like various equipment that you can use out there um along with more of the the base ships out there for people to fly around in especially when sort of the multiplayer combat happens and also when we have the racing part of sort of
- 00:02:26
the Arena Commander because then it will really allow people to understand like the the sort of U tradeoffs and balances that you you get with your with your items and equipment and balancing your energy and and uh weight and all the rest of stuff which is all there it's all in the system but you don't really appreciate it right now because there's one default set of equipment on the three dog fighting ships that you use and actually in some of the items weren't set up so like the 300i uh currently that'll be fixed has like way too much power out of it power plant so like it's always got way it's got way more power than other items can use which you know it doesn't make sense that just would say like something left over from when people were testing stuff they wanted to make check all the things were working and they never got fixed so that gets fixed that's why we're doing
- 00:03:12
the uh the early testing anyway um so I think that will be fun I'm hoping people will actually um you know have a cool sort of mini game tweaking things and also balancing things on the fly all right next question comes from beo the red uh who asks will there be law specific things hidden throughout the persistent Universe things that don't necessarily have a monetary value but will add depth to the Galaxy story and the game itself like the discovery of a long lost deric ship the cause of the extinction of a civilization or the source of a jean religious tradition and if so will these things be unique meaning only the person who finds it will have it so that's a great question we are definitely planning on having uh sort of law building Universe building things uh out there so you know deric ship uh you know alien artifact all that
- 00:04:01
kind of stuff uh and um I think you know in some cases I mean there will be persistence with this stuff so there'll be a limited amount of items so maybe one there'll only be one of one thing and maybe there'll be 10 of another thing uh but there'll definitely be these sort of things that will uh pep around but um essentially you know everybody won't have uh you know the Arc of Truth themselves if you know what I mean so uh we try to sort of make it so there's a certain amount of artifacts and stuff that you can uh discover and and use and some will be unique and then some will sort of not be one-offs but they'll be oneof a set kind of thing um and I think it'll be pretty uh it should be pretty cool we're going to definitely try and have this sort of stuff for the Salvage and the Explorer um gameplay
- 00:04:50
mechanic down the road uh okay next question comes from Deathstroke who asks I have been wondering what happens if we get in a position where we can't afford to replace a part on a ship say I have a 325A I'm down on my luck and can't afford a new replacement Wing however a dealer has a wing from another ship that I can afford can I attach that wing on my ship and further than that is there a fail state if I cannot afford it I mean that's a good question I'm not sure that we're um going to be salvaging wings and parts off other ships I mean essentially if your ship's damage you'll bring it down to um the the repair shop say on a planet and then it will cost so much money to repair it uh I think we've sort of discussed uh to a certain level uh that there potentially would be a case where you could uh take a loan out to uh fix
- 00:05:39
things or do stuff on your ship if uh you don't have enough money for it and then at a certain point uh you wouldn't be able to get anymore and if you still don't pay that off then people come after you to uh uh get it from you um uh and then at that point you may not be able to fly your ship but perhaps you can take a job being a pilot for someone else or doing some mundane job for someone else to earn enough money to go and fix your ship which is kind of what you would do in in the real world so uh that's kind of our thinking as far as that goes okay next question comes from cloud dragon who asks what ideas are being fleshed out for various alien ship flight Behavior specifically single Caesar ships will the dog fight module incorporate other aliens in the future besides the current Vandal and how will they feel different uh you know I think we just uh showed the Jean Scout um this
- 00:06:27
past weekend and that's an example of another alien ship um that we're actually in the process of making U uh sort of hanger and dog fight ready so we can put it in and and essentially have it uh fly around and be something we can fight against and and just try out different uh like feelings and models and Dynamics on on ships um so uh you know our plan is actually to use the arena Commander as a sort of module as a test bed for uh you know the human ship ships and even the uh you know a good portion of the alien ships um uh before they have to go into P Universe which I think will be pretty good um you know I I think with the Jean we've talked about the fact they're much more maneuverable and and you know much more a sort of six
- 00:07:16
degree of Freedom kind of ship uh so um that's in progress so check back later in Arena commander and see how that's going um all right next question comes from a trusty question who um I think probably wins the uh prize for the most number of questions asked on 10 for the chairman beer for the beer guard who asks as a design philosophy what balance do you intend to strike between imersion and fun for example will I have to visit the bar every time I want a job or will I be able to look up something on my Mobi glass and never leave the ship if I want to load and unload cargo will I have to do that manually or can I just have it done while I'm still in my captain's chair at what point do you declare immersion to be tedious and cut it out uh uh well that's a good question so I
- 00:08:04
think that we know we have we want to balance between all this sort of stuff so like for instance on the missions uh your Mobi glass will probably be your primary um interface to sort of you know what we call the uh kind of uh the mission brokerage system which is a little like uh sort of um a Craigslist or so which if you're over the US I think they have Craigslist in other parts of the world too um which would sort of list I jobs you can take and and all the rest of stuff and that would be sort of your Mobi glass and that would be sort of Center over the Spectrum and our universe but then there will also be some missions that you that won't be available over that setup and you would potentially have to go to a bar or down a dark alley to get some some more kind of uh dubious of different missions and that would be a reason to go visit a bar so we sort of mix it up so uh you know some stuff sort of like you have to go
- 00:08:52
visit the place forcing you to get out go into maybe a place you're not so comfortable and some stuff can be sort of done just like it is in the real world online um and that's kind of the the approach um you know Cargo in general most of it would be loaded and unloaded while you're off doing other stuff uh I think uh in some cases uh we we've been discussing uh points where you know maybe uh you have to oversee or supervise some of stuff in case there's like a PVE encounter like you know a scenario could be you're on a sketchy planet and you're unloading some stuff and a couple of people trying to mug you and you have to uh fight them off um you know that's all sort of things that we're playing around with but again you know a fair number of it would be you would come back and you would sort of see the cargo going in or out and things happening with without you having to
- 00:09:40
actually personally load it all up yourself although maybe there'll be some cases where you're the only person that can unload or load it so I guess it would sort of depend on um the location or the planet um so you know like if you're in space and you're dumping cargo or you're putting Cargo in that you've just uh salvaged let's say um off a wreck uh then you will have to actually get out of your ship and and and make sure it gets into uh your cargo you'll have to have a tractor beam that can pull it into your cargo held uh so I hope that answers the question about the sort of balance so we don't want to make it too tedious but we do want to sort of feel like you actually have to do some stuff and so we sort of strike a balance in between both ways um okay just a game uh is going to ask uh in your view is it possible to have a Level Playing Field between someone using o assuming that's
- 00:10:30
OAS Rift and someone who isn't is it even a desirable goal if not are there other ways planned to allow for people to get the most out of innovative devices such as Ulus Rift without creating competitive imbalances that's a good question we haven't really been able to do a huge amount of sort of testing between so on flying in Oculus Rift and so on not flying an Oculus Rift we have sets in all the offices uh but the Oculus Rift resolution even on the high HD set isn't actually that great at the moment so uh you are sort of Handy cap with some of the the resolution of the stuff comparatively to someone that's playing on a on a big monitor um but I will say that the you know in say for instance the UK one of our designers is a huge um VR fan and so he plays with the AAS Rift all the time against other people uh and he's not the top guy now that maybe he may not be very good at
- 00:11:18
flying or the Aquos rft may not be giving him a overwhelming Advantage I mean generally the nice thing with the offo rift is it just sort of frees your head look and you can look around and you can sort of track Target and it also can happen when you have guns that gimal then obviously they'll track that but don't forget the gimingaw put on OAS Rift and completely dominated everyone else uh it's generally being much more down to Pilot skill but I do think that the ocas ri gives you more immersion and you know potentially could perhaps uh give two equal Pilots an advantage uh but we haven't gone far far enough in to being able to balance all that properly uh okay next question comes from Captain Darkstar who asks if you discover a jump
- 00:12:07
point and immediately explore the system after the jump are you able to claim some of the land on any planets you discover inside the system once you report the jump Point Intel to the UE authorities don't have a great answer for that because we still haven't really decided on whether you can actually like own like a planet or a land or a portion of land uh at all so you can definitely navigate a jump Point get to name it get to name a system um and potentially if there was an area like an asteroid der asteroid base or whatever you could land on that and sort of control it or claim it for yourself uh but I'm not sure that we're going to currently let people land on like a baron planet and say Yep this is you know Chris world or something like that uh so we are we we do want to have a certain level of player controlled um terrain but right now
- 00:12:55
that's sort of kind of limited to the sort of space station asterid D bases the stuff that you can find in space or a big capital ship um but longer term uh you know we are thinking about well is there ways to do that on some land so I think that ultimately will get into the game I'm not sure it'll be in there in V1 if that makes sense okay next question comes from jakito deyo who asks I was wondering if the game is going to Output Telemetry data for advanced Sim cockpits with gimbals and mfds well uh uh yeah potentially I mean we've talked about building like the ultimate sort of Star Citizen like Sim seat thing where you can move around and stuff and uh and cry engine actually does already have sort of some kind of
- 00:13:43
support for that cuz they also use it for sort of real military simulation work um so potentially for the cockpit gimbal stuff um uh we'll sort of that's the sort of project that we'll play around with and we have talked about doing secondary display um you know like on a tablet or something if you want to be able to put off a you know weapons or status display um but uh you know not promising that as a feature for V 1.0 it's sort of a uh kind of fun and play with it and try and uh get it there if we can it's sort of like an internal uh project but we got a bunch of other stuff to do first so uh don't get on my case if you it's not done in the next three weeks um okay next um question comes from dream Rider who asked hello Chris do you think that the first race course might make it in
- 00:14:32
soon after dfm V1 or when do you think we might get to test racing well we are working on the race course right now and uh we are um shooting to have it available um sometime right after dfm V10 and uh this uh a little later on this year at gamescon will probably be uh demoing and previewing a whole bunch of uh stuff including that and some other cool stuff so so if you're going to be near gamescon it would be cool to see you there if not we will definitely always as always be sharing it for the worldwide audience um via the web all right last question comes from traveling Matt who asks manufacturers continually update their designs or drop them and replace them with new models will ships and Star Citizen be built on a similar
- 00:15:20
base where the 2944 Aurora gives way to the updated 2945 Aurora it will be interesting to see if a classic ship Market emerges or a particular series of ships become highly sought after for some reason or another that is a great uh suggestion it's also something we're actually doing I mean we did for the Aurora if you don't in case you don't remember the 2943 Aurora was the first Aurora that you back for and then we uh launched the uh the brochure for the Aurora last year which was the updated 2944 introducing the legion air uh variant uh and we definitely plan to upgrade and change the ships as we go along in fact if you actually take a look at you look at the Hornet at the very beginning the hornet in V like Hangar uh that was released in August and you look at the Hornet you have now
- 00:16:08
in dog fighting they are fairly different The Hornet's like gone through quite a lot of changes looks a lot better it's moved to PBR it's had higher uh res uh textures more geometry added to it the same has also happened for the 300 I it's had a significant upgrade uh and I think that we will um sort of be following the car model where we'll sort of be occasionally upgrading the ships and also upgrading their performance and changing around the stuff cuz I think it would be very cool to to make it like uh cars where you know models change out and then of course you can have a collector's edition or you know something that like you know well this is you know the 1965 you know Corvette was a classic and I love tooling around in it um so yeah I think I think that's very much in the spirit and it's definitely something we're doing so great question traveling Matt uh and that brings us to the end of this
- 00:16:55
episode of 10 for the chairman um a little vanilla today I didn't have any props or gifts to show off so um but next episode hopefully I will uh and thank you all for watching uh thank you all for um supporting and backing uh the project uh without all your support we couldn't make this uh incredibly ambitious and Incredibly fun game uh you know really look forward to you know reading the feedback and the comments uh it's really great and interesting seeing sort of how things are moving with uh Arena Commander I mean we got a lot of work still to do we got a lot of uh balancing on the on exactly how the ifcs works the input mechanisms and a whole bunch of other polished stuff that we have so we're all working really hard on it but uh we all really appreciate your feedback it's great to see people sort of move and evolve and uh you know
- 00:17:43
hopefully um you know within you know the as time goes on we get more and more people into the multiplex I'm really looking forward to the point where everyone can be playing against each other and we're also sort of balancing the ships and adding more items in and sort of seeing how uh the systems that we've built kind of uh adapt to um you know everyone's tactics and flight Styles and all the rest of stuff so so uh yeah um having a great time uh like again thank everyone for backing thank the subscribers for allowing us to do this extra level of content and I will see you next week bye
