[Music] hello everyone welcome to another episode of 10 for the chairman uh for those of you haven't watched this before um this is where I take 10 questions from the subscribers and answer them to the best of my ability the subscribers are the subset of our community that contribute money every month to enable us to do enhanced community uh content so this show around the verse uh jump point which is a 50 to 70 page and sometimes longer actually um monthly magazine that has sort of deep dives into um how we build the ships uh various sort of behind the scenes design stuff um you know how we put things

  2. 00:00:48

together and also has some pretty cool and interesting fiction and background on parts of the SAR universe so it's a great read if you haven't checked out um jump Point um but um you know the subscribers allow us to sort of do the enhanced amount of community content that I think sets stares apart from a lot of other um games out there and and crowdfunded games as well as just regular games so thank you very much subscribers and that's why I answer 10 questions every uh week um so speaking of uh you know um people that uh have enabled us to make the game uh I have a rather actually kind of detailed and nice letter um uh from real read his real name but um he goes by uh Vlog uh AKs Seth darklight on our forums uh who

  3. 00:01:38

wrote a eight-page um sort of uh design feedback uh suggestion stuff so there's uh uh it's good and it's the same as we see sort of on the forums uh uh you know on our own site stuff and Reddit and stuff like that um and it's actually one of the things that's really cool about Star Citizen is just the the ability to sort of read and look and you know necessarily agree with everything but if there's good ideas you sort of take it on board and you have the opportunity to do this in a way that you never would do in traditional development because you tend to be closed and everything sort of tends to um with you know at some point the team kind of can lose sight of uh you know the forest for the trees so to speak um and uh so it's actually kind of good to have the sort of feedback loop

  4. 00:02:28

we have and have it early enough in the process that can affect stuff so we've got um 2.0 coming up uh very soon we have a a live stream here a little later on this week and uh uh you know 2.0 is uh going to be um very close to that um so uh uh and um anyway I hope you guys are enjoy it it's going to be a uh a whole another level of sort of play and interaction compared to what you've done in the past in uh Star Citizen in Arena commander and art Corp uh so I'm actually kind of pretty interested because I think there'll be a there'll be a bunch of stuff that will sort of come to light and play Styles and things that people do that you can't really do in the current setup and uh and you know we put a little bit of content in there but not really uh you know close to

  5. 00:03:16

what's ultimately going to be in there but I think it's a really great Foundation because it's s going to be the first place where you'll sort of have uh everything together sort of the vehicles flying around but also moving around Eva you firing you know engaging FPS going off fighting AI or fighting other players uh and then we're just going to sort of build from there um so I'm uh I'm actually really curious to to sort of see that because it's sort of very foundational for what we're going to do um and the whole team is so they're all working really hard me myself included which is why I'm uh you know maybe my eyes are slightly tired today because I'm not necessarily getting as much sleep as I would if we weren't trying to get towards uh getting 2. hour out for you but um we're all pretty excited for that so um anyway so just want to let you know that so thank you by the way very much sth darklite for your suggestions and I think you may

  6. 00:04:05

have sent this we don't really know if it wasn't you then whoever it was let us know about customer service uh but thank you for the Steven Hawkin novel a brief Brief History of Time uh that was uh that's very cool it's two books in one as you can see here on the bottom uh so thanks uh but now let me get to the questions first one comes from 127th in Brackets chaos who are asked can I swap out uh my p52 to a p72 on the base model of the constellation so I haven't really decided we've sort of uh just finished uh up uh gmark um uh you know who's uh one of our internal concept artist and has done some really great stuff so he did the Vanguard for instance he did the Carrick uh has done uh the um the uh the p72 which we're setting up as a eraser

  7. 00:04:56

uh and so we may have the ability to sort of upgraded or buy a p72 separate from what you get with your um constellation Phoenix uh but we haven't fully decided made the decision yet um but they're all going to be cool and I you know can't wait to uh um you know see the constellation flying out in space and you have your Merlin or your Archimedes uh and you can you know take it from your constellation and flly around and come back and dock um so that's going to be pretty cool it won't be in 2.0 but it's uh hopefully going to be in 2.1 uh we just have to finish up the final bit of The Binding a vehicle to another vehicle and dealing with a local physics grid so it makes it a bit more complicated but when that happens it's going to be pretty awesome and I think that's just a whole another level

  8. 00:05:43

of cool gameplay stuff that people can do okay next question comes from resk who asks will escape pods be functional in the multic Cru ships upon release of staron alpha 2.0 how are they intended to work so the Escape pods uh will not be functional in 2.0 um longer term they will probably not for 2.1 but I would say after that um but the idea would be um you should be able to you know especially for the Pu you should be able to get into the Escape pod seal it up and get out of there which is sort of your um uh you know Escape when the ship's going down so the bigger multic Cru ships when they're about to blow I think we've sort of previewed some kind of like warning of damage or D damage states that sort of you know you've got so many seconds to get out before the thing blows and that would be either getting into your Eva suit and then trying to e you know

  9. 00:06:31

Eva away far enough that the explosion won't hurt you or getting into an escape pod and escaping away which will eject you and and probably keep you more safe so generally if your ship's about ready to blow uh in the Pu especially this is you would get into the Escape pod and the Escape pod has a a track or a tag on it so that's sort of kind of how you would get found and respawned and go back to uh sort of the blast friendly pant you're on um so that's how they're intended to work um so uh and if you do use obviously use your skate pod then you know that's one of the ways to sort of save a life so to speak when your ship otherwise if you go the ship blows up then you'll have lost one of your lives and you'll wake up in the hospital having you know then found your your you know almost dead body CH and brought you back to life so um so yes use Escape pods when we have them working that is

  10. 00:07:20

next question comes from uh Zenon who asks in regards to personal armor FPS currently we have light medium heavy and heavy armors that a player can wear and it comes as a suit of armor is there any plant to allow us to mix and match armor types if so how is the overall prodection value determined or is protection based on hit location and armor protecting that particular location so for the initial 2.0 and star Marine we just have the light medium and heavy which are full suits of armor but that is temporary uh the actual long-term plan where it's actually in the process of sort of concepting it is to have the armors be very much um pieces so almost like uh you know the medium armor is like heavy heavier pieces of armor you put on the same base suit and the um you know the the heavy

  11. 00:08:09

would be go One Step Beyond that um so you could mix a match between say breast plates or shoulder guards or you know um armor padding on the legs and that absolutely would be based on sort of physical hit location and the sort of uh density and strength of the material you're hitting there that will come with the physically based uh weapon and damage stuff that we we will be working on it's not going to be in uh 2.0 it will come when we bring our sort of you know new refactored uh items to the table uh which is likely to be probably 22 I would think uh cuz 21's going to be fairly close after two so we may not have time to get in because it's a

  12. 00:08:57

pretty big re re big refactor but but um uh I think that will just sort of give a lot more sort of flexibility and Fidelity and uh should uh should be pretty cool when we actually get proper physical uh damage and you know sort of physical characteristics for sort of the projectiles um there you go okay next question comes from draconus who asks have you seen any signs that anyone in the gaming industry is taking to Heart the points you made during your presentation at GDC if so could you provide an example okay uh I'm just trying to think presentation at the game developers conference cuz uh I don't think I've made a presentation at the game developers conference since um uh I did one at the sort of GDC online that was here in La quite a while ago uh but I haven't really done one um at uh GDC

  13. 00:09:48

maybe I did one like I see Gamers con not this year the year before I did one I guess that's a European GDC um so I'm not sure sure whether you know we definitely are doing you know I think I've made my points fairly consistently about what we try to do engaging the community uh sharing the work we're doing and by doing that and also having the ability to iterate and make things better because you have a community involved and giving you feedback on a level that you wouldn't have with a sort of you know internal development team or internal testing uh I definitely see uh people out there that are sort of taking to Heart the more community-driven development uh uh process uh I'm not I'm you know we're not the only ones to do that by the way I mean you know there's people that have been sort of being you

  14. 00:10:36

know Community Driven in the past um as well uh but I but I I certainly think the fact that you know we've managed to um you know mount a project this ambitious with uh you know support of everyone out there has opened a lot of eyes because uh you know it's a totally different way you know before people sort of dismissed crowdfunding and doing things the open way has been of a small Niche thing to do but we're not smaller Niche we're competing with the biggest projects out there and it's all because of you guys and that's that's pretty good so I definitely see that um you know when I talk to people in the industry uh on the gaming side um there's a lot of people that have you know have paid attention to that and understand the power of it uh and like I said I don't think we're the only people

  15. 00:11:24

that have ever done that it's not unique to us uh I just think that we've sort of really committed it wholehearted and uh that's helped out um so I do think that in some ways we are helping sort of change things uh slowly uh you know crowdfunding definitely has done that as well um so um there you go I mean you know it's kind of hard to say giving an example I mean you can kind of see some other crowdfunding campaigns and they do sort of follow a lot of uh the processes we we uh you know sort of started I definitely know that even in the case of uh shroud of the Avatar quite a while ago you know I was tell telling Richard hey you should go and crowdfund and then when they were starting it you know both Richard at Dallas I you know we had some chats and I'm like yeah this is kind of what worked for us and and you know they've been doing an amazing job themselves I'm like always impressed by

  16. 00:12:12

you know how consistent they are how they're constantly pushing out new content how they're engaging uh their Community they're doing a great job and you know to be honest with you there's a lot of other um you know sort of crowdfunding campaigns that are doing a good job of that too um you know we've shouted out a few and backed a few and uh I think you'll also longer term you know even Publishers sort of embrace the model of engaging your community early giving them access giving an opportunity to come and feedback and make them feel like they're involved in the process all right next question comes from Leen hard sepala sepala sounds like a Finnish name who asks how will landing on Crusader uh in Alpha 2.0 release compared to what we saw in CZ gone in 2014 and how close will you be to your final vision for Planet like Landing sequences well

  17. 00:13:01

citizen Con 2014 we showed Landing in AR Corp and we're not going to be landing in AR Corp in 2.0 so we don't have planetary Landings we have Landings on various space stations I think we have three main space stations and I think there's six or seven sort of communication satellites that are sort of scattered around um the uh the Crusader gas giant um so we're not going to have the planetary Landings uh this year um it will be next year um and um it will definitely be like we saw in the citizen car 2014 but probably much better so we've got some pretty cool stuff that we're working on not ready to show it yet but uh I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised when they when they see what we're working on uh cuz

  18. 00:13:50

it's anyway we're going to we'll be doing something that I didn't think we'll be able to do for quite a while so I'm I'm quite happy with that um but again like I said I uh we we'll wait to show you that we got a bunch of stuff to do first um but uh you know I think there will be more free form um from space down to planets uh than we were originally saying so and it will all stream and um be pretty cool so there's a bunch of tech that's sort of coming together um towards uh you know this year to the end and the very beginning next year that will enable that and uh we'll be showing it um uh to you guys uh you know sometime early next year and hopefully you'll like it next question comes from moo kids who ask in multi cruise ships will the ships be capable of Performing extreme Maneuvers that can cause blackout red out if so uh would that mean that people on board not

  19. 00:14:38

strapped in would be prone to be thrown around the interior of the ship as the GeForce needed to cause a blackout red out be too much for an unrestrained document to stand still so longer term in the multi cruise ships I would like you to be able to do more violent Maneuvers and in the violent Maneuvers if you're not strapped into a seat you'll kind of get thrown around a little bit just like if you're on a sheer or an airplane and you know had a violent maneuver you would get thrown around that will not be implemented in 2.0 uh it's actually not particularly that difficult to uh to implement it's just we've got so many things to do that there's a lot of things that are priority above that so we'd like to do that I'm not sure that we'll ever be able to have a multi creu sort of pull the kind of extreme g-forces that sort of a high performance fighter could I mean it's going to be very similar to the way that say a passenger jet

  20. 00:15:26

airliner would be compared to say an F-16 so an F16 obviously you can pull you know is is built for you know much more aggressive Maneuvers than say passenger China but you certainly will be a you should be able to maneuver your um you know multi cruise ship uh you know fairly violently and throw people around ultimately uh like I said well be for 2.0 but that is absolutely going to be part of the the goal so that'll be a reason to strap in and combat and do other stuff like that and if you have loose boxes they would get moved around and stuff like that so so coming but not in 2.0 next question comes from crash with a K who asks if I purchase components missiles a shield generator weapons Etc will they remain in my inventory when the Pu goes live or are these purchases just to support the continuing efforts to create the best

  21. 00:16:13

damn space Sim ever and will be deleted when we go live okay so if you actually purchase the components using ueec uh which we've given you by default with your account uh and occasionally we give uh additional ones and uh you can also buy some U um those will all be permanent and will carry across into the Pu um anything that you're you would purchase um with sort of a temperary currency so we're debating doing a temporary currency um for sort of the you know baby puu that we're working on now to allow you to sort of earn some money that would obviously be wiped um and obviously wreck um which is the rental equipment credit stuff which we may also carry across into sort of Crusader the baby puu is obviously temporary it rent for a period of time time um so um that's kind of thing so if you yeah essentially if

  22. 00:17:03

you've uh bought some stuff with hard cash then yes you have it in the baby puu and you would have it all the way um you know once the proper uh Game Works cuz yeah that wouldn't wouldn't be very fair if we if we uh we we didn't let you do that um I will say that it doesn't mean that some of the items or components may not get balanced because obviously as you've seen as we put stuff out there occasionally stuff needs to be runed or rebalanced based on you features that come in a game playay or maybe we've just sort of made a weapon or a component too powerful and we need to sort of adjust it uh but if you bought it you'll be able to to get it and obviously once we get ueec working properly in the game you'll also be able to sort of earn items and then sell them back uh to get credits back and to buy other stuff uh inside the game system

  23. 00:17:51

next question comes from Drea who asks are there any changes being made to the startup sequence for large multi Cru ships I noticed in the the 2.0 demo that within a few seconds of the pilot taking the controls the ship was airborne and flying off well I mean you know you'll get into the ship you'll sort of turn it on and you you'll get the HUD boot up and then after the thrusters are spoed up you should be able to fly it uh longer term um you know we're actually working on stuff that will be a bit more involved so um you know kind of uh having sort of uh you know an interactable uh cockpit where you can you know not just you know have the screens to interact with but also turn switches off and on so some more old school ships you know you may have to click stuff off and on um and uh you know some more modern ones maybe just

  24. 00:18:39

touch screens or Holograms but um we we kind of will'll probably make some of that more involveed later on um so there's some new stuff that's coming uh with our usability and item refactor that will allow us to sort of look around the cockpit and I think you've seen a preview of what we're doing with the the interactive screens but that will all extend to all so like oh look here's a switch I can turn a switch or you know sort interact with buttons and everything in cockpit so you know you get in you know turn your power plant on turn your hood on and those kind of things so um that we will probably add some of that um we don't want to go too crazy on it because he also want to make this game accessible so we're already fairly uh you know it's uh I know some people think that we're we're we're a very simple game but um if you compare us to say even the past Wing commanders

  25. 00:19:28

I've done in the privateers we've got we've got a lot more knobs and dials that you turn and uh you know modes you switch between I mean just moving to the new flight modes that's already four flight modes that you know in the old Wing command was just one flight mode um so uh so we're adding this extra complexity uh for when you get into the game you can really sort of get the most out of it but we also need the kind of basic oh I get my basic starter ship it's just on automatic I don't need to tweak anything and I can just easily fly and take off and then as you get more into it and you want to sort of get like slightly better performance or more control then you would sort of go into a more manual state so that's kind of like the analogy between having a car that's an automatic and a car that's a manual um so uh but right now um I think our startup sequences will be relatively

  26. 00:20:15

short to allow you to get into the action but longer term we may make it more involved um for the bigger ships and all the rest stuff to make it generally cool okay next question comes from saber saber by the way spelled the American way who asks will there be voice commands to act as shortcuts so if you want to change your Shield prefences you can say Shields as a voice and it will direct you to the shield options so right now um I I know our community has been pretty active uh there's been a bunch of really cool voice attack profiles that have been put together by people so you can kind of do that sort of on a community SC where um people have been sharing their profiles and the setup for that longer term that is absolutely on our audio road map so it's one of the things that I will have on the uh on the audio road map is sort of basically building in um voice commands

  27. 00:21:04

to the game itself I mean it's pretty appropriate where a Sci-Fi game um you already have voice recognition engine on Windows which is pretty good which is what voice attack uses so it is one of the things that the audio department um have on their long-term road map to implement but of course we've got quite a few other things like the sort of viip and sort of the situational uh kind of voice that people could do whether they're you know behind you or talking to you over helmet and stuff like that but longterm yes that's the plan shortterm right now you can do this uh just by sort of setting up voice attack and getting some of the profil set up by the community all right last question comes from Sensei um who asks my org is in the process of choosing a home planet we have a in-law history and would like to sell on a planet like Yar or Hyperion could you tell us how you

  28. 00:21:52

envision the P release regarding star systems availability will all star systems be available uh at the end of the beta or after a gradual provisioning um so it's actually too early to sort of make a call on um you know which planets will allow players to start on we are going to have a selection of planets that people could start on uh when they start the game uh so we don't sort of have player crowding in just one location uh we haven't made a decision of how many they will be and where they will be located uh but it certainly wouldn't it probably wouldn't be all the places we have uh it probably would be sort of kind of of the you know the bigger or the more likely candidates in uee space uh but you know whether it's we give you an option of four starting locations there's 10 starting locations uh we haven't determined that yet that

  29. 00:22:40

will sort of kind of iteratively um be decided as we sort of grow the the Universe um right now obviously one starting location is in Stanton um but uh you know obviously that's going to change as we as we add more places and content to places so it's too early to say uh we will will give you a choice um and maybe it will be related to some of the preferences you want to do like whether you're you know if you're more keen um and being an outlaw or you more want more PVP uh then you probably don't want to be in the heart of UE space um so things like that will also factor into but um as I said it's uh it's early days yet so we haven't fully decided what that's going to be um there will be multiple choices uh don't know quite how many of them um and whether we'll sort of have some small at the beginning and

  30. 00:23:29

then roll out larger options we go along which I would suspect would probably be the likely the route we take um so there you go there's the 10 questions from uh subscribers for this week uh I'll be seeing you a little later on uh on Thursday for the live stream uh and I just would like to thank everyone uh out there especially subscribers for um you know contributing money every month to allow us to do this kind of content to the community as a large for um backing us and enabling us to make the the game uh of our my dreams and most well the team's dreams and I think your guys dreams um you know it's pretty unprecedented that we're building a game of this scope and scale uh you know uh you know the amount of money we've raised is pretty mindboggling uh but it's you know as I said you know quite a while ago

  31. 00:24:18

everything that we raise goes back into the game um and you know that's kind of a unique most people uh when they make lots of money they take it off as profits but as far as I'm concerned it's just allowing uh us to build a much bigger richer universe and so I thank you all for that and uh I'm going to continue that commitment and pledge until we've got the game to the state that it's done and then hopefully we'll just earn enough money to um maintain the world and add more content to it um but uh you know it's it's it's great it's a lot of work but um I'm really excited to see it come together uh more and more elements are sort of dropping in and I think the the the level of fidelity combined with sort of the scope and goal and ambition of it is really what's going to set it apart so you know starting with 2.0 that's you're going to start to sort of feel a bit of that and

  32. 00:25:05

then going into next year you'll definitely be feeling and seeing a lot more of that um so um thank you all and uh well I'll see you on Thursday goodbye hey guys thanks for watching um temp for the chairman if you guys would like to uh see more episodes go here if you guys would like to subscribe to our YouTube channel and always keep up to date with all our video content go here and uh if you guys would like to watch episodes of around the verse go here please and I will see you in the verse this video made possible by the ICC Stellar surveyors and subscribers like you [Applause]
