hello everybody uh welcome to another episode of star citizen live the narrative team q a i'm your host jared huckabee and if for some reason you've never seen star citizen live before maybe you've just joined the project through our recent free free fly for instance i supposed to say flea fly just like in that meeting yesterday when we kept saying hot box instead of hot desk that was really awkward if you're welcome to the show this is a good start none of you're going to say anything you're just going to let me just i'm just enjoying it no just going to let me fill out here yeah it's pretty nice if you've never seen star star citizen live before it's where we take about an hour out of the end of our week and we hang out with members of our uh our staff and we we we talk a little bit about who they are what they do and answer

  2. 00:00:49

questions from you the star citizen community joining us on the show this week are uh several members of our esteemed narrative team uh starting with uh we'll do introductions this way uh a man who probably needs no introduction but we're gonna make him do it anyway uh mr dave haddock dave how are you hello good how are you i'm doing well tell people like who you are what do you do uh i am the narrative director over here at cig um and basically we kind of work on both all the a lot of the fiction stuff for the star citizen as well as squadron 42 where scripts characters props name descriptions languages we do weekly lore posts we do all sorts of stuff so yeah we kind of have our

  3. 00:01:36

hands and many pies uh throughout the company so yeah many pies uh adam who are you what do you do for star citizen i am adam and i uh work for dave and i work as a writer here and do uh all those things that uh dave needs support on whether it's lore post item descriptions jump point on and on and on and on so i thought you were going to say all those things dave doesn't want to do i really thought that's where you were going potentially yeah i don't know it depends upon how it all falls but yeah and of course a long time viewers may remember uh dave and adam from our uh uh recurring loremaker's guide to the galaxy series that used to air on youtube uh in yay old days uh we have two uh uh new faces not new

  4. 00:02:26

to the company or the project but maybe new to you uh so we're gonna start with uh uh this direction it's mirrored here blythe who are you and what do you do for star citizen hi i'm live um i am the associate producer for the narrative team um i've actually only been here for a few months so i am relatively new to the company so uh i'm very excited to be here excited to wrangle these weirdos i'm gonna say what what is it what is the producer for the narrative team um it's uh it's like herding cats mostly um but yeah you you take all of the requests that come in for your team and then you figure out who's going to do this and when are they going to do it and then you tell them you know if they're going to do it and you get to say no sometimes that's fun so you know sometimes not all wait saying no is an option ah wow we need to

  5. 00:03:16

talk to your producer i guess and nobody told jared that that's why he's doing the show and uh last and least uh mike concella who are you and what do you do hi jared first time long time and uh i i'm happy to be here i'm the i'm the the resident copywriter uh member of the narrative team i i work on a lot of the the copy you see on the website for uh you know when we come up with new spaceships or release old spaceships into the wild um or when we do any sort of like marketing stuff uh you see the iae and invictus and all the big um the big fun marketing events that cross over into the game i i'm working on those things ship commercials anything any video content

  6. 00:04:06

you see that's like lore related a lot of that is is coming through me uh and yeah a lot of the strawberry rhubarb pie is mostly the pie that i have my fingers in um but uh and i was i would say like when you ask blind what she does i'm like blind is the one that that like sorts the pies for us to put our hands into you know like she's like she makes sure that today's the lemon meringue instead of the coconut cream or whatever you know and you know so that's it that's what you know i guess it's going to be our theme for the day is pie i mean devolve into meat pies soon and religious testing oh no see what i told you is gonna turn into a debate no now we got our first question and then uh uh super servant folks who

  7. 00:04:55

have been around for a while might recognize uh mike as the disgusting homunculus from our first uh uh easy hab of horror uh video and i've been lurking i've been lurking around for a few years now you may have yeah close observers may have seen me in old episodes of uh this historic citizen and uh various other weird places in the star citizen universe all right so uh with introductions out of the way we'll get into the we'll get into the questions from the uh from the community as usual you can if you're watching live on twitch you can submit your question with the word question in capital letters surrounded by brackets it's going to help me pull it out from the rest of the chat that's going on just as a reminder this is the narrative team so if your question is

  8. 00:05:43

when bad new merchantman or how will salvaging work or or or anything like that this is not the team for that this is the team for the for the for the story and the history and the context uh behind the universe that you're playing in today so uh right off the bat we'll go to the thread that we put up earlier this week you knew the top voted question was going to be tessa related like every single time we do this we know this is the case and this is no different uh will we see the return of missions with lore story behind them like the old tessa missions following following a quest line and finding a bigger story unfolding if we spend the time to explore more yes i mean that's the that's the goals

  9. 00:06:30

that we're trying to build towards i mean obviously right now a lot of it is sort of building the the mechanics of the various mission types that we'll be able to do but the idea ultimately has always been like you know we want to we want to take those missions and then start to apply much more story much more character and you know to to get people more involved and stuff like that but it's right now it's again it's about getting those initial framework blueprints uh out and functioning and kind of refined and then we can kind of play around and have fun with them yeah if you watched uh yesterday's inside star citizen we had a feature with the with ben dorsey on the changes to the reputation system and a lot of the a lot of the tweaks that are happening in the reputation system will unlock a variety of storytelling options for our mission for our mission designers and

  10. 00:07:18

stuff which is one of the really exciting aspects of that it's it's a it's a change happening internally that will then hopefully yield to a much more interesting and engaging quest and mission opportunities for the players and those will all obviously involve the narrative team uh let's see next question how does squadron 42 end um let's see uh spectacularly every everybody dies you know you know that one was going to come up too so legitimately in the in the chat people can watch it people can watch the replays spectacularly i like that yet uh spectacularly uh the klaus and warner laser repeaters are all named after earth animals with one notable exception the cf-557 galdurine what is a galdurine

  11. 00:08:08

is it notable though it was notable to this person skaldering is a is a fictional animal correct i believe that uh but you know i don't think it's been established quite yet what it's what it is but it is a fictional animal yeah i think sort of the idea of it was just that again like you know we had a handful of of known animals uh but in the era of this time they would have because they would have planets that were not terraformed so they would have their own wildlife basically that they would some animal would basically be of note that would be a good inspiration for this weapon that's the idea but what it is we don't know yet it gives us a little room whenever uh the the character team designs some cool

  12. 00:08:56

animals in the future that gives us one out there to be able to name it and when we do name a bunch of things like that we always you know sometimes there's a philosophy like two to real one fake you know just kind of like make up something that would be a you know a word or a thing that'll that could be in this world that kind of helps build a little mystery into it or give it a little history outside of what we know just so it's it's a nice reminder to the player and everyone that yeah we're we're in a different time so it is something we build in and like i said we need so many names for so many different things and the world keeps expanding so it's nice to have a few of those there to be able to rely on when whenever we might need a name like that so we shall see uh let's see what else we got let's see uh have tavaran citizen numbers increased since the better together

  13. 00:09:45

initiative that promotes tavares becoming citizens and voting uh we haven't uh we haven't explored the exact details of of that yet about whether the numbers gone up i think i think it would be a good place to go on uh to do another dispatch in the future that explores that i do think that uh that's the direction uh that things are going uh for the tavarian in relation to the uee i think with such cozy being elected a senator and with um kind of the just the resurgence of the the tavarin like within the wider uee culture that's definitely that's definitely how it's going and i also wouldn't be surprised with the war with the vanduul occurring a lot of that happening in

  14. 00:10:33

you know or near systems uh where you know elysium where where the tavares are originally from that uh they have now been a part of the ue long enough that they would be motivated to come to the defense sign up go into the go into the army in the navy and that is one of the ways you become a citizen so yeah i i think seeing an increase of uh tabarn presence and engagement in the empire is is definitely happening out there and is honestly something really cool i'm i'm looking forward to exploring you know as we as as we expand out the game uh because there's also another system which isn't technically in ue space it's called branagh and that's where the largest uh population of tavares are so there's even outside of the the population in the uee there are some tavares who have gone to this other system and are starting their own

  15. 00:11:20

culture there too so they might not be citizens but the cultural um influence of what they're doing there you might see start seeping into the ue in other ways too so yeah there's um a lot of fun to be had there and we're kind of laying these strings and we can't we can't wait to kind of start tying some of them together and and for for the world yeah let's let's follow up on that answer in the one before the uh it might come as a surprise to some folks that when when you name something galdering or when you set something up like the uh the the better together initiative that you don't just immediately carry that thread all the way to the end you know the the minute you come up with it uh why why is that i mean i i know why it is but let's talk let's talk about it uh

  16. 00:12:08

for the viewers why don't you just every time you come up with an idea why don't you just drill that idea into the ground and come up with every single facet right away well i i think part of it is the the hope that we want players to be able to experience it firsthand that story lines will be kind of developing while they're in the universe you know i mean again you know down the road we want to be able to start making these kind of have more direct influence on the actual players and what they're doing and stuff like that and it's basically if we were to introduce something and then resolve it purely in the fiction then it's not something that the players get to ever experience uh and you know we want to again the idea has always been to make this a living breathing growing universe so we want to allow for that growth you know uh

  17. 00:12:58

with the players so it's not just something that we're doing arbitrarily on our own and we're we're creating all the stuff that players are getting to experience that kind of in real time as well which is kind of fun i imagine there's got to be some aspect of time management too you create all you create a bunch of hooks and then see which ones resonate with the players which ones don't just like this and then you take the ones that resonate you know you take those ones you know further you don't just spend time you spend hours days weeks developing a thing and then watching it fall flat because not everything works yeah yeah and i mean in general it's also an extremely collaborative process here between you know the character team design and so we're we're also a part of a much bigger picture um and i know this is a metaphor that dave used a lot and i love to use is that is that this is

  18. 00:13:46

we're sculpting and when you when you're when you're sculpting you you're basically putting in the very rough base form first the big general idea and then you start to dig into the details and not all those details are coming from us so we we need to be able for that tavare and sediment on brano we need to let the you know teams go off and be like oh wouldn't it be really cool if their houses look like this or maybe they've evolved this way to give them the the breath to be able to add some of their personality and their vision to the game yeah there's also the yeah just just giving giving that little bit of uh of scope to kind of people put people in the right direction and then let them uh kind of like also help uh tell the story yes the gold arena also is a good example too because it's like yes we could have sat there and when we came up with the name been like all right it's a you know

  19. 00:14:33

eight-legged lizard-like thing that has huge claws and massive teeth and a stinger tail and all that stuff which would be fine but you know it's we kind of intentionally keep that stuff vague because you know once we have a creature designer you know an artist or a designer who are starting to actually build that creature you know we want them to have the freedom to be able to do what it is they want to do and satisfy whatever gameplay needs they need to have or combat things if it's supposed to be a a an enemy type animal or something like that and if we outline exactly all of these things we create an expectation that it is all of these things then they don't have as much freedom down the road to make it feel as fun or interesting or cool as it can be uh so so yeah yeah i was going to say you really kind of handcuff yourself you know if when if

  20. 00:15:21

you're if you're getting everything too much you know like that's exactly what jared was saying you know you don't want to find you have everything just really really locked in and then if something kind of doesn't work or if yeah design element is think something something else will be cooler or so yeah something in gameplay affects it right like that's like a huge part of this is like that this universe is a a living breathing kind of a thing even in alpha to some degree right so it's like you know it reacts and it and it and it does these things so it's and i think that's always been the idea with star citizen also like like mystery a bit of mystery is kind of fun because it's like stokes the imagination right like it's like you know in star like star wars to me gets less and less interesting the more stuff we know specifically about it you know and like and that's what you know the original stuff is cool because it kind of throws out all these vague ideas that really

  21. 00:16:09

stoke your imagination and you see things and you hear terms that don't necessarily have context and not everything would right in a real world like you would hear people talk about animals that you don't necessarily oh i've never seen that animal before i wonder what it looks like you know and or or whatever and i think that's really kind of fun and and some things we may never describe right you may never see one of these things out there in the wild it could just be something that that exists and you know somewhere off on a planet you'll never see or whatever and i think they're having little pockets of that stuff that give makes the universe feel bigger and also does just kind of stoke the imagination yeah possibilities leaving things open to possibilities leaving things open to the better idea down the road is essential in universal and it's actually one of the one of my favorite hallmarks of star citizen's development that we don't just

  22. 00:16:56

nail everything down and force everybody into a single track it's it's you know because as the team grows new people come in new ideas come in with those new people and oftentimes they can be better than what we would have come up with earlier so it's always a good idea to to leave things as loose and and as open to possibility as possible we've got a bunch of questions here from the chat here that are more like process oriented like how you guys work so let's let's let's go into that area here um let's start off broad here what is the current role of the lore team or they say the narrative team as it relates to star citizen and squadron 42's development uh do you spend time just creating missions writing stories developing scripts or story lines for squadron 42 and its sequels like like how

  23. 00:17:42

describe how your team works within the project i guess well it's a lot of naps no um yeah i mean i guess to break i mean both each of those games are have vastly different requirements as far as uh what we do on them i mean with with squadron you know the the storyline is a lot more locked down just as far as like what the missions are going to be doing so there's we're it's just basically kind of helping the the teams as as they're building on them and iterating on them and you know we'll do reviews as as levels are coming along and go does this need additional content how does it feel with the existing dialogue you know does has the mission changed where we have to showcase a new thing that the player needs to do that

  24. 00:18:29

maybe wasn't captured in the original line set stuff like that so it's a it can be a bit more of support stuff for that it's basically kind of be on hand to help uh with whatever's needed uh you know whatever team is working on whatever facet of the game they are at that particular time uh star citizen is a the persistent universe is a bit more of a a an open thing you know we'll work with the mission team when they're developing new mission types uh you know sit extensively with them as they're figuring out like what are the the line triggers or the events in the mission the mission flow basically to figure out like when we need to have a line when we don't um writing mission text uh i mean we've alluded to it earlier the item name description uh all that stuff

  25. 00:19:16

uh and then um we're even working with the sort of ai team as they're working on behaviors kind of similar what we're doing with the mission team we're like you know if we need to have dialogue what dialogue requirements do these characters have what makes sense uh you know what feels like too much or too little so it's and and then you know that's just the the active development stuff there's also developing the universe you know so we're still working with britain on languages iterating on those um anyone else jump in you could start throwing in tasks we've got a bunch uh i i love that you're even involved with things like graffiti like you don't really think about that as narrative being narrative driven but like yeah even even things as small as as graffiti on the walls kind of gets run by narrative like hey does this make sense would this be in this

  26. 00:20:04

area what would it say what would it look like it's really interesting to me yeah i mean like as i mentioned before too like we obviously interface with like teams that narrative teams don't traditionally interface with a lot like marketing and sales right like those are you know i mean those are because of the the unique nature of the way star citizen started and the way that like a lot of our our marketing initiatives are sort of baked into this like in lore kind of you know sort of semi semi-diegetic you know they walk a fun line there which you've been able to have some fun with over the years and because of that like there is a heavy narrative element to a lot of the the marketing stuff so you know like we said and even the the big things that like cross the line like intergalactic aerospace expo or invictus launch week where it's like technically a marketing

  27. 00:20:52

thing but that has this big in-game element that you can go and like interact with and stuff right which is which is pretty neat and like pretty different than like a lot of other live service games or whatever you want to call them out there you know so it's like and and and because it is very narratively focused it's not just the marketing thing that's like sort of divorced from from the lore and the and the larger storyline you know yeah and as uh as a narrative team we're we're somehow both an upstream and a downstream team so we can be involved on either side or both sides of a task and when it comes to managing all that having blyth be around and be able to track everything and run down people and be able to say no at certain points is is so vital to the process because again it's such a wide world and we are looped into so many

  28. 00:21:42

things so you know all her hard work and being able to track everything internally is is just you know a job in and of itself on a whole other level which blows my mind yeah one of the one of the neat things that i've observed here and the reason why i i i one of the reasons i liked interacting with your team so much is that everything hits narrative at some point if it's not at the beginning it's definitely five minutes before the end at least but but we do touches narrative it's at some point it's always it always comes back story in one way or or another and sometimes that can be reverse engineering like we really want to do this thing and now we need it we need to find a way for it to fit within the universe uh and then other times we want to do something

  29. 00:22:30

but we don't know what we want to do and then you know narrative is that spark that that you know that that's that starts the flame kind of thing but it's it is as mike said it's really important here that everything worked from a story perspective everything worked from a story perspective and it's it's it's one of my favorite aspects of working here at cig that said the next question leads into this here how close does the lore influence game play in star citizen should the things we read about be indicative of things we as players will eventually be able to do in-game yeah you know who wants to touch this i think it's going to be you dave yeah i mean again

  30. 00:23:17

in the in the early days of the of the project you know we were we would use that sort of the vagueness we were trying it was you know with with our dispatches we were doing a lot more stories back then uh you know as well as the news updates and stuff like that and and the idea was that it was trying to capture kind of the sense of what it was going to be like in the in the universe um that being said you know we we made a very conscious effort to not kind of what we're talking about with the the animals like get very specific about stuff so usually it as far as how how how much lore influences game plan stuff like that usually the lore starts as a launching place for the game play so they can kind of go what sort of established what's the kind

  31. 00:24:04

of the rough vibe of it but you know back in again back in the day like we we never we would have tavaran characters in stories but we never described what we maybe would make a light allusion to a physical feature of them are characteristic but we never were like they're six feet tall blah blah blah they have 85 tentacles you know none of that stuff uh because again you know it was about kind of capturing the feeling of it more than the the nuts and bolts of it so again you know the lore will usually work as kind of a launching pad to start discussions about new things but at the same time it still tries to be flexible enough where you know if if there's a gameplay reason do something they're not inhibited by lore so it's it's kind of a

  32. 00:24:53

give and take it sort of so it depends on the situation but i think laura is a lot like concept art in in in a way it's it's a it's a fan it's a fantastic exploration of ideas it's a it's a fantastic fleshing out of this is how this can work this is how you know that this is a a jumping off point for the game designers for the for the artists and stuff to leap from and sometimes it's a one-one sometimes it's it's what you which develop and lore ends up exactly you know in game or 99 in the game like just like it just like it matches with the concert part and then sometimes it deviates quite a bit you know look at how many variations the freelancer went through before we finally ended up where we were at so it's i don't think there's any hard rule

  33. 00:25:43

i think that's one of the reasons you struggle with the answering that question because there isn't just a hard and fast this is how it always is yes where it works yes and also the thing too like you you'll notice too in our stories and and fiction that we'll get more specific once the gameplay has come out because then it becomes a little bit more locked down so then we can kind of talk about kind of nuts and bolts stuff and and have it play factor a little bit more into the storyline uh but again you know to use the sculpting sketching analogy like the initially the lore is that kind of rough shape of it's vaguely kind of meant to be like this but it's still flexible enough where you're not locked into a specific form uh and so you can make adjustments is usually the the the approach we try to take but yeah like

  34. 00:26:30

jared said sometimes it's it can be you know the the gameplay kind of is lines up perfectly with what we've established and sometimes yeah we'll have to kind of go back and go all right well how can we make how can we sort of retcon the lore to fit with how the experience is actually going to be because ultimately that's kind of the thing is that this is something that people are going to be playing and doing yeah when you create so much so much you know dense lore again ahead like you said in early days before you know there was a lot of gameplay out there um you know clearly like with all this stuff with everything it's gonna things are gonna change right i mean as as game play con concessions are taken into account and as people get in there and actually start playing it and see what's fun and what's not fun and whatever you know i mean all that stuff is gonna change right so i think

  35. 00:27:18

obviously you'd be it's a fool's errand to like parse through all the lore and be like well in this thing they put a data card in this one machine and you can't do that in game and that's weird it's like okay like don't do that you know don't nitpick every little every little aspect of a of a thing but but but yeah i think you send all those complaints to mike concella that's true yes directly yeah please please please complain to me um but i think yeah i think it's it's very malleable but i like the concept art i never really thought of it that way jared but i like that that analogy it's kind of it's kind of cool and like and like dave was saying it's got like those those those first the first sketches of it right or early on or more vague and more like it might go this way it might go that way and as you kind of as it manifests in game you can kind of narrow it down and narrow it down until you've got like lore and stuff that matches really like you said one-to-one as opposed to being

  36. 00:28:06

more of a concept well one last process question then we'll get back into like the lore specific questions um how does the lord team tackle the enormous amount of work for the star citizen universe planets colonies cities food people clothes what do you want to offer us blythe um very carefully uh yeah it is a lot of work there's um dave is in meetings like 12 hours a day so i don't know how he writes anything outside of that but he still does it's fascinating um but we just there are a lot of meetings uh that we're involved in which is really cool and so you know we we kind of track in those meetings what's needed from us when it's needed um and then of course we have a system this is all very

  37. 00:28:55

boring i'm sure but we have a ticketing system where you know we track all of our work in there and you know we figure out when is it due when is it needed in the game all these things and then we create our priorities based on all of that and that's just a matter of going through all those tickets and figuring out like who can do this when when are they gonna have time to do it all those things and then just planning uh appropriately and uh that's pretty much a producer's job just figuring out what you can do and when um and just trying to wrangle as much as you can because there's just so much all the time um and you know we we do our best to get as much done as possible and [Music] hope that the i hope the community loves it

  38. 00:29:43

yeah and and and and dave won't bring it up but dave dave also is out there directing things like peak app shoots and stuff from time to time like like when we were just out there in europe last week the week before you were out there working with for pickups with the uh female player character for squadron 42. yes that's true a very busy person very very good good hamburgers we did have good hamburgers but we walked all over town before we got there let's see all right so back to some lower lower lower questions uh are we expecting to see some other major lore rewrites as we did with death of a spaceman was there a major lorry right with death of the spaceman uh yeah yeah the regen

  39. 00:30:34

yeah i mean again you know the kind of what we were talking just talking about before with the sort of what's the handoff between uh you know laura and and we were gamepl that cryptic approach and the vagueness in the beginning is to prevent us from having to retcon stuff uh you know it kind of creates a lot of a buffer and again a lot of flexibility for people to kind of design within that um but again you know occasionally you know what something comes up where we it we have to recon it but the hope is that we keep that to a minimum because you know the and actually to be fair the the regen thing actually isn't necessarily a

  40. 00:31:21

retcon because it's it hap it develops in sort of real time uh we wouldn't go back and say there was always this tech this tech sort of was unveiled you know three months six months ago or whenever it was uh you know in the universe so it's kind of a new thing so you know i mean adam wrote that great um far from home story about old jagger trying to reconcile the notion of being you know of regen technology you know what does that mean for a person and their sense of identity and their soul like kind of big heady questions which is really cool and so yeah having being able to have characters within the universe reacting to that dynamically has actually been a lot of fun uh but again hopefully you know there's never a situation where it's like

  41. 00:32:09

oh there are dragons now like you know that type of thing where it has to be a massive pivot um but you know so we we definitely want to try to keep that stuff to an absolute minimum just so people don't have to kind of relearn the setting but if you know if it happens you know and if you do want dragons and star citizen go to twitter and tag john crew [Laughter] specifically for writable dragons right i'm going to escalate this till neither one of us can never use our twitter ever again uh speaking of of the hard questions uh since banu style slaving and indentured servitude is part of the banu culture and the banu are allies with the uee does that mean that

  42. 00:32:59

the slaver suli is allowed to transport product through uee space to north banu space and along the southern uee regions bordering banning space come on adam yeah do it adam it's all you oh thank you uh that i mean that's a very detailed interesting question and i think something um where there could be a lot of interesting cool gameplay thing because yeah that uh i'm going to assume that would those type of contracts would violate the uee common laws which ue systems are supposed to uphold but as you've seen in stanton ue laws aren't always being completely upheld where they are so certain banu ships may be able to travel through certain parts of systems and uh you know maybe not run into any

  43. 00:33:48

interference and but they could be in big problems if they do it's uh it's going to be an interesting cultural question going going forward and i think that'll be you know it's also going to be the same with the xi'an as there's a there's a xi'an system in particular that is essentially run by gangs and when humans pass through it's like what's going on here why aren't why aren't they doing anything about this until you realize that in xi'an culture they've essentially authorized certain gangs to operate within that system so as a xi'an there's just these there's gonna be these cultural differences where from a uee perspective it's like that's not right that's not how we do things but xi'an space is different and they handle it certain ways and instead of saying all gangs are bad they say all right you few gangs go ahead you just do all your stuff here and we'll leave you alone so um i think that's what's going to be really cool and interesting for

  44. 00:34:37

the players to kind of go out there and and experience and and see what happens when they kind of brush up against these these these different cultures and different ways of uh of approaching things so um yeah of course we don't want to get uh you know lock ourselves into into something quite yet but um just by bringing up the the question itself you're realizing the the possibilities and the storytelling and game playing potential that comes from these kind of like uh fringe systems or just differences between uh between the species and game and and it might be one of those things too where it's the you know the based on whatever the interstellar trade accord that the humans worked out with the banu that maybe it's you know the the i mean the question specifically kind of called out the the

  45. 00:35:25

um slaves like maybe they're not allowed do business inside uee space because it does violate the common laws and that type of thing so maybe they don't venture into uee space and they kind of stay in banu territory and stuff like that so yeah there's a lot of opportunities for us to kind of play with that because yeah it raises really weird difficult questions from the uae's perspective of how do they deal with you know that facet of of banu culture that they certainly don't agree with so yeah definitely i mean it's a great question i mean it's a great thing to bring up because it brings up all these like it's sort of like we were saying we sparked you know the lore sparks things in y'all and y'all spark things in the lore sometimes so it's like you know it's like nice to like throw it back once a while it's like oh yeah how would you like i thought of that like yeah how

  46. 00:36:13

would they deal with that like it's an interesting question like against sort of political economic question for the future and i'm willing to bet that when the time comes that question needs to be addressed you know when we've got you know abandoned ships flying through and multiple systems like that i'm willing to bet that people on the lower team will have differing opinions and and it will be interesting to see where that lands is there a consistent storyline or our overarching theme the team is working towards for the game lore or is it the approach or is their approach a lot more granular or on an event base or case decay space or this might be the the kind of roman influence maybe is that what they're talking about there

  47. 00:37:00

i'm not sure is there a consistent storyline an overarching theme to the entire persistent universe i mean yes that there's ultimately going to be one i mean again right now with sort of as we kind of talked about it earlier with the the um one of the earlier questions the we're still building the foundational mission stuff so i sort of the expectation is that once that's kind of in place we can start you know start enacting these sort of larger narrative things but you know not to no spoilers but like they're the the conversation has been going on of like because we're live when do we want to start introducing these larger things and we've been doing it with you know in the xeno threat stuff that in satin and you know alluding to it in in some of

  48. 00:37:48

the dialogues with other stuff and so there's they're definitely threads that we've been laying down it's just a question of like kind of when we want to start moving that progression forward is sort the question at the moment so uh but yes the the the hope is that i mean again there's there'll be sort of one large there's a large thematic uh conceit that's sort of guiding the universe but again this is you know the the systems are all going to have their own little storylines going on as well like stan is currently locked in one where they're it's becoming this huge question about they the crime is firing out of control how do you know is the uee supposed to step in the the corporations who on the planets are supposed to be managing this stuff but they're not really doing a great job so the uee is like do we interfere and da

  49. 00:38:36

da da so you know that's the story line within stan is is kind of in motion as well but yeah the hope is that we as we kind of refine more of this stuff and and get it in we can start kind of kicking off these sort of larger more sweeping story lines and stuff like that i got a follow-up from the chat here uh wardrake117 as is hurston dynamics paid off by the arlington gang that seemed to get scanned way too much in the idris stolen by arlington gained missions please clarify uh no comment i don't speak for hurston dynamics security all right fair enough um do the vanduul exist anymore we've neither seen them in squadron 42 or the

  50. 00:39:24

pu are they still a thing to be feared 242's not out yet of course you haven't seen them yeah i want to know how this guy got a copy of school i was going to say or this person so how do you answer the question do the vanduul exist anymore they out there they're out there okay yeah i think a recent lore hasn't focused on them as much because we have been focusing more on the the stuff that done stanton and the stuff that you guys are experiencing in game and getting able to to to play and be there with um but they're definitely still there um and there's there's also ideas that we want to make sure we uh we don't get a get

  51. 00:40:14

ahead of so as dave was saying it's kind of like yeah we we do have ideas we do have we do have plans but um yeah we want to make sure that you're able to experience those uh in-game and not just basically hear them secondhand from us we don't want to over expose them before yeah the the they experience them in squadron yeah yeah they won't be as scary like aliens you know it's like an alien you don't want to show the suit too quick the suit's dope but you don't want to show it too quick what would it take to get on the lord pies uh commitment to excellence and uh being too much of a perfectionist willie

  52. 00:41:02

a willingness to degrade yourself no i don't know that's more likely 20 push-ups you know i don't know it's any number of things or i'm just describing how i got on the lore team today we still don't know how you got on our team mike they definitely didn't ask me first he was grandfathered in he was already in before we put in stringent rules yeah exactly that's it i got in just before the cutoff uh what is the lore for moby glass being the only competitor uh in the in the in the what would be the future smartphone market why is it all mobile glass all the time did they win was there a major smart uh smartphone bat or the mobi glass one are they the only manufacturer out there uh i mean we sort of alluded to others

  53. 00:41:51

out there i think it's just it's they've become kind of you know the xerox uh again you know there's that sort of anything that we mentioned that you want to see in game has to be has to go through a lot more teams it's easy to kind of sit and talk about something it's another thing to to represent it in game because you have to get art and animation and you know design and all the all the fast the technical aspects of it to get it in game so it's i i would expect that there are still competitors out there i think just you know uh microtech kind of found the the right design at the right time and has been iterating on it and probably scooping up any competitors that come up with really compelling ideas and absorbing them into moby glass

  54. 00:42:39

to kind of maintain their stranglehold on the market be my guest but would it be possible to have a show this question for me it would be possible to have a show that is a dramatic reading of the various serialized fiction stories posted on the website there's a bunch of people out there that do that kind of stuff already isn't there yeah there's um we do have a great community that that already uh goes forward and uh we'll we'll read some of the the short stories um and the serialized fiction pieces we have um put them up online i know there's there's a handful that i've that i've come across you know either that have just been sent to the lore team or um you know when i first started years and

  55. 00:43:28

years and years ago i think someone had basically made an audio book i think it was of cassandra's tears too so i i'd already previously read it before joining the company but within the first like few months of me being here like i was listening to that audiobook too just to kind of get my my head into the headspace so i found that very very helpful um i i believe uh yeah people are doing also people doing translations of them i just actually got a message on spectrum about um uh one uh by uh astro sam i think who's doing did a german reading of cassandra's tears there was star citizen news radio back in the day i know had done like lost generation and a couple of other ones that they're there's a yeah the community's been great about sort of not only doing just dramatic readings of

  56. 00:44:16

it in english but doing it in a variety of languages so people can you know you know appreciate it around the world which is great yeah it's worth noting when they ask if we can do a show i think it was actually at the beginning this is says to to jared so i realized i didn't realize until halfway through it was directed to me um we we we generally try to avoid making content that steps on the content that our community is already making like over the years we we've thought about we thought about just like this question or or series is that do you know recaps of all the lore like uh like astro pub does uh already um and it's just oftentimes the community is out there putting in tremendous time tremendous

  57. 00:45:06

resources tremendous effort to doing these things and and many of them are downright professional quality already you should absolutely not be dismissing them just because they're fan uh created it just based the questions like why would why should we spend our time and our money to take a thing away from the from from these community members to give to these community members when there's already being done so it's not just that we won't ever do something it's not to say that there won't ever be an audio drama or something like that i'm not going to sit here and just take that off the table right now but often times one of the questions that we ask ourselves before we do anything is is it something the community is already doing and is the community already doing it uh quite frankly better than we have

  58. 00:45:55

the time or resources or or money to put towards and when the answer is yes we usually back off of that stuff and leave it to the purview of the community uh it's a it's a great way to it's just a it's a great way to showcase this uh symbiotic nature of of the the community and the developers and throughout star citizen yeah again let me just shout out uh meyer uh too who on youtube has has read uh dynstar and one good deed uh uh great star citizen streamer just in general but if you're into into the war also he's got those up on his youtube page so go go check them out and uh yeah um yeah it it's always it's always wonderful to see stuff like that come through to see people responding to the material and wanting to share it another way because i know

  59. 00:46:42

maybe english isn't a first language or you know some people just don't like to read or it's just better to have it in an audio format so we do really appreciate whenever uh the community steps in and is able to provide the content in a different context for us so thanks yeah at some point i'll do some kind of cheesy audio thing it'll probably be an original thing can you imagine uh in regards to artificial gravity uh oh we had a couple we had a few questions about artificial gravity in the thread didn't we uh you mentioned you might be renaming the subatomic particle uh gravitons uh have you done so and if so what's the new name did we do that is it still gravitons at

  60. 00:47:30

the moment can we do that i don't think we did i don't remember i have to look into that adam do you remember offhand not not off the top of my head whether whether anything official was uh was settled upon uh so for the time being we'll say it's still gravitons until we say differently yeah should i make a jira task for that i'm gonna pitch huckabee's we'll call him huckabees absolutely not okay i'm into that i like that um i already freaked out when i realized the name was on the list of npc names um i think i think we're all a part of that yeah there's a giant database spreadsheet built for that first names and last names yes and i got i got a text from my dad at like three o'clock

  61. 00:48:18

in the morning uh it was just a distant relative with a screenshot of an npc that he encountered in the game and i'm like yeah i just wanna i will's not joining us today but i wanna shout him out for creating that giant giant spreadsheet of and he pulled names from all over the place um and basically built this giant spreadsheet which were able to put first names and last names and nick's names all all together and you see that in game and honestly when i whenever i write characters now for any of our stories i don't spend any time thinking about them i just go to that thing and i just refresh and whatever names pop up there that's the name for the character in the story because it's just uh it's it's it's wonderful it's it's it's really really great so what is this question in lore we all know that pico is the

  62. 00:49:07

dark ultimate lord of pvp uh can we get something actually reflects his rule over the lesser finley crusader whale and then there's a giant hail pico afterwards believe to clarify pvp is penguin versus penguin right that's just this is the plushie versus plushie this is clearly uh this is clearly a baiting question to try to get the lord team to pick a side in this debate uh i'm i'm i'm not gonna pick i'm not gonna fall for it i'm gonna go switzerland on this one yeah we got it for sure wow i can't believe mike you were so strong on one side of this and previously and now hey let's not let's not go there you know what i you know i may feel

  63. 00:49:54

strongly but i don't i don't i don't take no guff i don't take no bait from the community i like them i like them both yeah they're both good they're both i mean you got it you got your flying whale you got your snowboarding penguin they're both i mean you know so so nobody here is willing to go on record that's one of the ways i'll go team finley the storm wall absolutely i i i like my pico but uh give me giant uh giant space no i i did okay adam spilled the beans the official thing is that finley is way cooler than pico like that's like let's be honest like here like pico everybody you know everything's it's all about pico that's just because you love those 80s like skeen movies that's why yeah like ski patrol or whatever yeah totally yeah that's pico does definitely that now that makes me want to do like a like if you go in finley like in an 80s

  64. 00:50:43

ski comedy like that would be it that would be really good on vacation it's like their week off from being mascot so they they go to microtech and that's their week off from plushie versus people i mean it would have to be they were rivals at first and then they'd become tacit allies yeah like yeah like they'd team up to defeat the hurston horrible mascot or whatever that would be they're both doing a snowboarding competition and their rivals at first but then they find out that hurston's rigging it so they team up to yeah exactly i mean because clearly like like like like uh i feel like pico is like the bro he's like that you know he's like sort of the villainous character at the beginning you know he's got and finley is like the the big innocent yeah like he's like kind of awkward he's a new kid you know he's like but he's gotta live a little bit more so yeah yeah yeah exactly and and like and

  65. 00:51:31

pico's like a little you know pico's just he owns the slopes and he knows it you know and uh but they end up teaching each other something by the end of the day exactly yeah yeah that works so can i can i just call out someone in chat has basically called up life and been like is this what herding cats is like for absolutely yes there's a reason yeah when we have meetings like they're always run by a producer this is why this is exactly why it will it was true the show started a few minutes late because we were talking lord of the rings and just were kind of like in the middle and jared's like uh guys can we get started specifically rank and bass lord of the rings you know like the anime not ralph bakshi not peter jackson don't give me that in garbage i can bass all day shots fired up peter jackson yeah there

  66. 00:52:21

are opinions on this team i love it over here all right back to this serious conversation for what reason does the banu merchantman need different species bathrooms the show's done talking about yourself everybody poops jared that's true don't run from here yeah it's so they can be accommodating yeah yeah this is our show now oh we left oh sweet finally all right so let's talk about michael keaton and dopesick let's really get into it okay finally yes okay okay good good so wait mike seriously uh sorry we'll get back to dopestick but so mike are you andy rotoscoping when it comes to the

  67. 00:53:08

lord of the rings because that's the ralph bakshi stuff right i actually prefer the ralph back things but i was just being silly but um but i love the rotoscoping and i think that i think like 40 minutes of like orcs charging is cool you know like i think that's that's you know trippy and it's dope yeah it's certainly yeah i remember seeing it as a kid and being a little weirded out by it but i wasn't sure why it's definitely like psychedelic and has that vibe to it which is yeah it definitely just disconcerted me as child i was much more into the rank and bass but upon i'm really surprised that you all are opting to talk about lord of the rings and not like the bathroom situation for aliens well i mean that's there's not much to talk about it's like the bad big aliens poop and they need bathrooms and they have them on a merchant and we don't

  68. 00:53:54

have enough time anymore we only have like five minutes left in the show we've got a good habit there's a lot of kids in the cover there's a lot of yeah yeah yeah true it's a great yeah we haven't talked to hope all right so we'll set up another meeting to talk about this in the future cool oh and mike someone just asked what build you're playing in eldon ring or what build oh i'm a i'm a wretch uh i've got a big a big great sword i pumped up my strength to 16. still naked though no armor um currently dying on the first boss so that's my elden ring update for a few guys that are playing it's good stuff yeah yeah oh jared's back oh [ __ ] oh am i not supposed to swear on this i'm sorry that's your one oh that sounds right i get one nice this is my version of a clown mask i don't have a mr rogers clown mask to put on

  69. 00:54:41

so this is so the fan who are very accommodating and they once they once they find uh something that works a design that works they just stick with it and they keep it in there and they know they want to sell their ships to other species so they they found out what the optimal human bathroom setup is and they are at least in their mind and they put it in and for them that that's what sells and also it's a ship that that's meant to open to the public because you know that it has like the sort of marketplace aspect to it so people are born yeah you might need to open those up to your customers right so if you're if you're in even though if you're bonu or human if you're in xi'an space and you know you have a bunch of xi'an's coming on board to buy your your slaves or whatever then you gotta then you know they need then they need to poop because they get excited when they are buying stuff from you

  70. 00:55:29

right that's why that's that's the answer i actually ran over my uh earpiece wire doing all that so i can't actually hear what any of you are saying oh actually it's not this is great we can sneak in so many more swears now you guys here here here we got time for one more question why should we bother with the lore as it's mostly all subject to change if it needs to fit gameplay they're questioning our they're questioning our existence rightly so yeah i mean you guys just making all this crap up anyway

  71. 00:56:19

if we get too many more these questions are going to fade away like back to the future every one of us should just should just with that question every one of us should just roll the lord team ever really everybody every one of us should just roll off his name it's a real question it was actually in the thread i hit a snag i ran over my back grim looks very confused like grim is the only result the only thing that remains everybody forever the lord team is not just one small dog one star citizen confirmed this head is too small for my head that's what your master is great would
