Hello everybody welcome to another episode of Star of Citizen live I'm your host Jared Huckabee I heard somebody's phone vibrate I heard it welcome to the show uh it is Friday October what is it 28th uh 2022. uh we are here broadcasting from the only constant uh if you've never seen Star Citizen live before it's where we take about an hour out of the end of our week and we hang out with some of our developers who are help making uh one of our two uh tremendous games that are currently in development Star Citizen in Squadron 42 on the show this week we've got members from the mission feature team up first and then uh we're going to a member of the EU sandbox 2 team is that right sandbox 2 Team see he's naughty the sandbox 2 Team

  2. 00:00:54

uh in the back half so strap on in we got we got a lot of cool stuff to talk about uh before we get started I want to remind folks that inside Star Citizen came back uh yesterday uh if you haven't had a chance to check that out on YouTube be sure you take a look at that uh it's the first show from inside our new uh Manchester Studios uh here in Enterprise City in the center in the heart of downtown Manchester um we'll be showing a little bit of the new office here and there it's still under construction not all the floors are open and everything we want to we want to wait until uh the whole thing is is ready and really make a big impact but we'll see what we can sneak in here and there along the way uh during Insight Star Citizen we met with John Griffis from the EU sandbox 2 team and he took us on a tour of the new

  3. 00:01:44

underground facilities the planning stages where you show we showed a wonderful soft software called Miro that is used to basically plot out the full scope of work for all of the designers and the artists and the tech artists and stuff that are on the various teams working on this stuff and then we went over to our own Sylvan Howell engine programmer 3. we left the three off of his title and he was very much like my three away so Sylvan engine programmer three apologies from our Frankfurt Studio as he took us on a tour of the current state of the Gen 12 renderer which will basically yield all manner of performance improvements in Alpha 318 and Beyond so definitely want to check that out if you haven't already but let's move on to today so on today's

  4. 00:02:32

show we are starting with two members from the esteemed Mission feature team we've got Elliot and Max Elliott Max how you doing guys yeah I'm all right yeah good welcome to the only constant now you've been here before you were you were here for the citizen on filming yep I'm on a much better chair now though yeah we did have you on a little weird little stool with no buck no back it's to keep it's to help with your posture as if you saw that video my posture was not good these chairs while incredibly comfortable are also not good for your posture I think everybody who sits in these chairs for a while ends up like slowly slouching down the hope I just moved my desk it's like it's not good it's not good so watch out for that during the show um max this is your first time yep your first time how you doing I'm good I'm excited it's like very nice spaceship

  5. 00:03:20

this is your first time on the live show too yeah it was I was on an ISC a few weeks ago um talking about what we'll be talking about today but yeah okay but you've never done the live show before so no I'm not a are you nervous um a little bit I mean literally anything can happen I've live streamed before so it's all right oh okay well never mind then all right you want to change chairs no no no all right so uh we're happy on because at citizencon uh which was on October 8th and you can watch these presentations that we're talking about on uh our YouTube channel uh Elliot you're part of a presentation on about a new Mission type called investigations uh with that moves away from the cargo and trading missions moves away from the combat missions that

  6. 00:04:08

we have and attempts to move the gameplay of the Precision Universe towards a well how would you explain it um it's um so when when we're building stuff and because of the scale of this game we try to build things very modularly and because we build really modularly it means there can't be a lot of story injected into it because injecting story and stuff is very difficult so this is our way of looking not only at trying to build something modular but also trying to inject heavy amounts of story in it to really bring the Pu to life okay um so right off the bat I'm going to ask why investigations of all the things that we could be doing to inject story that was the ultimate goal why why

  7. 00:04:58

mystery like why not uh science fantasy or wine or why not a science western or whatever what what about investigations drove us there so investigations uh the tech that is there for them like already exists so a lot of this we can push ourselves in in mft and what that means is we can leave other teams alone to do their stuff without us constantly bugging them for a little bit of this a little bit and that because all the fundamentals are there so it's something that mft can sort of own and just push all the way and you know without bugging anyone doing anything and you know it's also quite a fun fun thing to do you know having an investigation letting people think come up with their own answers potentially talk about it have different answers I

  8. 00:05:48

think it's just a fun game mode I appreciate the Candor in that answer uh basically it it's if you if we wanted to do something else it would require more people from outside the team and stuff like this and and you wanted to you wanted to tackle a task that could be relatively self-contained within mft yes so so that led us to investigations were there other uh were there other avenues that you guys considered before invest before landing on investigations there was a few other things that you know we have this sort of I guess list of things we'd like to do um but we kind of landed on investigations it was one of the things I want to push is you know on my Siege video I said I don't like hand-holding um and investigations are very much non-hand holding so it's you know right up my alley now we're going to talk

  9. 00:06:36

about that in a minute how does the division of labor work because you just said you know you want you want something that's going to that you can do internally without the need for a lot of external help but is all of the mission feature team now working on this and we're not going to get any other missions for the game like describe to me the scope of work here so no investigations is uh you know uh purely me making uh as in the technical part of making it um along with an engineer um one of our coders um all our other designers on mft are working on other exciting things like Max here is also doing something else and we'll continue to while I build these investigations but um you know sort of the other sort of divisioning up of the work there's potentially some

  10. 00:07:24

work on like say the props team for certain things we might need but a lot of a lot of heavy work sort of on the narrative side because like I said in the the sales and con investigation at its core is a story so how a stock scope a stock scale here is are we talking about a new profession here are we talking about a new way of life or are we you know we've got people who want to be cargo haulers we got people who want to be mercenaries or bounty hunters and stuff like this are are we are we are we intending to push this to the point where there will be Sherlock Holmes's and and or Columbo's like this is what I do in in in the verse or is this a a happy diversion here and there what what are our intentions here

  11. 00:08:12

I think like happy diversion I it's I don't think it's something you can do full time it's because you know we don't want you to constantly repeat the same old story because you're going to know the answers it's not going to be fun and engaging so because the story is the key to it we have to make sure that you know we're constantly putting out sort of new content and the system we're hoping to create will hopefully allow us to get in a Groove and pump some out pretty quickly and constantly which will hopefully satisfy that sort of Pi lifestyle but it will also be just sort of like um your log on one day and then oh I've got a couple of like investigation things I can do but you'll never try it you'll never do the same one twice you say that but you know backers are are always players and backers are always going to

  12. 00:09:00

push things where they want to push things it's I think once you give them a little bit of this they're going to start taking things in their own ways Stephen gamer in the chat is already talking about the pinkertons making a comeback you know you know there's going to be a player or you know based on pigeons and what you know detective agency and stuff even even beyond the missions that you create it's like that it's going to inspire folks to to a new kind of lifestyle zone yeah um you mentioned difficulty so let's talk about that there is always an eternal debate and this is this is with any game this isn't just exclusively to Star Citizen but there's also always this debate about how challenging or or how much hand-holding uh should be done I know in Siege uh which you know came

  13. 00:09:48

on the last patch there was some uh there was some hemming and hawing I think within the community about how uh brutal some of the uh uh hand holding wasn't if that makes sense that's probably not the best way to say it uh we didn't exactly spell everything out for folks which was intentional yes uh talk to me about about this and and how we balance this because I know at your point of view okay you can tell us what your point of view is but you know tell the people speak to the people and tell them what Elliot's point of view on the difficulty is for investigations of Siege no for for anything okay so when it came to Siege um I kind of wanted to sort of put you in a sandbox and give you tools and then hope that you figure out how to

  14. 00:10:37

use the tools to achieve a goal um so we started off with and again this is one of the good things about having this sort of iterative development is we can try something and then hone it in over the course and that's what we did with sieges we put out the first version We collected a bunch of feedback from players and we saw that okay some people didn't like that so the majority didn't like that okay so we're gonna just hone it in a bit and not just go back to our complete old ways of marking everything or doing this or doing that just sort of go okay well we'll help here a little bit and we'll help here a bit and then see how that is when it comes to investigation I feel like the we'd be doing sort of disservice to the career path to the sort of the gameplay there if I was to help out loads so essentially you'll get a marker to tell you where to go for the rest of the

  15. 00:11:24

story from there on you'll have to figure out yourself we'll give some sort of you know maybe like a synopsis of a clue you found to help you sort of understand what you're reading if if you need it but it should be on you to sort of go okay I found this piece of clue so now I think I need to go do this without me going right you found this here's a timer time is finished Mark the item out in the world I'd rather you feel like an investigator and find the item because we have like it's there is sort of like a natural level of a cap for like say ability you know when you're playing combat based missions we don't exactly make them easier you'll hit a point where you're like right I can't do this anymore like I don't have maybe the ship that I can battle against this other ship with or I

  16. 00:12:13

don't have you know the personal pilot skill I I can't play my balance I've made the bounty system I can't play it um so you know you have that sort of natural skill level and I think that's a part of a good part of the game is that you can go well I'm you know I'm at the super rank of being a bounty hunter I'm the best of the best and then some other person can be well I've solved every single investigation and that Bounty Hunter could go I've I've tried one and I can't figure it out sort of thing when and Max would be interested in hearing your opinion on this continuing the the difficulty thing there are people who obviously jump in and play the game for hours and hours and hours uh Chris talked to sizzling on about the average you know a daily playtime you know skyrocketing in 2022 compared to

  17. 00:13:01

2021 and 2020. that said there are also those people who can only jump in and play for an hour a night you know it it it's it's a casual Pursuit and such like this how do you balance the difficulty of something not just investigations but Siege and everything for people who can't dump five six hours into a PlayStation a new play session you don't want to leave the the the the the for lack of a better term the filthy casuals I hate that term but you don't want to leave you don't want to leave those people out so how do you balance this yeah I think it's it's definitely like a challenge um especially in our game when you can go and essentially choose to do whatever you want to do with your time so sometimes even those players who play

  18. 00:13:49

for a long period of time only have two hours on the day right and they want to hop in and get something done um and for us when we're looking at balancing things around that um it's very hard to please everybody in every scenario and I think Siege is a great example where perhaps the players wouldn't wouldn't have seen us do this but internally we saw we did lots of play testing and lots of changes to markers or information provided and and sort of try to find a happy medium between making it too obvious what you need to do and too difficult to find out what you need to do we need to that was definitely a time at least for me where I got to go through that iteration process and and see what that is like um but for the for the rest of the

  19. 00:14:37

outside of Siege and big events like that you know uh we sort of need markers and that in the game I think at the moment with the with the way it is currently but I think everybody wants it to be phased out less and less or maybe even find an alternative to things like markers you know giving players information through text and them having to decipher what that means and then perhaps when you get closer you get a marker you know there's loads of ideas loads of things we could eventually switch it to um but I think for now uh markers might need to stay around for the foreseeable future at the very least until we get a compass yeah hey UI people I'm gonna get a letter all right so uh following following up on uh the the

  20. 00:15:28

difficulty thing uh one of the one of the things that's going into 318 we've been talking about Siege quite a bit is there are new missions going in on the platforms that run when Siege aren't running kind of like a not a Siege light but you know a smaller more digestible version of that experience that doesn't go on for a while talk to us about talk to me about those missions yeah so those missions are made by yorit uh one of our sort of uh he joined us for um just as we started Siege and he helped us on the level design he built some of the some of the environments and then his first foray into building an actual you know his own type of mission and stuff is to go into these Siege islands and take sort of like the existing modular sort of eliminate all at bunkers and expand them so to do more in The Siege islands and you know make them more usable

  21. 00:16:17

across across these sort of Scopes so what we've done in again is something we saw in Siegel eyes when people would play it they'd be playing in uh fire teams like um for example forced and the system designer doing whole scraping he's he's all completed Siege in 12 minutes so they are very organized which I was very you know I designed it to be like you know an hour and he comes in he's like I did in 12 minutes I'm like great um but yeah so we we saw a lot of people like banding together and strategically moving through areas and you know a lot of good comes and sort of military Styles uh play through so what we wanted to do is we wanted to kind of enable that by say for example in one of the missions is this island is sort of semi-taken over there are three

  22. 00:17:06

buildings that are currently inhabited with uh nine tails and you're tasked with sort of getting them out and it allows you to say maybe split into two different fire teams to communicate through I'm like building a I'm in Building B I'm moving through like one left one left you know but it also allows for that sort of thing that the ugf lacked which is multiple entry points you could get the shuttle from orison to these islands and go walk all the way there with your friends you could take a ship and land on the roof and infiltrate and go down you could take ship and land on the ground floor if you wanted to take a elevator up um but it kind of allows for you know a new FPS area to fight in and more coordination from the players uh through more enemies to kill and along with that coming in 318 are the Gen 12 renderer

  23. 00:17:57

improvements that we talked about on ISC yesterday and hopefully that'll improve the uh the FPS performance on and when doing these missions on Oregon I'm just hitting all the check marks today aren't I um so what what else is the mission feature team working on uh for 318 uh well we have some big changes coming to Korea the um someone on our team called Lars is working on um big changes to the the world as well in terms of crime as a whole sort of the lower ranked crimes that you'll be you'll be receiving will be able to be paid off and won't cause you to go to prison but those uh if you do manage to get yourself into those higher crime stats so cram start free or above you're gonna be uh faced with a much bigger challenge now uh much less places

  24. 00:18:46

to uh clear yourself free of crimes uh Korea will become a big hot spot for a PVP hopefully in in this patch and we will see a change back to to the past I believe where where it was similar to this and um it's going to be really interesting to see the overall feedback from the community about what it's like funneling everybody into this dedicated area whether it helps the PVE players as well as the PVP players because they sort of separate them out or maybe PVP players are more focused in one area but you know there's lots of data for us to grab from when the patch first drops and all these changes come in um and uh I don't know as much about the specifics of the mission as Elia does so maybe you can get some insight on that so is hopefully it's going to be a sort of

  25. 00:19:34

player um I just as well so I just call Instagram my eye Las is actually in the chat I just saw a message I thought it's called poet poet so yeah that's Lars um so just I just dots right no Lars actually is okay with being known as a Dev because he isn't in uh Mike's chat yeah and other people's chats so sorry a lot if you didn't want to vote there you go so yeah it's hopefully a sort of a player run systemic thing so you as the player can go and actually cause this event to yourself you you can control when it runs you can control well see you can control how it runs for you can control as long as you can survive how long it runs for um but alongside this it came with sort of I guess a a needed uh rebalance overhaul to our law system

  26. 00:20:24

and how we do crimes and how much we award for crimes how long it takes to sort of get rid of crimes um where you can land with crimes you can now land everywhere with uh with the cs102 which you couldn't originally do the fine kiosks that we have around the verse you can surrender at and it will give you that sort of like 20 discount off of your time uh which means you don't have to go do like death by cop in a ship oh yeah yeah I think that I think the crime Stat one two changes are probably two of the single biggest quality of life changes that we've put in it's a simple thing but but the amount of times you get you know you bump somebody or you get bumped or whatever and you end up with a crime stat winner too and now half your Landing zones are gone and it's like this it's a pain in the butt

  27. 00:21:12

so that change alone I think is going to make a lot of improvements um what else is coming in 318 we so we've got we've got the new Korea stuff we've got uh the New Missions that are going on to The Siege platforms when Siege isn't running uh we'll talk about the the prison stuff in a minute anything else coming in 318 um I'm trying to think if there's anything else there's there's a couple of other bits and Bobs I think we'll work on um but I guess they're sort of uh sort of tentative we want to make sure that they are ready before we put them out um I'm not even sure if I'm if I'm if I'm good to talk about them what is it oh god um just tell me right now we're working on another another mission uh for the sort of see The Siege islands that will involve uh actually an entire

  28. 00:22:00

Island sort of being taken over and the players having to do multiple things on the island to finish the mission okay so no guarantee that it's coming for 318 just it's it's one of the things one of the things that's happened is as you know for unless you may not be aware 318 was originally scheduled to come out you know towards the end of September the beginning of October it has now been pushed out uh currently scheduled for December 8th I think and along with that time that's you know the devs haven't stopped working they're not just you know oh you know the stuff that was in 318 is now still the stuff that they're looking to add as much stuff that's part of our staggered continuous development it's basically it's all we're still working on this step so if this comes available if this becomes ready in time

  29. 00:22:48

then it will be included when 318 branches I'd say uh one thing that they get uh put in that I'd like to mention uh it was a personal pet peeve of mine uh but in the next release now when you go so whenever I play and I go to a sort of a platinum Bay and I landed at Platinum Bay and I'm presented a list and I'm on my Dev account so I've got like all the ships and I can see every single ship and I don't know which ones I can spawn uh We've now made it so that you when you're at the planning Bay you'll only see ships that you can actually spawn at that location that actually fit the size that was one of my sort of pet peeves that I asked to put a task in for and we we got around to it so that's something I'm proud of it's huge I see someone pulling finally so yeah not just me and uh I'm being told that I actually

  30. 00:23:40

have no idea what the date is so I don't know where I got that date from but don't don't take like I said we don't talk dates I shouldn't have even tried uh so don't take uh don't don't take that one too seriously uh yeah I'm being yelled at in the chat it's we I don't know the date all right so uh let's jump back to investigations a little bit a lot of it's going to have to you know the the communication the the clues the the interactions with things it's it seems like it's going to be very heavily affected by Moby glass yeah at citizengon we saw a whole new Moby glass on the horizon you don't get to wait until the new movie glass is here before you start designing investigations right now uh does this

  31. 00:24:28

mean that everything that you're going to build right now or building along the way is going to have to be redone when the new Moby glass comes no so we have to design for both um currently we have a design for how to sort of awkwardly use our current mobiglap to ensure that we can give all the information to the players that they do need to see however we also are you know involved in the new Moby glass in the the new contracts manager we're doing and with that we can sort of mold it for our needs as well because obviously the mission team the contract manager is pretty much used for us so we can sort of mold it and see how it fits and make sure that we have all the information and styles that we we need so we have considerations for both kind of yeah and then uh I saw during

  32. 00:25:19

the this always happens no matter how many times we put work in progress or anything on there during the uh presentation uh there were there were a number of comments on spectrum and in the YouTube comments uh about oh it was like only fifteen thousand but it's only 50 000 credits for for doing this man like that's it yeah it's it's like hold on let's go to my camera I'm gonna do it he goes the first thing we work out is not the mission reward the mission reward is literally one of the last things that gets worked out so whenever you're watching uh ISC or scl or citizencon or anything you see uh that's only paying out this or it sends you to this number if you're looking at any numbers in any of the any numbers whatsoever in the in the uh uh the new underground facility segment that we heard uh yesterday when

  33. 00:26:07

you talk about the number of designers and stuff if it's numbers it's all work in progress It's just thrown in there as we're working out the the demonstration of stuff uh please do not ever take those numbers uh seriously they're about as reliable as December 8th yeah I mean well well I don't even know what day of the week December 8th is like where did Heck what I can add to that is when we're like this is I mean it's probably on me because I'm lazy we have how we build missions is via a record and that has I think something like a 140 fields and there's a bunch that have to be filled in for it to be able to work so when I'm doing what's known as a dirty prototype which is me just mocking it up in the most you know horrible way before like is a proof of concept before we move on to the actual one I duplicate an already existing Mission record so it takes all

  34. 00:26:56

of their values across so I think I I duplicate like an easy eliminate all Mission which was 15 000 and I saw around the YouTube comments people like I'm not doing this for 15 000 I'm gonna spend hours trying to figure this out and never do it I'm like it's not 15 I haven't touched any of that stuff uh Chad is telling me that December 8th is a Thursday so yeah so I at this point we're probably we've been specking out that week's ISC so that's why that's in my head uh let's see what else we got have you guys talked to uh you know this investigation stuff if you guys talk to character art at all about getting some detective style clothing done like a 30th Century version of Sherlock's whatever that book was ready right we have a monocooling game is monocle inherently an A detective all you need

  35. 00:27:44

is a magnifying glass right smoke yeah a nice colombo-esque Duster no no talks with Community well you could do the thing you did say UI and look in the camera and ask them for it if you want all right hey hey character art hey Damien uh from uh turbulent uh let's get some detective style clothes in to support uh investigations and I'm just burning every bridge I got right all right so uh so before we let you go we got you we got you on the show uh recently uh when I say recently I think it was just last week or was it this week uh this week uh you you had your uh go no go for a new uh a way to remove crime stat a special mission that we've hinted at

  36. 00:28:34

in ISC a a new way to escape prison and wipe your crime stat without having to go to uh Korea how'd that go no go go well it went it went great um finally uh it took a few tries but we got it that we got it through um yeah so the idea was we we felt like the prisons had um gone through quite a long period of um not very many changes and it was definitely an area of gameplay that most players will encounter at least at some point um so more than others yeah so more than of us for sure so we we wanted to add some content to it to to spice it up again and given the changes coming to

  37. 00:29:23

the rest of the game it really made sense for us to um add some more to to the prison so we've made a number of changes including uh putting in a new mission that does exactly what you say allows you to remember remove your crime stat yes by the help of a not so friendly friend that you'll make along the way so at this point uh let's go back to my camera here so at this point uh we are going to uh do something we've never done we are actually going to show you the go no go uh that was that was recorded and presented uh to CR and the directors uh this will be a cut down version of the go no go uh the original one was about 30 minutes long uh it was mostly like it had like 20 minutes of Max just getting lost in the caverns uh underneath pleasure so we've cut out his just one

  38. 00:30:12

around you know aimlessly in the caverns like I I can't remember how to get where I'm going uh so we cut that out so we got about 10 minutes now this is going to show you what this new method is so if you don't want to see that if you want to preserve yourself this is this is where the spoiler warnings are uh go find something else to do stop the YouTube video if you're watching later uh go check out one of the other Star Citizen streamers on Twitch if you want uh but yeah we're gonna we're gonna play the go no go video and we're gonna do your version of your commentary live here because that the the dialogue wasn't recorded during the meeting so we've got the visuals we're going to add new audio and uh yeah with that let's uh that's enough warning let's play the clip all right so we're starting off in closure

  39. 00:30:58

yeah so we're we're when I recorded this I tried to do it from the obviously the perspective of a player who would would have just arrived in prison and uh generally I think when players go to prison they either try to enter the Escape Route straight away and get out there as fast as possible or they head into the mines to uh dig up rocks and serve their sentence uh like a good citizen and um here I just allude to that as you kind of would go deeper into the prison for those who who don't maybe don't know already or have don't do the mining very often the deeper you go into these prison caves the more likely you are to find rarer ore and rarer or when you return it we'll give you back some uh that's an NPC raw it is yes so this is one of the other features that we've added to prison unrelated to the mission this is

  40. 00:31:47

just to help spice up and Spruce up the place uh a bit more so we've added emergent AI that was spawned in the in the caves and sort of wander around it really adds some life to it these AI can also be killed and they will drop prison loot uh so any loot that would be available to a player in the prison uh can potentially be on any of these AI however if you do so um in the prison uh you'll know that you'll get a murder charge still so you will increase your sentence by doing it however that leads into our next spot as you can see the mission was just offered to the player now this was triggered because the player got so deep into the minds that he entered a new section of the of the prison Minds that we're calling the prison black spot so this means that this area of the prison is so

  41. 00:32:37

so deep underground that the cluster can no longer block Communications to prisoners and uh Ruto has found a way to allude through that so he has found a way to uh contact players within within prison and offers them a mission now this Mission um is to retrieve a data chip that one of his other little minions uh failed to smuggle out of the Escape Route for him so he's asked you to find his Fallen fellow and retrieve the data trip and upload the data I would like to quickly just say I've Just Seen A lot of people call out trespassing that was a bug yes we fixed it it wasn't meant to be there um that's there because in order to do the test you just warped yourself to the prison

  42. 00:33:24

we technically I'm not allowed here all right so we're back up so we've now we've been skipping ahead a bit every time we Fade to Black we we skip ahead like three minutes so we're now up you're back at the fan folks will recognize uh the stopping the fan here new UI for the fun keypad though that's got to be exciting right yeah yeah I like it and yeah we've uh so in terms of the Escape Route itself we haven't it would be a very big task to change the whole thing uh but uh in order to um add a little extra to it we've um the body that the data chip is on is kind of floating uh on these platforms within the main cylinder of the Escape Route and it will be different each time

  43. 00:34:13

where the body spawns but as you can see here this is quite high up in the Escape Route anyone familiar uh with this will know that this is right near the end of the Escape Route but the body is sort of in the middle so I locate uh one jump to make it across obviously uh on Aberdeen the planet that the prison is located on this has low gravity so um you need to complete a series of jumps to to get to the body and to achieve the data chip and then once you've got to this point it's very difficult to re-enter the route a safe point so you might have to go to a point that you didn't previously go to and sort of find your way back to the Escape Route and and get get away it's also where the body of spawned yeah and it's also worth mentioning that at the moment you escape prison you're automatically

  44. 00:35:01

put onto a timer because of of Aberdeen's natural temperature on the planet um you know the player will the player's body temperature will increase rapidly and and so to sort of complete this Mission or to get to the Rover um you are already on a timer this will add some time to that timer it's significantly more difficult if you damage yourself along the Escape Route any other point which is quite common so uh yeah in in the process of um escaping you will need to get past the trip mines which was the first thing I ever added as a designer to the game I remember there was a conversation just a bit before that where Max said like oh people are going to crawl on the floor and go around it and there was a big discussion mft people going no the world another one in the first video we saw someone did it they did exactly that

  45. 00:35:49

that was like my head's too big I'm gonna Crouch yeah and so we've skipped ahead we're now outside uh We've now after falling about six or seven times most likely yes we've come to the little storage crate that's got the Ursa you've got we've got the code for the Ursa yeah so you grab them from the from the guard room and then you escape prison just like it was before we made this we've made a slight change here in uh the this Rover that spawns now will now spawn with some guns inside of it um this will the purpose of this will be shown just shortly because uh towards the end of this Mission you're going to be required to uh to enter some combat so all right so at this point we've recovered the chip from rudo's last Lackey yes and now we're we've got it we've got to take the chip to the the this Waypoint what's at the

  46. 00:36:38

Waypoint so it's a satellite so they uh Ruto wants this data direct directly uploaded to him not physically handed to him so they have the Ruto and his gang of uh conveniently stashed a satellite inside a derelict that is um that you'll see just shortly here so after the player uh has a short a Rover ride over Aberdeen's lower orbit uh low gravity uh Planet which is also very fun by the way trying to drive that thing over the surface um they will arrive at derelict and this derelict has uh got security um from Hurst and security who have gone there to investigate what's going on uh and which is why there is a Cutlass park there

  47. 00:37:25

and uh the player will have to fight off the security that are here and so that he can upload to the satellite now obviously you're doing this solo but many folks enlist the help are friends when escaping prison they can um there's some caveats to it this is meant to be done solo that's the idea they could call in a friend to come and help them at this point but the problem potentially with doing that is you will get a crime for killing these security guards so whoever is on the mission it cannot be shared the mission one person will get to wipe their crime stat so if they were going to enlist help from a friend they might want to make sure that it was the person with the mission uh killing them off

  48. 00:38:13

because you're going to get four murder charges from doing this but uploading to the satellite at the end will wipe you clear of them so the person who took the mission so again so if your friends come if you enlist your friends your your crime set will be cleared yes but your friends will still have the new the new murder charge they love a long sentence they can eventually transport if they can bring you here but if they if they kill anyone there they're gonna end up back there and the whole idea of doing this is to avoid having to go to clutter exactly so that's your incentive to doing this solo so it looks like they switch you switch guns because the first one went out of it yeah there's only one clip in either gun uh as obviously Horizon um Hurston didn't just leave uh an ammo card full of uh full of bullets Rover right next to the prison but as you can

  49. 00:39:02

see here I uh I take out the AI and I'm up putting the data chip back into my hand to uh to upload into the satellite and this is mission complete so the uh the data chip will be eaten by the satellite router will get a Ruto will get his uh his much needed data about the insides of plusher and the player will walk walk away Crime Free there's also that Cutlass now can be uh commanded by the player so they also have a way to escape the planet immediately upon upon mission complete uh us uh I'd be remiss if I didn't say that they were called magazines not clips ah tomato tomato es magazines anymore anyway I'd also like to say that um the closest one of

  50. 00:39:49

the closest settlements to clasha is uh what is it flats and we've added an Aesop terminal there so if you are alone it's not exactly a short hike but there's a hike you can do and you can get your ship if you do Escape are you stealing the Securities Cutlass now yes we are yes you just cleared your crime stat I always hope they don't find us but I guess there's nobody alive to report the crime is there exactly no not unless you get found is it is a crime really a crime if nobody's there to report you well you could fly this ship to the new Platinum Bay exactly and get your own chips so the mission not only gives you a way to clear your crime step but now it gives you a way to escape the planets without needing to call for friends one of the one of the like issues we noticed

  51. 00:40:37

with the first sort of Escape Route we had was that a solo player it really isn't good for them because they'll get out and they could put up a service Beacon wait for someone to pick them up or they're just stuck uh so this kind of helps that solo player lifestyle um get off and plus with the addition of the Platinum Bay even even if you've not taken the mission you should be able to go and get your stuff cool well I think that's about it um is that I was chairs being weird uh thank you so much guys for hanging out with us and for uh uh talking about the investigation stuff that we saw citizing on talking about a bit about what your team is bringing to Alpha 318 and of course sharing with us our first look at a an actual live internal go no-go um I can't believe you you made CR sit

  52. 00:41:27

through all 30 minutes of you wandering the tunnels huh yeah it's tough the more embarrassing thing is a QA tester he tested this stuff yes I'm gonna get you a license to Premiere and I'm going to show you how to save the man sometime yeah I mean I'll need the help all right Elliot Max thank you so much for hanging out with us uh guys we're gonna take a short break we're gonna throw it to a few more uh Community commercials and when we come back uh we'll be joined by John Griffis from EU sandbox 2 and we're going to talk a little bit more about uh him and what he does so stay tuned we'll be right back [Music] foreign

and that was another fine selection of community created uh commercials uh adverts uh whatever you want to call them uh created by you the stars in the community and upload it to our own Community Hub now if you're not familiar with it the community Hub is a fantastic area on the robertspaceindustries.com website where you can submit content you can find content you can vote it vote up which content you like most and stuff like this we are hoping that by including these in the show we will inspire the creation of more we want to see uh ads for your own organizations we want to see uh commercials or videos about the fictional brands that already exists within the universe uh narrative short short story short form narrative stories about your

  56. 00:45:19

adventures within the universe basically uh as long as it's got uh as long as it's got not any royalty trademark music click in it and I try to keep the swears down if you can I'm told repeatedly gotta keep the swears down uh and it's roughly about 45 seconds to maybe two to three minutes we'd love to Showcase it here on uh Star Citizen live each and every week so uh hopefully you'll get cracking you'll submit them to the community Hub and be sure you vote on which ones you want to see included and showcased on the show more and maybe uh there might be some incentives added to this at some point what not let we'll see how it works so

  57. 00:46:08

uh Kyrie doc says I heard Kraken no you didn't I said get cracking you guys killing me you're killing me all right joining us on the show now is uh is a member of the cig development staff on EU sandbox 2 that you met for the first time uh yesterday on inside Star Citizen uh none other than uh lead environment artist is there a number after that no just leave me just a wall just lead environment artist Mr John Griffiths John how you doing man I'm good thank you thank you for having me on I thank you for agreeing to be on the show uh now a little bit of the reality folks might might not understand we actually had a whole different set of guests a booked on the show and uh they fell ill collectively at the same time uh so we

  58. 00:46:57

found that out this morning and uh John was gracious enough to with no prep with no with no forewarning to come and sit in and chat with us so John the second half of these shows are a little bit different than the first the second half we like to get to know uh the people get to hear a bit about their story and and how they work so right off the bat I'm just going to ask you how did you get involved in the industry so I grew up playing video games like I'm sure a lot of people did who work in the games industry um and that's what I wanted to do at University but my parents weren't really on board with that probably a bit like a lot of other people as well so I actually went to like I was I really liked I.T and art at school and product design and I went to University indeed

  59. 00:47:47

web design and 2D animation and we're talking like almost two decades ago now um came out of that hated web design really enjoyed and at the time I was doing Adobe Flash animation 2D animation and I did a couple of gigs with that but the crucial thing for me was getting into that third dimension so I went back I did a masters and that basically fast-tracked me into the 3D World and then I actually started in animated film and I was doing a 10 minute short films for 3D for theme parks and attractions so you know how for us uh cineworld um do that 4dx thing where you're riding around in the chair we were doing that before it was cool so

  60. 00:48:35

um it was never cool yeah exactly so cool so I was doing that for a while and then I moved over to video games you know that's where I wanted to go eventually it just took me some time to get there so I worked on a few Lego games for a bit and then I went to a VR Studio then to another game studio and then I came here what was the other game Studio uh are we allowed to say I went to fabric games who are now part of fire Sprite who are now owned by Sony that is uh They're laughing in the background uh the video game industry is incredibly um for lack of a better word incestuous it's you you end up meeting the same people back and forth let them right oh yeah you were here

  61. 00:49:23

it's I remember in my very first day uh literally my very first day here at cig uh um uh both Matt Sherman and uh Damien Darian vorlik two names from the two names from the past the old time star citizens might remember uh in the kitchen uh it was in the kitchen getting some they both like hey didn't you used to work at blizzard and I'm like yeah I guess oh yeah I remember your eye I'm like I don't remember you at all but I felt I felt like I felt so bad but it's it's just you end up running into many of the same people and then the companies get bought and moved over in companies and then you know talked about Bungie bought and then separated and then bought and stuff like this so so yeah it's a it's a lot of mix uh stuff like this so you are a lead environment artist what uh what's your what what

  62. 00:50:11

what separates a lead environment artist from a senior environment artist from a regular environment artist so I so for the underground facilities I'm the product owner so it's up to me or it's on my shoulders to deliver this location so it's not just doing the art it's managing the team doing the planning checking everyone like unblocking people um working with other disciplines making sure that yeah everyone's got what they need in order to do their jobs is my job as a lead environment artist you ever do do you do actual Arts yes I do and I have been doing recently so a lot of the stuff that you saw in the citizen con and in the ISE is some work I've been doing so we're

  63. 00:51:00

very much early stages white box just like I said in the video just getting some content out so that we can play it within context as the player would play it and check that everything's kind of working together so I have been involved with that and as the team grows I'll be taking more of a not a back seat but I'll be they'll be the other artists will be doing the majority of the work I'll be just doing I'll be just doing I'll be doing feedback and just the general smooth running of getting this location out the door I find that this happens in a lot of disciplines and a lot of the verticals where where you know it's when you're hired in is like the base thing whether you're a designer or whether you're an artist or whatnot it's you're doing the thing that you're originally

  64. 00:51:47

intended to do and then you move up to a senior and you take a bit more administrative role and you end up doing less of less of the art or less of the design am I am I right here Elliot you're not Mike yeah I'm just gonna say well and then you get to lead and I imagine you get to lead and then you're doing even less art or less design and then you get to director and and everybody knows uh directors don't actually do any work I was go to my camera that was just for Tyler awaken I chose violence today um but yeah they're always there oh hold on let's see if I got a message hold on do I get a message is he watching Tyler are you watching

  65. 00:52:35

he's not watching he's watching so um so yeah so uh how much of that uh holds true for for you or how much art do you still get to do versus how much Administration and growing your team and stuff so in the last couple of weeks I've probably been doing more admin and planning stuff and that's what you saw in the IC um but I'll be going back into doing art so I'll be my switch I've been kind of 80 planning 20 up and I'm switching back to 80 R 20 planning um because the plan is now done yeah um yeah so that's that's kind of where I'm at but you know that will fluctuate over time sometimes it'll be 50 50 sometimes it will split the other way as well and you said you uh you're currently uh building your team uh your team is is somewhat scattered you know

  66. 00:53:23

some teams are all in one location but your team tends to be scattered amongst the the different Studios talk to me about your team the EU sandbox 2. yep so we've got um Martin and Frick who are in the Frankfurt studio uh Martin did the race tracks for anyone who remembers those um and then we've got Luke in the UK who's just started um which is great and then on the design from on we've got Manuel and John they were in De and we've got James in the UK so it's it's not just art focused it's being a product owner you have to be aware of design and how that fits into it as well now during the segment yesterday uh when we switched to the uh spreadsheets and we start we saw the absolutely concrete and accurate numbers

  67. 00:54:12

that don't change ever yeah and are always the very first thing to get entered yeah um I think it said there was like 2 674 days to complete the uh the underground facility so when are we when should we be expecting this 2032 I don't know how many years that 2 674 days is also see it's funny because when we filmed that that was my latest and greatest spreadsheet at the time since then I've Revisited my numbers and they've you know fluctuated a little bit let's say um but also when we were filming it it was the number of artists was reduced so of course the number of days is going to be higher um now we've kind of balanced the books a bit but um I'm not going to give you a concrete date because I don't know myself yet

  68. 00:55:00

fair enough and that number anyway is not like contiguous days those are the the number of like I I guess person days or something yeah yeah person days and this isn't including any holiday or sickness because I encourage people to take holiday and you know if you're ill please stay at home um this is just kind of days in which it might take to deliver this location yeah and uh I have not been messaged by Tyler but I have a message by Todd Pappy directors are a fantastic individuals they are some of my favorite individuals uh uh and they are some of the most hardest working individuals and we wouldn't have anything uh without them I love directors and and and especially uh Todd

  69. 00:55:49

who's messaging me right now you okay I said Todd is that good all right so uh with that I think I've successfully set enough fires uh during the day this is what happens we used to you know the show used to be all backer questions and when the show was all backer questions I was safe I could just play mediator and whatnot but when we changed to the talk show format and I had to come up with anything it's clear that I'm gonna have to practice uh safe questioning a little bit because I'm just ah hopefully this won't be the last broadcast uh anyway that's the show thank you so much for hanging out with us on this week's Star Citizen live uh be sure you tune in uh next week to inside Star Citizen uh we have got a

  70. 00:56:38

feature that I know many of you have been waiting for uh we've got a Chad McKinney and Dan Griffiths uh no relation uh from Austin to you and they're going to be talking about the current progress on the cargo refactor just going to give you guys a moment to and then and then we then Morgan from here in the UK studio is going to give us an update on rastar which is a tool that we first saw at citizencon last year uh that is currently being used to place a whole new host of outposts on the planets and moons of the standard system and as well as the upcoming pirate system so check that out that'll be next week on inside Star Citizen and for Star Citizen live uh it all depends on who shows up we'll see we have a plan and

  71. 00:57:28

then it goes away so yeah so for uh Elliot and Max hanging out at the bar back there uh for John uh for John uh being an MVP and being a total champ and filling in at the last minute uh I am uh Jared Huckabee uh be safe have fun don't burn any bridges that you absolutely don't have to because you're on live video and uh we'll see you all next week everybody take care
