to do for uh alien week i mean the the the the reality is that you know the the aliens are still you know in early con with exception the vandal anyway and some minor uh push forwards on xi'an and stuff and their their ships and stuff uh it's still very early days for a lot of the aliens so we i fear i figured that we had we had covered like as many aspects of this stuff as developed at this point but i'm like maybe we could get some like interesting you know artwork done because you know that's one of the things we we don't have a lot of we don't have a lot of reference art for this stuff so i figured we could add some at worst you know you know just something for fun for social media and whatever but but at best you know maybe some some interesting like like nose art or something for

do certain topics and there's a lot of criteria it's actually a fairly complex calculus that i've talked about in other interviews and stuff and especially i talk about it pretty extensively like during bar citizens and stuff for the folks who are a captive audience they can't get away from me but uh one of the things in that calculus is a simple question and that's would anybody else do this would ea or activision or sony or whomever other the other big game companies would they ever spend an hour with the i.t people on uh scl or were they or they ever spent an hour uh drawing uh chibi versions of of their alien races with an environmental consequence and and if the answer is no i'm in

kind of a three four phase of uh process and uh i mean we have one one phase where we establishing um sketches blocking and stuff like this uh second pass is going to be a refinement and finding a better uh you know following the notes from uh from the the haiti and stuff like this and uh after we have a third base pass where we we're gonna refine and final pass is gonna be key hard so we can say like we have a four step where we uh where we following those closely and uh having a final image at the end so four steps yeah yeah some something that's i think

you know if if folks have watched i would we've done many many con uh shows between scl and isc and atv and rtv and stuff with concept artists uh if you've if you've followed us through all of them i think i think there's a there's a story that if there's a continuing story that can be told through all of them and that's that the concept process is not so easily predictable and sometimes sometimes you strike on that thing so quickly you just it's just the clouds part and the and then the sun comes through and and there's a little bit of serendipity and you're you're right in sync with with with with with the person in charge and you just hit on those things so easily and and you're like wow what an easy easy you know birth of an

idea and then other times man other times you go through revision after revision after revision days become weak sometimes become months uh uh you know it's it's i like you know i i like to joke and uh uh at the expense of my of of my friend jeremiah lee but you know jeremiah one one of the stories that you don't get to hear very often about jeremiah is that jeremiah came in clutch for the anvil arrow the anvil arrow went through artist after artist after artist you know like ship team artists trying trying to get that concept right like we just we just could not get the thing that we were looking for there were fine looking ships or whatever but we were looking for something very specific

and in a kind of let's take a step back step back take a deep breath and and try something different uh they handed the shift concept off to a character artist in jeremiah and jeremiah nailed that sucker just just boom it was like a one two three i don't remember how many days it took but you know it sometimes we just needed that that completely different outside uh uh influence in order to get the thing you want so the arrow was actually a very very difficult concept uh development uh that took an outside uh uh uh uh process in order to to figure it out uh and uh and yeah so that's makes sense yeah so
