all right let's get ready to start and I want it to you and uh oh here's the dial screen hello everybody welcome to a last minute hastily cobbled together episode of Star Citizen live out of character I'm your host uh Jared disco Lando Huckabee uh and if you've never seen Star Citizen live before it's where we take about an hour most times sometimes it's a little shorter because the meetings and stuff out of our the end of our week and we hang out with you the Star Citizen Community now on Star Citizen on Star Citizen live sometimes we uh uh uh collect questions from the community and we pose them to our developers sticking their proverbial feet to the fire
- 00:00:49
um that's not what gonna be what this show is today so uh if that's what you're looking for this is your heads up uh sometimes we make a person a a work for an hour and we watch them and make little snide remarks and and I interfere and make their work less than it was and then they get upset with me at the end of the hour because it's like hard enough to make something in an hour without without me uh getting in there and and telling him to do a loop-de-loop in the racetrack it's not going to be one of those shows it's going to be the kind of show we haven't done in a long long time uh it's gonna be a meet the devs it's going to be a casual conversation with somebody that uh chances are you probably haven't met yet uh they're relatively new uh to the Star Citizen family uh and with that
- 00:01:39
let me click the button here and bring them up on the screen uh Damien how you doing hello so pretty good Damian you are what you tell people I'm not gonna do it that's why we brought you on the show who are you what do you do for Star Citizen all right so uh I'm lead character artists working mainly on pu Star what's a lead character artist do all right so the goal is to create like content like creating outfits create like like I mean creature Monday it's gonna happen um characters uh for pew uh now folks who have watched uh uh
- 00:02:28
starts in live for a while who followed Star Citizen for a while Amigo isn't isn't Jeremiah Lee the the lead character artist um well I'm sad to say we finally kicked that dude in the butt send them packing he's gone he's out of here he went over to the Squadron 42 team so so Jeremiah is is is has been in charge of the Squadron 42 character art team uh for most of this year uh which left a uh wonderful opening for us to bring in our our our new friend here uh Damon when did you start uh you started back in what March yeah that was in March yeah this year you came to the LA Studio like your very first week and and you got to meet you
- 00:03:18
yeah yeah exactly that was the second week and uh yeah onwarding for a week we don't we don't get to hear uh this kind of story uh very often so tell me what your first well since you came to LA in your second week tell me what your first two weeks yeah so so you've been around well you've been around the industry and we'll talk about your your industry history in a second here but let's start with Star Citizen what were your first two weeks like that was intense that was pretty intense that was like it's an onboarding so I had like to meet so many people from UK uh at first and that second week we had to go to L.A meet all the take our team onboarding for a week uh that was pretty
- 00:04:08
intense but pretty cool to see what the people working on this project pretty nice so they brought you into turbulent for a week let's let's let you barely get to know some people say hi Oh this is where my desk is and whatnot and then they put you on a plane and sent you to LA in your second week yeah pretty much it is that is that normal amongst your game development experience I mean that was the first time I did enjoy it I won't complained I'm going for like it was in Mars we're living in Montreal it's like I don't know it was probably probably minus 20 degrees Celsius so going to La for a week having like 20 25 degrees Celsius that was pretty good uh when you were in La uh we took you to one of my my favorite haunts in uh uh uh
- 00:04:56
down in Santa Monica because I knew I was I was living it was one of my last in March it was one of my last weeks uh before I moved to the uh Manchester here in the United Kingdom uh do you still have the uh the the the the tiki mug thank you of course of course I thought bringing it I thought to bring it to bring it to a to to the studio but I didn't but yeah I have both yeah but looks like you have a uh an old co-worker in chat uh Ubi underscore Montreal underscore Legion says Jared can you say hello to Damien from me Patrick a former co-worker with Damien back in 2011. Patrick probably I mean I need to see your face but there is so many Patrick yeah I'm so
- 00:05:47
sorry oh ups are easy uh yeah of course I know Patrick yeah I remember now I worked together he says he was from Wild game Studio yeah that's it I remember I remember of course it's okay I I I I I I have word production anomia it's a it's a it's a low level Aphasia that means that I can't produce the names for things very often yeah uh I've been dealing I was diagnosed with it uh really early on this this year and it's been a challenge this uh like this entire year just like I'm doing one of these shows like people don't see this we'll do a little inside there's gonna be a weird show everybody let's we said it at the front we're gonna say it again this is gonna be a weird show I I have little St I have stick it notes that are stuck to my
- 00:06:34
monitor here uh with the names of people because it's because in January or February I was doing a show with John crew and I forgot John crew's name who I have done 40 50 things with and what I was like and I'm like hey uh uh so what like for for 15 minutes I didn't say his name well I was asking him questions and whatnot so so that was like oh my God don't go to the doctor and they're like yeah yeah you you it was it was like three months of test but it's like yeah you've got this thing I'm like oh at least we know what it is uh now everybody just makes fun of me for it uh if you pay attention to uh ISC over the last over 2022 you may have seen it a couple times where I say the wrong name for a thing and Amanda is just like throwing notes at the bottom of the screen like okay we have to we have to clean up for uh for Jared
- 00:07:24
I'm trying everybody so all right so this is a show where we're basically just going to talk about you and get to love and get to know you and and how you came on because uh uh the character team is a well it's not it's not uh it's not mint's words the character team has a lot to do you if between several different aliens alien races to flesh out for that for the person Universe Universe uh to building the uh fashion styling for multiple planets across 100 potential star systems before it all is said and done so like that it's uh and then just overall the weird random things that come up like hey let's do weird bare
- 00:08:14
mannequin helmets for Halloween uh this year it's it's like you've you you this team that you're building on turbulent really has their work cut out for them uh so let's start at the beginning here uh let's roll back how did you get involved in the game industry all right so uh okay so yeah but my first experience was uh mainly uh advertisement and uh not really movies but that was mostly uh advertisement I was working in France and then I came here and that was like the first company called WHY games to do where I met Patrick was a like a video game company and I started as character artist at that place
- 00:09:01
and then uh I mean that was my first experience in the game industry and then that was uh after a year and a half I went to another company called CA uh that was like a military company I was mostly not doing characters anymore just at home mostly uh so after a few years uh I really miss doing characters so I had the opportunity for candy as a characteristics working on that by daylight so I've been like I've worked for for behavior for seven years working like seven years on dead by daylight uh I was like the only character artist at first and then was like uh after a few times like we hired more and more character
- 00:09:50
artists and uh now they have like an army of a character at least we were pretty yeah the crazy characters out left and right but uh I'm so happy you mentioned dead by uh dead by daylight uh for uh we don't get a whole lot of chances to talk about the history of Star Citizen on the show you know ISC is always looking forward for the most part scl is always looking usually looking just a little bit further ahead so we don't get a lot of chance to talk about the history uh dead by daylight is a is a is a is a very popular game that's out there that's developed by a company called Behavior Behavior was one of cig's earliest Partners in creating the earliest versions of Star Citizen uh
- 00:10:39
Behavior was responsible for the hangar module uh Behavior was responsible for for for uh for uh many of the first earliest assets that you know would eventually become uh parts of the persistent universe so like this and uh at Behavior Uh there were two there were two people especially uh uh you know a great team but there were two people that always stood out um and remember I just said I had word production anomia which was makes I'm realizing I just set myself up for remembering a name there's Dave Richard and there's another there's a gal and I I'm oh I'm struggling to remember her name uh who's Dave Richards like number two like I I never saw Dave Richard where where this person wasn't whether with him if you had a guess uh uh number two yeah after they've
- 00:11:28
returned yeah yeah working on on Star Citizen yeah specifically a behavior as you I probably went over the the dead by daylight too but okay Dave Richards specifically if you've ever played hyper Vanguard Force Dave Richard was the one who coded and created hyper Vanguard for us in his free time like there there was just a day like there was just a day we were just having our weekly sync meeting uh with our with our uh buds at turbulent and Dave is like Dave is like just giddy he is like shaking in this meeting and I'm like I'm like I'm just like I'm like hey I'm sending you a message I'm like hey you okay I'm like yeah I'm just I'm just I'm just waiting I'm just I just
- 00:12:15
got away I gotta wait I gotta wait wait until all the work stuff the schedule work stuff is done and so we get to the end of the meeting and then he's like uh hey before everybody goes I I I got something I wanted to show everybody and he just presents this fully built completely articulated web game you know based on the old uh 1941 shooter style you know yeah like a space invade Traders a Gladius whatever this hyper Vanguard Force complete with Sprite versions of many of our ships I think and we're all just like you just did this on your own it's like yeah I I like making games and he's like you you use it however you want and it was just like okay so uh it was a it was a wonderful moment uh in Star citizens history and and uh
- 00:13:07
um I'd just always be grateful to Dave Richard and his enthusiasm uh for the for the project uh he was also the one uh there's an early hanger flare uh modern day players may go Hanger Fire uh way back when we had this Hangar module you could load in and just kind of stare at your ships in but there was a bunch of flair for it uh and one of the flares is this locker from Another Universe where we're inside the locker from Another Universe is a bottle of uh of cloud CT Lando fever syrup uh and that was an homage to me Christine Marsh that was her name okay Kristen Marsh okay okay yeah RC Marsh was awesome love Christy Marsh so yeah Christine Marsh and Dave Richard like the dynamic
- 00:13:54
duo as far as I'm concerned back in those days and and they're the ones who put that in before I worked here before I worked here it was it was them doing that and them reaching out and saying hey we recognize your your contributions in the community I think that made me that made me first think maybe this was a place I wanted to work so I mean literally Dave Richard and Christine Marsh start the the the the the the initial flame that eventually gets me to come here so basically so there's there's some there's some really old stars in history from from like 2014 2015. there so uh let's talk a little bit about uh your time at Behavior then since I since I've just made this whole thing uh you're you're you're working to launch a new game and you're the only character artist
- 00:14:41
yeah yeah I started like we were like 20 people at first when I like when when uh Behavior working on that by that we were like 20 people and I was the only character artist uh that was I mean that was not I mean tough okay I'll say it was tough at the beginning because the the timeline of creating a character was super tight and we have like we had like a dad a specific art Direction at that time and then uh uh we had like uh like uh not another partner uh called star Breeze at that time uh to direct the change so we had to change the characters again to the look of the character the direction changed at that point so uh but like slowly and slowly the the game
- 00:15:30
just released uh he had the blast with twitch and and our platform and that was really crazy like at that point that it was just like me releasing we should put the game and then we are working on on something else but that was it's not what happened so uh at that point like we created the store we hired more people and to help us to create creating that uh that store and creating all those different outfits and it started there it's like after that it we were like shipping and shipping weeks after weeks and months after months new new carers new survivors new outfits so uh but it was really really a good experience uh for me uh just getting into a live game
- 00:16:20
though I would like creating contents and stuff that was really good really really good uh Dan still in the chat says sure it was tough but it probably built character [Music] I tried Don stealer I tried um uh Christine Marsh did not appear on ATV probably no I don't think Christine uh a crease City Marsh appeared on uh ATV uh not on our TV but when we used to do those um we we would occasionally do little remotes uh if you like like the news from around the world or whatever we called it where we check in with the studios uh uh she and Dave uh would do did an occasional uh webcam uh a call into ATV uh way way way back in the day
- 00:17:10
I I it's hard uh coincidentally enough as part of an internal discussion uh we had somebody uh uh tally the number of videos that I've made for cig where where you know don't make anything by myself but where I'm the where I was the principal creative lead which is what my title is now but you know and uh it's over 1100. so so in in eight years I made 1100 videos uh just for CID and so I I reserved the right to not completely remember that 100 but I'm pretty I'm pretty sure I have a pretty strong memory of Christine and Dave sitting on a tandem webcam giving us a news from around the world uh update on ATV it's possible we re-recorded it and it never
- 00:17:58
went out too we also made a okay those are just the ones that we released there were there were there were a number of videos we we did not release a second episode of Game Commander um we did a pilot for something called versebusters once um there was there was a there we tried a lot of things uh no I didn't work here during women's anger Kimmy so I'm not counting this those weren't videos I made uh one more thing before we move on from dead by daylight because I because I really enjoy it uh were you there uh in recent years uh that they've done a lot of uh uh a licensed characters yeah Resident Evil stuff now yeah were you still there when all the licensed stuff started were there any favorite characters
- 00:18:48
you're like oh man I I get to make I get to make a a 3D version of Freddy Krueger or or something yeah that's about I mean I mean Freddy Krueger I did it that was the one of the first lessons we worked on uh that uh I did the Freddy Krueger I I did the the one the creature from uh stranger things as well the first one we had we had like uh the model that Netflix used for the for stranger things but um uh we had like converted into a video game so uh that was that was called I mean there is there is some like companies that it was super easy to work on to work with uh some others that are like so picky and annoying that was really yeah painful sometimes we we we
- 00:19:37
got we got no we got no car in this race dish no I'm just kidding uh Galactic about our social media manager says that Pyramid Head is the best killer was nice super nice to work on this guy as well that was one of the artists that worked on the on this character we had like it was super cool to work on those all those like different lessons it core but at like uh like we had so many uh the more and more licensed to work on that sometimes for like in one chapter we had like maybe two or three characters and working on different licenses and that was meant for like all the feedbacks and stuff and the the the timeline is was also super super tight so having those feedback sometimes are
- 00:20:25
like okay but man there is so many things that we need to change it's gonna be intense but I mean we like that it worked at that at the end it worked so well it was good before uh we're about we're going to move on from the from the behavior in the dead by daylight guys but uh for any of you who are watching uh you know how how much I enjoy throwing uh Twitter waves at people uh uh uh uh if you want to if you're so inclined uh look up Dave Richard on Twitter it's deviousness Q something or rather that's Dave Richard if it says devious whatever that's the right guy and just tell them that the Disco Lando misses you he was really like a guy I haven't talked to him in a while uh your mic is trying to phase out of
- 00:21:13
reality who my mic your mic his mic I might who's Mike third base so that's a really old joke yeah okay um so from Behavior did you come straight here from Behavior was there someplace in between yeah yeah exactly okay so so okay so we don't need we don't need to talk about why you left and whatever the you know those things don't interest me what Drew you to Star Citizen like you've been in this industry for a while you've been in this industry for a while uh you're looking for a new opportunity and of all the choices I mean Montreal is a heck of a market for looking for for a
- 00:22:01
game game developer positions I mean it's one of the reasons why you know we partnered with turbulent uh there's is because the the the the opportunities there are are just tremendous you get some you get some uh really quality uh people not like J Lee equality but better okay he's in South Korea right now he's not watching me um what Drew you to start saying um all right so how it happened like Charlie contacted me um all this thing okay yeah Luke so they contacted me and then in a week like everything happened so I had an interview with them and they they talk
- 00:22:51
about they talked about the project and what they wanted to do with the like uh like four character uh on Star Citizen and uh I think really the things that that really helped me to decide it's like they they really told me that you have like Carter Blanche you can you can do whatever you want and you have like all the characters in for you and you can do all the outfits you can there is so many things with star stems you you said it like uh earlier like there is different all the different planets and we need to uh populate all those areas which location and other stuff so there is so many opportunities to create uh like outfits faction creature so that challenge really drives me like it was
- 00:23:38
something that was like it's so big that I need that challenge in my life it's a challenge so uh so yeah the funny things is like uh when I was working at Behavior Uh uh I'd like to I think uh been there in 2015 something like that so start start season was was still like uh the project that we ever worked on at that at that time and I was I was super interested about this game at that time so I was like oh my God it's super sci-fi and there was so many characters uh well um like in the future I want to work on to that game as well and it happens like it's funny that after seven years uh that now I'm I'm working on turbine working on Star so it's a funny story and I'm really
- 00:24:27
happy to like there is so many challenges that that we can we can can have to yeah that that's why yeah it's it's you said something it's like yeah come on here and do and do whatever you want yeah it's pretty much it is a uh we hear something we hear I've been here for the better part of a decade now um one of the few positions in the company that talks to every single Department in the company it it's it's it's between uh uh toast and I uh it's a guy named Stephen cam uh we're considered the tribal knowledge people be just because we have some pretty decent memories not for names but deep pretty decent memories and and we talked we
- 00:25:15
have to talk to everybody about everything at some point uh so it's just usually faster to come to one of us instead of trying to track down the person you're looking for um that phrase you you know come and do whatever you want is is oh I'm hearing myself twice there we go uh it's a it's a dangerous uh double-edged sword uh with with Star Citizen it is because it it is it is it is an invitation of opportunity it is it it is it is you're not going to get to do every single thing you want but but it what it means is that you know anything is on the table if you if you come with an idea and you come with and you bring with that idea passion and intent and solid Creative Vision and uh also it helps to
- 00:26:05
tie it in with the lore in in in in a lot of cases uh you have a pretty good shot at get at getting CR somebody to go yeah yeah and it it's one of the things I've come to really enjoy about my time here is that is that openness to the better idea um the show seems to be Jared themed it's my show aglog says this show seems to be Jersey I saw that but but it's yeah it's and and I see that I see that as a as a draw for for a lot of people but then the flip side of it is that when you can do anything you want and whatever it's the challenge of of
- 00:26:53
prioritizing it's the challenge of what to do first you know and stuff like that so it's uh have you found that in your six months yeah yeah a lot I mean uh that's it like we have we have a lot of things to do but in the same time there is a lot of constraint as well that's it's already the game uh constantly for the customization concentrate for all the other stuff and uh you know you need to deal with with those things so uh it can be sometimes frustrating but at the same time we have like a lot of opportunities like uh we have all the different team and and people that that are like here to help to to to work uh to help with the vision so uh
- 00:27:42
no it's cool I mean uh he had this it's there is so many frustrating but at the same time uh we are all working together on this project and we all find it all different solutions so it's pretty good so I'm gonna put you on the spot here you said the imitation that so many people get is you come in and do the thing you want what is what is the thing that you want and I want to preface this not the thing that is on your docket right now not the thing that you're working on or the thing that you're going to work on next this is this is when you're here long enough and you've built enough cloud and you've got your team going and the schedules aligned and production allows what what are the things that you want to bring to Star um like right now I feel like uh
- 00:28:36
uh there is a kind of a I won't say lack of vision but it's more like a lack of a long uh long-term vision and I feel like for creating a contents in the engine or you need you need that certain vision of uh of like what what's happening in a year or two years and what uh what what what we can like create it creating in terms of like uh faction uh new creature or whatever so like what what I'm like are you planning I'm not the only one like we have a new producer a characterization material concept Artist as well so like all together we're kind of like building that process and that production that from the beginning we know already what's going
- 00:29:25
to happen in six months in a year and and slowly getting the concept 3DS and then take art like every discipline so what I want it's really is streamlines all those different departments and and creating that uh that that process that super going super smooth and everything so that's my my plan in a way that I really want like let's say every quarter will release like a bunch of characters but a lot not just like two or three characters uh well like maybe I don't know I won't say anything because I don't throw me the best to under the bus but uh my goal is of course getting a bigger team uh a core team here in Montreal UK so uh and and and yeah yeah that's it and after we
- 00:30:14
got we're gonna have like all this this process streamline it on every uh Department that's my goal I want that I want I want the same things I kind of created uh with with behavior I did on that by daylight is it's streamlined also this process with uh having like a big character team and at the end just like creating content creating outfit for like the community for the players uh helping the location probably is as well like the location I'm sure they need a lot of characters for the mission so that's my plan as well to to help them yeah it's it's a lot of things but uh I'm sure I'm sure we're gonna it's gonna happen I'm sure I'm really confident about that
- 00:31:01
well uh having seen some of the stuff you've already done uh you got a good start uh let's take a look at what chat's saying uh chat uh if you're watching live on Twitch uh you can submit questions of your own just preface the question with the word question in capital letters run by brackets it's going to help me pick it out uh from the rest uh if you're watching on the YouTube replay sorry sorry yeah had something better to do I mean uh let's see uh Kestrel says every single Department in the company except HR nobody talks HR I'll let you in on it I'll let you in on on one of my oldest internal jokes here Kestrel I I have threatened to do every Department
- 00:31:49
in video game development it's like for SEL for ISE wherever I can wherever I can fit them in I will highlight and discuss and and and and and and and educate on every single Department in Game Dev um I had a boss I had a new I've had a couple bosses in my time here uh some of you've met some you haven't met and I had a new boss start the week I did an hour-long show with the it with the it guys you might remember an SEL where I had the I.T guy from LA and the itu from Austin and the I.T from Manchester United from Frankfurt and uh let's just say that chat wasn't super receptive to that show because they weren't learning about the hot new feature uh that week and that was that was the the my brand new boss that started that week and so I
- 00:32:39
loved the show it was great show it accomplished all my goals and I walked out of the stage and I literally walk up but I've seen my brand new boss for the very first time he goes oh hey Jared how you doing I'm like hey everybody who's he goes hey step into my office I had a question for you I'm like oh okay I step into his office very first conversation I've had with this guy and he goes did we do a do we do a show at the it people and I said yep he goes did people seem to like it I'm like nope he goes why why did why did we do it I'm like because they're incredibly important they're essential to making video games and they never and and I've done like 1400 hours of of of content at this point and they never get one anywhere else so I spent one on them anyway and I'll do it again and he was just like oh
- 00:33:27
I respect that all right cool and yeah and that was that that's my setup uh Kestrel to saying that the big the last threat is is the last joke is that my last show will be with HR you know you know the last the last video that I produced for CID will be the exit interview with HR we'll film it we'll produce it we'll we'll share that and we'll do and we'll we'll we'll we'll we'll we'll explore how HR in the in game development works that's that that's that's been my internal joke for forever um uh johnater found the video that uh Christina Marsh was in it was a 2014 uh citizen con video so like like I said it all goes through the the the the same pipeline the same process I used to make ISC is one that I'm used to make citizen gun stuff at
- 00:34:15
all it all blurs together in the uh thing let's see what else the chat has uh uh will we ever be able to play as alien races uh we've never said anything to deny otherwise so I I want to I want to say that I'm using that very specific wording we have never said you won't be able to that's all we're committing to it's a it's a good way to say it uh foreign what are you working on right now all right it's super boring right now I'm fixing bugs fixing characters have bugs yeah bring the textures and the shipping
- 00:35:05
because the customization is really really tense so uh we are working on this like sometimes time to time um but the result yeah I mean I don't know if I can talk about it but it's let's let's say uh too surprised uh tap it to me in teams don't type it in in Zoom type domain teams and I'll tell you if you can share it uh all right see can we get a plaque up in new Babbage Hospital four or five for the 100 people who were in the morph stream uh uh talk to your community managers because I don't know what you're talking about let's see what else do we got uh what's my favorite uh panel for this year's citizen con
- 00:35:54
um uh that's a hard one um I think I I think the the the the the the the sleeper panel I think I think the panel that it doesn't have the best visuals but it's got the most important information is the one on resource management if I'm allowed to have an opinion it's not that not to say the other ones are aren't doing uh I put a citizen con this year is the seven best stories we can put together uh you know right now with the state of development in the way it is right now I think they're all really good I'm really proud of all of them right now uh but I I think I think be sure you pay attention to the uh to the uh Resource Management
- 00:36:43
one a lot of a lot of misconceptions that players have about how things work and stuff like that a lot I think well I think we'll hopefully be cleared up in that one uh let's see oh you type method let me see the thing you typed oh yeah we've talked about that Damian we've just talked about that before yeah so all right what Damian was talking about and I'll let him talk about is is a uh a rarity system for for for for loot for character items and stuff rare items epic items stuff like that not Rarity and stats and stuff but in how hard they are to find and acquire and stuff we actually have some version of that already in with the loot system right now uh uh the the Halloween uh event coming up has loot you know you
- 00:37:31
know the the considered legendary lewd and loots are considered rare it's like that harder to find and stuff like that yeah let's see uh is there a particular piece of uh uh armor or clothing or whatever that you're uh that you really that you're really enjoying right now that something somebody's working on an outsourcer or something that's excited about uh yeah I mean there is one like you can see parties worked on on a specific armor and I think it's gonna be like it's gonna help for the gameplay wise and design and stuff so I think it's this one's pretty cool the Zeus outfits was really nice to work on as well even though I just adjust some textures and stuff but
- 00:38:20
I mean there is so many armor in the game uh they are like they have the core design so it's kind of hard to see which one is the best which one is the look that you look there yeah I don't know uh ibia 8938 says do you anticipate ever being able to change the size build of our characters Beyond facial features uh We've addressed this a couple times over the course of our history ABIA uh the the short answer is probably not and that comes to a question of metrics uh because we are because we are building a first person Universe where ever we're all the insides of things have to fit in the in the outsides of things and it's like this uh that that is already a Monumental task and
- 00:39:11
having a metric for all the characters to to fit is part of how we make that task manageable uh if we have to go if we have to continuously go back and adjust doorways and hallways and and the height of drawers and retarget animations or anything because characters are different heights and stuff like that uh it becomes a much it becomes a far greater task for what is essentially not enough return it's it's it goes back to that priority stuff we've done there are just so many other things that collectively I think we want more uh that we need more uh that is just a better use of time than than allowing somebody to be an inch or two higher or an inch or two or wider and all the knock-ons that have through the entire universe so it's this is not
- 00:40:00
me saying never because geez I've been with this project long enough to know never say never but I I think we can safely say it's not in the cards at this uh let's see uh what else you got um uh will you appear at citizen con we tried to have Damien appear at citizen con unfortunately we couldn't we couldn't get it to work with uh scheduling uh flights and and and stuff like that so uh we we did have a pre we did have a presentation uh a building for him and I think we'll probably find a place to do it later uh earlier in the new in the New Year probably uh you know it's it's citizen con I mean citizen con when you come down to it is essentially for in a gross oversimplification of it
- 00:40:50
it's an entire season of ISC just dumped into one half afternoon so so there's nothing to say that if we couldn't fit something and I you know we're always pulling stuff out of ISC and pulling stuff out of SEL and to put it to put into citizen gun and that's why some of you may have noticed the annual quarter three drought that affects uh All-Star citizen programming every year it's you know it is what it is uh there's nothing to say we can't pull things the other way too so we are currently talking about some of the ideas we had for citizen Khan that we weren't able to put together because of logistics or whatever and maybe revisiting them not having to wait another year and and looking into them in like the early parts of of next year and stuff so again
- 00:41:38
that's not a promise of any specific action that is just an acknowledgment that we're having those discussions and stuff uh right now mostly we just have to get past this citizen con and then we can open our brains to what we're going to do in the next six months uh Jared's favorite snack is honest Burger uh that that's true hi burgers nice I'm I'm a burger person uh devil ducky uh 611 uh has a a question that is that that is probably close to the hearts of many many players hairstyles anything you can give us new especially uh not to put too blunt to point on it for female characters that aren't these
- 00:42:28
Butch military cuts that we've just taken from Squadron yeah and uh anything that shows a broader range of cultures uh would be uh much appreciated yeah I mean uh I think I can say it like in two weeks we're gonna have a hair specialist that's gonna start uh at CAG for a like specifically here so that's gonna happen definitely we we're gonna we're gonna like concept hairstyle and stuff like that and see like the like the the technicality of doing that was there because we all know that here in in games is really complicated so uh but like the the material I know the uh one
- 00:43:18
of the artists worked on on here on the Shader and stuff and it looks really amazing so now we need like a like a hair especially that's going to work and then design all those different hairstyles it's going to come like uh yeah at least we have like someone that has a real life like a lot of experience on that I worked on so many games like about here and stuff so I'm confident it's gonna you're gonna be You're Gonna Be Happy uh you said this person starts in two weeks so we can expect delivery in like four weeks after that I hope everybody's running around you know how it is Disco says new hair in six weeks uh mischievous asks any chance dumptown
- 00:44:07
will become a more permanent frequent event uh Mrs I'm gonna get uh we're talking with our lead character artist from our our partners in uh turbulent Montreal uh I don't think uh he would have any insight and I don't have any insight either um but I mean it's already more more frequent than it used to be so uh but when was the last time jump down that was it yeah I I don't I don't remember I don't I I don't remember we have a we have a lovely and wonderful uh Community team uh of of people like uh Tyler and and Galactica and and Olf and and Christian and somebody else that starts with a J and they they track that stuff so that I
- 00:44:55
don't have to and when I ask a question they tell me wow wow Jake acapella wow I just wanted to see if you're still watching still just want to see if you're still here dick uh I told you this is gonna be a different kind of show I'm in a snarky I'm gonna snarky uh mood any thought about creating wear and tear on Armor and clothing oh yeah we've had many conversations about that I don't know where we where We've Ended I mean I I know it's something we absolutely want but I don't I think uh one of the difference I mean t principle uh Forest is working he worked on this like during this summer I think he's still working on this for the wear on there uh we like we developed
- 00:45:45
like a new material as well like the the open V2 the other version uh so like it's probably gonna come one day I'm not like the guy who's doing it so I can't see anything but for sure that's something we all want okay uh and uh yeah so as a as a follow-up to you to the the hair specialist uh is that going to include looking at beards or facial hairs of any kind yeah we want that too of course yeah we're gonna look at it look into that uh let's see scum Oh I thought you were calling me scum scum just got their female update yikes CAG you need to check that out armor that is appropriate to the bodies and
- 00:46:32
compliant and updated a current U.S military specs well I don't know that we'd want to use current specs we're 940 years in the future but the point is taken uh check out scum he says look at what they do yeah questions questions I just see a bunch of facial hair and stuff like that uh it's it's so you're building you're you're building a team right now uh the the so so folks I don't know not everybody uh keeps up with the monthly reports and stuff where a lot of the the nitty-gritty stuff kind of gets moved but the existing character team we had was uh some time ago earlier in this year uh was basically split into yeah and and half were sent uh uh uh uh sequestered punished imprisoned under
- 00:47:23
Jeremiah Lee uh to work on uh Squadron 42 and and uh and then you know and then and then and then a portion of them stayed with the Pu but of course at half strength that needs to be built back up uh that's one of the reasons we brought Damien in uh so one of the jobs that you've been doing for the for the last six months is building up uh your character team how's that been going uh pretty good actually we we started with with like two uh character artists here I'm not sure uh one of them one of them is we we worked together he worked at Behavior with me on that by daylight system is his Camille uh the other ones in Jeremy uh Jeremy was like fresh out of school super talented and uh so we have those two first we have like uh
- 00:48:13
Christoph which is uh who is like the concept artist senior concept artist we worked together in the past that's grounded by the right yes Drake is super talented as well it's gonna help a lot on on that on all the process and stuff uh and like slowly now I really wanted to have like uh that core team here in Montreal knowing all the process the pipeline and get into like all the the constraint the all the technicality we have we have for the game and and be super like uh uh like knowing all those constraints and then slowly starting higher more people so we have another artist that is that is from the LA Eric and then we have petrol from UK that we are working all together and uh
- 00:49:05
with the time frame difference it's but we are still uh uh I mean it's working go it's very working is we're fine uh with all the all of them yeah I mean right now we are like uh searching that we we just like uh post like a character uh offer last week uh for Montreal uh studio so we'll see like uh we're receiving some uh some applications so uh but slowly I think uh for like for the end of the year I would like to have like probably at least one one percent more two would be good would be would be really cool uh calling module and then I mean it's going to be Crystal's Christmas times and stuff so like nobody
- 00:49:53
changed at that time normally so it's gonna start probably February March next year but the team will grow for sure a lot um we are almost out of time so we just do a couple more questions and we can let you you know get on with stuff whenever we talk to artists and so like that it's I always like to talk about Inspirations because I think one of the one of the best ways build an expectation of the kind of stuff that this person will eventually deliver is by understanding a little bit more about the things that they enjoy the the the thing what they bring with them to their art so what would you say your inspirations uh are it's a hard moment I know it's
- 00:50:43
right It's Gonna Fill Up at least five minutes so I'm just gonna click here and leave you there and I'm gonna take off and let you uh let's do this okay what what are what is the what are Damien's Inspirations and go I'll be right back oh my God okay I don't know man that there's so so many there are so many things that can be used for inspiration movies video video games I don't know there is so many I don't have like a specific one I think there is a lot of things that we can take from a lot of art a lot of like idioms so hard to say really hard and I'm not back yet
- 00:51:33
keep going yeah see that's you so fine then then the last question and we'll wrap up for the day uh uh uh Jeremiah Lee was our previous lead character ours the Pu he was a concept artist he just Jaws little 2D stuff on paper you're you're the new lead character artist and you're a 3D artist you you sculpt and create in a in a Dream World of Magic uh what other ways are you better than Jeremiah Lee uh how it could be better than Jeremiah so awesome I don't know but other things
- 00:52:22
Hobbies I don't know I did Taekwondo did you take one down oh he does he's doing yeah I did that is he doing Taekwondo he's doing some martial arts now yeah I don't remember which one hmm all right so folks that's it thanks for hanging out thanks for hanging out with us uh uh for the last uh 50 some odd minutes if you haven't kept up with things uh we are in our citizen con Corridor uh we no if ands or buts about it uh no hiding behind trees uh if you follow the project for any period of time uh you know uh a quarter three is a is a is a shaky and interesting uh period for our for our video content uh there's only ever so many stories to tell at any
- 00:53:11
given time only so many things that are ready to show uh to show and uh we we take an entire season of stories and dump them in a single afternoon which we do at citizen gun every single year uh those stories come from someone so so uh uh I hope you I hope you you've enjoyed uh the con the content this year uh this year this quarter um we are coming we are coming back uh with our last ISC before citizen con uh next week uh it's a special episode uh we are doing a new kind of follow-up show where we are going to retouch on all the major features of this quarter and show you how they've changed since we first covered them in ISE and answer the most pressing questions that you
- 00:54:01
guys had in the comments uh after each each segment so there so it's a look back at all the features that are in 318 and answering a whole bunch of questions that you guys had about those features uh such as uh what happens when you shoot your hall scrapers at a living ship and where do the ptvs and the arena race track come and what do I want to salvage if I don't want to be in combat and all kinds of neat new stuff so uh check that out uh next week on ISC remember that 318 is now not only this quarters patch but it is also the iae patch so it is not arriving until somewhere around the beginning of November that means when ISE comes back from Hiatus we will still be in our 318 window so that's when you can expect us
- 00:54:50
to talk about a cargo refactor and the remaining features that are in 318 uh basically it was the choice between do it next week and show you this much of it or do it when we come back and show you this much and we opted to show you more so uh we'll be back from Hiatus with that and then of course remember to tune in right back here on Twitch on October 8th at 8 A.M Pacific 3 P.M UTC for our digital citizencon 2952 we've got a whole host of of new presentations and everything to show a planetary pyro which is just what you think it is and a little bit more um a look at a new a brand new type of a whole new form of mission uh that is
- 00:55:40
that is coming to the Pu that that issues violence and and combat for deductive reasoning and and and and and and and and hunting Clues and stuff like that uh for with investigations uh we we got the the newest info from the flight experience team they've been working they've been sequestered in the Squadron 42 branch and they are coming out from their work on Squadron 42 to uh give you all some news that I think you're very much going to want to hear uh and then the resource management which for my money is it's basically it's basically the answer to how everything from space stations to player home settings to eventually those big Capital ships that I know you all want to play around this is the answer to make all of those things possible so check that out and a
- 00:56:28
