hey everybody welcome to another edition of calling all Deb's our weekly Q&A series where I take questions live from you know it's not life it's pre-recorded from you the CIT backer and posed them directly to our c IG developers all in one take one take huh could be that's what they call me alright to start things off this week we are going to Manchester United Kingdom and talking to lead ship designer John Crew John crew from Manchester UK let's see if he picks up John crew hey you don't man hi I'm not too bad as I said lead ship designer what is your title now thanks for the promotion yeah yeah I'm sorry he's lead technical design lead technology see in my heart you're the lead ships alright no I gotta go matches yes if only if only all right I got a question for you this week right off the

  2. 00:01:00

bat this one's come up quite a bit since we've redone since we redid their the ship matrix and we updated all our ships a lot of people went asking about the freelancer max and now the freelancer max when it was originally sold had four engines but on the matrix currently it only has two now is that a issue with the matrix or has there been some design change that has reduced the number of ship engines so as people know like the freelancer vert insert on the roadmap for what are the releases this year so at the moment it is simply an error in the ship matrix but as we get through to actually building their out it it may only have two it may have four it may have more but what is definite is those engines will be bigger and more powerful

  3. 00:01:50

than the other freelancer variants to account for the extra size and weight and capacity so it's probably going to be four because it will be similar theme to how the current freelancer max model is a variant of the old base freelancer but until we can actually get around to building it and yeah guys get on it I can't yeah be 100% I'm a design site they just have to be more powerful yeah so so you know it makes it makes sense when it comes time to actually build it out you know it there may be some technical reason there may be some gameplay reason to to just make two larger engines as opposed to four smaller engines but that hasn't been decided at this point is what you're saying yeah and from the old freelancer models to the current one that everyone has

  4. 00:02:39

there were lots of other similar changes that got done so can expect similar levels of that happened to those other three variants as they they get made and of course one thing that I will expect is that every single time you guys make a ship you get better and better and better at doing it so so the weight should be worth it for this one yeah I think think you mistook better for bigger in our community that sometimes they are one in the same sometimes era when is it alright junker I'll let you get back to work man thank you so much I probably take bigger all right thank you so much too drunk crew moving along to our next question we're giving a call to Matt Sherman tech designer here in our Los Angeles studio let's see if he picks up hey Jared what's up hey doing man good

  5. 00:03:26

I got a question for you it's right up your alley it's about the Cutlass alright so so I think everybody's pretty happy with the Cutlass rework and when I've it's it's one of the bigger success stories of a 2017 for the LA office in my play like Josh did an amazing job with the visuals on that ship absolutely thank you so much we're seeing a lot of talk lately about the the the the the cockpit configuration with the two seats and this question is specifically goes to whether we will ever consider allowing people to fly from either ship right now the pilots in the front that the rears in the back would we consider allowing people to swap right now no that's not something in the cards it was

  6. 00:04:14

intentionally designed where the front seat was specifically built to be the pilot si including you know the hardware needed for flight so you don't just have a single stick and you're flying your ship functionally you know it's the the throttle and stick or even other ships or it's a dual stick SEP so it just the the rear seat was built to not have all that setup to it so to try and accomplish that we'd have to kick things back to art do a rework on that but also at the same time that was just never its intended design so one thing I've seen people bring up because I've seen that sort of pop up in spectrum as well is they're they're saying oh it should have been an attack chopper that was never really the esthetic reference for the cockpit as much a bigger thing was

  7. 00:05:04

actually the dropship out of aliens yeah where it's you know it's much closer to that because I mean we've already got the giant shoulder mounted ordnance it's just ours doesn't fold out like the cheyenne did but the the cockpit is also very much in that similar kind of mindset where you have a more panel heavy pilot seat in the front lowered position you know right up to the nose of the ship but then you have a much more unobstructed support gunner seat behind that pilot like if you even go through look up the the Cheyenne itself and it's like oh you can actually see a lot of those same cues although where they have a weird you know cramped hallway to get the pilot and the

  8. 00:05:51

co-pilot to get through their seats were like no no we're gonna we can't do that for collision reasons and being a game so I think like that how it is yeah so it's it's definitely not a unheard request so I mean people just not as easy to implement as folks might say well just let it switch with me because the the two seats are actually physically built differently and and you know you know Chris and his immersions and its fidelities and one of this reverse you want ever since we commander you're meant to look down and see your hands on the sticks and stuff like that if the 6-ton just you can't fly from that ship or at sea so yep all right man I'll let you go back to work thanks for your timing all right cool talk you later thank you all right thank you so much Matt Sherman now we're

  9. 00:06:41

moving around the world to Austin Texas to a good friend Rob Reiner your tech designer out of Austin Texas hey man what's going on Jarrett how you doing man how much I got another question man you're faster coming our calling all Deb's all-star man thank you so much this one might be a little bit cart before the horse but you know what we'll give it a try here it says are there plans to have apartments on planets with cities such as our court so apartments might be a little premature like we've got the concept of haves which aren't really being used the way that they're fully intended to be at the end of the day right now when you spawn into the game you or you die spawn back at your hat but these are intended to be things that you can rent for a period of time you know the Rena had for a month for

  10. 00:07:29

you know certain amount of credits and that is your room at that point so it's kind of kind of like the apartment concept I think if I was to guess you know I think they're kind of going or you know is there gonna be player housing or guild housing in the game and and we understand that that's something that people are interested in but that's we're still a ways off from having like dedicated apartment buildings or things like that in the game so we've got tons of space to obviously do it it's just you know we want to get the foundation of the game in there first yeah so I hear that this topic has come up a number of times over the years and I think we have lots I think we can say we have lots of ideas but that's not the same as plans at this point I mean right right and right now right now you can see the development plan for the remainder of 2018 on the on the RSI

  11. 00:08:16

public road map right there beyond beyond that it's a lot of ideas it's a lot of wish list kind of stuff like that but yeah thanks for bringing up that the happening though you're of course referring to the Habs that people you spawn into on like portals are or like grim hex yes I think of it like your stateroom it's the bedroom that you wake up in though those are what we call halves and it's part of our common elements set so all locations will have halves all locations will have you know like metal units or you know certain core elements that every place needs right just a function your own landing pads etc so halves are on that list so they're gonna be our common thing that you're gonna see around the universe even it you know if even if it's just for the workers like it's it's a little truck stop you can't actually rent a room at a truck

  12. 00:09:03

stop it's just for the workers but they're gonna be there so that workers can come and go and go to sleep and then have their 24-hour schedule so yeah it's that they're gonna be a common thing and and you'll be able to like the idea is that there's going to be different you know kind of tiers of have that you know they these are a little nicer they have a little more room for customization or this is just like baseline like it's a bed and you know closet and that's about it really paper exactly a shared bathroom I mean I'll let you go thanks so much alright take these right back take care all right thank you so much Rob Ryan ago now you probably noticed I look a little different than I have been the rest of the show that's because I'm recording this on Monday morning we had some video capture issues with the last two calls I normally film these exactly like you see

  13. 00:09:51

him one two three four five in the order all in the same time and when we came back to the footage a couple days later the video for the last two answers were corrupt so rather than do a show with three answers we're gonna give you the same five answers but uh it'll be podcast style so uh we'll be back next week for our next call we're going back to Manchester United Kingdom to our good friend Luke Davis Brewster for the ship team out there let's see if he picks up hey Dad how's it going Luke how you doing man it's alright you know son England oil how about can it be it is it sunny is it well define sunny weather you know the Sun exists some point up in this guy past the clouds I get pictures from people in LA sending me photos of

  14. 00:10:41

the sky just to remind me how it looks like so it's it it can't be that I was lucky enough that when I was there last year for that week it was a gorgeous week where the skies were clear and I'm like wow if it were like this all the time I transferred to Manchester in a heartbeat I got a question for you you're uniquely suited to answer this as producer for the ship team here the quiet this question submitted by the backers voted on by the backers it says are there any ships other than the ones we know that are currently scheduled to be reworked so in regards to the ones that currently being reworked actually going into the year we actually realized okay we really need to get a go on these we really need to prioritize these you must get everyone to agree let's let this get this out well the way with let's focus

  15. 00:11:28

on them so beyond the the countless areas the 300i variants so the series they're freelancer the constellation and the Redeemer that we're going to be jumping on as well there's only really the m50 the buggy and the merlin as potential candidates of ship so we would like to not so much rework to the same extent that we have done something like the aurora or the Cutlass but more apply an update to so the a good example probably something like the Hornets mm-hmm where that wasn't a complete remodel per se but it was we remade an aspect of it in and we sort of applied you know new materials new shades onto

  16. 00:12:17

the actual ship and it sort of made it look a bit more fancy and modern so the Merlin buggy and m50 are the ones that so don't really look up to par with the rest of the ships and our potential areas that we may want to go back and look at two caches so just to clarify so that every you know so it so everybody's on the same page we're chuck work we're considering the m50 of the merlin and the grey cat buggy for four revisions at some point in the future but we're not committed to it and maybe it made to be decided that they're fine the way they are no I mean these are just ones that we would let you know I'd like to have a look at but it's not confirmed yet scheduled and so the only roommates that we do know that we know definitely need to do where the freelancer variants the Cutlass variants the constant of the remaining consolation variants which are the

  17. 00:13:05

Phoenix which everybody knows is already underway and the Taurus uh what was like there and the Redeemer and the Redeemer now that's not to say that those are all gonna get done in 2018 obviously you see our public roadmap everybody available in Roberts face intercom / roadmap you see the ones that are on there the Redeemer is not on there so don't don't come out of here expecting it to be out in 2018 guys we're just acknowledging that it needs to be reworked out to give some insights and you know we we've prioritized all the ships are on the roadmap right now the Redeemer is simply the next in line so yeah definitely don't expect that this year yeah all right comment I'll let you get going thank you so much all right just right right bye all right so thank you so much - Luke Presley and now last but certainly not least we are giving a

  18. 00:13:53

call to met in Chieri our principalship 10 guard is here in Los Angeles hey Matt how you doing man hey Jarrod hey don't I got a question for you it's an old it's an oldie but but it's a goodie and I think you're the guy to talk to decompression we showcase decompression in our Gamescom presentation like 2015 if I remember correctly and we still don't have and we've showcased it a couple times in a TV over the years in like white box test levels and stuff this that this question wants to know what is the status of decompression is this something that we can still expect for star citizen in the future we can absolutely expect it it's definitely a feature that CR would wants to get in but we had to push it along a little bit

  19. 00:14:41

because decompression affects not only the ships but it affects the environments as well and there was some concern we were we were rushing into it without really understanding how that was going to impact the environments yeah everything we do has to be kind of global so yeah design just wanted to take a step back take a breath and just figure out some things before we rush in and do a lot of modeling and art - to support that yeah I know there were this concerns that we get this going for ships and it wouldn't applied to our environments and we'd have to do the same work WAIS so so yeah so it's it's more a global approach it's it's it's now we have to take everything both things into

  20. 00:15:29

consideration I I know it's one of them it's it's a super immersive thing it Chris definitely wants it just all things in their time of course I mean all right that's all I got for you take easy peasy I'll let you go thank you seriously well that about does it for this week's show special things to John crew and Luke Davis and manager Airy and everybody who took the time other schedules we're on the show this week I hope you enjoyed our food Medi feature for the last two questions I just didn't want to lose them and you know everybody's so busy we don't want to take the time to after we record stuff one take I could be that's what I say so for calling little Deb's I'm Content Manager for global video production Jared Huckaby we'll see you next week everybody hopefully in full video the entire way through thanks for watching for the latest and
