hi everybody welcome to star citizen live mission theory I'm your host Jared Huckaby and joining us on the show this week is lead designer from our mission feature team here in Winslow United Kingdom mr. Luke Presley okay hi I'm fine Wilmslow am I saying it will flow very wrong what did I say will you say Winslet Winslow I say will will will I'm missing the a long bit I'm saying when I'm saying win and you're supposed to be will anyway sorry that bothered me ever even to be with that but I should have told you outside of outside of life right it's a bit I've been here a month now your last show before citizen God so here in Wilmslow you know a kingdom we

  2. 00:01:03

are taking questions from the community today about missions mission features mission gameplay in the persistent universe you can submit your questions live in one of two places either on spectrum our communication platform available on Roberts space industries dot-com or on Twitch we are where we are broadcasting life and if you're watching this later on on YouTube thanks but you can't participate sorry alright we also put up a thread earlier this week to start collecting questions ahead of time while the new questions come in throughout the day so we're going to start with some of those those questions also got voted up to see which ones people wanted us to address most right off the bat let's just jump into it we only got an hour here current missions tend to require flying all over the star system which while good for keeping

  3. 00:01:52

people moving and testing can fatigue the player with long quantum travel durations what's the philosophy behind having players traveling all over the place for more missions and instead of having a group of missions that keep you within a single planetary system always nervous about philosophy okay so the philosophy going forward is that we try and keep make enough content fill a planetary system to keep you there for a good long while and so you we're aware you know travel times they're a big investment and quite dangerous sometimes as well and so what we're going to do is I take like Crusader right it's the first the first planetary system we built and I'm sure

  4. 00:02:41

everyone will be able to see there's a lot more dense with content than then you know via via other planets we want to get the other planets up to the kind of same parity with with Crusader and beyond and just for folks who maybe haven't been with the project since 2.0 we cruise say we're talking about the space around Crusader and that's planet planet in its free moons and you'll notice there are like space stations in there that don't exist elsewhere and they kind of legacy thing as we've sworn off builds and that I'm sure we'll get to later like how we're gonna have abandoned rest stops and things like that and so we'll soon be making huge leaps forward in the content and the

  5. 00:03:31

locations that we can add to to the office systems and like I did take a quick look at the the kind of ratio reserve of local let's call them local mission this versus one where you go to it and another planet and and if this question is coming from someone who plays a lot of the main content in the game which is obviously delivery missions and bounty missions delivery missions do send you tend to send you you know here there and everywhere but within Crusader you'll see that there's like link this family company who only do deliveries with in crusader ok you can imagine we'll be starting making those organizations that live local to two planets and also very very you know there are plenty of Koval X

  6. 00:04:21

missions that are just within the location as well and FTL and and when it comes to plant emissions the majority of ant emissions do take place in one location there is specific company called north Rock that sends you across the system and they pay more but maybe not enough further distances because obviously we don't dynamically generate the or calculate the rewards just yet based on distance so yeah going forward we are going to be making sure that there is a lot more content or enough content to keep you interested there and the only other things that really try and move you around of a mission giver in lights and those

  7. 00:05:08

because we're like special enough we hope missions that you you may be tempted to make the journey right you said we don't factor the rewards in based on the distance yet does that mean it's something we're considering yeah yeah I it would have to be Tony that would elaborate on this but yeah there's his like the dynamic mission system the economy driven thing yeah it's a good it's a good thing we should we should get out there probably towards the top of the show there's that there's the mission feature team which designs missions and the content of missions well and then there's the economy team or the folks who are you know building the the economy of the standard system and then of course of the star citizen presenting universe as a whole and while

  8. 00:05:56

what phases the player seems like one cohesive thing that's the intention it's actually like many aspects of star system there are multiple teams working on any given aspect when we showcase the eight ninety hijack mission of a game play on I see a couple weeks ago there were a lot of comments about the mission rewards up there but those those were filling numbers literally just we got to put a number in an entire different team factors in the reward later on down the sounds don't thing you don't need to know the reward when you're designing the mission we we start out with like a kind of difficulty and you know we're aiming for it to be this difficult and therefore may be shared between many players and then will give the economy team that kind of information

  9. 00:06:43

but they have a very very difficult job to do because we throw in so many of these missions and and and we give them this big kind of I think it's this hard but really only comes to feedback from the backers and like this isn't pain enough and so they'll go and take another look at that is literally one of the greatest virtues of running a live environment in the middle of our alpha you know of our development is that we don't we don't have to we don't have to have those answers right away we can put it in the hands of our backers and watch what they do with it yeah watch which missions they gravitate to our suspicions they don't gravitate to Watchers ones they struggle with Watchers ones they don't and then we can adjust difficulty and rewards based on the game we live over again we're cus we're so like what some of our systems

  10. 00:07:33

are so early on and they're like you know they'll have to change for number four every every mission like individually like we we aren't at the point yet this is why we need like Tony's system to come along and make this so much more easy for them and us and we're also like exploring different ways of defining difficulty because that's very difficult to do so for instance a I made a change a while ago that made AI much better at being a I actually better at being able to shoot with extends so suddenly they're like [Music] forget which one which ship it was like one of the 300 series and suddenly that which was like an easy ship became

  11. 00:08:22

harder to kill because it's so quick and so accurate then a Cutlass and you know we we say Cutlass that must be will say that's medium because it's big and it's got two sets you know people shooting from it and it just isn't the case anymore and that's dynamic that changed right underneath us so so we're we're in talks at now how do we set up maybe you know what have one computer there that making these things just fight like Deadliest Warrior style like you know a thousand times and tell us like dynamically like every now and again every release what is actually a difficult ship yeah it's a it's it's it's one of the everlasting joys and pains of starts isn't it to watch how a

  12. 00:09:11

change here has a knock-on effect there and not gonna affect they're not gonna detect there and when you're building a giant quite frankly a microcosm here a little miniature universe with with all of these interdependencies it's you try to anticipate as many as you can and then there's always something that kind of surprises you go that really does have a knock-on effect here and not gonna affect there and it's it's always cool to watch that watch that be exposed as things go on we had a follow-up question in the chat would it be possible to display distance on the mission before we accept it yeah I mean these these missions are kind of calculated and before you accept them so it's possible to do that now I would argue that distance is not always actually useful there are far too many

  13. 00:10:00

zeros on these things for you to you know figure out or to use that yourself so I would say time might be better but if we just did like it you know as the crow flies time that's so misleading right it would take you for a son or whatever and what we'd really want to do is tie it into the quantum travel system so we would see where you are and figure out how long it would take you to to get there now and and I guess the question is then is that the time in your specific ship or the time of the slowest member of your party if you were to link or do we just take an average an average of how often you're gonna get in addicted on that route good well yeah I wouldn't I definitely wouldn't take that

  14. 00:10:47

necessarily into account but yeah like the speed that your ship can do this like do we just take an average speed and and like players eventually get to a feel of that gadget around lot lots of suggestions in the chat right now I know this one we just we just talked about how the economy as a different is a different team here what can you tell us about the economy generated missions that are currently listed on the 3.9 roadmap is that one of those we should talk to Tony that Tony could make a an entire feature out of that and I think he should like it's I would not do it justice okay well uh I'll see what we can do about that are there any plans on creating more

  15. 00:11:36

missions like the gundo Koval xpi mission that is a big favorite by the way oh it's our favorite like the complexity and the story and and how we've taken that that one simple story and try to make arcs within it like and obviously there are a lot of they were expensive to make you know as it were time time and and such and also like crafting that kind of story obviously I'd say that's our first attempt at it and we're going to get deeper and deeper but yeah we're all we're all desperate to work on ones like that and the the introduction now with or soon to be of abandon rest stops so you know cover like Segundo is supposed

  16. 00:12:24

to be a kind of cargo deep over blew up and you know it was crafted by designers and such and doesn't bear any real resemblance like it doesn't look functional so we're taking the rest stops and the abandoned ones that have not only the the bit that players can walk around but they have a workers area huge and lower decks so you can imagine and abandon one of those where you get to like walk or Evie a or you know whatever around and we'll providers with so much scope to do a huge investigation mission we've you know so many arcing stories and and the building block system that we have I think we've talked

  17. 00:13:12

about before but like having like kind of an email system or something so you can actually go and log on and and you know kind of flick through the history see if there are any bits that stand out that will just lead you on investigations that could be dead ends or you know it could be where the missions supposed to lead now when you say expensive work we use that's usually seen as a money thing but in game development almost always time and resources time time resources yeah you obviously we have to work with writers on well for the story you know and if it includes recordings or even facial capture that means we have to do

  18. 00:14:02

it right the first time because of why is you know you miss one line or you decide to change for design you know you can't change for design once it's been recorded first that means getting about one person back in to do a few lines and you know that that's money like but that's also then time like you have to schedule that so I mean yeah it's a much bigger investment it's it's when you okay if we have this much time and this much resources can give us you can get us one P I mission or I can get us ten other I'm just picking a number out of the air but you know ten other cargo missions and delivery missions and and combat missions at PvP missions and stuff like I'm sure that that answer will be a recurring theme in here yeah that yes we we could do that by and we will do that but we have so there's so

  19. 00:14:55

much more like low-hanging fruit when it comes to content that we can do yeah that we will probably focus on that first and it's a balancing act you do a bunch of this and then you do one of these thing you do this and you do yeah and we get to have for fun you know we get to do that one yeah now that that the P I mission is probably when it when I I spend most of my time lurking in spectrum because if I ever like show up at kind of derails the conversation i guy we generally see a more accurate conversation if we just stay invisible and watch people I see a lot of conversation about that P I'm ition people seem really it was supposed to be deeper than then it as well like we were gonna leave them off on a on a trail as well into space so sometime in the future you'll you probably see that follower from the chat

  20. 00:15:47

would you consider creating a procedurally generated systems that would dynamically spawn variations in clues yes in fact it's absolutely necessary for investigation missions we can't handcraft every single one and what we tend to do is take a location and then mark it up for several missions like market I don't know how to explain that kind of there are things hidden but you will not see that where things may spawn or like take a cave a cave is actually full of dead bodies and we pick which one we want and we we dress it and so some dressing can spawn around it like a flare or something like that and it's obviously also full of navigation zones

  21. 00:16:37

and spawn points and Thor you know AI to fight against that kind of thing so like all these locations tend to be these ecosystems for missions various missions happening I'm imagining having the QA an investigation mission with procedurally generated clues though because then you have to like do the clues actually get you to where you need to go or did you not get to where you like if you don't get to where you need to go in the QA is it because the clues were bad and they were generated poorly or is it because you failed to figure it out or is it because it's one of the one of them is just broken you know like it's it that's that's the trouble with you know it's with difficulty with making right and procedurally generated and how do you ever like we have seeds in that so they

  22. 00:17:25

can tell us which seed it was and we can go back and check it but you know they can't check every seed that could be generated it'd be impossible and but yeah we plan to do that so you can imagine that you could start you know the mission could send you to a band and rest up that gives you a clue that leads you to an outpost which could be a dead end you have to go back to a rest up and dig a little deeper and then then you find it it takes you to a ugf and then to a derelict in space and you know only then do you complete it I'm all about it you remember one of the very very first conversations we ever had in 2015 I said I'm sure keys no no no no no they yes it was the same conversation but I gave you my keys idea and you shook me off and then I said okay well let's find out

  23. 00:18:12

what happened to all the stolen big Bennie's machines and you guys you guys really excelled on that one that's very happy with that okay next next from the threat here h-e-b once showed a flowchart for contacting miles and ruto via comlink to get missions remotely without having to sit down face to face is this feature still planned yeah we're aware going back to see them every single time was a bit of a chore with what we'll be working on pretty soon actually and like a really deep reputation system so it'll allow progression with organizations like miles you know individuals like miles occur and it may be that as you work your way through this progression and

  24. 00:19:04

hit percent fresh holds you'll have to have to go back to see him right we can give you the next like almost like you know well done pin a medal and yes exactly like the equivalent but also like if you do badly kind of take the so yeah but as you build up this relationship with these guys that you they won't need to kind of have you go back there as often yeah most like in the real world yeah from the chair here missions always pay in credits have you considered missions that pay in physical rewards I'm guessing like armor weapons trophies I don't know yeah we've made these been discussions back and forth several times on this and

  25. 00:19:55

seriously recently there will be we really want to its for its the asset generation that is the costly part of an end player inventory I would imagine yeah yeah obviously right now where do you get it from because we you know you need someone to hand it you really otherwise you go to a delivery locker and you're like a trophy and then you put in put in your persistent hab but you know it's it's not like decorating your home so it's not no it's not been our our focus but it is definitely something that keeps coming up and something that we will definitely push for it it's only in chat so now you could pay in commodities and then you

  26. 00:20:41

would be up to you to fight to figure out where you could sell it we look for the most uh for the most money I'm just trying to imagine something like here here's a wheat from England what are your thoughts on specialty ship missions like a hacking mission for the herald or a race against time in an EM 50 or mining mission for a mining ship I'll refer back to my previous answers basically we want to do them but you can imagine that putting all that effort into a mission but only a small portion of the row base can play is not right at this moment yeah we could be making missions for everyone and we are making missions for

  27. 00:21:30

everyone but there definitely things we want to do I'll give you a few instances right now we are actually making missions but are really hopefully why Matt I'm with over time we've done completable by ships that have all teams that have a ship that can fire torpedoes do some real damage like and in future we want to do the cargo running missions and stuff strangely all that kind of hinges on the the screens but we have like four and trading consoles were mining consults and shop consoles being converted into building block so we have much more freedom as designers to get in there because right now there flash and we can't get get

  28. 00:22:19

involved very nightmare change so the moment they are set up as a style and then we are allowed to go in there and and we can't not make it for it because it's got the style set on it we would add like a new page to all of these a new tab to all of these which is like jobs so you could go to one of the shops and see oh they'd like this transfer delivering to here you know they're like Korea kind of thing oh great on the trading consoles you'd be able to see we need this much move in in this amount of time to which you can decide you know all my ships not big enough to do that or I can I think I can make it in two runs but basically go around all these screens and and like

  29. 00:23:09

get a list of get an array of jobs from the same with mining and you'd be able to you know I will give you this long to find me this much weight of this and no guidance you know like you have to be good you have to have gone out there and done your research and kind of get know where these things are like at least the seams of this stuff to be able to fulfill these in the time granted and but even even balance in my it's quite difficult yeah one of the questions I was in the chat was well we get missions that don't tell us exactly where we have to go like the missions that are predicated on a player's own knowledge of the standard system and where they can find things yeah I mean that for

  30. 00:23:59

instance of a mining thing or even like trade in like we want you to we want this amount of stuff and we will pay you this amount now we have to be sure that there is somewhere in a reasonable distance that you can get it at that price otherwise you let you take a hit and you can take a huge hit if we don't balance that right it's the same with mine in like if we ask you to get this much stuff in this amount of time but that is just in possible in the region we would be making poor poorly balanced missions yeah so yeah there's this some had some hurdles before we get there getting building blocks on these screens is one of the main ones because as soon as that's out of the way we can do the more simplistic please take this much of this

  31. 00:24:47

to here but any ones that request an amount of things in a time we would have to ensure are actually possible well that pretty much just answered the next question next question was yeah yeah yes can we look forward emissions that are carry X amount of this or X amount of this instead of a specific item it's a people want missions where they get to fill their cargo holds or require them to fill their cargo holds rather to to accomplish yeah as I say as soon as we get that ability we will be and that's people who have pulling ships and mining ships like there you go you you know will actually start paying you and doing these missions for you does the there's the whole sea terrify you

  32. 00:25:36

yeah but for different reasons mainly for like docking reasons have you considered pirate counter missions to all of these cargo missions now the player interdiction is in the game doesn't mean like PvP yeah yes oh well you we've done the thing in the past where it generates a mission go rescue the satellite generates a counter nation go stop them for no so they're saying if there's a mission that says go take this from A to B could there be a generated counter mission go intercept that the I not generally not not like excuse me could you just deliver this pair of shoes or whatever is it there's

  33. 00:26:23

a Miss Koval Xbox and then you're suddenly jumped and killed then you didn't know what was in there and put totally when it comes to like you know a Crusades Crusader security guy saying we need this move in from here to here don't ask questions just be on the lookout like so if players kind of signed signed up a little combat and I can see that happening but I think if we were to generally surprise players with PvP that wouldn't go down particularly well I think I think it's I think it's fair to to at least indicate in the mission text or whatever that there's an opportunity for conflict here yeah I mean the thing is it's a it's a game with PvP there's nothing stopping you

  34. 00:27:12

from being jumped and then taking the box of shoes or whatever is it's just maybe won't be worth much you know and sandbox kind of PvP and what you get out of that in the you know the final game though I have all your wreckage out of all your components I def you know killing you is worth something beyond just a mission anyway and so you should always be on the lookout it's just that kind of I'm sending someone after you it's like it I've always really wanted to do kind of assassination missions like against players like but there has to be a like we have to be able to pick why it is that I'm deciding to assassinate you have you killed so so many bounties or this veteran the other that you you know you're out to be assassinated but it starts to it starts

  35. 00:28:01

to get difficult I think like where we draw the line there and bounties are fine people know that if they commit crimes that other people will come after them they can expect that yeah let's see from the chat here with melee and non-lethal combat mechanics coming up can we expect new types of missions like capture bounties or boxing competitions or anything else we will then do one do yeah yeah boxing competition some competitions yeah I actually worked on fable two and did that did bird know handed combat fair enough until they cut it and so I totally get stuff like that in there just it's kind of small side

  36. 00:28:49

missions like that you'll need dragon or hopefully not again hopefully over the shoulder I've been talking to rich Tyra who's our lead can react on the actor team so I've been looking at the melee system we've had to make laws around it obviously and like had to go into like there's battery second-degree if I just punch you in the face right battery first-degree if I knock you out and then kind of like proper and yeah aggravated assault if I pull up gone now but yeah hopefully not knock you out throw you over my shoulder carry you out as soon as we have that then I mean all I'd imagine most bounty missions would

  37. 00:29:38

become that or pay double for yeah taking you in get ten thousand if it's alive five hundred if it's dead we have them right right now or actually in three eight you'll be able to yeah it's going into free oh yeah yeah sorry views and opinions expressed by the press leave now represent those that plaid Imperium games or our experience industries or its subsidiaries what's coming at three eight well the melee system is and which posed as a problem and that because you could run around say Korea right gravis it's got a clear or you could run around and just punch everyone in the back of the head not knock them down they fall on the floor and are they dead we had to shoot them several times to invent then you hear

  38. 00:30:30

them and kind of rag doll again and it's like oh now they're dead because because you could you wouldn't know the dead from the unconscious and the mission counter is up there going no we have to be dead yeah mission hammer so we've made it so that you can just go around knocking them out if you want to but that that it's a bit of a weird concept for a mission I want you to go in here and knock everyone out is is is our mission be a dick yeah yeah we just have to figure out the ways to work this in to missions like these these systems arrived and you're basically whether backers are basically playing at the same time we are finished right so we sit there and we play with it and we figure out what's fun and we make

  39. 00:31:19

missions based around that we don't do that in conjunction with them making it because it's being made like I don't want to base missions off of half done exactly things yeah yeah so so that's your way of saying that you know melee combat will go in and then it will get played like a test it'll get iterated on and then you'll begin to develop missions that involve it yeah let's see what else uh what are the chances of joining and fighting alongside NPC's for missions example you take a mission and board a Hurston security ship and help them take out pirates we totally intend to do that again voice acting and so and and you'll see a lot of these kind of questions like what

  40. 00:32:09

when can we go and have more interesting conversations with people and honestly it all comes down to let's let's get there kind of quicker stuff that will really like flesh out all the low-hanging stuff done and then we'll start looking at these things and because we have to really have to give them right the first time when it comes to voice and these things change constantly for instance like all the actors made in in the Cova legs mission but P I wanted mm-hmm I mean it's now maybe five years on from from when we recorded votes all right I was gonna say the mission is not five years old you're freaking me out ya know from the time it was recorded yeah those recorded in 2014 so if we wanted to expand that mission

  41. 00:32:59

like could we even get those guys back anyway yeah yeah yeah yeah and just in case you missed a lead there yeah that the TI mission the audio for that was recorded in 2014 that sometimes the lead on a lot of these things let's see yeah one of the chat are there any plans for science raishin based missions such as bring a sample of this plant to the a poster find out how deep this cave goes yes yeah it's funny when I read financially the how deep the cave goes varies a a design and that will be working on soon and based on that obviously the collectibles I we have now inherited the mission team as it were harvestable and

  42. 00:33:48

mining I think once the system's been done been right kind of and completed by a future team and we we've inherited it now so we'll be deciding what goes on each planet what kind of exotic Harvester balls so when it comes to collections yes but again you'd really want to hand out after a person who's like oh and puts it under my microscope and you get a bit of a nice like like an ending to that mission and we could do them you drop them you drop them in their delivery locker sadly until until we get that handoff what can you tell us about sequential missions in the game oh then we actually be touching this a

  43. 00:34:37

little bit for example if I take one of the FPS bunker missions on Hurston after killing all the occupants we expect the bodies and find clues that may trigger an additional mission after that okay there are a few things that I like it there are simple sequential missions that we're working on and I don't know if I want to go into those I might keep it as a surprise family yeah yeah so there are simple ones this this one's a little more involved obviously it involves spawn it's more like a procedural thing like we talked about before you spawn something on them there's a chance that then that triggers on another mission thread and we we definitely want to do this I have been planning this in a different context to like taking something off of a body I have been

  44. 00:35:28

floating this around the directors and getting okay you know you know I've not got the absolute thumbs up yet but this is theory right I'm arrived to say yeah theorize so all ships have them have on them flight recorders okay even Drake ships and when you blow that ship up well I should say this this ship this this flight recorder records at all the things that happen on board and so as a criminal if I kill someone outside of monitored space okay the the Lord doesn't know about it yet and they didn't catch me doing it but on the victim ship is vlog for you know he fish

  45. 00:36:17

they caught me doing it basically you know that I was on radar when that happened so anything can they could know everyone who's aboard and my ship has of a log of every crime that I've committed so I blow up the ship it might be worth going and taking the black box and taking it somewhere that can destroy it and so that crime is gone but then on my ship it has been entire log of everything so I'm protecting like not only like my ship from being destroyed as I love my ship but if that was destroyed him they can I've got the flight recorder they could take that to a security depot hand that in and not only personally they would get the rewards for every crime that I have committed like you know so you know if I

  46. 00:37:05

go and take a big bad guy out he's got like loads of murders and stuff on there I would get a nice reward from that but he would be hit with all the crimes that have been registered against him and so like it kind of creates this like little ecosystem of a little economy even of any sandbox that's what's beautiful about its own box but can be worked into missions and just in case you came in the middle of that and you missed Luke's just killing where at the beginning that that's an idea it's a theory it's something he he's exploring and discussing with others it's not an approved design or anything it's specifically going into star citizen at this time it's just something that is worth thinking about Thanks I think it's kind of I think I think I think it's an interesting

  47. 00:37:53

wrinkle that you that you could be that you could be out there committing these crimes and actually carrying the evidence against you spent with you yeah and you're having protect them and like and then you tie the black box into insurance claims mmm-hmm like in order to claim in your ship is destroyed you have to have the black box in order to in order to get your insurance claim whatever so that's that would be a less you theorized yeah that's me there is that would stop it that would stop criminals from wanting to destroy their own black box is what I'm saying yeah yeah yeah yeah if criminals are reason for keeping their own black box yes if not just they cost a lot of money to get wipes maybe but um back to that question which I realize I'm not really answered yeah and those those black those black boxes woods once

  48. 00:38:43

handed in could like lead like they'd get back in touch with you and say the the guys aboard weren't like and well basically it would start an investigation mission billion could take so we're you've a person who who enjoyed just kind of doing these random procedural investigations and taking things out you could find black boxes you didn't even have to fight for them you know you find them on derelict we spawn and you go get them you take them in you get a little reward straight off the bat because this guy was a criminal or something and then a few minutes later they're in touch with a mission for you to do based on that you you've got a career there yeah speaking of careers this person wants to be a hacker

  49. 00:39:31

for hire can we hack the crime stat for someone else we desperately wanted to do this for three eight and but then socks came along and spoil our fun because then so we could do that we could Zak's like in three seven right we could have done this because there is everyone's on their own serve over fifty players in it and we could just say show all the names of these fifty players and you get to choose like okay this guy and I'm going to get rid of this crime but when we're talking about like a meshed server where everyone's together it gets a lot more complicated we have to like right now their crime stat and everything and all their infractions are

  50. 00:40:20

carried on them when they're loaded in and when they're out you can't get hold of that and saying you can't get hold of it very easily so we're going to have to we'd have to be able to ask for back-end like and yeah yeah update his persistence when he's not in the game which is more difficult but and you obviously there's also a UI you'd have to actually search for people's names because those would be about many but yes we totally want to do this and you'll find that in the new the new hacking of a database but all the individual crimes are listed which is really cool and you have to hack each one individually and depending on the reliability of your card you may get caught halfway through like you know

  51. 00:41:09

basically yeah you're not supposed to as a as if somebody works on the criminal database go through and delete too many things because then it starts a flag like this is unusual unusual load of things you delete in here so now it's like all about okay I'll pick the worst you know I'll get rid of that murder and maybe I'll leave these fines because fines will be on there as well so yeah you get to pick and choose and what's great about that is that you don't just wipe the entire crimes that and it's gone Lane you really have to it's an again an economy like service card that you've paid 8,000 UEC for is not just a ticket freedom it's a ticket to get your

  52. 00:41:57

crimes down but you know it may you may get caught and shut out of the system and have to use another one and for folks who are taking with luke said and extrapolating from that socks or server object container streaming is being worked on right now there's a wonderful article and last month's jump point if your subscriber highly check that out Lukas was saying it's not saying that socks is coming with 3/8 you seen that because we're working on it right now you don't want to build a system that you know is going to break whenever it doesn't you want to wait until that comes in and then work within the confines of that new system that comes out so it's rather than put that in and then watch it break it's wait until that gets in and then figure out the solutions that are necessary to work around that because like socks is a wonderful thing that will solve many

  53. 00:42:46

issues but it will also create many issues insulation yeah it really has as well like we we are having to redesign and and maybe even say this mission in the state it's in like cannot be done now we have to change it quite considerably so yeah we we are kind of going back to the drawing board sometimes on on missions because of the way that socks works for these things stream out right now we have a universe but it's always streamed in and you know and that's that's why we've been able to add the content we wanted and because it just you know memory but now these things disappear we can't send you to them cuz they gone yeah so this is more an issue of not wanting to do the same

  54. 00:43:36

work twice yeah so so when socks is in whenever that happens keep an eye out on the public road map it was where you find out when all things are going in then once that's in when that's once it's been tested and once that's gone through its paces a bit nothing then you can start design developing systems that see and manage of it so all right what else we got are there any plans for making dialogue and important part of missions I think we've already answered that yeah yeah like where you need to convince a bartender to tell you about that shady-looking guy yeah just all the all the dialogue work yeah yeah needs a lot of planning yep let's see we want more missions that we won't want well we want more missions once you acquire a crime stat that's not a question okay

  55. 00:44:28

you want go do that right now I'll just take the rest assure okay yeah and we want to give you those missions yeah they just take time and we we made one it was a super difficult one because we we figured that people who get to cry at five it's not easy to get to crimes that five yeah well okay roll back like you obviously you can go straight to work get there without even trying look you you you have to be intending to get to the crime step 5 and to stay there is a whole nother man you know you get PvP bounties on you and you know all over it's quite difficult you get many restrictions placed upon you so we made

  56. 00:45:18

this crazy mission where you have to kind of go and take out the Navy and so and the Hammerhead or you know several thank God so you know it's a start will we're gonna we're gonna keep keep that up it's we've already answered the next question which is you know all 80 bead missions involve dropping things off in a cargo Locker he is when can we give things directly to a player well yeah directly to an NPC is something we really we really really want to focus on now like you know doing the kind of like shady drug drop-off so even just you know being being passed for things we you've probably noticed that the admin guys aren't accepting boxes anymore they haven't been for a while they did for a small window of

  57. 00:46:06

time and but their behavior it's one of the hardest things to straighten strangely like you see in other games and that whenever anything is passed over like that moment it goes from your hand to their hand yeah no you see it jumped yeah it's it's strangely you know very difficult to do but something we do on a focus on yeah and as the debate is raging in chat it's it's socks it's SOC s SOC s some sucks just-just-just when asked the beginning one s at the end M hmm we some of those things we had to we had a it's it's we have many discussions

  58. 00:46:54

about how to pronounce things internally Idris or Idris and then how to spell things how to abbreviate things and we had it we had a big we had a big come together I don't remember how long ago now and everybody everybody got it need to get on the same page because some people were calling it this and some people are calling this they're doing it in the chat right now and so it was decided it was mandated Sox s OCS it's shorter I don't I couldn't tell you why let's see can we get a way to track multiple missions at the same time it sure would help when you have multiple things to do near the same place as pickups and drop-offs mission trackers are always a pain in the button in games we made the decision but you could only track one thing at a time

  59. 00:47:41

mmm because some missions are extremely complicated lots of mission markers up and it'd be very confusing for a player if we by default allowed them to just track as many things as they wanted um but obviously we've delivery missions but which are much more simplistic mm-hm I can see how that'd be helpful it's just you know you can't make a system that fits everything necessarily I mean we could allow them to like ruin their own experience if we wanted you know just you know allowed to track all these things maybe give you a warning but you know it may produce some weird results but I think for now for the forseeable until we get the contract manager rework

  60. 00:48:36

that it will remain the same I think there's an argument to be made for allowing player agency in those situations whenever possible you know it's it's you see it in a lot of a lot of MMOs that have fully customizable UI is in people make some absolutely gaudy you know you look at it like how does anybody play with this it's a yeah used to be you know I used to you need to do like a rating on World of Warcraft or found fancy you look at some of the you eyes the players have built for themselves it's like you can't even see the game anywhere you're looking at a wall of different colored text at this point if there was just an option at the top is basically allow multiple tracking yeah and the player decides to do that then I am absolutely fine that's what I was

  61. 00:49:24

getting yeah yeah I think there's an argument for but I'm saying like if by default right right I don't want to like new players or you know inexperienced players we don't want to like assault with all these these markers on the screen at once yeah some of the some of the watch faces for my watch are absolutely ridiculous it's like the highest voted one I was looking at the other day is like I don't know how you read that it's just a clutter of twenty different complications or whatever and it's like I don't I don't know how to read it but some people do so yeah given people that agency let's see are there any upcoming plans for passenger transport missions now that we have things like the any job that's excited i the phoenix for luxury

  62. 00:50:12

transport as well as the valkyrie the prowler the Cutlass for troop transport maybe something as simple as picking up a group of NPCs from one place and dropping them off at another place oh as simple as well as simple as that just hurting a bunch of NPCs and getting them to go into one place and getting them all to sit down you know all the strap in and then fly them up than getting a get up and getting them to get off the ship very simple luke yeah yes various and we've just managed to get and kind of like AI can step off of ships now certain ships to certain ships like yeah there are so many ways on and off of ships obviously and and it's easier to get off of the ship than it is to get

  63. 00:51:00

back on it as I'm sure all players know who have landed on an uneven surface right so obviously they'll be probably done from landing pads or at least some flat ground and I imagine if we can get AI off of a ship we can also get a AI on a ship and they should be able to use all the same animations that players do to sit in the locations for place in so yes again if you want to do this properly we want dialogue these mute can it be like basically moving cargo with legs around like you know otherwise yeah you want dialogue you want to kind of entertain them as well you want like you don't want to just have them again cargo with

  64. 00:51:48

legs just sat there and happy and you want missions that want you to take on places like see certain things and and then we have to make it like the law system be able to understand kidnapping seized what does that do to your crimes that I don't know you know if hijackers come on and like stop waving the gun around what these guys do but there's it I'm sure it sounds simple it's not yes yeah it's not that simple but we we have the beginnings of this yeah well I mean I am legally bound by YouTube's comment and feel teeters state that my favorite ship is a particular exploration ship

  65. 00:52:37

but my real ship that I've been looking forward to something like the Genesis Star liner for passenger transport has been I don't know why I have no idea why it absolutely fascinates me but I I think it's the I think it's the idea of interactive cargo I think it's the idea of cargo that can get sick cargo they can get pissy cargo that cuz I can yell at me or get into fights or these within each other it's it's it's I personally I'm speaking only as myself here the possibilities for passenger trains that are one of the most exciting and and and gameplay rich things for me and it's it's it's one of those I just kind of wait for it it's like Genesis Starliner me what's interesting about you saying there is is so I am a glad for punishment is

  66. 00:53:25

something we've like they do for work once and so for a while you take away the fact that they're people and speak and and obviously it's much nicer experience to be like the host upon aboard a ship but we want to do cargo for is volatile or has a time limit all can't touch space right or or can't be put next to this type of thing or you know and like and what you're talking about there is soaring and muriatic acid exactly like is is what you're talking about in extrapolated into people like yeah and we want to be able to do all that kind of thing but simple simplistic like don't shake this this box and and stuff yeah yeah no chemistry I'd say

  67. 00:54:20

what are your intentions work we're almost out of time here we'll see if we can cram a couple more of these in here it don't touch the desk I have put it together at all I stole it from the from the commissary what are your intentions regarding mission gating ie requirements that a player must fulfill in order to accept a mission for instance does it make sense for players who only own a GLaDOS Gladius to accept transport missions which they cannot possibly complete well there's ship rentals and Stephanie I mean there are there are ways to to achieve those things but basically mission gating in general what are your thoughts on on restricting access to certain mission missions to people based on what ships they own or ok not based on what ships you own obviously you can rent a different ship you can work as a party and and accept

  68. 00:55:13

these missions and put them into someone else's ship you can yeah so not not based on that if you have a Gladius then like what we will do is we will put all the missions in genres as it were and like in folders fit and you can close the box folder you know the cargo fold up you aren't you aren't capable of doing that so you you'll never get mixed up with that and what you'll probably only ever really have like the first mission from every cargo kind of Korea sir organization you'll only have the first mission because you've not started progression so when it comes to gates progression like reputation those yeah yeah very hard gates like criminality like if you have an active crime stat on

  69. 00:56:01

you certain organizations won't have anything to do with you certain organizations might be more interested in you but when it comes to like level five wanted no one wants you know one of the top ten on like the watchlist like working for them because that's just a dead giveaway like not even a criminal would one that someone so recognizable working so yeah very hard like barriers to that and then there are these reputational ones that we're working on which is you know I might be I might have a high reputation with Miles Eckart but that makes me like not favorable by someone who doesn't like miles a car or you know it's just I guess it's it's how do these people

  70. 00:56:51

Novus these relationships and where and how much does it affect them but gates will be we have gates now they're very simplistic you'll you'll notice maybe that like the bounty missions there's an introductory mission and once done it unlocks a whole host of offers from other people right there'll be an easy mission once you've completed that you look you start getting off and medium ones and then hard ones and we're expanding that for free eight but there I mean that's so simplistic such a simplistic gating system and whereas we are going towards this reputation as gate are there plans to implement faction wide bounties an example would be like kill nine nine to nine tails pilots and you get or kill or just kill

  71. 00:57:38

nine tails by it's that's what they're saying kill nine tails pilots and you get $250 credits per ship you shoot down like not a go to an extra go to a point then stop kinda like an openin just hey you you you you fight against this faction for the next three hours and however man you kill we pay you kind of thing yep yeah so there are short-term plans and long-term plans like the long-term plans are that we that as I was talking about realities reputation right so if you got to a certain reputation with a security company like oh my crusader security or someone like that a law enforcement agency you could be deputized and therefore you could go around and start getting money for anyone you arrest arrest you know and shoot at the sky type of body

  72. 00:58:29

whatever whatever form the rest is are currently and like for instance right now a rest is an empty function that has remove crimes that next and we have to have that because otherwise you get in this death loop with a rest like a landing zone when there's security kill you so that is the arrest function right now but obviously you can imagine that it'll send you to prison and that will be the arrest loop from there on or and you'll be allowed to surrender and stuff like that stuff I'll be going into yeah but so yeah you can imagine the now I forgot the question is it faction wide yes short term the CDF is a I think it's

  73. 00:59:25

some kind of city that's run by the advocacy so we will be introduced introduced in a mission that should you have a right credentials you are able to basically do that you can scan a ship and you will be able to see all the people on it and all of their crime stats and each of their crime stats if they have a crimes that will be worth some amount of money to you this this is players this is AI like obviously we can have to balance very carefully crime stat level one which a lot of people have it'll be hardest to get cramps at level one by the way because we're the way we were implementing fines now we're not taking the money straight off if you we're

  74. 01:00:13

leaving them on you so we can bring a lot more down into crimes that in to misdemeanors rather than where they are now a felony but crime step one we don't really want people going around murdering crimes that once again huge rewards so that should be low and where is cramps top-five you know so yeah yeah the vera plant we are working on them actively and for these short-term ones and the long-term ones are much more like at I think the idea of them being perks to to like you know we've worked hard enough for this security company that they now deputize you is really cool last question are there plans to implement more missions and contracts that don't sound like suspicious

  75. 01:01:01

underhanded or criminal jobs we were talking a little bit about this before the show I was I was I was in spectrum I just the other day just watching the chat and somebody was somebody was and what I thought was a pretty valid complaint quite honestly in that like all the mission givers are shady shady Wow and this person like I don't want to play shady the reward was renegade they obviously play some Mass Effect because I don't want to play renegade no I guess I want to be a good person I wanna play a good person I want take missions from good people why is everybody I'm taking a mission from such a piece of crap and when he said this to me I was like yeah yeah absolutely right like it's it's one I'll just I'll obviously raise with the writers like who come up with these mission gibbous like well am i dropping

  76. 01:01:51

someone else in it yeah yeah but there there are two security guys oh no longer is this okay okay and before you touch something man yeah right so there is two security guys who were gonna be on horizon or is on whatever and will and they are good guys you know they I guess our first good guys but yeah it's it until you said that I hadn't really realized they live in the gray like Battaglia she's not bad bad it's just not gonna yeah yeah I think maybe the fact that she's in left ski and looks a little rundown makes you

  77. 01:02:41

think you know she's shady but it's probably the most great pitch echo is about bad yeah yeah bad there's no one ever true istic yeah there's no one else true is it yes you know Hurston is corporate greed and I'm just gonna default to thinking they're evil whatever Eckhart is based on Phil Miller so he's obviously he's space huh folk he's obviously a terrible terrible person yeah yeah but it's a real eye-opener that really when I say that I'm usually happy planet away from Phil just make sure he's not going to crush it come crashing to the door like the kool-aid man all right that's it for this week's show guys thank you so much for taking your time out of your day to hang out with us chat a little bit about missions this will be the last SCL for a
