[Music] w hi there I'm Sherry I'm the archist here at cig and welcome to another edition of L makers Guide to the Galaxy for those who have never seen lore makers guide this is a segment in which a member of the lore team goes over one of our many systems and we talk about the story the history and the science behind each of
- 00:00:53
the known systems in the known Galaxy uh you can view the star map that we're using on our website at Roberts Space Industries Starmap pretty easy to find glorious to explore I highly recommend it and this week in honor of Gamescom which is the source of many of the party pictures you've seen on our website we are going to cover Goss all right so let's go to gos now Goss is a system that is first and foremost known for its beauty it's situated near a unique phenomenon known as the Olympus pool which is a strange Gathering of cosmic dust that is both radiative and reflective which uh means that bands of color like turquoise and gold are visible from the surface of the planets in the gos system which also
- 00:01:42
leads which has led to a booming tourist industry a lot of the economy and Goss is driven almost entirely by tourism because this thing the Olympus pool is not something that can be seen anywhere else in the Galaxy this is just this cool beautiful thing that you know wild people it's great even though it is a tourist based economy it is able to produce its own resources it has a Bread Basket Planet it's got a planet with a huge biodiverse biome it's got a little uee Outpost H you know it's pretty much the system that has it all and if I wasn't already living in tiak as an archist at the ark I would definitely want to live in Goss so right here you can see that gos
- 00:02:30
is a binary star system you have two k type main sequence Stars which burn orange they're a little bit cooler than our own sun and also more long life I for example the stars in the gos system are about 14 billion years old which is over three times as old as our system our own stars like four billion is now um as you can see here from the orbits the uh planets here they don't go in between between the stars but they they Circle all the way around it in what's called a circumbinary orbit also known as P type now other types of orbig exist like the St type where you will get planets that Circle only one of the binary stars or like maybe you'll have one binary
- 00:03:21
star that circled and another one that circled planets and those those are like for stars that are very very poor apart but in this case these stars are close together circle around a berry Center which is um it's a center of mass between two or more Bodies In Space uh everything that you know has an orbit you know there there's a berry Center involved um like Earth and Moon I mean not everything has an or that's a ber Center involv scratch that you the Earth and Moon do have a ber Center in between them but the Berry Center is deep within earth and so it so it appears that the Moon orbit are like a central point and then there are other systems like Chon and Pluto which have a berry Center that's outside of them so they they appear to dist orbit each
- 00:04:08
other which is the case here with the gos system binary Stars very cool very common in the universe we're founding we're finding but um for some reason the uee has not found very many jump points that leak to Binary systems and it is unknown why this has happened but it is how things have unfolded now right here we have gos one it is a terrestrial planet is known as the Bread Basket of the system majority of farming of the planet is done here along with you mineral resource harvesting Etc it's you know it's Lush it's green it's quite lovely it's got a big population of people and they have very very strict property laws so that if you were born on gos one you may own property but if you were not born on GH gos one you're essentially sh out of luck they're not going to let you buy any any any property buy up any Farmland
- 00:04:57
uh part of the reason is that they want to maintain their personal hold on the economy uh they want to maintain the fragile delicate environment and they don't want corporations butting their noses in to their business and on the other hand you have Cassel GS 2 it is a tourism based Planet it is a lush ocean planet with islands and small continents and an incredible variety of coastlines over various biomes of the planet you can get your tropical vacation beach you can get your Norwegian FS you can get your incredible craggy Pacific Northwest beaches you can get like any any Beach you can possibly think of is going to be here in Cassel which is not pronounced castle and the locals are very very picky about
- 00:05:47
that it hasn't been terraformed it has its own incredibly diverse biome um a incredibly diverse ecosystem full of different kinds of ocean life that are not found anywhere else in the universe um and even though it does have this this incredibly attractive Lush uh oceany beachy climate it isn't always entirely successful it suffered a lot because of the restrictions imposed on it by the Messa regime and the economy is currently in the process of recovering which can be which is pretty well Illustrated in Liar one of the cities on the planet which is located at the base of a mountain along a beautiful Coastline but they've had a lot of trouble attracting people to their particular City and have consequently weeded out some of the local culture and
- 00:06:34
built in things that they think people might be attractive to attracted to kind of like a Disneyland approach um and it's not not exactly working but they're trying their best anyway I would love to visit gos I would love to live gos to Cassel I would love to live there but as someone who wasn't born on the planet I might have a TR I might have a little bit of troubl making a foothold and finally we have Goss 3 which is home home to a uee naval base and Hospital complex it is largely undeveloped uh mainly because of the uee presence on the planet it is very wet there's there's lots of rain lots of humidity it's not a single biome Planet by any means but it does have quite a bit of jungle you for people to get lost in it is a terraform super
- 00:07:23
Earth uh it is if you want to land there you know if you ever feel like it you do need to make maintain a pass from the UE military to land at all so keep that in mind if you ever want to explore the incredible jungles of gos 3 and if you look here in the background you can see kind of like an attempt at the Olympus pool right here um I do want to emphasize it is not a nebula nebula contr of popular belief are while they appear dense from the surface of Earth and from other planets they are not actually dense when you get up close you just kind of like fly through regular space you're not going to know you're you're in in a giant cloud of beautiful colorful dust because that's just not how it
- 00:08:10
works so anyway with that science gripe out of the way I'm going to bring us back to the center here so we can see the stars Zoom all the way out again and that is gosth it is a small system it's gloriously beautiful it has many many jump points tourism based economy and is fun to visit if you can live there you're very lucky have a wonderful day and thanks for watching Lord Maker's guide
