[Music] w hi everyone uh welcome to another episode of L makers Guide to the Galaxy uh my name is Adam Weezer associate writer here at cig Los Angeles uh and I'm one of the members of the lore team that is working here on Star Citizen and Squadron 42 uh for those who haven't
- 00:00:54
seen the show lore makers is a series where a member of the lore staff takes you uh to a system that'll appear in the game and give you some insight to the history and maybe some of the the properties about the the system that uh uh we thought when we we started putting them together so on today's show um we are going to take you to a system that can't seem to escape its name and that system is castra so uh we're going to start here on Earth just put this on in now castra uh is actually an ancient Roman term which describes um land used by the military for defensive purposes so that seems to be the the problem that they're uh they're having is outliving the fact that uh during the Cold War
- 00:01:43
with the Shian this system was a military only system that was used to basically ensure that uh if an attack ever did happen um that we would be prepared for it now we've just zoomed in over to castra and as you can see the the here is massively huge which is why we're we're so zoomed in on it so as as we back it up I'll give you a little perspective on it um this is the other thing about castra which is really really interesting not only is it kind of stuck in its past it also has this B type main sequence star at the center now this thing is is genuinely is genuinely massive when compared to the the Sun at the heart of our system it's uh about four times as massive as our sun and it's close to 300 times as
- 00:02:32
bright um it is blue white in color so this is an accurate representation of what the uh the Sun so look at um it's also the Beast Ty type stars are are interesting for a lot of different reasons uh which we don't have time to get into but they are often referred to as being very energetic and uh they are also deemed to have relatively short lifespans at least on a on a a stellar scale this thing Liv lives anywhere from like 10 to 100 million years while our son normally lives close to uh about 10 billion years so only a fraction of uh of what our son uh lives to so as we uh look here one of the uh so it's a two-planet system it's cter one cter 2
- 00:03:21
and I'm going to back out for one second because the important thing to show you as to why this uh system has been stuck in the Fate that it is is that it has five jump points here the most important one being to Oya right up there now Castor was first discovered in 2544 by upe military Pathfinders that were searching this side of space just to see if they could find any any additional systems out there 14 years prior the up had their first encounter with the Shion and things did not necessarily go so well so the military was scrambling to make sure that uh the Eastern side of the empire would uh you know there weren't any weak spots there that the Shan could come through well when Castro was first uh charted they noted that there wasn't a lot of
- 00:04:08
interest there was I think unremarkable was the term used to describe it well that changed decades after uh it was first discovered when this jump to Oya uh was found what was also found in Oya that really made uh the the government kind of take attention to it was a small uh pocket of Shian who had basically started their their own civilization on Oya now that this system Caster was directly connected to a system with Shion the milit military took great interest in the system and just flooded it with money even put a a large kind of like orbital platform uh out in space to be able to handle Capital ships and long range bombers that would come through the area now the Shion settlement on Oya of uh basically they they fled and this
- 00:04:56
became part of the perline system which meant castra was is like one jump away from uh from being directly on the front lines uh when uh when this happened they they they flooded a lot of money in and it just kind of sat there no uh the cold war with the Shion didn't progress and eventually a few hundred years later as tensions died down the UE soon realized that the S there was no reason to keep the system under strict military control anymore so uh what they did is they Ed to start opening it up to the public and let the public come in and uh hopefully bring new life to this system um sweetheart land deals were given to businesses and and to people willing to move on in but even still to this day
- 00:05:43
there are certain sections of the system especially on uh ccom the second planet that are strictly reserved for the military uh just in case now if we go down to More granual Level here we'll go look at cter one uh there's um this is a terrestrial coreless world no real resources on it worth mentioning uh the most interesting thing about it is its nickname Bullseye which was given by the UE military which supposedly used this planet for target practice uh moving on we're going to go to the second and only uh habitable planet in the system and this is uh cascom which is actually short for castra command it's a military designation that was given to the planet when Once the the military moved in um to this day a lot of the the politicians
- 00:06:31
in castra are not the biggest fans of that name and kind of wish you would have something a little different but it's been around so long that it's stuck now when they did terraform this planet they did it extremely fast um wanting to to make sure that they could get uh get in as soon as possible once the Shion threat was detected nearby uh this led to what some believe it's is a very pronounced cloud cover that exists over this planet some think that maybe they terraformed it too fast and this was a side effect what it did do is it create a very very Scenic um view which uh you'll be able to see in the city of Sherman which was literally cut and built into the very top of Mount Olympus here on cascom now uh they call Sherman the island in the the city um excuse me
- 00:07:20
they actually call it the island in the sky because perched to top of the mountain top like that with the cloud cover cover underneath it it looks as such now since it was was a base for a lot of government and Military stuff prior to the civilians moving in um Sherman is known for uh it being kind of a really pristine presentation of uh architecture uh Hinduism which is a little more auster rounded curves looks a little bit like bunkers um that happened that style was very prominent when the the the planet was first introduced where the first was first terraformed uh and then monumentalism which was uh pushed by uh Corson Messer I 5 who was a a brutal version of the messers who really pushed forward a very
- 00:08:07
strong and authoritarian itarian kind of like architecture style which can still be found on this planet uh once civilians and and uh um companies were able to move on in uh the most famous company that did make the Trek here was Krueger Intergalactic uh seizing upon the great trade Lanes the the solid infrastructure and the relative safety of the castra system over Magnus where it had been based previously um in 2833 uh most prominently there was uh the president of cascom Man by the name of Andre noev who pushed really hard to try to give castra a new image trying to Rebrand it away from it merely being a trading Hub and a military point of Interest so he started uh the island in the sky uh campaign all around the verse
- 00:08:57
to show the softer side of the the system and to highlight Sherman as maybe a tourist destination or or something that could maybe bring in different people and more of its own culture um while some of the strides were made and many more people did move in uh nothing really seemed to stick to really distinguish castra uh from the name that it was given when the military first decided to use it as a defensive position so for all you uh haulers Traders looking to maybe get a foothold in a system near the the sh on border with good infrastructure a large orbital plat uh platform out in its uh out out in its reaches and a very interesting beat type main sequence star um you should come check out castra at some point my name is Adam Weezer this has been another installment of La makers
