   [Music] hello I'm Sher hyberg the archist here at Cloud Imperium games welcome to a new edition of The L makers Guide to the Galaxy um for those of you who have not seen lore makers guide before it is a segment in which the lore creators of the game get together and discuss the science and history and myth behind each of our systems and today I am delighted to be able to talk about terara The Shining Jewel of the

   UE no no no terara is more like the terrible center of the uee right now Earth is the real Center of uh of this galaxy spoken like someone who is jealous of all the Commerce and population and activity that is happening in Tera so it goes so it goes but let me you know I guess if I have to do this I I'll do this let's let's talk about terrible terrible oh excuse me Tera kind kind of rude there isn't he it it it just it just slipped out it just slipped out but uh where's where's all this hatred coming from it's uh it's coming from I think tera's attitude towards them being better and everything there being kind of like perfect and just like awesome so uh well well I'm just going to tell you the thing about Tara is you might think of us all the time and like tell tell us

   we're bad but we we really just don't think about you at all that's that's the problem they they don't think about the rest of you e um um and it's kind of a it's kind of too bad but teror was a system that was discovered back in 2516 by win Ying song Who was the chief surveyor and engineer of the ue's Eastern expansion program oh we may as well why don't we just go and check it out yeah take us take us to where he is now uh terara um the name is a little derivative of Earth or remind you of that uh don't blame winging song on that um his uh uh Eastern expansion program actually named this system uh 342a which has a much better ring to it than Tera so I it's kind of a shame we got away from that oh yeah we all know people remember long sequences of numbers much

   better than they remember words yeah so anyway Tera is a small system with a sun that's almost identical to ours it's a g- type main sequence star um it has four planets three of which are in the naturally habitable zone unlike Earth which only has two um it's a next of seven jump points a natural Nexus of seven jump points and maybe there'll be even more to find so with that uh large amount of jump points all things in the uee do eventually flow through Tera the star was named Tera Nova after the planet which was a bit of an unusual move but it had stuck uh the UE approved of that name and here it is today all right so let's move out to

   Arrow here the first planet in the system this is Arrow it is the first planet in the system it's a misop planet which inhabits the kind of a gray area between dwarf planets and major planets um it is full of Rich minerals but so far the heat on the planet is a little bit too much for anyone like human or machine to go down and mind what's there but eventually with the power of human Innovation we will get there and we will be able to to harvest the incredible amount of minerals that are present within the planet and that's another thing about terara that's a little infuriating is that they just believe that human progress is all that is needed for this universe to be shaped in human the way Humanity wants it to be

   you know it's uh whether it's you know us finally figuring out the science to get really close to a sum that we were never ever intended to get really really close to just so we could extract resources for more trade which benefits them and all that fun stuff it's very indicative of the political movement that you find very apparent here it's basically this power center is here in terara it's called the transitional list and they are very Progressive they believe that terara should actually be the capital of the entire uee as crazy as that sounds versus the centralists who are a uh a a political entity group that that believes in keeping Earth and Humanity these roots though ugly they may be at some point uh as a reminder of where of where we all began so um yeah

   that's uh one little strange thing about Terror just the idea that if we just believe hard enough that we can make this right that it can go right well that's what they said about space travel too and look at us we've colonized the whole galaxy no not the whole galaxy not the you guys may want to but uh we haven't got there yet anyway these two moons of era right here are C asteroids petrum and Petrus uh they're a little misshapen and I remind you again that the star map is not to scale and it's not true to shape we are hoping in the future to get that addressed so let's zoom out here and let's visit Pike the second planet from the sun here we go it is technically in the habitable zone but it's a little bit too hot for

   people um so instead of having people on the surface there's a big you know you know there's this Marvel of Technology there that's a automated mining system uh it makes it so that people don't need to risk their lives doing uh High danger high stakes Mining and instead it's put in the hands of automation it is maintained by professionals who visit the planet every so often to make sure that nothing's going wrong and to perform maintenance on the robots and the Min the wealth of minerals found on this planet is largely responsible for the wealth of terara yeah um along with the wealth in the asteroid belts and the asteroid cluster so yeah there there's just a lot of good resources here that are both export that are exported to the rest of the Galaxy and keep Tera from

   becoming too polluted yeah I mean they uh they have a lot of resources here you know they they they didn't have the Cradle of humanity but there is a lot of rocks you can rip out of there out of out of these planets here um but again I I I just think the the Teran obsession with technology can be a little bit too much back uh August 9th 2922 there was a center buy that was hanging out in space here in terara near one of the major shipping lanes and on that buoy was a virus which was being sent to every ship that came in contact with it and that virus spread from ship to ship and a few days later this virus which the fingerprints on it uh uh earned it the name death G uh basically infected uh hundreds and thousands of sensor Suites

    and ships all around the empire spread to all these different systems and just one day everyone who had a death G in their sensor system just went to straight gay grayscale and they couldn't fly it Dr it drove flight to a halt in many systems it killed a lot of this very prosperous trade in Tera it drowned that to the halt all because of this technology that the Teran just believed a little bit too much in to uh to to watch out for for dangers like this so uh yeah it's nice you have resources but uh run by technology but it's not always the best thing I mean viruses happen every day but clearly the only virus that matters is the one that happened here in Tera am I right everybody yeah yeah you are actually thank you thank you for making my point I appreciate

    that oh where's this hostility coming from anyway here is terara itself it is a naturally occurring super Earth with low density so that the gravity is quite within Teran quite within human limits so that people can Thrive pretty easily on it um it has a environment that didn't need to be terraformed so it was basically ready made for people to move in um there's evidence that a civilization once was on this planet uh it's no longer there um so there was there were no sentient life forms to uh Massacre unlike some other planets I can name the environment is largely unspoiled by human activity uh when people moved in there was a movement to keep the environment from getting uh too polluted unlike what Humanity did to Earth very s story um we're still

    dealing still dealing with the Fallout from the heavy pollutants that have affected the balance on Earth to this day um and so when we moved to Tara the goal was to make sure that did not happen uh luckily we were able to keep that up so Tara currently has this it's well known for its lovely balance between uh nature and Technology and so you get wonderful views um from the various Landing zones yeah you know I'll it's just a pretty nice place to be yeah I'll I'll give terara uh props for especially Prime which is a very beautiful city that that really does balance uh technology and the the cityscape along with the the nature around it it has you know what it pretty much has everything

    there except for a really a native culture of tone that that it can really identify with it's just oh je yeah just so if if you're in the vapid places this is great great beautiful place to visit but uh yeah not much past that terara has its own culture it's this beautiful mix of cultures from all over the Galaxy and so you you have these this this combination of human elements and alien elements coming together and you can uh you can find pretty much everything you could possibly want that just comes through terara and is there and including it's lovely that beautiful uh kind of like rock formation that they believe might tie back to a former species that lived on that planet which is which is very beautiful to visit and that's why the Teran have turned it into a tourist trap which creates a lot of jobs for people who live on Tera but uh

    and boost the economy yeah and that that seems to be what Tera is all about it's less about Humanity it's more about tera's economy and and there there are a lot of businesses that that thrive here on 2722 uh Jay Harris Arnold created Anvil Aerospace uh here in Tera um in 2913 Jennifer frisker very famously moved origin jump works from Earth to Tera it was very controversial um and even recently uh the Teran Senator Kelo alar uh uh basically lobbied on the behalf of the giso corporation which is a Shion corporation uh so that they could have business licenses to run CTR refueling stations all around the Empire which is you know which is great for

    haulers and and it's a great way to have a lot of that uh trade and money uh go out of our Empire at the end of the day so it's uh yeah well terara has always been very good about Progressive relations with aliens and if not for a terrorist progress Progressive relationship with the cion we may still be under the thumb of the Messa regime that's uh that's very true and it's it's hard to deny that point and uh if we want to go to our fourth planet in the system this is Jen uh uh it's pronounced again oh uh oh is it yes okay okay all right yeah all right see teren always going correcting you on pronunciations and stuff like that so this is a it's not represented in the uee Senate it's a mainly a diplomatic and Military Planet so it's a good place

    to talk about the political influence that Tera has exerted on the uee over these past centuries uh it goes back all the way to the Messa era where teror really was the uh the focal point of uh anti- Messer um information or anti-er activism uh during those those dark times there is even the tragic story of Assan Kieran who in 2638 uh proposed an amendment that would have basically given terara sovereignty from uh the UE um he lost his subsequent uh Senate race which he claimed was due to voter fraud um that day that that's OD he he did he did go missing shortly thereafter it was a very sad tragic

    point and I I I have to I have to agree that the the Teran were good at being able to pull the Messa regime out of there because if it wasn't for teren akara and 2789 who independently negotiated a pece with the Shian which basically undercut the the power of the Messa regime and led to their uh downfall just just a few years later and that's that's all well and good and it was it was really nice to be a part of that but that that that attitude still continues today where uh their current Senator Mira noo uh has still proposed that the center and the capital of the uee move from Earth to Tera this happened just uh just uh 2942 just four years ago so you would think you guys would just be happy being a part of this greater greater entity

    rather than wanting to make that entity your own oh yeah it's not about making it our own it's about moving the capital to a more centrally located place with more jump points so that more people can visit it more decisions can be made by more people and more people can participate in the Democratic process so they say so they say anyway um that about covers it I'd like to mention the Hang cluster real quick it's a cluster of asteroids they they naturally occur in space they usually exist at L grangian points which are natural natural gravity Wells between major bodies major celestial bodies it's got some good minerals in it um and we also have out here and I'd like to point out the Marisol belt real quick here on the outs of the system it forms a protective ring which captures incoming asteroids and has kept the Collision of asteroids on many major bodies in the system too
