bulkhead breach in progress good luck okay this is it Brock are you ready hell yeah yeah but uh what if they come through another door you're joking right well I mean what if they just want us to think that they're going to break through this door but they go use another one instead Brock command just told us they were coming through this door yeah well what if they're wrong or lying are you serious yeah yeah you are okay Brock why why why would command lie to us I don't
- 00:02:03
know maybe they're working with the Pirates but they're our Command that's what they'd want you to think if they were pirates okay Brock listen to me and listen to me real good command are not Pirates they're not against us and they did not intentionally lose your laundry last Thursday they definitely didn't try to assassinate You by planning a chicken bone in your soup last night now please we're about to be attacked if we could just concentrate on that that door there for just like one single minute okay but it goes past that doesn't it Kane think about it and add everything together first there's the crew look at us the cooks poisoned us half to death with salmonella the other day and then remember when someone accidentally turned off the barriers on the flight deck and Jake and Trevor got blown into
- 00:02:50
space it's madness madness I say Brock just just listen to yourself I me it's like you're saying that the guy that put itching powder in your underwear is out to get you it's just a prank these are all coincidences maybe just a bit of bad luck or something but I mean what about that time that shipment of avocados fell over on Jerry faulty storage equipment my ass or or what about when those stock rifles backfired and blew up in the faces of those two grunts second rate ammunition eh starting to see a pattern here okay fine Brock even if you have a point we're going to get blasted if they come through that door and we're not ready ow hostiles down sweep the corridor tight pattern keep low and stick to the walls Roger Roger stop saying my name shut up Roger attention
- 00:03:40
simulation terminated Pirates win again I repeat look at the little baby taking a nap Brock I should have you spaced out the air lock for this yeah if command doesn't do it first bulkheads are you twoo sleeping on the job again you two had Shields and you didn't even manage to get one single shot off at the enemy what are you going to do in a pirate or vanuel attack no wait I know what you're going to do you'll die because you're useless that there now that's what we call a nice Hall
- 00:04:30
good good joke mate really though what's our Target did that sound like I was joking you think mate it's a bloody Bengal a UE controlled Bengal at that I signed on his crew to make money not going a suicide mission all right you're new so I'm going to forget you said any of that listen kid that there is the imperum worst crew in the entire UE we could attack that wheel in an aurora with one rocket no guns and an onire power plant and we probably come out on top trust me they're harmless enough chatter gentlemen it's time to and the turrets arm the Torpedoes warm up the shield stoke the fire and put on the kettle we've got some Marines to kill and we better get
- 00:05:19
it done before the tea gets cold wow it looks like they even went as far as reskinning some of the space suits we created yeah that was really impressive um I think that's kind of it's definitely going to be the future of the uh Star Citizen fan Community creating stuff like that U you know our first Machinima am I saying that right Machinima Machinima Machinima I don't computer movie hey everybody Welcome to around the verse I'm oh no I did we did it
- 00:06:08
backwards I'm B lasnik that's all right hey everybody I am Sandy Gardner I'm the VP of marketing and this is your weekly look at star citizens development welcome to round the verse so Sandy where is Star Citizen Alpha 2.4 where is Star Citizen Alpha 2.4 that is an amazing question and Star Citizen 2.4 is currently on the PTU and we are looking at bringing it live very very soon we're still uh we've seen a good Improvement on the network issues we talked about last week it's just not quite ready to go live but uh as our PTU testers can tell you we are we're getting there and uh all this work will improve the final game Buccaneer sale is over and it was a really great success I managed to pick myself up one and uh I hope that nobody out there is planning to do anything
- 00:06:55
nefarious with them it was it really was a truly spectacular sale the Buccaneer is already one of our most popular ships by the Numbers it's just after the civilian variant or the Hornet so we're we're really excited about this one the winning gun in the Drake interplanetary customer survey has been selected every backer with a Buccaneer on their account will receive a bearing c78 ballistic Cannon and those who said they'd eat the food shame on you um then to clarify for folks who are confused uh you will receive one gun for every Buccaneer on your account those are going to be distributed on Monday so please keep your bucaneer on your account until then what and then get rid of it then you can melt it if you want oh oh I see and then I get to keep the gun yes yes wow tricky our next concept sale is the
- 00:07:45
Drake dragonfly which I'm really looking forward to for all the Pirates out there this is going to be a good one this is our space motorcycle it's a totally different aesthetic for start season you know we we like to bring in vehicles from all different walks of life you know from race cars to rocket ships to fighter jets and this is letting us bring in this kind of new infusion of culture it's it's a really cool one so expect more details about pricing and its release tomorrow on RTV sounds good the monthly report is now available so if you're curious what we were working on last month check it out on the com link yay and the subscriber flare goes live tomorrow what is it so the subscriber flare this month will be the takuetsu saber model it's included in 2.4 so it won't show up in your hang until it goes live but it will be attributed to accounts tomorrow check it
- 00:08:33
out cool and with that let's check in with our Studios from around the world for news from around the verse hey everyone welcome back to Cloud Imperium games Los Angeles I'm production coordinator garyan borck and we've got our one of our star QA testers Eric Petro so and here we are with this week's update out of Los Angeles studio so starting with the tech design team we've got one of our designers Matt Sherman he is working on the white box and actually moving on to the gray box for the uh Tech design for the buccaneer that you guys have recently seen that we've announced so on top of that on the ship art team we've got both uh concept artists and 3D modelers working on the interior modules for our large
- 00:09:21
caterpillar that's turned out to be a pretty cool and pretty massive ship so hopefully you guys will see some some pretty cool action coming out of that and on the 2.4 front we've got oh right now we're working on network stability uh looking at procedural planetary interactions uh mainly focus on stability for going into 2.4 PTU release so as always you know stability is one of our greatest priorities so it is something that it is being addressed we're working on it so hopefully you guys will see the the fruits of those labors pretty soon uh so once again I'm Daren I'm Eric uh see you guys next week hey guys Jake Ross here producer of the Austin studio and I'm here with you this week talk a little bit about what's going on here in Austin uh I want to talk about design first off um we are
- 00:10:09
looking ahead past 240 we've uh it's pretty well known now that we're going to have shopping out there for you guys we're going to have um what we're calling Tryon mode uh where you actually can try on the clothing and inspect the weapons that you're buying um so we've got the first little bits of shopping in so next we're going to move our attention to uh selling things uh we're trying to compete uh complete that that Loop so to speak of of um of buying something and then putting it in in in storage and inventory and then selling it back to uh to the shop um so working on the selling portion of that we've got um Robert Gaither over from from QA helping us out on the on the design side uh for for the selling design so um it'll be very similar interface probably to the uh to the to the buying and
- 00:10:56
shopping and stuff but um it'll be uh you know instead of you know buying things we'll be selling things so um uh in addition to that we're working on um uh Commodities so we've we've done a couple passes on Commodities in the past but we're looking to um to get a full list in place for all the different kinds of Commodities you guys will be able to to buy and sell in game that includes things like you know elements that you can uh can mine from asteroids and things like that you know to Gold to you know precious mineral and and uh to things like livestock and Grain and things you can grow and farm and stuff so um you know it's all very uh specific to this kind of Commodities design that that we have Pete McKay here in Austin
- 00:11:43
working on so running that by Tony and Todd papy and uh we'll have a first iteration of that um you know flushed out here pretty soon so that's exciting uh this week I wanted to talk a little bit about devops because we don't do that very often here and in devops is a huge part of uh of what we do here in Austin so I wanted to give a couple cool stats to you guys uh for the month of for the month of May we uh we sped up build times here in Austin um we were able to kind of put some tech in place that that uh removed some things from the pack files that weren't necessarily uh required at all times so it's sped up build times quite a bit which is good um we ran 60 uh Game Dev builds Which Game Dev is our main development stream here in Austin uh we ran 85 release builds which uh includes uh 240 uh so every you
- 00:12:34
know we Branch off of our main development stream into what we call release stream so our 240 stream which is what we're releasing 240 off of uh we ran 85 of those builds the in the month of May which is a lot uh we did uh we had 9,000 gigs of data uh come out of gamedev and uh 9,350 gigs of data out of our release streams so it's a lot of data um and then we deployed 98 internal servers um so uh for for all streams for Game Dev and release release stream so it's a couple of interesting stats there um you know I don't understand a lot of what goes into into the uh the the devop side of things but I know those guys do a great job and they um are constantly looking for ways to improve um the backend kind of infrastructure so that
- 00:13:23
the development team can can work uh you know simultaneously with uh with with the release schedule and not fall behind due to bad Bill times or things like that so um so shout out to those guys we really appreciate all they do as well uh I think that's uh that's all I got for you this week guys thanks I'll see you around hi everyone this is mickeey over in the UK and I'm with Matt Webster today um and we're going to talk a little bit about the future of the Pu really so um what exciting things are coming to the persist Universe L of exciting things some of which I can't quite talk about uh one thing I'm going to tell you about though is the uh pirate base that we're working on uh which we're hoping to get out as soon as we can but no time limits obviously we want to make sure it's looking cool uh the idea for the pirate base is this is
- 00:14:11
going to be the pirate version of Port alisar so we' be able to have a an area that's sort of similar but a lot more grungy a bit grittier maybe a little bit diesel punk asque I don't know yeah there's going to be some new shops and stuff in there as well it's going to sort of be a mirror but more I don't know less clean is a more is quite clean and sparkly and it's is going to be a bit more pirate tesque more dirt scattered around there people that don't wash that sounds pretty cool um so I'm trying to think what else is going into the the new stuff um I've been working with a few outsources that are working on hairstyles uh for the Pu and Squadron 42 um we finally got the um the base model for for the female um not sure
- 00:15:01
when that's going to be ready but the facial scans have been done and the body is all prepped uh clothing has been concepted so that's another thing that hoping to look not in the not so distant future hoping to get that polished up and in as soon as we can it's going to look awesome y um trying to think what else oh the audio stuff as well we've got some um good stuff being done in audio at the moment um this is all going to kind of go in when we're ready to ready to give it the best bang for its book we're not going to put it in before it's ready to go um we've got uh Ross working on some music logic so it means the music is going to be a lot more dynamic as you start going through the game so when you are just out and exploring you'll have a nice uh exploration type music and then as enemies start to attack you you'll the
- 00:15:50
the energy and the music will start to get ramped up uh it's going to sound if you're winning for example we're going to try and make it sound like give it a proper epic feel to the music get some stings in there things are going badly for you you're going to get a very Grim sounding um music coming into it's like sort of really sell that you are in trouble with this it's going to be awesome when it goes in um right I think that's all we got time for this week so we'll see you in the verse bye see you later everyone Brian from Frankfurt office um this week instead of running through all the disciplines we have a large amount of people here this week um one of them Sean Tracy as you guys know uh this week we have yourself we have uh Chris is out here we have uh Tony from
- 00:16:41
Austin uh we have Ricky from the UK there's another eight or nine people out here that's right right we've got people from every Studio absolutely busting at the seams but I mean everyone's coming together for good reasons to cover some pretty good strong topics things that we need to get sorted a lot of times when we work remote absolutely we make great progress and time zone hand over and all that stuff but if we could pull everybody together into a room for a week like we're doing now we can churn through stuff a lot quicker so what are some of the things you guys are covering this week well there's a lot of little stuff but there's some big ticket items and well some of the big ticket items all center around Squadron 42 so we've got Ai and cinematics and a lot of people would think that they're not necessarily related uh but within start a citizen
- 00:17:29
they absolutely are because we need to be able to Signal these AI to transition into the various cinematic modes that we've got we've got so much performance capture that we want to uh allow this player to experience we've got these huge name actors we want you to be within that story but at the same time we don't want to just cut out to a decoupled cut scene where camera is flying around we want you to be living in this world that's that's one thing I mean to TI of that that I was answering some questions earlier they're like oh are you going to do a transition and then and it's a just a big cut scene with no interaction right and the answer is it's all over the place there's so many things that we're creatively doing seamlessly right that sometimes the player un rails sometimes you cut away but only for certain reasons if it helps with story and all that and all that with the AI and that that's just that's
- 00:18:16
right and we need you know we got them reacting to you we need them having conversations with you we need them giving you missions we need uh all level all levels of different uh interplay between it and then we've got so much content that we have to get in so we have to figure out the best way to get it in because um sure we can do these the the kind of old style way we're actually plugging in very bespoke scripted sort of sequences uh but again when we've got hours and hours of cinematics when we've got hours and hours of gameplay that has to play between the two we have to be very intelligent over how we actually implement this this work and in part of that process at least that I've been involved in I mean we're creating a system that from the foundation is going to allow for all these different types of events the different Behavior the ways we want them triggered the the all the variables we want them to do and not
- 00:19:04
do that's right exactly um and that's really I think what a lot of that Focus has been on is is okay what is that solid foundation to get the rest of those just few questions uh that are unanswered get those sorted right and when we have so many questions like that um it's a lot easier for everybody to get together um because like you said like we we we collaborate really well across the studios but there is something to be said for all of the people being in one place because you get this one little question here this one little question here and before long you're death by thousand paper cuts uh because if you've got to wait a few hours for that answer you can't just really quickly come up with a nice design plan so um there's things we're adjusting like the animation pipeline uh to make it so that we can accomplish all these Ai and cinematics what kind of stuff have you have you had to tweak on one or two examples on on Pipeline
- 00:19:53
actually be able to pull that off uh one of the big ones is some tools that we do within Maya and our our motion Builder uh set up there's a big one that we use with a company called red N9 called scene manager and uh scene manager and asset manager is basically a way within Mya to take all our performance capture and basically two clicks and you're within Maya it builds up all the characters they've got all their weapon attachments and that saves so much time two clicks and it's and it's out to engine and we're sying time code and we're lining everything up exactly then you got to plug the audio in and things like that and then as a big bonus you know I wait wait wait oh oh we can't okay all right go go yeah well as a as a big bonus anyways for me personally is that the other two Tech directors on the entire project are here are senior Tech directors right so Carson wiel and Marco corbetta I talk about them a lot and everybody within the game industry
- 00:20:40
including me um needs to learn from somebody and luckily I can come out here and pick their brains about all sorts of stuff they're smart dudes and we know what's happening out here around procedural planets so and I and you know everybody's going to see stuff when they see stuff it's it's going to come here and you know you know I we can't wait to the point where we can actually show you more of what we're doing but what would you say as far as your at least your high level takeaway it's fine blowing it's really good yeah you're digging it yeah I mean I know scale is mind I know we're throwing you guys stuff you know back in LA and all that and you guys are are helping out but it's something else to come out here and see the latest of the latest do you know what I mean that's cool awesome we're going to shut up I've already run uh five minutes so thanks again for all the support and
- 00:21:29
you'll hear from us next week awesome thanks guys thanks next up Jared goes to the gym Jim Martin that is J sat down with Jim to talk about his career and the work he's done on Star season which dates back to the very very start of the campaign I walked right into that one thanks guys on this week's ATV interview we're sitting down with Concept artist and illustrator extraordinaire Mr Jim Martin Jim how you doing man Jared it's great to be here man AES than thanks for coming by I mean we don't get to see you in the office very often so it's always a treat when you can come by my pleasure and you got to see our new office for the first time
- 00:22:17
today it's pretty spectacular yeah you like those spaceship doors yeah SPAC I love it it's a great setup check this out too yeah no this is cool this is our Fan Cave all most of these things are things fans have sent us and whatnot some of the things are things that we buy but uh I'm a fan yes you are yeah we're we're happy you are because you have been working on Star citizenships since before the beginning I mean you you came on board in 2012 before we went live and whatnot uh we'll get to that I did I do want to start by talking about you and your career at first so uh for those of our fans who may not know who you are uh why don't you give us the quick rundown uh how didd you get your start in being a concept artist you know so I'm I'm a kid from uh Eureka California Humbolt up north um shout out to Hol all right humble
- 00:23:08
707 that's the area code all right so um you know I I uh grew up watching uh sci-fi loved it and um and left for college came down to LA and went to Cal State Northridge I was an art major and um and not really sure what to do with that I thought you were supposed to go into advertising right and um I got out and uh and I got hired as a PA on a Sci-Fi show right just a luck it was kind of a a lucky moment and um it was Star Trek the Space 9 it's like my alltime favorite show so whoa I'm watching it right now people following me on Twitter have been
- 00:23:55
watching me live tweeted for the last several weeks what season are you you on uh right now I'm in the middle of season 5 okay okay so it's it's yeah it's season 4 is probably my my favorite along with season six and s five five took a step back kind of thing but but uh it's I'm really I love D face night you know that was the show that really that really gave me uh an understanding of uh what it was to be a concept artist or illustrator in in the industry and um I kind of cut my teeth there and really it was a family environment where it was okay to try and fail and try again and and kind of build build your skill and um and you know I was there three years and uh yeah it I didn't know how good I had it cuz I was young and eager you know and and I left after three years to
- 00:24:45
to go do uh feature films but I really look back on that like now you're a kid out of college yeah and you get hired to work on Star Trek right so when they bring when your kid out of college what what what kind of things do they have you start on so you're I'm out of college I come in I'm the PA right so I'm the production assistant I'm running around I'm um I'm making uh blueprint copies and running them down to uh to set you know I'm I'm um doing errands and things for the art director I'm making sure everyone H they all have the supplies they need and on the side I'm um I'm you know doing drawing and and uh and the illustrator at the time is mentoring me Ricardo dogado was the
- 00:25:34
illustrator season one and um and so I'm it was sort of like a a rush education that first year of like props and stuff yeah so I did uh the Runabout with um with Rick sternbach and uh and you know and did some set pieces and and at the end of the season I had kind of sh known the production designer Herman Zimmerman that um that you know I was really wanted to uh to take on the challenge and he made me Illustrated for season two and that was my official start nice yeah and at some point they asked you to do what has to be the most important ship in Deep Space 9 easily the while let you said i' the you may be referring
- 00:26:23
to the defiant the defiant he ra the defiant yeah so I have I have a little disclosure full disclosure I have a small defiant that sits on a base that's signed by Jim Martin it's the only piece of sign merchandise I have I don't even have anything signed by Chris by by Chris Roberts it's the only signed merise I have so well it's my honor then Def and um you know what cherish that just kidding so we're going to forget so for the rest of the interview we just I just want to talk about the Define okay so no uh 60 seconds cuz we do have to move on this is a star s interview we'll get to the start seon tell me about the Define for 60 seconds um it popped up in season 3 okay they they needed something um kind of uh more aggressive and more challenging than a
- 00:27:10
Runabout and so they were going to introduce a new small light fighting Starship and um and we did some designs and um we were going to go into our meeting and um my boss Herman he he liked a design that I had done for another show which was um which was still floating around my desk and it was uh kind of defiant esque it was similar in shape with the with the you know built-in side the cells and um he said let's show that too and um that was the like genesis of where that design path was going to go yeah yeah the the the defiant was the first ship in Star Trek well the first Federation ship that
- 00:27:57
showed that cells didn't have to be out no way from the body they could be connected well I mean it makes sense every other race has can go to warp they don't have cells so like it's the Federation finally caught up to everybody else they don't have to keep sticking the Nel's way out it's like that so it was it was very cool it was very different but still distinctly Federation and Star Trek and I I I Adore it okay Tony mininger did did the uh the model for it so he had a lot of uh great input on that as well can you hook me up with Tony let's find out where he is and and get him in here so you you leave you leave Star Trek uh and I don't know how a person does that but we won't go near I don't want to know cuz I beyond me but okay all right so You' decided to leave Star Trek right you
- 00:28:44
want you want to spread your wings you want you want it you need some new challenges kind of thing you've conquered Star Trek you made the Define what else is there to do conquered whatever uh where do you go from Star Trek I I was on the Sony lot working on on the Phantom right the Billy Zayn uh um superhero movie and they were um they were starting to crew up for Starship Troopers and uh and you know we at Sony the art departments were kind of in one building so I went over and introduced myself to the production designer Alan Cameron and showed him my work and um and again they they brought me on I was a young eager hardworking kid and um and you know they slotted me in as one of the illustrators with John Bell and um
- 00:29:33
and Jim Lima and um and I came on and uh and then I got to do all the ship stuff which yeah was that was a great show to work on too the ship so much fun the ships and star Troopers the uh uh wow the name's the name's blank Roger young the Roger young je the the Roger young is is amazing and it's it's I I I think you see its influence inuence in in Sci-Fi movies for the last you know 20 has it been 20 it's been almost I just realized it's been about 20 years it's kind of of a time you know that's like like sci-fi design of the 90s you know and but you know Paul verhoven said um he wanted it to feel like a World War II battleship you know and uh yeah I heard that and I'm like I got that no worries we don't
- 00:30:20
have any World War II influences here Star Citizen yeah none at none at all no World War II here at all uh you also I I also have to mention uh you designed the uh Death from Above tattoo ttoo I did that Ben Lesnik has on his own body well well superimpose a picture here of Ben lizy he's got that tattoo on his arm and he got that before you know Star Citizen before he he knew and I I remember you were you were here in the the old office last year uh working on we doing the hall series is that what we were doing we were working out the hull yeah and it's the first time I've met you and I'm talking to you about structure Troopers and you mentioned did the tattoo and I'm like my gosh I went and grabbed that he brought over and he he just happens to have a tattoo that you designed on his thing and you were able to give him the uh he was very very pleased that you
- 00:31:07
were able to send him the alternate design oh right right of that yeah I pitched them too and they they went for the skull one yeah and you can tell that it's all handlettered because there was no font at the time you know you couldn't go Google a font and and say like hey what would look good you it it was all hand lettered and if you look it's crooked like the death the th are kind of funky and that's how you know that uh that's how what I look for to go oh yeah that's the one I did and he's got a crooked on his tattoo hopefully if we had the picture you saw there it's the charm of the time right we were doing markers and uh colored markers and uh and you know ink on uh Bond paper that's how everything was designed yeah all right so so from Starship Troopers you know we're only in 97 uh we've got a long way to get before
- 00:31:56
we get to Star say so we we'll Speed Ahead here uh in the intermed in the intervening years from 9 97 to 2012 what what were you doing top level step what what are some of some of the things that people could may have seen that they go oh yeah that was Jim Martin's influence oh okay um so I went to uh did some animation for a Time 97 to 2000 um uh atlantus Lost Empire Leo and Stitch kind of the other side of work which is um you know a little bit you know not not the heavy sci-fi more of the fun and um and then Hollywood went into superhero mode and I was on Spider-Man and uh the Sam Ry version to I did worked on The Matrix uh sequels Owen Patterson was a
- 00:32:46
production designer and um and yeah it it did its own thing and it had its own look and and um a lot of things Trends came from that absolutely series of movies absolutely like it was the coolest of the cool for that time yeah so that's the Matrix we're that's only 2003 so let's get one more highlight before we get to start citizen here what one one more uh Watershed thing that you're really proud of between 2003 and and star citiz Alien Resurrection Alien Resurrection sure so we we we we go back and down a little bit Alien Resurrection uh some great ship design what ship did you do for Resurrection I worked on the Betty nice yeah and a lot of concept stuff for the for the big ship um and a lot of set Interiors yeah I'm I'm a big fan of the used future I'm much
- 00:33:33
more a Blade Runner guy than a Minority Report kind of guy so so ships like the Betty so it's one of the reasons my favorite manufacturer here for star system is Drake okay so which is another reason I like Drake so that that's a good that's a good segue Jared good segue to actually talking about Star Citizen in this Star Citizen interview so we've skipping ahead uh tell us about how you hooked up with Chris how'd you get involved with Star Citizen you know hi I'm Sandy Gardner coming to you from the YouTube space in Los Angeles California and right now 24 teams begin
- 00:34:23
a journey to become part of video gaming history by designing the next great Starship welcome everyone uh my name is Adam Weezer and I will be your host this week for another installment of L makers Guide to the Galaxy uh for those unfamiliar this is a show where a member of the L team sits down and walks through you through a specific star system tells you a bit of the history
- 00:35:12
some of the stories that have occurred there some of the science and other little tidbits about it uh so you can kind of get educated on the the entire galaxy that you'll be exploring in the puu uh and enjoying in Squadron 42 so um this week we're going to go to um extremely important uh system for many reasons uh a lot of them being historical and some just on its uh its mere placement um it is one of only two systems that is directly connected to the sa system so um as we look here on the map where we're starting we're on uh we're on Earth and it's one of the systems we can just even uh pitch up here a little bit and there you see uh the jump Point that'll lead us to it so today we are going to go and visit the Daven system all right so we're going to back out
- 00:36:00
here and as you can see um besides kroa Daven is one of only two systems that is directly connected to Saul uh because of this the Daven system is notoriously uh has notoriously difficult uh um custom standards just because not only is it one of the gateways to uh Humanity's home World it also lays on a very important strategic trade route that connects soul and Tera um so soul and Tera I believe is like a like a five a five jump Journey uh which has to go through uh which goes through the Dave imune system as kind of one of the quickest ways to get there so let's uh zoom on in and take a bit of a closer look of this system it's a um four
- 00:36:49
Planet system uh with a k type uh main sequence star at the center now a k type main sequence stars are kind of like a yellowish orangish in uh in color uh and they normally have a an average surface temperature around 5,316 de Kelvin uh just for a point of reference uh the Sun at the heart of our system sits at 5,778 degre Kelvin on average so it's just a little bit cooler than what you would see uh in the S system now uh Daven was first discovered in 2430 by when doopsy who very smartly named the system after his father-in-law um it's a as you said it's got a it's got a four Planet system and
- 00:37:38
I think the best way to actually uh break it down and and kind of like explore it is to actually work it backwards so uh we are going to start out here at uh the Daven 4 uh let's Zoom right on in and Daven 4 is an ice giant that is renowned for having a very picturesque and beautiful atmosphere yet the the most interesting thing about Daven 4 is actually what is an orbit around it and that is the Banu friendship Museum now um this is important and even though the museum is is hardly ever visited and is seem to parentally be on the chopping block when it comes to Government funding it's still there and it's uh still a very important part of UE history because it was in the outer reaches of the davan system that Humanity made contact with
- 00:38:28
the the first aliens in uh in their history uh it was out here in 2438 that Vernon tar a an explorer was searching the outer reaches for potential jump points uh while doing this he spotted a a strange ship kind of following him and just out of instinct figuring that this was somebody trying to jump one of his potential claims he shot at that chip uh luckily for all parties involved he missed and the the pilot of that ship was a Banu who Humanity would come to know and love and called Jerry uh who was piling piloting a Banu merchantman uh needless to say uh Jerry was just as surprised as Wendell was that there was a new race out there and uh it turned into a a meeting even though it started with a shots fired
- 00:39:18
across the bow um after um the authorities were contacted the UN sent out uh a general Neil sovich to come and deal directly with Jerry and then the uh Banu delegation that was dispatched to the system shortly thereafter uh once humanity and the Banu were able to figure out how to communicate together um it didn't take long I think I think it was maybe a month or two before the first uh Interstellar peace and trade Accord was signed between humanity and the Banu um when this happened this generated a lot of Buzz within the UN at the time not only because there was obviously our first alien friends in the world um but also there was a lot of potential for trade the Banu um are our uh huge Traders so uh people tried uh
- 00:40:08
people and corporations flooded to the davan system in the hopes of doing deals with a whole new market um what was interesting though is that and Humanity did not discover this until years later as we we back on out is that Daven is actually nowhere near the Banu front as you can see here here's Daven which is essentially probably we would consider it a core human world but the uh the Banu world you can see I'm I'm backing out here and we're not even we're not even getting into the picture we've got genon we've got bakas here um so it's still a a good deal away from Daven space uh it turns out that Jerry the pilot of the band new merchantmen was also a fugitive from a few Banu guilds and had some people out after him he did
- 00:40:57
not want to have to deal with it was because of this that he found himself so far away from Banu space so even though a lot of people and a lot of Corporations flooded the system in the hopes of making new alien friends uh it was never quite to be because Daven actually in the grand scheme of things uh didn't turn out to be on the edge of the uh of the man world so let's go back in um and let's uh move on closer to Daven 3 now this planet is a terrestrial smog planet with a very dangerous uh atmosphere filled with acid um so it's one of those you don't want to get too close and Humanity never really considered doing much with it because the acid is supposedly so strong that it can melt ship hols so while you may want to avoid it um there are often reports
- 00:41:47
that crime syndicates in the Davian system use this planet to let's say dispose of objects ships people that maybe they don't want to be found so if you do pass the system be careful not only for its uh uh acidic atmosphere but also for uh the type of people that do spend a lot of time around it now moving on to Daven 2 this is really the the heart and the soul of the Davian system uh it's named cestus and uh the main city that uh you'll be able to to visit there is called Jetta now uh cestus is uh was recognized in the early uh 25th Century um and has been an important part of the the empire ever since then um as I mentioned previously when the
- 00:42:37
Banu were first discovered lots of Corporations flooded to the system in hopes that uh um this would be a great place to to spend time and to meet uh the new alien race uh one of those companies which you are all probably very uh familiar with is Aegis Dynamics the the ship company now AIS was originally a merger between two companies which is AIS macro Computing which was Earth an earth-based company and Dynamics a Productions which was actually based out here in Daven and when they when they merged they uh they came together and they put their um their Center of her operation right here to be able to access the wider world so when you visit Jetta you'll be able to go to the Aegis showroom and see she the S floors and see a variety of their ships now uh ages famously be were were
- 00:43:26
the favorite ships of Ivar Messer the uh the despot that ruled the uh the uee for uh or the whose family ruled the UE for for centuries um and because of this they were they were popular uh with the military for a handful of centuries but once the messers were deposed they quickly fell out of public favor and were almost seen as a symbol of that era um in the subsequent decades and centuries after the messers uh went went aside a lot of these uh military ships that Aegis had built uh trickled down to the second hat market and became extremely popular in certain civilian circles um because of this popularity and because of the ship's performance and the stuff that they could do AIS has recently uh experienced a an uptick and kind of a Resurgence in popularity now
- 00:44:15
that they've put enough distance between themsel and the The Messer era um so yeah going back to the uh early 26 century when this uh planet became uh first recognized and when we say recognized in lore that means that uh the planet gets an official name and it also gets a voting rights in the Senate um in the government Senate and it didn't take long for a calus's political U might to kind of come to Bear uh in 2525 um their Senator Nomi Ral stepped onto the floor and presented something that would become known as the common laws now at the time the up PE was struggling with how to govern an ever expanding Empire um where there was a diversity of opinions and government
- 00:45:04
Styles and and lots of different factors what uh the common laws proposed was a baseline of rights that any planet that wanted to join the The Wider government and become a voting member of the of uh of the Senate would need to follow to basically achieve those uh uh you know achieve that status uh after a year of very vigorous debate uh the common laws were passed uh this allowed um those planets and systems and local governments to basically govern themselves in whatever way they saw fit or was best suited for their Planet as long as they adhered to these common standards uh the common laws are a very import important piece of legislation and are considered one of the cornerstones of the government to this day a few years after that happened um
- 00:45:55
another uh incident occurred on Jetta uh in the city of Jetta that would be politically important also after unifying um under the common laws the upe decided it was time to unify the currency too and thus the ueec was created now not everyone was extremely happy with the fact that uh there was going to be one unified Curren currency and some even predict predicted that there it could lead to economic collapse um the most vocal opposition actually occurred in writing that on Jett uh during 2529 uh now this became known as The Siege of Jetta lasted two weeks and actually required the upe to deploy the military into the system to actually stop the riots um hundreds were injured
- 00:46:45
even two police were killed and uh the upe military got a lot of flack for it taking so long now one of the interesting reasons why the riots were able to last so long is that the Jetta unlike me andlike many other places on the planet of cestus are actually covered by biodomes now these biodomes are have become the iconic symbol what you'll see when you fly down over the city or when you look up into the sky when you're visiting Jetta and these biodomes are essential because when the UN um basically got bids to have companies terraform this planet this being the only habitable planet in the davan system they awarded the bid to uh Geo uh babco Geo Builders who were a uh a kind of
- 00:47:35
young terraform company that won it won the bid not because of their Sterling reputation but just because they brought in the lowest bid now at the time that Geo babill uh Geo Builders um built the uh uh terraform the planet uh not everything went quite right and it resulted in a very thin atmosphere it's still breathable to humans but it's let's say more equivalent to trying to live on the top of the Himalayas or the Andes or the Alps it's uh it's something you could deal with but is not ideal so giant biodomes were built over many areas of the planet as a way to be able to more easily pump oxygen into the uh into the areas that Humanity was taking over again uh this happened uh right on
- 00:48:24
the heels of uh people trying to come into the Sy system and check out the Bandu and all that stuff so the idea of having to spend money to rform the planet just doesn't make sense and the biodomes was the solution now how this factors in to the siege of Jetta is that part of the reason why these riots lasted so long is that protesters had taken control over a series of the air purification units in the city of Jetta and the up military was concerned that these units could be turned off um and possibly not give help pump enough oxygen into the area or even worse that uh other chemicals or things could be pumped into the system through these units uh so that was their justification for why the siege of Jett lasted for uh for for two whole weeks moving on to
- 00:49:14
2545 another extremely important historical event occurred here on Jetta and involved the biodomes at uh at noon on December uh 15th of 2 uh 254 4 a series of strategically placed U bombs exploded and actually crumbled the biodomes of Jett down onto the population below killing hundreds this was a travesty and it was shocking to the entire Empire uh it was also the first of six uh bombing campaigns bombing attacks that terrorized the upe over the course of the next few months um even though nothing was uh proven at the time there were strong implications based on the materials Ed in the bomb that Shion terrorists uh were the ones
- 00:50:03
responsible for it uh which fed into the burgeoning cold war between humanity and the Shion uh at the time the high general of uh of the upe government was one Ivar Messer and he proposed something called the prime citizen now what this was it was a referendum that citizens voted on and eventually would pass which would consolidate power of the government under one position a prime citizen also to become known as imperor uh prior to that the upe was governed by a triumphant which included the high general which at the time was Ivar Messer a high secretary and a high Advocate um Messer argued that the Triumph triumphant was as a a political system a political way of governance was
- 00:50:52
weak it was ineffectual it um it was slow to respond to emergencies All Points which seem to be emphasized by the Up's inability to track down who was uh um causing these terrorist bombings all around the Empire of course after the uh Prime citizen initiative passed uh Ivar Messer did Ascend to the role of imperor and his family would then go on to uh uh tyrannical rule over the over the the coming centuries um it was wasn't until 2806 that uh the uh a Truth and Reconciliation committee was finally put together to come to terms with the atrocities that happened during The Messer era uh this was after the The Messer family had been officially
- 00:51:41
deposed and uh one of the people who spent time digging through the archives of all the information that was released in the truth and uh reconciliation committee was uh a researcher uh and a um uh uh a scholar red-based scholar by the name of Sydney kmar who was always obsessed with the the bombing campaigns that had basically led to the prime citizen uh plan being adopted now as she started to dig through details she uncovered some new information which had never been seen before which she published in a book called the path to Prime citizen uh path to the prime citizen which became a bestseller and basically implicated Ivar Messer as the orchestrator of these terrorist bombing campaigns now Sydney karmac was able to pull this
- 00:52:30
thread to through based on evidence she found coming back here to Jett so in the days prior to the bio the explosion that collap the biodomes a man by the name of cish ishaka was arrested in a slam sting in Jetta uh later that night he was very quickly and very quietly released from jail with uh without much reason except for uh one name which could be tied back to in Adam core now Sydney karmac as a researcher recognized these names because Cyrus ishaka and Adam core were both um were both soldiers that fought alongside Ivar Messer during the bad Battle of Idris for uh Adam core was an infiltration expert and Cyrus ishaka was a demolition expert uh she was able to
- 00:53:21
follow the connection through even more thoroughly by noting that Cyrus ishaka could be tracked to five out of the six planets in the days prior to the terrorist uh attacks that occurred there um Cyrus shaka's fate actually is is a pretty sad one he was discovered shot dead in a New York City alley uh days after the final bombing did occur um reports of this uh of the autopsy around his death were sealed it was it was wiped under the rug as a slam deal gone wrong but the Truth and Reconciliation um Council basically released released this uh uh this detail too and it was found that Cyrus ishaka actually had Trace Amounts of Shian explosive under his F fingernails in the autopsy uh Adam core the other member um was a complete
- 00:54:11
ghost during this time um during the terrorist campaigns um but he did very fortuitously um suddenly Surface after Ivar Messer became elected Prime citizen uh because Ivar Messer then appointed Adam core a prominent role in the uh UE military now again um while none of this can be definitively proven it is considered by many and is almost Pro you know public uh belief at this point that Ivar Messer did orchestrate these bombing campaigns to ascend to the prime citizen now another fun little thing about uh the the planet of cesis here um besides agis Dynamics uh having its uh Main Headquarters here uh it can also uh be considered the birthplace in a
- 00:54:59
strange way to uh apocalypse arms the ship's weapon manufacturing company uh that you should uh be uh familiar with already um and can can fire their guns and Arena commander in some of the games right now uh so in 2792 um Dotan Cabello who was a a construction magnet and a collector of uh uh antique military replicas bought this strange crate at a a uh an auction at a davan warehouse uh when he got home he opened the crate and inside he found two prototypes of weapons that he had never seen before now Cabello just became obsessed with figuring out the history of these weapons and spent the next few years of his life Consulting experts and trying to track down exactly
- 00:55:47
where they came from so it uh turns out that uh these weapons were built by a former AIS uh engineer by the name of Juliet mpin uh she was put in contact with Linton Messer the 11th who was the last Messer to rule the UE now Messer Linton Messer understood at that time that the walls were closing in on their dictatorship and he was growing concerned that uh there might be a rebellion against him as his way to kind of Ure against that he decided he needed a new uh line of extremely powerful ship weapons built to defend himself in case of this occurrence uh through some back chanels uh engineer Juliet Malin was put in contact with him and went off to
- 00:56:37
design these weapons now she understood that Working With The Messer government in such a politically sensitive time could be problematic and because of that she snuck away and did her work in secret using a variety of shell companies to hide what she was doing when she finished her prototype she put them in this case and sent them off to Messer and while they were in transit the massacre of Garen occurred which was the basically the Tipping Point which um basically deposed uh Linton Messer um and the entire Messer family from control of the UE that crate with those two prototypes was then stuck in this Daven warehouse and sat there for decades until Dalton Cabello finally picked it up and bought it now Cabello was able to track Malin who who um after
- 00:57:27
the fall of the messers uh fled uh to the coral system where she worked there and uh still had relatives and was able even to even track down some of her old notes and uh diagrams and plans for these weapons he ense use those to basically start apocalypse arms and sell these weapons to the public um even bragging that these were uh weapons intended for the messers but uh that the messers never got to use to him this is a success story The messers created these extremely powerful um weapons but we're never able to use them but now you can so that's how he's kind of uh spun his sales pitch on the history behind uh Behind these weapons um finally just one other personal note I want to add here I
- 00:58:13
know I've been talking about cestus a lot but uh cestus here is and Jetta in particular is the home to Elroy Cass now any of you who read the Lord know that Elroy Cass is a frequent a guest in the Starwatch uh post which tracks the the star and celebrity culture of uh 2946 UE and Elroy Cass let's say is the misfit extraordinaire of uh of the era so far I like to personally think of him as the Keith Richards of uh of our universe the the one who can out party and Outlast and somehow outlive everyone despite doing some of the the most uh uh hardcore things out there so uh just wanted to tip my cap very very slightly to Jetta being the home of Elroy Cass
- 00:59:03
the infamous Daven deviant uh and one more planet here in the system for you to check out this is Daven 1 which is a rocky terrestrial world has no minerals on it it has no core it's uh probably best compared to our moon um but yeah just another Little Rock uh circling close here to davan's K type star so um that concludes uh this week's episode of lur makers guide of the Galaxy I'm Adam Weezer this has been the davan system and uh I'll see you around the verse hey there Tyler Witkin Community manager in the Austin Texas Studio here to bring you this week's MVPs unlike
