[Music] hey everyone and welcome to citizens of the stars our chance at highlighting some of the amazing content created by you the star citizen backers with that let's jump right in to citizen spotlight and meet one of the more prominent cosplayers of the community destro how are you doing no I'm doing fine how are you dilated now many people saw that you made something awesome at Gamescom tell us a little bit about what you made actually what I made and what you saw do the games come event and it was my big band is 2.0 because one year ago maybe some avoid of you people you can remember that I was doing the Big Bang soup 1.0 but this year was 2.0 it was a
- 00:01:06
little bit improved version of it because basically it was a big carton both supported with PVC tubes and the whole thing was modeled on the original in-game Big Ben is how long did it take you to make the Big Ben's machine oh and total I think it was four days neural before the games come event and as Susan as soon as I came back from job I immediately went to work on cosplay and I spent all my spare time preparing it until the late night I think all the time to the pile I think it can set it was about 20 hours of work on it last year we saw the first iteration of the big Benny soon and this year we saw an improvement can you give us a hint at what's coming up next year at first I had two such plans to do the Big Ben it's a 3.0 because there are certainly a
- 00:01:56
lot of things that can be improved such as interactive features or better lightning in the front but maybe I gonna try something new in the next year we'll see who knows maybe Numa naked male sheep cosplay the possibilities are endless daster Oh super excited to see what's coming up next and thank you so much for taking the time to join us today that's all the time we have let's see what's going on this week and star citizen hey everybody welcome to another edition
- 00:02:45
of quantum questions where we take a CID developer put them on the hot seat and make them answer as many questions as they can under two minutes joining us on the hot seat today is character artist out of cloud Imperium games Los Angeles mr. Shane Kessler Shane how you doing man I'm doing great how are you I'm doing well thank you for asking nobody ever asks how's disco hey disco how you doing I'm doing well you know thank you for asking all right rain hey how you think gonna do man I think I'm gonna pass with flying colors 77 percent is passing let's go ahead and put two minutes on the clock that's if I can get through this without forgetting what my words are and begin what is your name and what do you do my name is Shane Hessler I'm a characteris here at CI GLA what armors or outfits have you worked on I've
- 00:03:33
worked on all three of the slaver variants including the light medium and heavy as well as the RSI explorer suit and the legacy media marine which we recently debuted mm-hmm how many polygons are in a typical armor set on an average typical armor set could range anywhere between 50 and 60,000 polygons we try to model the interior and exterior of the armor sets so players can't see through the armors and they appear to be whole pieces okay what program is used to capture the characters high poly render for the high poly renders we use a program called key shot which is a GPU based renderer that allows us to render and visualize our
- 00:04:22
high poly characters in real time as we throw temporary materials and lighting on them okay how many steps are there in a character art process for our character our pipeline we run through four steps including our high poly which is where we're sculpting and concept hang out our characters then we optimize those high Poly's with a low poly stage for the game and then we throw textures on there that allow us to drive the materials which we finish at as our last step adjusting materials happens modularity fit into the character pipeline so with modularity we build our characters to be as customizable as possible so anything that's modular has
- 00:05:10
to be able to fit with any other item in the character so whether it be a helmet armor piece legs or arms all these modular pieces have to be able to fit together okay and what skill sets are helpful in the 3d character art field as a 3d characters it's very important to have a very strong background in traditional art so knowing your form Anatomy and design helps drive whatever we may do in the 3d world of art alright that's it you got them all good job and so Shane Hessler goes on the board with a total of seven questions answered correctly he'll go on and compete against other CID developers for the quantum questions championship it's not quite enough to beat Mike Jones but you
