everybody welcome to another edition of calling all devs our weekly Q&A series where I take questions live from you the star citizen backer and post them directly to our star system developers usually over Skype starting us off this week we are going to Manchester United Kingdom and our very own Steve to Muirfield systems designer now for star citizen and it's Gordon for to Steve hey doing man I'm good man oh you did doing well look I'm learning everybody's title they're all system designers now you know you could have just given it to me so Jarrod you got your title right the first time they were mine all right nope I will forever be in this tournament Steve I got a question for you it's from the backers it's about life support it says how does life support work on our ships is it a
- 00:01:00
component that we can swap or shoot out like the power plant or cooler also do we need to carry oxygen tanks and stuff like that to keep it running okay so with the life support the way that we basically envisage them is being a component on the ship just like every other component so it will be in a fixed location on the ship itself but rather than being something that you replace if it gets damaged is something that you're actually going to repair so essentially it works kind of similar to every other component we have rather than taking it out you'll be able to integrate will be directly to do the repair repairs on it instead the reason for this is that we basically just don't really think that you need to have 20 different variants of life support machine they're all essentially going to look fairly bland at the end of the day and in terms of the way that we power this thing is
- 00:01:49
you're not going to need to carry anything like an oxygen tank is actually powered by fuel to keep it running so if it does get damaged or if you you know basically unable to use it and it goes offline then the way to get around that is basically to put on a spacesuit so you can still breathe well cool that's a I think that's everything that's it's yeah I don't have anything to add to that so yeah exactly to the point that yeah it's a it's a fairly straightforward form that we're looking to go for we don't want to have anything to complex it's just it works or it doesn't yeah no I get that a lot you know we we are we have no shortage of complexity in star system we can afford we can afford to make one system just a little hit it with a wrench make it go that's right all right Steve I'll let you get back to work thank you so much man thanks man take all right thank you so much Steven - were filled
- 00:02:37
now we are moving back to home base in our very own cloud imperium games Los Angeles and Senor character not seen your character just character art director I mean yes yes senior there's nobody above them but it's not actually Josh how you doing man doing very good man how you doing ah the ception of titles man I got a question for you character is such an important part of our first-person universe last week we had todd papy on the show and he talked about the potential return of player nametags over our heads they're definitely coming back for our marine we're still evaluating whether they're gonna be back in the PU or not we have a technical challenge once we saw that then we can decide how when if we're gonna implement it this question is a follow-up if you does if we decide to continue without the player name tags is the plan for player recognition a more diegetic approach such as making player
- 00:03:25
close and look sufficiently distinct and and unique to allow us to recognize people at a distance and perhaps even require introductions to know each other's names okay I I think it kind of is a little bit of a complex question but I would answer it like this so every location that you're gonna go to is gonna have a theme right every planet is gonna have its own look it's gonna have its own style the plan has has been - and is is to make players and NPC or AI close the same creating two sets of assets is really difficult creating things you know and that are it you know you want to blend in with that location so create doesn't necessarily make sense for that so if you wanted to dress like a local you can right that's absolutely totally possible if you want to dress
- 00:04:13
like somebody from a different system a different planet that's also totally fine right and and I take it I take it you say that these planets like a left or whatever I'll have their own style but of course these planets will also have PC travelers from other from other places so so even if you do have a very unique look like I think I'm something of Star Wars where you know Han and and Lando wear the wear the same outfit in an entire movie that takes place over several days like when you change your clothes you know you can have your unique costume but even if you're still looking to plenty with npz there's still got to be some amount of them that are traveling from other locations right yeah there's gonna be travelers from other places so you know there'll be a percentage you know some places are gonna be really hard themed so almost the only reason you would be at a location maybe is for a specific thing or it's a company or whatever and maybe
- 00:05:01
hyper like night high 90s percentage is gonna be that other places like like arccorp which is one that we showed in citizencon last year is it's a melting pot city so most of the people they're going to be coming from different locations so you will see people from Hurston you will see people from Levski you'll see people from all different locations and it might have its own central sort of costumes as well but it's gonna be a melting pot in that in word it is built a lots of different things that's super cool I am I am known for being a big cheerleader of the biggest game a Barbie dress-up that's ever been created I'm so looking forward to being the clothes horse in the universe all right I will let you go man thank you so much take your time thanks mate see you later man right all right thank you so much
- 00:05:49
and now moving on to [Music] going back to cloud Imperium games Los Angeles in our own lead systems designer Kirk Tomei who was gonna answer a question about the a freelancer and it's possible well we'll get to that in a second Kirk how you doing man very good episode aired I'm doing well thank you so much and now you're becoming a
- 00:06:37
calling all devs all-star I got a question for you it's interesting it's a little Nisha most of our questions are kind of broader themed anything this this is a question that drills right down to a specific feature and it's it got a fair amount of votes so it says currently when you enter the freelancer using the side door the the airlock vents the entire ship as it is too small for the person to fit inside it are we expecting a freelancer rework that will fix this issue and it is that rework planned or what else can we expect yes so we will need to eventually adjust all ships that have this issue and I don't believe that entire rework is required really to specifically just the area that
- 00:07:26
encompasses there and look it's also been its better mechanism so that we don't have to re art the entire ship but just make it so that there is a way to not vent the entire contents of the internal atmosphere into space and so if I don't know exactly where it's on schedule but it is something that when you get a dress that will put on the sketch on the backlog and we'll fix that up there's something else that we'll need to address that will be on the ship features team is that will need to make an item that we have a concept of but have been implementing it which is our life support system so once we hope the life sports are we create this life support system that's able to we apply
- 00:08:16
atmosphere into a space such as the interiors spaceships that are connected but we our own system so a root system is connected to the doors so that's why currently when you open a door all ya mister events out of space that's great but we have no way to refresh your eyes the ships so once you open a door especially one like they say the Reliant with which is basically nothing but a giant door once you open it up for cargo that means that the ship Nolan has atmosphere so we will make this item that will get connected just like any other internal ship item and all have properties in it you know things like how fast can it - we pressurize the ship and provide take environment for you to walk around with
- 00:09:03
it get home that put that inside ships and then connect up to the room system and so you know into the same exact thing to do for power and correctly all the pipes so that you will have a way in which once you do open a ship its face that you're known you're hosed and then you could you could you could put it back to state where it should be with oxygen awesome of course that was a that was far more than I asked you for it's always a very appreciative Kirky for those of you wondering when the freelancer variants are scheduled to be completed keep an eye on the RSI roadmap that's available in Roberts space industries com that's where you'll find all that stuff so all right Kirk thanks so much I'll let you get back to work fight all right thank you so much and finally lastly not leastly stephen Hosmer here in our Los
- 00:09:53
Angeles studio is gonna ask her a question about the Phoenix well he's gonna do his best to answer a question let's see if he's got an answer for the questions Stephen how you doing man I'm good how are you I'm doing well thank you for joining us on another calling I'll dance now we got a question about the constellation Phoenix here now everybody knows that Phoenix is currently in active development they've seen it on ship shaped and whatnot and we'll have a segment a more in-depth segment on the Phoenix in the coming weeks or months so stay tuned for that everybody but for right now this person wants to know for the current work of the work on the constellation Phoenix does it still have some of its advantages over other constellation models such as does it still have the improved armor does it still have the that still have the higher quality powerplant and does it still have what
- 00:10:42
we call to the time was a points to bench turret and which we now know thanks to the shipping our articles is just an unmanned turret same thing is the differences to change in terminology so go what do you got okay so the armor right now is actually being reworked into item 2.0 system so I don't have an answer for that currently but when that implement gets implemented we will because there's something behind you dancing yeah it's Christopher Christopher stop dancing I can't focus Christopher Christopher I'm doing a thing we're recording this in your dancing we're recording you making of wet it's alright
- 00:11:32
so you were saying armor 2.0 armor I don't our armor item 2.0 is currently in the works and it will be I completely lost my train of thought armor 2.0 is in the works and it will need to be completed before we know precisely how it will affect the Phoenix okay but the Phoenix should have our intention is that it should have some improved armor we just can't tell you out by how much until the armor the full armor 2.0 system is done yeah so armor is currently in the works being converted to item 2.0 and the system isn't completely fleshed out as or at least I don't have the information i I just I just completely lost it that's right I think I think we covered the
- 00:12:20
armor step that's it's a big TBD but our intention is still that it should have some more talk to us about the powerplant are we gonna edit all of that out no we're gonna leave it all in oh wow okay this is the behind the scenes show that calling oil devs is the most behind the scenes show of all are buying these new show people are gonna see what our actual conversations are like okay so so let's talk about the power plant Steve the power plant breath currently when we okay so when we spect out the phoenix originally had like a size seven power plant and the other ones had a size six power plant that that size doesn't exist anymore currently the andromeda has two sides two power plants which are civilian power plants that believe and the Phoenix isn't going to get a size upgrade but it's going to get a grade upgrade and it's going to be
- 00:13:10
changed to a competition what's the last competition class power plants okay so so it'll go so instead of to civilian a grade C power plants like there's anything dromeda it's going to have one or two a competition grade - yeah - competition grade and you said better so B yeah I believe so P yeah alright and finally what about that a formerly known as point defense turrets now known just as unmanned turrets so the point defense turrets are not currently we don't currently have the tech for that so when the Phoenix goes out on three point three we won't have those as a part of it but when the tech gets implemented in the future we will be adding them when
- 00:13:59
that is implemented wasn't that sounded redundant no III got what's in it man okay how you doing Steve I'm doing okay okay deep breath a little bit busy we're just so so much this morning yes yes I know wearing that we're in that final stretch to push three two at the door so I understand you're also busy sir but thank you so much for taking a little bit of time out of your data to do this for me it's cool and and and you know you know you did you did great dude you always i do great that sound I didn't I don't know what I'm talking about I'm just a fraud alright I'll let you get back to work Monday okay later bye well that about wraps up this week's show especially thanks to C but uber field and and and Josh Sherman and and and Kirk Tomei and finally a Stephen
- 00:14:48
Hosmer for taking the time to appear on the on the show this week you know that is always the hardest point of any show is me trying to remember five names and get through them in succession remember you can submit your questions for consideration each and every week up on spectrum and don't forget to vote that's the two-prong plan you submit your questions you vote on your questions there's a brand new thread up there for June right now so this is your chance you submit questions you're always down at the bottom that's why we make a new thread every single month so brand new thread it's your best chance yet to get your questions seen and voted on by your fellow citizens so for calling all Depp's I'm content manager for global video production Jared Huckaby we'll see you next week everybody thanks for watching for the latest and
