[Music] hello everyone welcome to another episode of temp for the chairman for those of you who haven't seen this before this is where I answer 10 questions that have been put forward by the subscribers The subscribers are a subset of our community that come contribute money every month to enable us to do all our enhanced Community content so we thank you very much for that because it really allows us to do a higher degree of uh content and pays for a lot of sort of the community staff and the videographers and editors to allow us to put you know all the video shows out we do every week and also do the extra amount of sort of updates on our website and we have also uh four subscribers as part of the perk of

  2. 00:00:55

subscribing there's a jump Point magazine which is usually somewhere between 40 and 70 pages of behind the- scenes material how we've built a design ships or how we're designing a game system or law for the world or details about a system and also some fictional stories that we publish and it's really a pretty cool read and it has sort of uh I guess information a little sooner than we sort of release the general U overall community so it's kind of a bit of a perk for being a subscriber and then there's also sort of flare that we add to the hanger in some other areas in terms of uh well well you know thank you for for you know putting being a subscriber and helping us do all this extra stuff so because of that I also try to answer 10 questions put forward by the subscribers uh as the best of my ability um that hopefully gives you a

  3. 00:01:42

little insight into where we're heading or kind of some of the ideas we have or aners some of the questions you guys would really like answered so the first one uh comes from furry quandre who asks it's been stated that Squadron 42 is set a few years before the Pu so will Squadron 42 be set at the current game year at its time of release I.E 2946 and the Pu ahead of the current year or Squadron 42 in the past and the Pu in the current year will episode two also be set before the Pu I would think that in general we would Set uh the Squadron 42 episode 1 2 and three would all be set before we start um you know the Pu timeline I guess the way to think of it so you know like right now we do this analogist you know it used to be

  4. 00:02:31

2942 now it's 2946 um so uh we would probably be setting uh Squadron 42 in 2942 uh and uh so between there and then when the PE would start so you know with Squadron 42 2942 probably works pretty well so next question comes from zanui who asks my ship has been boarded and I cut the gravity generator assuming I still have thrusters and potential partial main engines I wait until the borders are inside the ship my crew is strapped into into the crew seats and I use a thrusters engine to generate GeForce pitch your roll forward speed hard startop rinse repeat if I am able to generate even 25 m/ second potential boarding parties will be hitting the walls at 90 kilm per hour does this game have sufficient physics to handle this kind of damage implementation and how

  5. 00:03:20

effective would M mag boots be in this scenario so that's definitely uh a pretty uh you know detailed uh question and approach so what I will say is that the longer term plan for sort of the Interior grid physics is that we will simulate a certain amount of external forces so uh if a ship gets hit uh we're planning to have a bit of that Force propagate in inside to the sort of the non sort of stra down or attached entities one of which would be players so you know that classic sort of Star Wars shot where or Star Trek really where the ship gets hit and everyone sort of staggers and braces themselves against walls uh so that's that's all stuff that um longterm we actually uh are planning on

  6. 00:04:08

doing part of kind of what we're doing with the physicalized Eva is sort of some very early stuff that will enable uh this combination of animation and sort of procedural physical reaction uh to an environment so we'll definitely do some of that and the bigger ships also in terms of they have to do a hard turn then uh what we probably do even though they have their own sort of gravity generators is maybe that the the gravity field or whatever is slightly laggy for where the ship position is so if you're turning really fast that the gravity sort of instead of being straight down sort of is there until it can sort of move back there so you would you would sort of have a little bit of this turning effect which you know you kind of see I don't the you know classic Star Wars where it's like Empire tra back take a vase of action and you the the two actually the Three Star Destroyers all do this and you see people sort of tilt on one of the the bridges and uh so

  7. 00:04:59

we we'll try to do a bit of that I don't know if we're going to do it to the point where you could generate that much uh force that would the that has been described in this question because the idea would be it would sort of be damped it wouldn't be necessarily fullon it would be a little bit of it would sort of bleed into sort of the Interior physics stuff now if you've turned all the gravity off inside the ship then yes you'll be in zero g and uh then as things move around if you're not attached to anything then you know we would have to probably we' have to see how to do that because generally you would still be kind of in the in the sort of interior grid physics so we would have to iterate through non-attached entities and and essentially keep them in their relative place when the overall ship so basically they would stay in the world frame of

  8. 00:05:47

reference while the ship itself would move around and uh we can definitely do that but that uh currently would require a little extra code so I would say longer term that potentially will happen shortterm that's not right on the immediate Horizon of implementation uh and if you had mag boots then that probably would secure you to something and then you wouldn't move around all right next question comes from heavy metal who asked a while ago before the baby puu there was talk of a pirate swarm much like fandal swarm I know in some way uh that is what we find at the comay in the Pu but is there a still a chance of getting that in Arena Commander I would love to home my skills and test weapons on ships other than vanal I'd love to see the largest ships in Solo play so pirat swarm essentially is what you got in Crusader

  9. 00:06:35

so we were sort of building we were you know at the time when it was just Arena Commander well we want to change it around and have maybe some other modes to fight other enemies but in reality the Crusader map which is the mini peu map which is really going to grow into the Stanton star system map was where we sort of decided to put these different encounters whether it's with AI or you could find other players to fight and uh so that's essentially where parrot swarm went uh so in the short term we're not really planning on doing a lot of work on Arena Commander because we really want to sort of get the base gameplay and functionality into the proper large world map the proper miniu get sort of the the various rock paper scissors aspects the various different professions uh you know the various different forces and opposition and the various mechanics that keep people sort of aligned whether you're good or bad or

  10. 00:07:23

whatever and uh so that's so for us you know Arena Commander now is a good place to sort of test some of your dog fighting skills uh and you know longer term we will add to it we will probably sort of add some more challenge modes and allow and definitely do better matchmaking and make that more of a sort of competitive practice area and of course that's we'll do the same thing with starmarine but right now we really just sort of want to get everything into the miniu because that's sort of our sort of foundation for the overall game uh and then things will trickle later on into sort of you know features for arena Commander or a star Marine which are really meant to be ultimately training modes uh for you to train in certain aspects of the game and then potentially also test your skills against other players without having the same sort of risk that you would have in the proper

  11. 00:08:11

persistent Universe because it's persistent so if you lose things or die you will lose them whereas in Arena Commander or Star Marine you own next question comes from zilch who asks how will reconnaissance work aside from ring information through chat will there be in-game methods for ships to Mark targets either physically electronically will there be any value in sending ships or players as operatives in advance of an attacking Force so absolutely yes there will be in-game methods for marking ships uh I think I talked a long time ago and mentioned it quite a few times about sort of the person of interest um and really Person of Interest point of interest um kind of gameplay where you would sort of tag a ship or tag an individual and you would say yes I'm interested in them and you could maybe say yes I'm marking this person uh for my friends to follow or you're going to say yes meet me at at

  12. 00:08:59

this location and tag this location and be it to your friend so definitely having uh someone out there sort of being sort of the eyes and relaying information to other players uh cooperatively would be a big part of gameplay and I think uh you know it it will fall very much in line of what I think makes star citiz special because I really sort of feel it's kind of cool watching you know all people you know streaming uh 2.1 2.2 and uh you know videos people have made where you really the some of the coolest stuff is people working with each other to do things you know helping each other out rescuing someone uh you know working in unison to fly a bigger ship and you know of course I mention this all the time but those are things that are very high on our list to make sure you know all the full functionality is there for it because there we're still missing a bunch on the multi crew functionality and the seats and all the rest stuff which is being

  13. 00:09:47

worked on as I speak uh but you know the Cooperative nature of the game play is really important for us and obviously you know reconnaissance and calling out targets and all that would be part of it next question comes from darinor who asked my question is about scripted non-hostile NPC Encounters in most games these animations are done with no regard to player position or actions but you said this will not be the case here can we expect NPCs to not just bump into us if we get in their way during scripted during a scripted animation will they use some other means to get around us along their path or make us get out of their way maybe based on their personality I.E try to squeeze past or ordering you to get the hell out of their way that's definitely something that is big on the list it's actually a kind of a core feature to uh Squadron 42 which will also be used in the p

  14. 00:10:34

position universe but in general what's going to happen is uh the you know encounters characters moving around you're not really it's not really going to be just some canned animation that plays what will happen is AI will have all the different fragments and pieces of various things that the characters can do and then it sort of systematically plays them based on situation uh you know where you are respect to the character you can also adjust its look procedurally or his or her look procedurally on the NPC side and uh and and you know so if you get in the way then they'll just sort of shift into Locomotion to avoid you there'll also be cooperative animations for people trying to squeeze past you so we're really going to try to bring it uh a little more lifelike I mean I think Uncharted does you know like I don't know if you looked at the videos for the

  15. 00:11:21

new Uncharted for but Uncharted does a really good job of this on sort of MPC moving around in interactions and uh you know with we're definitely aiming to be there or better next question comes from Corin avatan who asked in the recent 10 for the chairman there was mention of hacking a terminal to reduce wanted level given that in Universe there is no fast andik communication will there be instances where someone can commit a crime in one system jump three systems away and the local police will scan them but not realize they have a criminal until the next crime information update comes in Via Herald or Alliant use fan yes absolutely 100% that is the design so even though we recognize that players can talk to each other on teams speak or discard or in Channel chat and that's basically instantaneous so it would be fast and light if you're talking to your buddy in another system uh and we won't

  16. 00:12:10

be a we can't block that because you can always just run an independent program we will make sure that all the game systems themselves propagate properly in the game so in terms of your wanted status in the game or when you're transferring funds or transferring Goods they will all have to move to Via locations to different things as you would inside the sort of physical setup of our game um so yes you could commit a crime jump out of there and that may not have reached the system you've got to just yet at some point it will because the information will travel through the U you know the UE advocacy Network and you'll become wanted in that system but you may be able to you know sort of beat the the information but that's also one of the reasons why you know an info Runner has a job because on the you know less structured systems you know like so so a more regulated than police system has a lot of sort of communication

  17. 00:12:57

satellites and information uh dels uh that are you know used to basically broadcast stuff around and then uh send a little drones through jump points to the other system which then broadcast stuff around um but that's in sort of you know the structured infrastructure of the core of the uee systems the Border ones you maybe you know you won't get that or it'll only be in certain areas Apache and so things like info Runners will be sort of The Courier that you know comes and you know passes information uh so you that's also a good reason you know maybe you don't want a message to get somewhere maybe someone does so there's cool gameplay that comes from that and I think also I should mention that in uh 2.2 right now we already kind of have a little bit of this gameplay where you can sort of adjust your wanted level in Port karea and it adds a sort of goal to being at

  18. 00:13:45

Port karea and also taking down or putting up the satellites basically enables whether there's coverage in that area so whether you commit a criminal act or not if the satellite's down then you can do what you want if it's up and you shoot someone that you shouldn't shoot I you shoot a lawful person um that isn't wanted and doesn't have a you know basically a bounty on them then you become wanted too um so it's you know that's the very beginning fundamentals of kind of the mechanic that we will sort of implement in the bigger system which will have a lot more uh details and Nuance to it what we have right now in 2.2 is the first iteration which I think is cool because it provides some structure of the gameplay but obviously it's it's a crude first imp implementation so for instance we kick you when you're killed at uh level five to be your big penalty but uh from the

  19. 00:14:33

server now that is not a long-term plan at all um longterm you know what will happen is when you uh you know depending on which side of the law you fall in um when you essentially get killed say when you become an outlaw you'll probably respawn in an outlaw friendly area or planet or you know asteroid base or whatever and at a certain wanted level when you get killed it's you basically got captured and you'll go to a prison basically and then you'll have have to get out of the prison by escaping or just serving your time or bribing someone to come out of it uh so we'll make it more um immersive and organic to the world uh but short term we needed because we don't we don't have any way to pay people for money in 2.2 and we don't really have any sort of there's no persistence so we don't really have penalties so uh we sort of use the the penalty of uh you know either locking

  20. 00:15:23

you in your room for a little bit or kicking you from the server but that's very short term okay next question comes from fruit who asks will there be an achievement feature in the near future or at least in the final game if so would they award players with anything such as Weapons ingame money decals all right well so well a couple of things yes uh longterm it's definitely going to be in the game but my sort of goal for achievements isn't so much the standard like you know Xbox goals or the steam goals it's more that you get in-game momentos so you know you visit a location and you know you've got the snow globe from here you know all those kind of silly things when you fly to different cities you bring back little momentos of it and I you know that definitely would be sort of an achievement feature and you would sort of unlock or get certain items for doing things um you know we have sort of a very simple kind of thing right now

  21. 00:16:12

where you kill a level five uh sort of Outlaw in uh the you know current 2.2 build and you know you'll get the laser rifle which is sort of a shortterm kind of achievement thing that you can get of course that's going to become much more sophisticated as we go on uh but it will all be sort of based on uh things that you would get in in the world and kind of holistic to the world if that makes sense and not be some thing on a scoreboard or you know like a little trophy you get um and you that's the idea that's the idea of a fish tank and all those things you have on your hanger is sort of display your in-game achievement so to speak okay next question comes from ton who asks I really want to know if there will be a place for people in Squadron 42 and who don't want to be part of FPS but yet still want to be part of the game fortunate to tell you tell telling on

  22. 00:17:01

that um Squadron 42 is has ship combat and FPS and it's all sort of Blended so you run around on foot you run around flying ships uh you you basically I mean you fly a star pilot so primarily you are going to be flying missions but there will be cases where you land or you'll have to Eva to explore a ship or you'll get stuck on a base or an asteroid thing and you'll have to fight your way out so it's sort of a full seamless blend of running around on foot flying ships interacting with characters on on you know the ship you're based on or other locations uh so I don't think there'll be an option to uh not participate in fps but do the other things at Squad 42 it's kind of a holistic experience I think it's going to be fun it's going to be good we're not going to obviously make it where you have to be like the world's best FPS

  23. 00:17:48

player to get through um it's just going to be a fun adventure and I think the fact that you go between you basically it's all from your point of view and you can sort of do everything as you would almost in in the real world is going to make it a much more immersive experience than any of the past Wing commanders that I've done um so there you go that's my answer on that one next question comes from conflict Viper who asks you've mentioned before that the veteran Pilots may show their wear and tear with replacement limbs has there been any thought to allowing Pilots to augment their bodies with replacement limbs to allow for higher G endurance and less chance of blackout during space combat uh yes we have we have discussed that I mean we are you know longer term going to have um replacement blms and parts bio you know so you you kind of you know have a certain cyborg uh action that's going on um but uh and we have talked about the

  24. 00:18:40

potential to you know get a better git that will let you have higher G tolerances potentially uh if you had uh you know some you know augmented body parts perhaps that would help you too so long term we have discuss that and probably will be something long-term but shortterm no um but that would definitely be part of character customization in our overall long-term plan okay last question comes from porer who asks will players be able to participate in the uee or any other factions elections can a player run for office in the uee I guess that we have that because uh we're in the process uh in America anyway of uh nominating the uh you know the the various um candidates for the next presidency of the United States uh

  25. 00:19:29

and hopefully our uee elections will be uh less dramatic than the ones that are happening here in the US um but uh this is a I mean this is kind of early days for us on this and we definitely felt that um you know being a citizen would give you some rights and one of the rights would be able to uh you know Vote or have some effect on General things in the same way I guess you do in the real world which is probably not that much um so so that is a longer term goal to have some participation in that uh probably will be sort of game Mastered by us because we're planning to you know besides just having the simulation obviously of the universe we also kind of hand push it and guide it towards because you know we have a overall story and timeline that we have in our minds for um Star Citizen

  26. 00:20:19

and uh so we'll sort of create events and you know elections and all that kind of things and seismic change events in the universe that would potentially affect players in Ai and you know one of those could be election um I don't think we'll in the short term anyway have a player Run for the office uh in the united Empire of Earth but you know again longterm you never know I I'm kind of pretty big on player agency and participation I think you know I a lot of the a lot of the fun that I see happening in the you know SC Alpha 2.1 and 2.2 is players doing you know basically doing stuff and creating content for other players and we're pretty big on that that's our whole sort of mission and World Systems built up to sort of React to what players in AI are doing and that and based on that it generates other missions so it's sort of a feedback loop and um so getting players involved in other things is good

  27. 00:21:09

uh so longer term potentially I mean you know you never know I think they have a sort of a version of players uh you know involved in Eve uh in terms of running things as well uh so we'll you know that's a as I said something that we're planning long term uh but we do are going to give you sort of benefits for being a citizen do allow you to participate or get certain things that you would if you weren't a citizen and one of them potentially would be voting for you know this person or that person and then depending on which one you voted for you know as an AI character it could have an impact on how the world sort of unfolds in sty citizens so that's kind of the fun element that we're thinking that would be really you know the again players themselves doing things changing affecting the world and uh you know the game or us as game Masters reacting to

  28. 00:21:56

that and keeping it fluid and dynamic um which will be fun all right there's the 10 questions for this episode of t for the chairman this is the last one uh that I will be doing for a few weeks because uh I'm actually already in the UK now this is recorded in the past um before I left but I'm now uh in a much colder and Rainier place than Los Angeles um but I will restart it as soon as I'm back in La um back and forth with my schedule I hope the questions uh that I answered were informative uh for you guys my answers were good um and thank you to all the subscribers for backing uh well first of all allowing us to do this enhanced Community content and all the backers in general for backing the game and allowing us to make a game of the ambition and scope that we're doing

  29. 00:22:43

and you know a lot of these questions are not normally questions that most games would ever be able to say yes we'll do and one of the reasons why we say yes we're going to do it maybe not always we're doing it tomorrow but it's on the plan is because of the support that you guys have done cuz you're enabling us to build a game of a scope and scale that no one uh would normally in the right mind take on but I think it's going to be awesome when it's all said and done so anyway it's nice talking to you guys uh and I will talk to you in a few weeks time uh take care bye hey guys thanks for watching um temp for the chairman if you guys would like to uh see more episodes go here if you guys would like to subscribe to our YouTube channel and always keep up to
