Todd was just showing me an impressive minifig collection hi everybody welcome to Table Talk three point six this week's edition of star citizen live I'm your host Jared Huckaby and joining us for every Todd talk is them Todd himself mr. todd papy live game driver star citizen live game how you doing man good yourself I'm doing all right it's Friday it's eight o'clock in the morning we've got questions from the community about the upcoming alpha 3.6 before we get started because we assume always that this is somebody's first show once you take a minute to tell everybody who you are and what you do for star citizen my name is todd papy on the star citizen live game director so that means that's any of the live contents I'm responsible for basically
- 00:00:59
our quarterly patches and what goes in there and working with other game directors as well as the content teams to make sure that it's heading in the right direction under Chris's under Chris's vision and then obviously there's things since it's always a it's a it's a game being built as we go there are bugs we know that there are bugs and so it's just calling out the quality of life changes that we can go in and we could fix and and you know and kind of weighing those up against feature work versus versus quality of life for people who have watched star citizen life before you know oftentimes we'll have artists on or we'll have producers on or we'll have engineers and programmers on
- 00:01:47
most of the questions that come through are often design related yeah in its simplest form how things work it's probably the overwhelming majority of the questions that we get how things work or how things will work and that's essentially your bread and butter now of course that doesn't mean that you're involved in every single aspect down to this one Musha Chris but just because like Tony Tony will be focusing on kind of like back in services and he even has like his pillar that he's focused on I'm focused on like AI UI John's focused on vehicles Josh is focused on characters Shawn's focused on FPS combat you know so each one of us have kind of our our responsibilities and then then it's up
- 00:02:36
to us to always talk and sync as well as other directors that we have in in the company as well as leads and in developers so the subject of this week's show is alpha 3.6 which is a you know currently in with evocati testing up on the PTU the features of alpha 3.6 if you want to know if you're looking for what's coming in 3.6 either the appropriate talking areas or question areas for this week's show you can check out robert's based industries comm slash roadmap that'll show you the the general feature set for alpha 3.6 and yeah we'll take questions live in two places either the twitch chat which is on twitch TV star stars isn't which you already know if you're watching this live and if you're watching it later on youtube sorry you missed your chance or you can sort your questions in spectrum which is
- 00:03:25
our bespoke communication platform that velbon robert space industries calm weather you submit to either one please preface your question with the word questions in capital letter surrounded by brackets that'll help us pull it out from all the other conversations going on in addition to the live chat we put up a thread earlier in the week where we collected questions from star citizens and let them vote on which ones they wanted to see answered most so we'll go ahead and start with some of those ones a lot of the questions predictably had to do with the law system so we're just we're just gonna start in with questions to the law system the first court the most the highest voted question we got was how do we clear our crime stats when our crimes are tracked in different locations now anyway that's plays star citizen since 2.0 launched as familiar with going to Space Station Korea and having to you
- 00:04:14
know fight through people to to clear your crime your crime stat with the addition of multiple crime Fagor factions or however you want to say it is it just Korea now or what what are we doing though no it's basically the way that the lure for Stanton is thought about is from a federal and state level and so if you think from a federal level that would be you EE and then from a state level that be Hearst in our crusade or blackjack for area teen or micro touch for micro chunky so if it's a misdemeanor then it really is dealing with the the lower level like planet or local security and
- 00:05:03
basically paying off your you are fine there or even going in and and you know like what you're doing with Korea which was was basically kind of hacking so we did introduce some new tools for the hacking which would be a it's a little bit like the hacking will take a little bit longer there's a chip now that you can go and find in different places within the universe we're not going to kind of list those but I'm sure if you go to grim hacks or you go to other places there you'd be able to see what we're talking about and then from there and you can go into comm arrays and and those types of things access those so the but if we're talking abouts the UE aspect I need to go through and I
- 00:05:54
haven't been able to play every single part of the law system so I don't know if I make a you EE crime if I can just go to a micro tech or sorry if I can go to a Hurston location and pay it off I'm assuming that you can got because we don't have a a ue specific like space or anything in the system correct so yeah so it sounds like there'll be multiple places to try to affect your criminality record not just Korea yeah and and and and not just legally but you can also affect it illegally meaning like if you want to lower it and you don't want to pay the fine you can go and find ways to hack it gotcha so you have the option to if you break broken the law to address it
- 00:06:41
legally and just go and put like hey there's a bounty on my head you know it's I really like you people stop following me you can just pay it off or you're gonna tempt to find if further illicit means to erase your illicit record yes yes basically cool yeah oh another real popular question about the law system this has been a question for a while how does how does the law system differentiate between murder and self-defense so kind of the same way it did before which is if you have kind of like a prolong initiative or initiation with somebody so if you are on the attacker fronts then basically if you're shooting first and you're dealing kind
- 00:07:31
of the the most damage threshold then you're viewed as the attacker and so and it really depends on how it when it comes in so like if you're doing the most damage up front then basically you are beautifui occur and then at that point the person can retaliate in self-defense yeah I asked I asked look Presley for some information specifically about this question and he sent me a text block of code it's a it works like this and I will I must confess to not understanding most of it but it was nice to at least see that there's a there's a capitalist involved here and whether it's always going to be correct or whether it always gets it right you know that's something
- 00:08:18
we can continue to balance in tweak over time it's like that so it's cool all right one of the things that was mentioned in yesterday's ISC was the junkyards it was specifically to related to one things that caught a lot of people's attention was the ability to take stolen ships and have them chopped up now that was speaking for the law system in general is is that going to be in three six specifically the junkyard will be but as far as like being able sells you ships or soulless cells stolen ships yeah slightly used selling stolen ships no but obviously selling you know cargo or those types of stolen goods that's the that's the whole point of these you
- 00:09:07
know we can call them black markets but you know that's it's it's basically just a dealer or somebody that will deal with a illicit goods a you you use the plural before there other more than one junkyards what we're in one areas like this throughout the system or is that you know that go I go one stops everybody's gonna be going to this one place there well I mean basically we have we have grim hacks you know I think everybody knows about that one so and each one of them like grim hacks will give you a certain price you know for these things but if you want to go search out other lesser-known areas then at that point in time you can you can find those okay we got a question from the live chat here with the law system
- 00:09:56
three point six will we continue to have armistice zones I yes but basically we are working towards removing those or adjusting them I think our first first thing will be will be grim hacks and so we'll figure out how we want to adjust that whether that just be taking it out completely but I think part of the part of the things that we need to work out before that that happens is security and so with law we just have ways of saying okay you broken the law this is how much it's going to cost versus it was security we have ways to basically really enforce that and say okay you broke the law
- 00:10:43
this is either it's going to cost you your life or you know will shoot down your ship or will disable you or so and so forth so and in particular within locations being able to have that security so that you can basically protect people that that are not you know not breaking the law right yeah that kind of leads me into it and one of the questions from the from the thread there it said well this first iteration of the law system prevent there's a pad ramming but can't a law system prevent trolling prevent bad behavior it's preventing the right word well it can't prevent it it it can it can basically financially slap you on the hand intercom yeah it can deter it that way but basically until we can actually get
- 00:11:34
the security system then at that point I'm the rammer we'll get shot down I do so so at some point like I know we've talked about you know automated turrets we've talked about you know security forces the various ends when it detects a player doing trolli behaviors like that yeah there will be there will be a response conceivably it would be possible for players to defend against that response it's certainly greatest yeah yeah I think so but again I mean if you think of other games like it's there are points in time when it becomes overwhelming odds right you know against you and so well at the bounty gets high enough you know so then players actually start hunting you as well or if multiple
- 00:12:22
you know if you E comes after you then we're talking about the stanton system which is in the heart of the UE correct yeah when we get to the point of other systems that are close to the law yeah yeah we go to Knicks or when we go to pyro or or even you know vanduul systems or something like that the idea is that with this law system it allows us to you to basically set laws at a solar system level you know and then from there we have zones that can basically increase or decrease you know what's is viewed as legal you know in that area so for example you know certain drugs are legal in Colorado or in Amsterdam or you know and liquors legal in certain parts of
- 00:13:16
the world and illegal in other parts of law so it's it's kind of the same idea yeah it's you know we don't obviously there's a pretty healthy player-versus-player community and stuff and you don't want to try to you don't want to necessarily stifle that with too much automation and protection at the same time we do want a safe guard a reasonable play experience for for the majority of the community and stuff so yeah I mean for the average player like if somebody's griefing then you know we want to we want to protect that other person's experience as well I'm willing to bet at some point we can do an entire show just on PvP but all right what are the scales of punishments for crimes depends on the crime that you
- 00:14:07
commit so I mean it can it can basically be a felony or a misdemeanor so if you bump somebody that's um that's me it would be a misdemeanor if you kill somebody that's federal or is sorry that's a felony so yeah thanks exactly you still kill something to have it not be me true true so and then the punishments in 3:6 not necessary for the law system the futures I know we still want to expand on this and and if a but in three six the the scale of penalties and three six would be yes it's fine it's dealing with bounty hunters you know that will come and come after you and then it will also deal with basically if security finds you straight up killing you kind of
- 00:14:56
thing or fighting fighting you next question says will we be able to sell cargo on ships that we have stolen that's actually a good question I don't know that the answer to that one we can I know that we can sell stolen cargo mm-hmm so but if you're still on your ship and you or sorry if you're on the stolen ship and you take it there I think that works but basically be at grim hacks or some of the other locations that I talked about or that I hinted adds that you'd be able to go in fines yeah it's it's when I was pre-gaming and talking to Luke Presley it's one of those things
- 00:15:44
where it's the challenge and answering some of these things because there's there's what our intention is which will come in like three seven three eight three nine you know it's subcompact so then there's what will actually make it in through testing and blazing through yeah it's hard to keep that straight sometimes it's easy to say what our kid wants to be yeah and a lot of times when we put out this first iteration you know there's things that basically we go through an internal QA you know tests tests lists you know for for this and so with that in particular on these first iterations a lot of times some stuff will get turned on some stuff will get turned off based off of that we call it a QA TR so and I think right now everything is in in particular for the
- 00:16:34
law system but that did come in very very recently yeah I questioned why dad says how is paying a fine handled I think we covered that by going to the the different locations you know the Microtech location with the micro tech are going to the arccorp location if it's our corpse going to the yeah you know and and just a it is it a kiosk is it is it interacting with an NPC do we no no it's it's a kiosk so it's it's not interacting with the PC version now that question of live chat you know have you changed the crimes that icon so that it can show you what your crime set is and in different zones like how will that be community how are we communicating what I don't that is in different zones I don't think that we've changed it just yet I think that's that will just that will happen as we continue to go so it might be that when
- 00:17:23
you fly into different areas that it updates but that that would be all zone based right now so considering I haven't been able to play that aspects or when I've been playing I haven't been focusing on that I've been focusing more on like hover mode or mining there those types of things so that will be the the next thing I do over these the coming week and of course that'll be out for testing and then the I don't want to say when I don't know when like I said yes we're gonna find out together well it's it's an e-book Adi right now so I mean there were some some deadlocks that we were we're running into and there was also some little bit of stuttering that we were running into and before we turned it to wave one we wanted to solve those issues
- 00:18:11
how did shopkeepers know the difference between stolen and legit trade commodities right now it's it's just a flag that we have internally in the future again it will be that's it's just a continued flag that they have as far as the interaction with the shopkeepers then that to me is something that we have yet to work out like how we want them to kind of question you and say you know is this good you know or how did you come about this kind of thing so that's but right now ill be dealing with kiosks from the live chat what happens when I don't have money you can't pay my fines uh right now you look over your filter right now
- 00:19:02
I think you died looks like real life well I guess you go to jail so but that's that's something that in the future you know we'll be working towards on okay this mission came in a couple of places if someone takes off vertically or very abruptly from a hanger and then hits someone who was flying over it according to the law system who's to blame for that crash I think all things being equal and let's say somebody was above it and the person taking off Article II I think it would be the person taking off vertically that in because they they hit them now right away with traffic yeah yeah basically in
- 00:19:51
traffic so that's the way it should work right now I was surprised at how many people voted that question have those like that's a very big concern quite yep but I I think it I mean some of the things would be ok are they sitting right above the hanger or they sitting right above the landing pad or the griefing you know those are all things that you know kind of like with the ramming question I think that these are all things that we'll have to take into account and and you know work through can we employ preventative measures like turning off comm arrays so it's harder to have a crime pinned on us yes so I think I mentioned earlier just kind of this hacking chip that we have so we put that we put that gameplay into
- 00:20:42
the into the comm arrays so now when you get one of those hacking chips it's it's not just going into the comm array and just turning it on or off yeah now there's a little bit of time associated with that and I believe there are missions that actually gets spawned off of that so then it basically becomes kind of an ecosystem like what we have what we've talked about with other other areas where you know you want people showing up and and I'm in this case people that are showing up are more than likely trying to stop you so therefore you know I'm sure that you'll want to attack them yep we're different your self from the from the live chat why weren't those new salvaged outposts the
- 00:21:29
junkyards on the roadmap I think it's a good opportunity just remind folks that not everything is on the roadmap no and I can guarantee you that there's stuff on that's on scheduled for 3 7 that we're working on right now that personally I would like to keep hidden from the roadmap we'll see if that happens but yeah I mean yeah it's it's a it's a good time to remind folks it gets lost sometimes the roadmap is a it's not a table of contents of everything that's been being worked on it's a it's an indicator of things that we expect or intend to release each quarter but there are the are many things that are exploratory there are many things that are a little more R&D and we do it like we don't know
- 00:22:18
if they're going to work we don't know if we even want them we don't know it's precise we don't have to know how long it's gonna take so we when we're you're in that kind of nebulous area we keep them off the road map until we know more about them and you know we try to be as responsible as we can with the information that we give that we give the community yeah and with the timetable that we give community we don't always succeed but it doesn't stop us from trying each and every month well in even with let's say we have internally we have an FBS team we have FPS AI oh we have a ship AI and we have what we consider socially I each each you know quarter that scheme is working on multiple things how we're on the roadmap for the most part we only show one you know one for each kind of thing but you know but we work on multiple
- 00:23:09
things and so we just the way that we view it is okay we we feel like this is the bitten the biggest one that should probably go on the roadmap but there's a lot of other things that that are being worked on and and focused on you know by that team to actually solve and that goes across all of our different feature teams or content teams and sometimes like you said the very beginning so as we just like the surprise yeah III mean that's there's good parts about being as open as we are and then there's bad parts about being as open as we are is is that a lot of times you know at least from my standpoint there's things that need trial and error and need iteration and so that's a lot of times with freedom with other game development that
- 00:23:59
happens all behind closed doors you know and so but the good thing is is that we get to play it we get to see how people react to it we get to iterate off off of it versus basically holding everything back and then saying okay this is what we what we put together and then if people either like it or they don't you know and getting that feedback a lot earlier helps you know shape it too to what it needs to be but at least um I like to have you know surprise to people a little bit you know what it's fun it's fun I mean the next thing I wanted to say I'm like no that's gonna reveal something so never mind all right let's
- 00:24:48
move on from loss system for a bit I'm sure we'll probably come back to before we're done who knows but let's talk about some of the space stations obviously we the environment art team Eddie and stuff they've done some tremendous work on the on the new space stations everybody's super excited about them we we know on the roadmap there's a card for exterior so it was on three six there's a part for interiors that's on three seven so will we be able to walk around the interiors of these space stations in three six even though we see the card for three seven well it will be having the same interiors that or basically just a little bit of variation from well we had on three five three four kind of thing what we're working towards in the future is building out the space station so it has you know a
- 00:25:37
let's say maintenance area or a gravity room power room so and so forth so like all these kind of utilitarian aspects that would go into a building or into a space station and then Habs you know for the employees that that live and work there and then there's basically two social areas that we have right now so when we go into like 373 a that's we're trying to build those three sections and so every out or every station that we be putting out would have those there some of them would be able to be accessed some of them wouldn't be able to be accessed you know but they would still technically be there and so that allows us to have parity across the board so if we do something where it's a station that's living and breathing and working
- 00:26:26
you know just think of it like a building if you go into an office building a lot of times there's security there and you can go into let's see you can go into lobby but you can't go into the whole building versus if the building is a derelict then you can go in through the whole building and check it out I was in I was in Washington DC in January and there's a an engineering building that our Einstein worked at there's a giant statue of Albert Einstein in front of it and apparently nobody had walked in there for quite some time because I walked in there and they were so happy to see somebody walk over and they're just like you want to look around and I'm like sure and I'm like leave me the area of your ID that's my tea and I was just able to like wander through the building looks cool like I wandered and I like just started trying doors I open
- 00:27:14
the door and there was just some dude at his desk I'm like sorry he goes and I was they just gave me free range was very odd it was a very odd sensation but but that's I mean that's basically the way we think about Space Station so if you know if it's a derelict or like kobol X then you know theoretically you can go through that whole thing first is if it's a living breathing station we don't expect I don't expect them to be able to go through everything and then of course another popular question with these new exterior variations we've heard mentioned for a while that we want to change Porto authorities is 3:6 the patch where we change Port Louis or is that still three six is not that where we change the port almost so basically
- 00:28:03
we have what we consider rest stops or truck stops and then portalis are to me is a combination between a cargo depot and a rest stop so and the way that I've I've always viewed portal azari's is very much like a port where you get these massive ships that come in holies you know unload their cargo and then from there that's ferried down to arisin but right now I would at least from my standpoint I would like to get I would like us to get a little bit of the cargo depot aspects working you know in order to kind of fully replace it but CR might want us to do it sooner than later all right let's move on just in general kind
- 00:28:52
of what I'm calling life and the verse questions that came in right off the bat an ever popular question that comes up pretty regularly will we ever get a compass and coordinate system what's the challenge here well it's in all honesty it's not something that CR Tony Aaron or I have talked about anytime recently I can see the need for it or the desire for it obviously you know in in other games you're dealing with really just kind of X Y Z you're really just dealing with X Y vs with us you're dealing with X Y Z and then possible rotation in orbits and I think there's some some headache there that would have to be
- 00:29:44
talked through yeah obviously the we want the planets and the moons anything to rotate you know not just around the Sun but the moon to rotate around the planets and stuff that creates some interesting challenges from from my part I also got to think there's some there's some reticence behind having a bunch of coordinates you know listed out on a website like all the answers to everything you know put up on a website like this is here at this courts this is here at this court you see that in a lot of mmo's you know back in the old thoughtbot or Wow head days you know it's like the answer to where everything was when a person started was right there available on a website and we've talked a lot about the ability to when you discover something to bookmark something and be able to you know eventually sell that bookmark and stuff coordinate systems kind of kind of
- 00:30:33
clash with that well I mean even even with the information you know we're talking about like a type we're talking about X Y Z we're talking ballots you know amount so when when we start working on data you know and data as a as a packet or data as you know like with cargo we have s use and storage points associated with cargo I see the same thing as data you know or data in the same way and in Simon Tony Tony dust as well so when we start working on that then I think we would start talking about okay well how are we can actually map this and you know does it is it important for us to map it so and of course I mean yeah I'm talking about some element of this is inevitable I mean it's yeah but
- 00:31:23
they're gonna be I mean if we're a game is successful as we want to be there are gonna be plenty of websites with all these with as many you know secrets put out there and it doesn't mean we have to make it easier though but it just to consideration I'm not saying it's a reason to stop us from doing it I'm just saying it's something that has to be considered in the conversation with what Eltham Utley decided to do well and I think part of its right now we're so focused on building you know basically these the planetary bodies you know and when when we start talking about okay hey if you're mapping these planetary bodies or you you're you're basically being an explorer then that's amis when I think a lot of this stuff becomes a little bit more useful in particular from a career standpoint as well as once
- 00:32:10
we get data and you know the the concept of data actually into the game then I think that's where a lot of this these start wrapping themselves together right now it's right now we don't have fun yeah I want to make sure folks understand it's easy to hear one sense and forget the other ones we're not saying that it's not going to happen we're saying that they're not we're going through percent there's considerations there's a lot of things we still have to consider you know things we still have to to involve there's a lot of different disparate systems that have to work together before we need to find a solution that encompasses them all and it's considered considering we're still working on skin and we're working on scanning and we're working on basically balancing of the ship combat and we're working on power and all of these other really kind of course systems I view those as more
- 00:33:01
important you know than getting a coordinate system in and I think CR and others do as well so still conversations to be had still things to consider in the roadmap and then I see this quarter we talked a little bit about harvestable entities what our harvestable entities in as far as 3.6 is concerned and what can we harvest I mean right now it's mining you know that's that's basically what harvestable entities are um but the idea behind this tech is for us still to be able to spawn anything you know so if we want to spawn a rack of guns we can spawn a rack of guns this allows us to spawn plants you know so that you can go and do fruits you can do you can go have
- 00:33:52
orchards you can go find things on the planets so or things in the cave like you know what we've shown off before so this this even allows us to you to spawning of harvest apples within object containers so for example if we put out a ship you know then basically this is our fundamental building blocks of how we redo our derelicts because our dere looks right now are really just placed there and then anything that's spawned within those derelicts that the player can really interact with that's that's only spawned when a mission you know comes in all right with that derelict so with this this allows us to go through and kind of revamp the way that we've done derelict so that it's it's working more towards what we consider a loot
- 00:34:42
system right the Tex first implementation is mining but and I've talked to Dan a couple times you know it's mining is where you'll see this new harvestable entity tech first manifest but I mean it can once we have things like the the personal inventory and stuff you know we can expand it to all kinds of stuff right but I mean you've seen it with like the plants that we work on so there's there's absolutely no reason why we can't have fruits on those plants and then you can go and actually collect that fruit and you can go take it somewhere you know start Apple crossing and an animal crossing yes what is a Apple crossing yes be quite JJ I'm here you snickering back there a follow-up to the mining question will we see surface mining rocks appear
- 00:35:32
in plausible or identifiable locations for example certain mineral types always appear at the rim of large craters others only appear in canyon walls etc etc the geology buff here so right now the way that we spawn it's I don't think we have that control over it so it's it's basically spawned based off the biome and so the overall biome has a certain and probability and to to spawn it there I don't think we have a way to to basically say okay within this biome there's certain points of interests you know that's would be a higher higher rate doesn't mean that we can't do it in fact if you send me a note about it I'll go talk to today and about those things
- 00:36:24
yeah so I yesterday in ISC we saw Kirk talk and Tad talk Kirk and Tad Kirk and Chad Wow having trouble talking I talk about a bunch of improvements to the communication system we saw the the new ship channels we saw the the new identifier that lets you that tells you who's actually talking to you and stuff the question in chat was in addition to that are there any improvements to the grouping system to have we form groups or or travelling groups in any group deck as far as I know this stuff went in last night so I haven't had a chance to play it at all okay so and I've been
- 00:37:15
waiting for response from Sean first but basically as soon as I get that response from Sean or I can play it myself then I know that we have about seven points that we were really trying to hit some of that actually let me pull that up real quick I will pull it up on my phone I'm sorry but I'll sing a song or something [Music] so the point so the ones that we were trying to address ship hailing video calls basically video streaming rendering ship channels so entering a ship join in a ship's channel when selecting the ship channel you can join it you can do pipe chats to other
- 00:38:04
members moby glass channel preferences audio widget invite channel to party in global proximity channel so those those were the things that we were working on however I still have yet to be able to see if all of that stuff is in working the way that we want it to work we saw we saw a couple of those on ICS ji working with calyx to get this stuff so at least a couple of those are yeah but as far as it going into a QA TR it being in three six all of that stuff it being integrated yeah that's the part that's the part that I want to make sure you know the team's happy with it and we're happy with it before it goes out alright for more life on the first questions
- 00:38:52
here will we see a more logical approach to the supply and demand levels for trading commodities between moons and outposts and planets yes that's me is something that's being constantly iterated on basically in the future the ideas that we have different influence the indifference I would say ways of inputting and outputting you know things in into and out of the solar system whether that be let's say your manufacturing plants and manufacturing plant is requiring you know let's say 50 tons of silver you know and so therefore silver goes up you know the price for silver you know goes up in that area and so therefore you know bronze or or other
- 00:39:45
elements are lower and versus in another area you know bronze is extremely important let's say to Microtech and ends their mobile gloss that they build or that kind of stuff so that's the once we get that kind of system into the economy then that's that's when I I think getting the stuff to be a little bit more on the fly and to be able see those those peaks and valleys you know of what they require in being able you know see that via app or something like that I think that's that's when a lot of that will come across to the player because right now we do do certain things and I think it's kind of hidden to to people and and it doesn't some of that work isn't being
- 00:40:32
shown off exactly the way that we want it to be shown off that's very in three point six is a step in the right direction it's a step towards that desirable final step means it correct you know and I I think you even preview games or you you sent me over one regarding ship prices and so I will jump to that one yep how our ships priced in the our ships price in the kiosks being determined are they random and should we expect them to change in the future yes you should expect them to change in the future even in three six you will see changes in the future or we're sorry in the past it had been kind of random you know but basically Jake and Rob and the economy team are basically breaking down
- 00:41:22
the the hulls breaking down the items and moving also moving towards the way that CR wants it which is all kind of we call it recipe based but it's also you know saying okay well this ship is outfitted with these items and these items you know add X amount of value to the ship so therefore it should be priced at this this level so and CR obviously wants it's you know to being as real as possible so you saw some of those changes on basically the 300 series in particular like with the customizing when the customizer stuff rolled out and then from there we're basically doing a sweep through all of our other ships and then the goal is to you basically try to get as much of that in in three six um and
- 00:42:12
then obviously with any point patches or three something there's the intrinsic value there there's how much all the the sum of the parts you know yeah way to but there's also an ephemeral value there's a there's a desire factor you know it's a Porsche you know kombucha component-wise you know may not be I don't trying to say you know when you can add up all the cost of all the components of a Porsche and you add up all the cost of a couple amounts of a BMW they're gonna come closer than what the reality of the price difference is like there's a luxury tax imposed on some cars in the world there's a there's an exclusivity tax imposed on manufacturers
- 00:43:02
it's an Apple tax is a great way is a great obviously the Apple computers are not are not three times better than any PC in the world but the price that way so does that come into effects in our other sunlight that we had that additional like Apple tax on their to encourage a level of exclusivity to them I mean part of that I think part of that will come through the whole slash manufacturer aspect of it you know not necessarily the same components but that's there is that idea behind it so so for example an origin ship versus a Drake ship you know that those to me are two very different manufacturers and known for two different things so you know like you said Porsche versus BMW or or let's say a Porsche versus a Ford you know those those are
- 00:43:52
two very different manufacturers and so you know there is a certain luxury or style tax or whatever you want to call it I just I just we speak about wanting it real as possible I just always think that it's not only the sum of the parts and I and I think a lot of times when you when you actually if you bought all the parts for a car you know it's it's something like 25 to 30 percent more than what the actual what you bought the car for yeah but yeah but that's that's that's basically something that were we're working through right now and and where we're trying to fix it's an interesting calculus to be certain weapon attachments we see we've seen a card for
- 00:44:41
weapon attachments on our roadmap for a while now what what weapon attachments if any are we thinking have a chance at making three point six so right now we have four different styles of weapon attachments what will be making for three sixes one of them and that's optics so and then from there it'll be barrel under barrel in magazine but optics is the first one and so then at that point I'm just switching out sights sights scopes right typical like red dot or whatever and then down the line we want to continue you said barrel underbarrel hunter bells like a flashlight I'm guessing or something like that flashlights Burt grip angled grip you know different ways to affecting recoil maybe ideally and then I'm magazine so two different types of magazines so you
- 00:45:31
can customize your weapon further through the magazine yeah but uh four three six where we're aiming for the opposite side it's just optics so it's it's the first again its first step so we want to make sure that that's that's right first and then we move move on to the next one right away in the live chat somebody asked them but the sights big customer because might as well can I change the color of the the dot I don't know yet it's still in QA TRN yeah and the guy who sits right behind me I'm he's it's not fun it's just because the way that we I think for them because it's it's the whole experience it's not only them just doing it but now we also
- 00:46:20
have to have them in the shops and you have to be able to buy them and the user experience of buying them and input and putting them on these are all things that the future the future team a lot of times just make sure that it goes on and off right now and then basically thinking about making sure that they think about the whole loop you know a lot of times they they don't have to deal with it from the weapons standpoint they've always just said okay hey here the weapon here's the weapon you know add it to you for the most part it just goes into a kiosk versus actually in stores so this one we have to put them in stores and make sure that they work I all an attachment story there's something you're probably just in inside one of their yeah they're just abundance yeah yeah so can I make room for now exactly okay will MPC security forces be responding to player combat
- 00:47:10
assist beacons if no-one picks it up after a short period of time not four three six but soon in the future yes yeah will there be any changes or additions to missions in three point six to enhance mission gameplay well there's basically the the hacking stuff that we've been working on I know that the guys have gone through some work and I want to see how the extent of it but basically a lot of times what we were doing was sending players from one side of the university of the other side of the universe and not kind of clustering them around to each other and so us talking about how we can cluster things a little bit better so that you're not
- 00:47:59
spending you know 27 minutes in QT because that's not fun so that's kind of some of the stuff that we've been we've been working towards and then from there I think just general fixes and basically quality of life stuff that's the that's been a major one on the roadmap we've seen a card listed as player free look and this actually came through the thing but this is I'm gonna ask it as if it's my question what the hell does that mean but it's play for the III softer and I don't know what it means so with FPS basically there think of it as you're aiming down the sights where you're you're looking down
- 00:48:48
here okay in the past basically this has all been unified so if you try to move your heads your weapons moving as well so free lick would just be then I could move my head I can look around so just like in ships if I'm sitting there I can look you know my body doesn't move with me so that's that's basically what free look is I was being able to do that in fps yeah because very very early on I think we unified basically the aim and look targets together and now we run unifying those two to actually get free look can you tell us more about what the improvements the jump mechanic mean I basically when it was first done that
- 00:49:35
there was a lot of there was a lot of assets so a lot of different assets for for jump and fall because when we think of that system those two are combined together so this is to actually kind of clean up those assets and and make it be more responsive so when you actually jump before it used to be that you had have to jump and then finish that animation and then from there be able to carry on to things to you know whatever other and thing you were doing now you will smoothly transition from jump into the other activity whether that be a sprint or to crouch or whatever so it really is just kind of cleaning that stuff up and making it or fluid question from the chat about FPS weapons
- 00:50:24
you know usually we get a collection of new FPS weapons every quarter how do we decide what weapons are included like this quarter where there's a pistol and an SMG I know on the roadmap for next quarter I think there's a rocket launch the Animus rocket launcher incident how do we decide what the end so I mean very like a while ago you know we we build a matrix you know and so when when we start talking about let's say establishing bearing or can w or or any other brand you know manufacturer for for this we start talking about okay do they have a pistol do they have a SMG do they have assault rifle do they have shotgun do they have you know all these
- 00:51:11
different variations of weapons and then at that point in time we do concept art for those you know so we see it as a family and I thought then from there we start building these things out and we have a matrix of you know all right hey this one has a pistol and this is how this pistol feels so what is kind of real-world equivalent to that pistol you know is it a Dirty Harry basically pistol or is it's a Glock you know or is it a little 22 or are we doing a desert eagle like you know it's it's us talking about kind of those feels across the board and then but we do that across everything and then we say okay here's the matrix of it here's what kind of
- 00:52:00
damage type it does it's kinetic its energy its corrosive or it's Distortion or is it a mixture between those things and then at that point in time you have this big matrix of weapons and so I think what people are seeing they're seeing like these little snippets of us doing these releases but we have a big matrix of hey here here are the weapons that we have in the game and how we want to balance them tune them make sure that each one of them feels unique and that's what the FPS team right now is you know we have this long list and we're over time basically shifting these things and as the tech come comes online to do plea be able to do the different damage types that we want to do so that's that's basically what we're what we're doing
- 00:52:49
and how we think about it I don't even have to look at the chat to know that at least four people have asked can you release the matrix I don't even know it something yeah III think what we'll do I think what we'll do is is maybe we can have a we can do a segment on in design that's really just have a conversation directly like this I was dead I think speaking to JJ and rich like that I think they would be able to knock you through it and it goes to you know kind of our thought process on it and how how we want each weapon each manufacturer to feel so and kind of where where they're at in the process you know where that weapon fits into the matrix you know in and it's the same thing with ships we have a ship matrix as well I'm literally I'm making myself
- 00:53:38
a note just next quarter and I see I think we can do a discussion segment about I have been there I think they do great job and so just so you don't panic JJ he meant Johnny just save yes not you yes yeah you you're not gonna be on is C sorry all right we're almost at a time we know that a ship purchasing the ship purchasing kiosks are coming to three point six obviously we've had shippers seen in the game for a while just for the ships that you could see inside new deal and it teaches just like that ship key us allow us to add more inventory than corrective beyond what we have room for we know that ship renting was on the 336 for a while it's not now what can you tell us about how hip renting will
- 00:54:27
work a lot of the questions we got had to do with insurance like I had his insurance work if I if I just destroy a rental strip am I gonna end up paying for it no so the idea is basically right now they it's almost like purchasing it for three days five day seven days right now that's that's the concept of it and it's currently being worked on by that team so the the goal is that's you have you printed for X amount of days you know and in the first first release it might be three days or might be seven days or it might be that we give you a multitude of choices whether that be one day up to thirty days or six months or whatever like it's it's something that we need to
- 00:55:15
talk about you know as far as the amount of days it's really saying okay we feel like this is the Suites I think Tony and Tony and I we're basically talking about one-three-seven you know just to just in the short term yeah just in the short term just to let people try it out and and then even from there be able to go through and say Michelle owes up then you claim it you get that and you get it back and so it worked just like a short-term purchase for right now and then there's some edge cases that's obviously we still need to work through and and kind of user experience of it so saying okay well you know your ship needs to be returned to
- 00:56:04
this Aesop terminal or needs to be landed and what happens with the cargo associated with it or all these other you know kind of wonderful things that we need we have to deal with with in this game so but that's those are all things that's you know as as we're testing it you know there will be those edge cases that come up that we haven't thought about and we haven't talked about and we'll have to solve those all right I got two more questions for you they're more general outside the box stuff we had a lot of questions a lot of folks want to know about server-side OCS and and whether is three six the patch where server-side OCS comes I mean is there anything for server-side OCS being done with three six well I mean there's behind the scenes work that's always
- 00:56:53
being done you know and it's what it is we have a whole bunch of different feature teams and so for example I'll take what we call e EU 3 or that's what we used to call it which would be mining ok well the way that that mining was developed I don't think we have much server-side OCS work that needs to be done versus let's say vehicle feature team well there there might be a fair amount of server side OCS work that needs to be done so they they basically try to go through and switch these systems over as we go just because again with the vehicles then you're talking about IFC you're talking about you know power you're talking about heat you're talking about you know shield so and so forth
- 00:57:41
all these other items and in these commonly these features are culminations of a lot of little you know features coming together and so each one of those has to be working with server-side OCS that's the that's the pain of it Brian was trolling you behind the glass just there great last question before we let you go this is just an overall kind of production type of thing I don't mean on a producer but there are a few items that have slipped from the 3:6 roadmap obviously the some things are going to a3 6x patch like that like the a 90 jump still in our three six branch it'll be out before 37 hopefully we saw the same thing happen with three five
- 00:58:29
customization would be three five two three five one stuff like that the question was simply what are the difficulties faced with releasing content in 2019 when it was originally described as a less aggressive year we had Aaron Roberts on earlier and he talked about how we were going to be more conservative in our planning and stuff it's I guess it's basically just an overall question about about why is this tough why is game dev tough Todd I guess that's really what it kind of boils down to that's really what it comes down to well I think part of it is just there's with anything there's a certain amount of aggression you know or like with our roadmap it's Chris use it as best case possible whether that be somebody got sick you know and therefore you know a feature didn't come in on
- 00:59:21
time you know it and that that actually happened with with one of our features than three six one of our guys got sick and he was basically the main coder on it and it's it's it's coming in late you know it's coming in four three six but it's coming in late and so therefore that Cascades and other things even with the three three five one you know that did cascade a little bit into our three six and basically getting three six out to the on time which is unfortunate I you know this is the second release in a row that that we haven't been releasing on time and and I don't I don't like that you know because basically we should be day driven not feature driven on this and so some sometimes the future requires a
- 01:00:10
little bit more work there's too many bugs when a director plays it it's just not right you know and and it needs a little bit more time to percolate you know and I think basically when you start on the future the view of it might be this and then as you start working towards that actual release you know the view of it is okay now it's laser focus this is what it is and this is how this how it works the here all the edge cases worked out and then we go but I mean at least through all the game development that I've done in my life it's always gone you know like this right and we we do we can still see a lot of the date driven stuff you know that was the promise we made at the beginning of 2018 when we said we were switching over to the quarterly day
- 01:00:57
driven model is that you know if a feature wasn't ready you know if we weren't going to hold up the patch you know for an extended period of time like we did with 3.0 so that's why things like you know a they jump moved to a three you know three six x that's why the customization moved with three five one so I thought you know we try our best to find that balance between not cutting everything out so that we can make a date but at the same time you know making sure that that as much of what we want to be in that patch is still in that patch it's a it's an interesting balance well it and even then sometimes so for example like if we do if we break down this quarter so the idea is okay we're going in planning week you know does the first week of July is planning week and that's where
- 01:01:45
all the directors and and all the pillar producers and and everybody come together and says okay I need something from your team I need something from your team and then it's at that point in time it becomes a priority I don't want say nightmare but it's basically you know I'm juggling priorities Shawn's in priorities Tony's juggling priorities you know for what we want and then at that point in time we go into actual developing of those features and you have X amount of time so let's say maybe 2 to 3 sprints or 4 Sprint's if we're lucky and some features just can't be developed in 4 Sprint's some features can be developed into Sprint's you know some of them take a 6 or 8 you know and so then at that point in time when you start evaluating it and you start
- 01:02:34
looking at it and saying okay is this the is this what we want to put out as a company and sometimes that actually most the time it has been a yes and sometimes it is looking at and saying no that needs more time to percolate and of course there's always the unexpected the bugs the that you know everything works fine you know the integrations come no and and and one of our guys lost a week you know just just for integrating because there were some issues with perforce or other things like there's a lot of these kind of outside factors and the way I've always described development and game development is that it's an art it's not a science all right odd that's it you made it through another Todd talk thank you see
