yeah is this point where we start the show seems like it yeah we'll start the show hi everybody welcome to another episode of star citizen live game dev uh see you space cowboy i'm your host jared huckabee and if you've never seen the show because every show is somebody's first show uh our game dev episodes where we take an hour out of the end of our week and we hang out with an artist or a designer or a programmer or whomever and we explore a little bit about their process and you know just it's just creative kickback at the end of our week um joining us on the show uh this week is uh the only person who said yes uh when i asked uh jeremiah lee welcome back how you doing hi hi hi hello we tried to get literally anybody else on the show this week
- 00:00:49
why why would you do that because everything because every time we do this you don't take it seriously no what do you mean i i am star citizen jared you can send your letters here to robert space industries uh so yes so we are we are going to uh we are going to use this show to create something the last time we did this this type of show we created our our um our space creature armors oh that's right um armor concepts we had we had chants on the show the time before that we made the uh vintage tavarin war ue military uniforms uh which actually uh actually made it through the concept process
- 00:01:36
got approved and are currently available to subscribers right now is uh this month's subscriber flare so we've done these kind of shows for a while you know space dogs and stuff we always make something and we always send them out and we always send them through the process and pipeline they don't always make it through because it turns out it takes longer than an hour to make anything good most times uh but but uh yeah we we hit a winner with those uh ue uniforms so um jury's still out on the creature uniforms no yes or no there yet but today what are we doing today jeremiah wait you're not going to have me introduce myself go ahead well stop leaning out of the frame like where are you you're not looking at what it is okay there you go you have to look at it
- 00:02:24
i fixed your frame okay okay okay okay hi hi i'm i'm jeremiah lee i'm the lead concept for us here in the la studio uh aka uh jared's love interest uh the protagonist aka concert anyways uh we will be we'll be doing a space cowboy today uh something that i think i've had some conversations that passed uh citizencons i had some bar citizens and also some talks in the office as well like space cowboy has always been something that's been brought up to me consistently and i thought like why not why not give it a shot why not why not we can do a star citizen space cowboy now this will be our interpretation of
- 00:03:14
one possible interpretation of the idea of space cowboy we're obviously not going to you know we want to stay away from you know other pop culture versions like you know han solo or or mal reynolds or you know or bebop or whatever so this so we'll be exploring what it mean what what the idea of a space cowboy means to in the star of citizen universe right right right um so yeah so um this is the point in the show where i would say go ahead and share your screen this is the point in the show where historically i have regretted the next three to four minutes um no you won't no no you won't it's this is this is the best part of the stream this is the best part of the show can i can i can i can i unleash i'm just i i'm pleased to know that you won't have any imagery of me as i look
- 00:04:01
right now since i've shorn all right go ahead do it let's get it over with all right all right so um i say this every stream um no concept starts without a reference board uh pull my little video out of the corner there but you're so cute though okay i'll move you can look again um so um i i actually spoke with jared very briefly was i think yesterday or two days ago and just like what we could possibly put together um and i start off the conversation when we when we think uh cowboy it's always the american cowboy right and so i was like yeah we can always do that generic cowboy type of look and then do uh like a sci-fi flare to it so i have brought that in here um like your your typical like you know
- 00:04:49
american cowboy [Music] um the uh with a little bit of um spanish influence uh but we also talked about potentially um adding different uh different cultures as well so i did a bunch of research on the i'm going to butcher it was it charos i think chares or charos which is like the the mexican cowboy um so i i did i grabbed a bunch of references on there's a slight difference in the uh the cuts and also the uh what do you call that the the fabrics and the little uh embroidery which i thought was really cool uh and also this one i like this image as well it kind of it's it it harkens to the american the american cowboy but it's got its own flair so i
- 00:05:38
do like what's happening here um and also did some extra research on the the middle middle eastern because cowboys and western films were very popular in um the 1900s um so i did some research on what the middle eastern uh side would wear uh i forgot what they were called but they were like horse and cow uh herders in the middle east and so i grabbed some references also got some ottoman empire and some indian uh references as well so so that we can get bring in some little bit of mixture of cultures and this one i got this is a hungarian cowboy so i wish i thought was really cool and because uh yeah uh but also because like star citizen is 900 years in the
- 00:06:26
future um kind of like today how um a lot of the cultures kind of like we share a lot of the fabrics now and a lot of the cuts so what would that look like 900 years in the future when we started maybe some of the cultures started bleeding in with each other to create this new type of look was kind of the idea um so that was kind of like oh uh i'll say ah more references uh four but you just had a whole net like so i mean i i have i have a lot of faces that i can i can use so yeah um so i got the references um
- 00:07:14
and uh i think i would like to kind of do the old style that we used to do before which was the the silhouette i remember we did that for the what do we do that one for for the oh the the the chef lando one remember we started off with a bunch of silhouettes i think that'd be a good idea to do again because i know we i've done a lot of people enjoyed that process and i kind of want to go back to it because i think i jumped in straight into painting the last time but i think the sketching uh loose and the solos won't be a good idea so i'm just going to try um my first sketch is always the oh what's the the the not so favorable not so favorable not so good one i guess english uh just because it's
- 00:08:04
like it's very loose and i'd like i haven't warmed up yet yeah so like my my normal sketches originally are very very loose um and i just want to get an idea of potentially like what that look could look like just like the the broad view the broad shapes now right off the bat i see the pancho there it looks that looks like he's wearing a poncho to me um also i think yeah the requirements i think for this one is i kind of want to stay away from armor uh and i kind of want to get dabbled more into like a um uh like like a clothing because i think um because i want to
- 00:08:54
introduce because a lot of this is heavy on fabric and i don't want to incorporate some armor i could add i could do some sun protection here and there but i don't want this to be like a like a suit that you like travel um like do some exploratory stuff like in a um in a hazardous environment like like you would wear like uh the caldera suit for example like and there's nothing to say you don't have a hidden you know uh antique stove door underneath your serape sure five points to anybody who understands the reference there see uh the hat though i feel like that hat is always very iconic
- 00:09:42
um but it's kind of like sure i'm not sure about it let's just put this one on hold this is the part where i look at the right i look at the chat and i see the differences between the people who say back to future three and the people who say the reference that back to the 3 was referencing and i can instantly tell how old somebody is um but jared if you have some ideas or like or just spitball some stuff um well i i think i so so obviously we have a lot of
- 00:10:32
inspiration for for you know cowboy stuff here for the old west stuff but how and we're maybe we're not at that point yet but how do we make it space how do we update it you know what elements do we bring forward you know a thousand years in the future thousand years in the future and still retain you know a a a a discernible style that is you know a thousand years behind it um do we use cybernetics do we do do we st uh we did we did you had a concept once where you had a uh you had shirts that were basically animated with like with like television stuff like stock tickers it's like that you know when we were exploring microtech you know can can the fabric be like a
- 00:11:21
high-tech moving animated style fabric maybe it was a way to bring it forward a thousand years um with the um you know with it with the hats you know maintain the basics you know silhouette but have all kinds of like techno stuff on it like like like techno goggles and and stuff like that that that might give it a more you know sci-fi flair it's it's just all the ways in which we can update the look from the 1800s and bring it to the 2900s i mean it really depends if kind of like if like the overall like silhouette right because right now that's all i'm doing right it's just a bunch of silhouettes right um so just like the the initial read
- 00:12:08
which is actually very important for video games because um a lot of times when you um see enemies or creatures in video games they're actually about that small right they only take about that much about screens an actual screen space and so they need to be kind of visually striking um even at this distance which is why a lot of times game artists or concept artists will uh start their concepts like on in this stage uh just so that they get the initial read so this one automatically you can that it's a cowboy from a distance um this one i'm not really so sure yet i could just add a now see that first one went from having a poncho to having a duster now i think that's probably two distinct silhouettes you're going to want you're going to want one that's in a either a pancho or a sarape
- 00:12:56
which is just the open you know the poncho with the sides open and then the duster is a classic is a classic look so you know i think you keep the sort you keep the the poncho there on the first guy and then your next your next silhouette uh has to have that classic uh duster look that you saw on like tombstone yeah yeah or whatever let's see i guess i mean like oh i was i was about to say something um i remember like uh the so the way i've been concepting is if the art direction is supposed to be like give me something i've never seen before i tend to make some crazy crazy shapes right so like
- 00:13:44
almost stuff that you wouldn't even recognize just to come up with some cool shapes and ideas um but if the the brief or the art direction is like give me something that already exists today but then i want you to put a like a sci-fi spin to it normally what i'll do is kind of like this step right here which is kind of like um these look like something that people can wear today and then when i start fleshing out the ideas um i'll start introducing some more interesting cuts so that's more within the silhouette um so from afar it might look like current day but then when i start detailing these things out it'll look more futuristic that definitely that definitely that third one there it looks
- 00:14:32
like it could be either a cape or it could be another more fully fleshed out uh uh serape yeah i just like saying the word serape sirapi sarapa sirabi actually i think i have a serape do you hold on i'm gonna go look at my closet don't don't do anything bad while i'm gone okay i can't even see the chat so i have no idea there's this one let's actually start looking at the i kind of want to bring the the middle eastern ottoman and indian style in here um but it's a bunch of it's a lot of overlapping of robes so it might be a little difficult
- 00:15:20
to do on the silhouette level but let's give it a shot oh my god you do i'm back stop whatever you're doing that was good i was a good boy i'll watch the replay that was a good boy let's see let's see i got my see i got my serape i got this i got this in uh a san antonio during a pax say not now i'm i'm authentically set up now you did something interesting there with the fourth one you don't see it i didn't see i didn't see hoods a lot in westerns
- 00:16:08
until like unforgiven and i'm not to say that there wasn't there weren't westerns with hoods just the iconic imagery that i had of westerns prior to unforgiven didn't usually include you know a hood and then unforgiven had a lot of great scenes out in the rain and stuff like that and uh it it it i was like oh well hoods make sense yeah of course that's my first thought when i see your fourth one there yeah i'm actually trying to bring in a little bit of the the middle eastern touch to it um where they have the um the the headdress that kind of ties into their cloak which i think would be really cool and also it gives us room to like um the this is also a stereotype that i need to be careful
- 00:16:59
is a lot of times in a lot of different franchises not just games but also in films um they've always portrayed um not always but a lot of times uh middle eastern clothing for like trading uh like merchants and stuff like that so i wanna i wanna try to take a stab at it where it breaks that trope where uh it where this person would look like uh an actual herder or like a uh like a cow herder or uh or like you know a cowboy but just in a different um i i want to break that if not i get you i get you i'm with it yeah so i think like a lot of cowboys like they do a lot of traveling as well so i might give them like a little
- 00:17:47
little pouch and little yeah maybe a little backpack i mean i i'm torn because you know obviously i'm a big fan of capes and and and and my idea of pi my pirates my ideal cowboy in my head has that you know that poncho the outlaw jose veils you know kind of thing but i'm really ex the things when i look at your mood board i'm really excited to explore things like the hungarian and stuff the the the roads that other properties don't necessarily take yeah i think that's a real easy way to instantly differentiate uh star citizen from the other from from other properties interpretations of the of space cowboy yeah it's it's also like i i try to like incorporate this in a
- 00:18:36
lot of my concepts it's like star citizen is a galactic type of franchise right it's not something that's like just happening in new york or or uh in london right this is actually this is a planetary planet like above just earth right there's galaxies and there's systems and so there's different kinds of cultures and um that's why especially in the banu when i did some of the concepts for the banu i wanted to steer away from a lot of the uh like i guess like western style so i introduced a lot of the middle eastern and a lot of asian style uh into the uh into the the banu one of this concepts for those yeah i'm really liking this one
- 00:19:25
i think this might be really cool um i'm thinking maybe yeah this one might be really cool to play with actually um i'm i'm not sure if they would want oh no they're actually very low interesting i would think that they would get really dirty and drag but like i guess maybe not yeah i don't know i don't know what the practical purpose of having the the long uh flowy capri pants are but we could maybe yeah i don't have some i don't have the history lesson necessary either do i just draw stuff
- 00:20:14
there's something there's something to this which is which i find very interesting actually uh let's move on uh somebody in the chat says it's for the protection of the animal oh interesting well how would how would the long robes protect the animal though uh when it's riding it keeps the sun off their back oh really maybe i'm guessing i don't know let's actually try that i'm listening to chat that never goes well so let's actually try fusing some of these let's actually try fusing this one with like your your american cowboy um yeah let's actually try that
- 00:21:06
that would look like so maybe um if we did some big shapes so maybe we got the the the puffy clothing but then the make a drake sponsored cowboy with parachute pants oh oh drake oh i thought you meant like the singer no i was like no that's how you know you're talking to somebody on the character team and not the ship team yeah yeah you can't call me on my fan [Applause] can i can i can i sing that i can right
- 00:21:55
it just just not i can sing that you can't call me hi lively that can only be one thing uh um oh this is this is actually this actually looks very heroic i actually kind of like this shot all right that's that is not where i was going with it it looks like the spanish inquisition to me what why it look it looks like monk robes it looks like monk robes with a big floppy hat to me you know it's it's the it's the rorschach test you're seeing one thing in a blob and i'm seeing anything
- 00:22:42
for me that that silhouette looks like you know somebody busts in no one expects the spanish inquisition our weapon of surprise surprise and fear fear and surprise are two weapons okay what if i maybe gave it more of that it looks good i'm not complaining i just that what i see in that silhouette is something else that's the whole purpose of you know pink blood tests and stuff we're meant to see different things so i'm kind of okay okay okay so let's let's come back here looking at that one and that one so if we were to fuse those two together uh death snake says bounty hunter lee
- 00:23:44
van cleef style uh you should google cad bane uh death snake 75 cad bane is star wars is lee van cleef inspired bounty hunter and it's amazing you want me to bring up google no no i'm talking to the backer who was suggesting we do a lee vancleef thing i said it's been done and it's been done spectacularly already okay let's uh oh oh you know what a lot of them in the 1900s did smoke like smoking was quite uh i think in the star citizen laura we have these things called like they got these vape pens
- 00:24:32
thing that they inhale that'd be really cool uh and i think their sleeve was a lot bigger and i kind of want to incorporate some more tech because i feel like these guys might be like the the overall look i want to be a cowboy but this is a sci-fi game after all so i do want to incorporate some tech in there uh actually these two i'm kind of kind of digging it um you're approaching uh halfway by the way cool i think this is at a good spot um okay so this one these two like like i said in the beginning like my initial sketches are always kind of meh but then as i look more into reference and start doing some more sketches
- 00:25:19
it becomes a little bit more interesting so i think i'm going to nuke these and oh nope okay let's kind of dive into here what this could potentially be so normally i would drag the opacity down and just start sketching within the uh within like the the silhouette of what this could potentially be um so this guy was like the middle eastern one so maybe lawrence what lawrence of arabia oh it was it's before your time it's not my time
- 00:26:10
wait like when the 60s oh yeah yeah definitely that's one of my favorite movies every time every well before the pandemic anyway every time it showed up on a local la theater whatever i went to see i'd go to see it uh so i very much see lawrence lawrence of arabia here but i'm conditioned to do that okay um i kind of wanna okay this one was like some sort of like pack that he carries with them um and this rope let's go more open
- 00:27:04
chat while you're watching why don't you uh wanna ask a question you guys give me your answers uh we talked we've talked about cad bane we've talked about we've mentioned mal reynolds we've mentioned uh you know cowboy bebop what are some other examples of space cowboys in popular culture i think his arm is actually a little too short yeah there we go lone star um and i want to incorporate some tech on him because i think this is starting to look almost current day or maybe even
- 00:27:54
1900s so cowboys they did do some traveling here and there so i'm assuming that this guy would need some sort of utility to carry stuff with him so i think i'll incorporate a little bit of like some pouches potentially that'll be attached to like that road material and um kind of wanna i'm gonna do something the riggers and character well character artists love doing but the riggers hate is it's like these diagonal these tagged [ __ ] yes that sash we added to the to the ue
- 00:28:42
uniform did not win us any favor with the riggers no they did not like it but that doesn't stop me [Laughter] sorry um i think this is yeah yeah i think if we had maybe the backpack kind of come out a little further out he's resting his arm on it that'd be really cool i kind of want this to be a cybernetic i think that'd be really cool like you you make something like cybernetic and instantly it becomes futuristic so there there are some like i guess like tropes like i guess visual tropes that um i do fall into um sometimes when
- 00:29:33
like i try to come up with some interesting ideas and design shapes but then sometimes like you just you just need to give them a cybernetic arm or leds they become so [ __ ] i know the last cybernetic arm we did in one of these was i think for count disco wasn't it uh chef disco [ __ ] chef just go yeah chef disco here i can't be expected to keep them all straight yeah uh ian leyland did love that concept by the way yeah just saying there's there is plent there is already enough of me outside of the game it's like folks are like yeah i'm here for the starstone experience like they can't get away from
- 00:30:20
outside they can't get away from me outside the game let the game itself be the one refuge where people can get away from me but but i miss you i want to see you in the game every time i play i want to hear your voice every time the game boots up no you can you can leave your mood board up on the second monitor okay um hmm okay for this one do i wanna give him pants or do i wanna go with the whole i mean not nothing that came out wrong uh do i wanna go with the robe look or the the pants look um i i i think if you give him pants you instantly incorporate
- 00:31:07
that kind of that kind of space duster thing and you instantly you instantly get a little bit of western influence added yeah i think so so it's a nice way to you know a merging all the diff these different cultures yeah yeah great great idea should i give him chaps because cowboys have chaps but okay what does chaps do anyway i i never did some research what did chaps do jared you're supposed to be my encyclopedia what do chaps do i'm putting chaps on okay so okay so you see that picture
- 00:32:03
right there of your personal chaps right yeah yeah okay it when you're riding a horse yeah it creates a lot of friction on the inside area there and stuff and you'd wear out your pants very quickly because the pants are not the pants are not owned by made of a right because they're made like jeans or something yep okay um and then as you're going through like
- 00:32:54
the woodland areas it protects it press the inside from rubbing up against the horse and protects the outside from like if you're going through like branches and brush and stuff like that um well if that's the case i don't think that would be useful for our our friend here um because i feel like they hmm because i think we're almost hitting the almost wandering almost traveler type of look right now instead of like riding an actual creature so okay yeah because our space cowboys could be writing you know dragonflies and stuff
- 00:33:42
yeah exactly that's what i was thinking um i kind of want to give him like a little scarf i think might be really cool there's something here there's something here that i think we can use um now let's jump on to the other one uh for this guy let's do see um we use the hungarian one for this one i believe yeah yeah there you are uh with okay wait i need the cowboy hat first where are you so i kinda wanna
- 00:34:37
someone in chat's like i want to do lawrence of damar me too okay let's see the head actually will probably be actually up here and i want to incorporate more of this and i kind of want to give him like i feel like let's just go with that if like if the if the cowboy was wearing if what was going to be riding a dragonfly i think i kind of want to give him like a collar kind of like to protect his maybe his face instead of using a scarf or something or like the they had that scarf thing i think to protect their not
- 00:35:25
those are like thugs but like um from like the elements and stuff like that i think just having like a collar up here something that the riggers also hate um is color colors covering up the face but it's just concept so it's fine it's concept you can make tweaks later hey they're they're in your department you're the one that has to deal with them yeah i can i can already i i can ignore him the cringe i can feel the cringe happening on the tech um i don't think we have the poncho no what would you call it you erased the sarape
- 00:36:12
oh i did erase the syrupy one um um what if we give him okay i kind of want to bring the pawn the is it serape or pancho well a serape is open on the left uh uh on the side so pancho is not so this is a poncho uh you can't it looks like it's closed on the side yeah yeah okay so um what i'm wearing is is is a let's let's let's try this one serape is better from a from a uh a practical standpoint yes can you actually stand up and show me show me the side [ __ ] please see oh okay okay okay
- 00:37:10
i like thank you thank you and i kind of like okay okay and then uh if that's the case then actually i don't think that that would work up here usually and then i can bring back the the the floof the floofs
- 00:38:02
well that would be that would be the shirt under the yeah exactly that's what i'm thinking um and then maybe uh so this one is going to be that and then that that is not how you hold a cigar but you know what it is it is now hey hands are hard they shouldn't be this is like my full-time job hey rob eifeld made a heck of a career never being able to draw hands or feet or feet yeah this is true um okay um what i want to do is
- 00:38:53
i want to do something like interesting with like the collar though um and let's actually oh he also needs a moby glass so i kind of want maybe some sort of like protection for the arm so get a little bit of that floof in there interesting i'm thinking of like a a sarabi with a high collar i don't think i've ever seen that look before it's it's what you get when you try mixing things together i like it it's like mixing the best parts it's
- 00:39:42
it's it's it's like a really grand cape that just has a front i also chose a very hard angle to draw because of course i would do that to myself or we're kind of looking up at him um and let's give him let's give him like a little little satchel here yeah but realistically you know that the you know because of the physicalized inventory and everything and the backpacks and stuff if you do a satchel it's not going to make it into the filing because it's going to be a storage item and yeah something separate so
- 00:40:31
are you telling me i can't have fun jared is that what you're saying i'm just saying yeah you do yours you do yourself a favor if you actually did stuff that could be you know done with the tech you know it's a chance is not here to be your art director so i have to be here telling you to calm down telling you not to invent functionality uh the concepts okay let's actually do you draw faces the way i draw faces just cover them up actually i gave i gave him a like a little mask covering oh i thought it was just a really big
- 00:41:17
mustache no no no no no no no no um also this perspective is off right now it's [ __ ] me yeah that's oh there we go that's what's supposed to look just like don't worry about it physical inventory is a ways off that's for future daily to figure out no unfortunately it's for other teams to figure out it's rather deep one of the things that is that is a constant and never-ending struggle and this is for um all aspects of of game concepting whatever whether your spaceships or whether your characters or locations or anything like that is you run the risk of inventing work for other people and so you so you it's one of the reasons why even in blue sky concept development you have to be aware of your restrictions
- 00:42:05
both technical and creative and stuff and because there's you can design the coolest thing in the world but if it can't be built then what good are you doing it what are you doing for anybody involved so yeah i mean like like the the preliminary sketches though like i i just tell the the concept guys to do whatever they want with with the knowledge of star citizen the back and back of their heads um and then we actually we actually had a meeting this morning where we'll present it to the other departments and talk about not about if we can or cannot do it as is kind of like how can we get it to work and if we can't get it to work um then we will talk about doing revisions right and changing the concept so that we can get it to a place where it can work
- 00:42:53
but a lot of the guys here at cig like they're always down for a challenge right um which is the thing i love uh love about the the team here is they they love cool uh cool concepts right because a lot of them are gamers and they're used to seeing cool art and so they will always try to make it happen but then sometimes just it's just not our game yeah um and we just can't do it uh just because of uh really like good reasons gameplay reasons or just the limitations of fortunately and unfortunately the the modular system that we have for our characters um and using one rig for it so um this is kind of like the we would love to make bespoke assets for everything but unfortunately that makes custom
- 00:43:44
player customization much more difficult and i think a lot of people would um enjoy customizing their characters to their heart's content than just being like you're stuck on wearing this one thing it's one of those things when people when when folks show up with a concept that they saw from 2013 or 2014 or even 15 or whatever and they were like hey where's this one at you know why did they never make this one it's usually because we ended up running a file with some technical limitation or or not being able to separate it into its component parts and stuff like that why do you have that picture on this screen which one this one that's a super flattering
- 00:44:35
picture they're so pretty in that one that was when they did me up in kabuki makeup um okay now i kind of want to talk about not talk i want to add this one still this feels very almost bandit almost to me um and i want to put a little bit more sophistication on this one normally i i would get like a design brief and they'll tell us exactly like what the gameplay implementations would be for this outfit and stuff like that so i think we can kind of for fun um just add stuff on here for now i think um if they're gonna do they're
- 00:45:25
gonna be doing some traveling i think some maybe some lights here that i can that the cowboy can turn on and off might be really cool um let's actually incorporate some white in here just to make some simple faster hmm um i want to bring in oh backpack like a satchel or something i can't forget the movieglass
- 00:46:20
and i think i'm going to have his poncho kind of like or not ceramic kind of like actually be longer in the back just for a better silhouette read so it's kind of a cape kind of which jared loves um you know those flowing layers that are also a pain in the ass to animate but it's what it is what it is it is what it's cool though um i kind of want to drag that down actually okay let's get rid of that
- 00:47:26
oh you have like 10 minutes this is white this is why i love and hate these these live streams because they're so freaking short oh no i kind of want to tie these things here you know what i'm gonna i'm gonna make that a robotic arm because i love cybernetics like they're like jared never allows overtime and it's because they've got to go and do their actual job
- 00:48:13
it's like oh it's like the the job is not to you know make fun videos for people the job is to make the game and the longer you're here doing this game doing this the less time you're there you know making stuff for the actual game so it's like i get it it's not like it's like something i'm being mean or whatever it's that i'd rather you know these folks you know work on the game normally at at this stage i would actually go in and start so my process is pretty much started with silhouette do some line work and then i'll drop the opacity and pretty much just redraw it but then like i would refine it further and start start fixing like the anatomy
- 00:49:02
because this this guy he's he's got pretty big feet so like i would have to do a lot of the anatomy changes and just make it start to make it look presentable and do the actual proper designing of of the outfit so that it makes sense and also that it it meets the requirements so it's kind of like the um the the fun part is always the silhouette part and then coming up with the ideas now it's just kind of like the technical part of the concept thing which is like okay now these now this random line that i've drawn here i have to make it so it makes sense oh hello hello hello
- 00:50:06
okay i know i kind of i kind of want to do this for realsies too uh jerry what would you think like the main perp gameplay purpose of this oh my not knocking that gameplay like give me some lore here for what what this what this cowboy could be doing uh these would be uh frontier settlers on the un un unsettled planets of like the pyro system oh pyro system people that are out there trying to trying to make their trying to make their living where the last bastions of free land in the in uee space can be found or maybe outside of uee spaces
- 00:50:56
in the case of pyro so they're out there doing frontier stuff you know on the like the settlements that we were show that we were showing off yeah yeah in isc you know these these are the people are out there you know scouting the land plays in the settlements you know starting up the various livestock you know we talked about when we talked with to the uh laura and the character team about you know the animals and the and the why certain animals are found on so many different planets because you know they're actually brought from planet to planet to planet to seed those planets so you know these are the these are the people that bring those animals to seed that each new planet or moon so they're they're literally the cowboys of old but in the 30th century pyro is a pretty crappy place to live
- 00:51:44
though but you know what it's not going to stop him they will make it work because i think i think there's like a lot of like i think a lot of ship jackers i think there's a lot of ship checkers there and in the piracism yeah well there's there there's ship jackers sure but there's also the overlord a vigilante group yeah uh which we've introduced you know which is weird to me because everybody was like vigilantes are like bad and i'm like batman's a vigilante spider-man's a vigilante vigilantes are are people who you know you know try to enforce
- 00:52:30
you know the law in their own ways and of course punisher is a vigilante too so it's not my point is that it's not automatically a bad guy or automatically a good guy you know but the uh the overlords in the uh lore are actually well depending on which side of the political divide you're on they're considered good guys or bad guys but they're the guys out there in the unlawful space of the pyro system trying their best to bring a little little order to things in my mind they're good guys all cowboy circuit guys no the overlords are good guys wow all cowboys are not good guys my hand's hurting
- 00:53:24
um this is a question in chat when was the last time either of you played d and d oh man um actually i played dnd three or four weeks ago you're playing a myers game weren't you yeah i'm playing with mario i was playing in an internal game uh with cig staff that was run by leah for a little while oh he has a great dm she's amazing yep um i do miss your games though well my games are multimedia excesses that's why i can't do them very often because they take like everything out of me
- 00:54:13
um now actually i want to hmm i think we can do some more add a little bit more layering of clothing on here and he's actually starting a little strange he ain't got no legs hey got no legs oh [ __ ] oh god man uh
- 00:55:03
yeah okay okay okay you probably can't see it but yeah that feels better that feels way better so that one i'll actually drag down a bit and i have yeah worries yeah i think that feels better
- 00:56:00
oh man so normally for concept at least for the concept guys we would spend i think about two three days on one concept um and i would expect oh my goodness oh my goodness i like the stuff that i'm doing right now where i want to see variants um so a regular concept artist would come up with another idea on top of this um so this could be number one that'd be number two and then a number three um and then they would render it out way farther than i'm taking right now but um so kind of like what i want my concept guys to to do is to present to myself chance and also to chris just a lot of different options i really like
- 00:56:49
the first one this one there there's potential here i think that um we could play with but i'm actually starting to like start painting now see ah this arm is actually a little too i messed it up oh no
- 00:58:02
i'm just shaking my head why why are you shaking your head there we go that's what i wanted um and also he's got a backpack alright he's got a backpack so i wanna i wanna wanna let's put that in the back do i wanna like do something like this hey
- 00:59:08
i don't have any i don't have any time huh no ah darn it not really like i'm starting to get to the good part i feel like it's every live stream i'm like oh this is like i'm i'm getting warmed up now i feel really good sorry you can hear the the beautiful nature sounds of los angeles it's the bad police they're coming for you oh it's the bad police oh man i want to work on this guy though
- 01:00:20
how about this how about this shirt i'll work on it a little bit and we'll put on the thumbnail yeah okay yeah let me let me yeah this is like i think all we can do for the live stream itself all right now you can stop your screen share okay so uh you thank you jay lee for your time here do you know what jazz hands are by chance jess you know what jazz hands are yeah yeah right well uh sorry just a little technical issue there oh my gosh apparently i've never used a computer before it keeps no sorry just something weird with the computer uh thank you so much uh jeremiah for taking your time to be here with us and do the stream with us
- 01:01:07
and you know explore the process of you know space cowboys uh as we have been doing for the last several weeks we are going to throw the raid on to another star citizen streamer who is streaming right now uh we are actually throwing it to uh jr of uh d fabrications uh they are the folks who make those cool uh star citizen models this is a live feed of some of my star citizen models right now they are streaming at the moment and i think i'm not entirely certain that they're going to showcase uh one or two of the new builds that they're there they got coming their way uh don't hold me to that though that might be outdated information so uh so yeah so we're gonna raid jrd fabrications um so when you get there uh tell them jaylee says uh jazz hands jazz hands jazz hands and we'll see you
- 01:01:57
next week everybody take care
