I mean how many times in this day and age you're gonna make a funny for sure reference in casual conversations with internet defining me with me it's because you're the man now dog or the bad out old man out dog hi everybody welcome to another episode of reverse the verse live this time featured on featuring the rest stop futures with our member with two members of our Laura team immediately to my right we've got narrative director mr. Dave haddock hello and Amelie to my left we've got lead writer mr. will Weiss mom hi I'm great too thanks for having us off sure yeah well we want to do something a little bit different today I'm gonna
- 00:00:49
leave you two are just gonna well actually in many ways I expect to kind of sit back that's a sound it's not ok let's see what's happening with the sound we're gonna keep talking make sure the sounds okay life from where anything important yes yes right I told you so so one of the things we're gonna try to do today is is every once in a while we like to do an RVT that's more about process that's more about the way that in which we do things we refer to them as game dev editions in the past we've had Jeremiah create concept characters we've had a German we once we had a producers on creating a road map scheduled life and people are like you're gonna have producers come on and make a schedule and I'm like yeah and like nobody else would do that I'm like I know and it was compelling television for the most part but no I was really
- 00:01:38
happy we did it today we're gonna try something like that again where you guys you guys have an assignment for four three six you have many assignments one of the things that you're working on for the upcoming three six and of course three five I just went live to everybody yesterday and I see the folks in chat talking about some server issues and whatever believe me everybody is aware and we've got top people on it don't know how tied into the three six release this content is it is something we're working on during three yes order one of the things that we're working on and you'll see a little bit about it later on in a TV is a an explosion and expansion of our modular rest-stop systems obviously we've got
- 00:02:28
the I don't actually I don't know how many are active active in three five now there's a bunch there's all the Lagrange points right not all of them but most of them have rest stops going where you can go and hang on at the RN ARS and buy stuff salsa hmm but uh we were planning to not only expand to even more but change their design and evolve their design make more modular elements make them more visibly visually unique so like that I know he'll ditch is doing some great R&D right now with with new shapes and and a new shape language for these things so that they look more like space space stations yeah whatever space stations look like yeah I got thrown up there yeah the art team of tech team have been doing some amazing things with
- 00:03:15
the procedural generations of these space stations so while they're doing this they often they have a request for you what is that request from you guys yes we were meeting with them last week and basically the idea was that right now as will said we have the our and our rest and relax tops which are sort of our middle-of-the-road franchised type deal and talking with Ian and Eddie and the design team and stuff they were basically like you know we're looking for a couple more variations as far as like companies brands type thing just to kind of add some variety and some flavors new some of the different ones that they're coming up with so so yeah yeah basically we have to kind of brainstorm and we were kind
- 00:04:03
of talking with them about what kind of parameters they had for us and stuff like that which is usually part of the thing is usually but you know in one of these discussions they'll say hey we need to sing and then we go alright cool we can you know try and work up some ideas but are there any things that you can kind of rule out immediately that would you know help but guide us to make sure that the stuff that we're generating like fulfills your guy his needs as well as what makes sense for the universe and stuff like that so so yeah so basically as we said the the RNR is currently are kind of the middle of the road type type company so you know could we come up with sort of a higher-end luxury version company or a station type and more of a lower-end one so and that and that's usually the kind of approach we take is the high middle
- 00:04:53
low it gives us a good breast at least for a first passive stuff rather than coming up with like 50 different variants we say what's what's a high-end fancy version of something what's the low end you know messed up version what's the middle of the road and that gets us a good breadth to start with and then there's always room later on down the line to start filling in more of that flavor to add more companies but at least it's a great place to go so right off the bat are these truck stops or rest stops at the we are our own development team tends to use the determiner interchangeably like yeah we're trying to do a rebranding internally to make sure to get people stopped using truck stuff because truck base truck space truckers but it's not quite the term that's honed in on in
- 00:05:41
general it's more of kind of these rest stops especially for how people are using it in the breath of people who go visit these locations in the universe it isn't just for these long-haul space truckers per se everyone needs to stop at these things out there it's how the fuel it's how you you know if you in a single sear it's how you go to the bathroom it's it's hard because doing weekly shows convey you know covering development conveying the things that we're working on in ways that people understand you you look for as many attachments to the modern day as you can I think that's where truck stop yeah truck stops I mean a lot of the references that we were using initially when talking about him was actually it was Iowa 80 which is a very big I think it's actually might be one of the
- 00:06:29
largest if not the largest like truck stops and I think it's actually Iowa Highway but and and on the sort of New Jersey Turnpike on 95 on the east like there's kind of standardized rest stops that you come across where it's like you know they have the KFC McDonald's and stuff like that just to give you kind of two varieties that you can that we drew from so like those were the more kind of standardized because they always kind of look the same they just have different kind of amenities right and then there's one company out there selling designs for truck stop surrounding yeah populating them with you know whatever restaurants and stuff like that so yeah there was sort of the original kind of kick off I think but yeah hence why it was very common to
- 00:07:15
just have to internally be known as truck stops and then we're like so one of the ways that you guys work is through a shared documentation like Google like like Google Docs for instance I can already see if JD if we can bring that up on the screen for just a minute I can already see that you've got a Google Doc started here oh yeah yeah what are we there's Michael key then we have Michael Caine in the last time we did yeah we always start any kind of right yeah I think we do by finding which Michael Keaton are we using as a touchstone for this and this case it's Michael Keaton from spider-man homecoming like I didn't I didn't remember and so I just saw that I'm like I'm like literally it's like the last time we did this was there's like two three years ago like that we had a lot of Michael Keaton for those two yeah it was a steady stream I mean it was a it
- 00:08:03
was a dense topic so it we were we spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was the Michael Keaton inspiration so that was sort of the thing it's like are we going clean and sober are we going mr. mom like that's a tough choice because I love mr. mom like clean and sober got him an Academy Award nomination yes I mean nowhere you can go with later stuff like out of sight which I don't know so like if the vultures are an hour or an hour rest stop we have to figure out you know who is our Jack Frost Caressa and well that's the low end the Jack possibly the low end so so we we have our initial notes that we kind of took down from meeting with the our team and kind of bullet points that keep in mind of when we're going forward you know so like we said aren't ours the middle of the road we have to figure out kind of what is our higher and lower end experiences and then one of the
- 00:08:51
limitations like Dave was talking about is at the base building blocks for the person generation are going to be relatively similar so they told us to think more about will be like a rebranding color and stuff but the base architecture of the Space Station's machine expect to wildly deviate at least for now for us to be able to build quickly in the next few quarters there are going to keep us in check so we couldn't per se come up with oh this rest stop is all glass and you're in a big glass ball and you look and you see everything which might be totally awesome but for now that's a limitation that we're imposing on ourselves as we think of ease so yeah so tell you how do you how do you start this process and that's what we were doing well yeah I mean normally what we do is also is we basically just sit
- 00:09:40
quietly and listen to Spotify work so which is what we're gonna do for the next hour all right cool but yeah I mean usually again I'm like we going off of the kind of the parameters the boundaries that that we've been established to sort of talk high-level what's the sort of initial flavor and and you know we got some of the questions down here what's the sort of experiential difference gonna be between these why would someone choose to go to one brand over another you know do our existing brands work for these which is actually kind of an interesting thing too because you know we have a lot of companies as it is and it's sort of it's easy to kind of go like oh we'll come up with something new and but at the same time like that's not necessarily the best way to go because it's like as opposed to have I mean we have hundreds
- 00:10:27
if not a thousand companies in creation at the moment so like why the carburation matrix was it's impressive when I started here or four years ago yeah they've only grown it's so so it's kind of like when we first started talking about this experience space the big focus can you keep that a few years ago it was all about the fuel stations about how were ships going to refuel in space and so some of you might remember no portfolio where we wrote up all these companies we had CTR we had fuel problem cry Astro and crash our we've had in games for a while where you would go there you would land and be able to refuel and repair but then along the way it started talking about well we want people to get on their ships more we want them to have more of experience have this collection of these
- 00:11:15
shops and that's when we started developing our in our we came up with all this branding for what these restaurants but now we're wondering all right if independent just solo kind of fuel stations aren't really as much as what design wants anymore or is that a good opportunity for us to kind of shift what those fuel stations were into what these rest stops might become so we could take a look at say like you know CTR was an interesting company because it was one of the first kind of Chillon associated companies and I was kind of thinking like maybe that would be real interesting to to put forth as kind of our high-end experience is that they got this slight alien vibe going with them they're appealing to humans on a
- 00:12:03
different kind of connection way and maybe that's what they're doing you know we already had cry Astro how does cry Astro who fit into this is Rd a good candidate for anything they were kind of proponents but yeah sort of with them one of the things I was kind of appealing about what possibly running with them as a potential company was that idea of you know you gas stations now start to have more and more amenities you know particularly if you're if you're you know doing kind of highway travel and stuff like that where they'll have a little deli sometimes a full restaurant you know that that type of thing so it was like did it it's off the cuff it seemed to make sense that cry Astro could be a potential candidate to throw out there because because again it's still this is these are amenities
- 00:12:52
for travelers traveling through space so you know and they want to get you with their gas so they give you a place to stretch your legs or go to the bathroom or take shower stuff like that from a pleasure perspective there's also I think a level of emotional attachment to cry Astro because you know ever since 2.0 2.0 launched in the end of 2015 we crashed I was one of the first space stations we ever saw besides portal oh sorry so it's it's as the as starts and continues to develop setting work we just has more Makkah meetings sources and continues to develop and more corporations come in and they go you one of those you always remember your first kind of things I think there's yes well there's a lot you can do a lot of crime with there were some protests on crime we're crazy
- 00:13:40
well we also have like if I'm wrong we have the CTR logos like in game all over the place like it's that circle blue and white and red logo but we don't have it actually representative as a company that you can go do anything with someone we made a lot of logos early on for these companies that we thought we were gonna have and then artists and UI people grab them to use as props and so now we have the ctrl o going game so it's always nice for me to think like oh hey can we actually have this mean something and bring it in that way well there's something I mean actually you know and again I mean you know this is sort of the the process is the interesting thing actually about that is whether CTR might be an interesting candidate for the higher end one because of their Xian influence there's I mean
- 00:14:29
again like the structure of it won't look very different so maybe it's not the best served oh maybe it's like misc you know miss doesn't look don't look like she on shifts but there's some Xian influence in their design yeah so maybe a CTR station would have similar influences yeah yeah would you lay in verticality holes and Furtick ality that could be yeah I don't know if we can do kind of weirdo artificial gravity stuff not in the station itself but like as sort of you know I right off the bat there were there were when we first started talking about the subject that chat was going off with like like bad news stations they want the alien stations yeah so maybe in the hardest and insist and maybe not but you could sneak in some Shia influence through something like CTR well the thing
- 00:15:17
actually I mean it's a it's an interesting point is I mean one of the things that we've talked about with the band knew particularly and this was when we were kind of in the early days doing the a lot of the starmap stuff was this idea of the Banyan flotillas so you know I think we might have even talked about it and I think the last time we were here where we've sort of inspired by the the the raft in snow crash the end of snow crash works all the boats lashed together and it's everywhere uh to say uh but no but just this idea of like twenty years but but the idea of like the they would that the band knew would
- 00:16:07
have this sort of like space station marketplaces in space where people would congregate to trade and stuff like that and and you know be interesting again once we kind of start you know visually diving more into the band new to figure out like you know are there design elements or visual cues that we can incorporate from their designs to kind of insinuate that like you know humanities sort of being absorbed that influence into their their you know into how they build stations and stuff like that because we do have that sort of symbiosis between the cultures where it's like everyone's kind of like feeding off of each other and no and and taking technology and and design stuff from each other so it's is that an area that we could explore for first stations
- 00:16:56
yeah I mean I mean humanities had contact with the Shia and the venue for quite a long time by the time by the time we catch up the star citizen universe and yeah so there's got to be all kinds of ways you know that that they've influenced even just human culture and human society I mean you already see you know the the people walking around the Chinese or Japanese writing and tattoos and stuff like they've never been to Japan is like that and so who have hopefully gotten a good translation yeah I mean so maybe something to think about before we go through like a signing out the actual owner of the station it's kind of that experience thing of like what what makes a low-end station low-end anyway and it's kind of easy to be like oh well it's it's crappier like it's dirty and it's like that but that doesn't actually
- 00:17:44
like no one builds like their station to be like dirty like like it's not like is it that like do we say that maybe the low-end stations you like food experience wise maybe you would get like a lot of the chain restaurants at an R&R like you would hit the big Benny's but because like these low end stations I'm assuming that they would be placed either like far out away from a trade lanes which is why they're kind of they're doing less business they can't afford to be as nice they're a little smaller because they're not servicing as many people there maybe they're in frontier systems and so maybe like we separate out like what kind of shopping experience you would see there so like maybe we'd be like vending machines or one kind of cafeteria restaurant and not a brand name rest
- 00:18:33
femme ship forever stays I imagine the ones modeled after the new jersey to turn the peg Turnpike will be lowing I said let's get some suggestions in chat talk to us about what you think a low-end rest that would be it could just be sort of you know what kind of amenities you get or available to you like higher end once might have spas or showers or you know my kind of users but showers as a high-end I was just say it like yeah actually being able to shower the rest stop that's me it's pretty pin black dragon to that says everyone's gonna have a copy shop even though even alone it's gotta have at least a coffee shop well that would be like maybe a coffee vending machine versus having like a boost Emporium that's selling all your energy drinks and like or in Elroy's or something yeah like they think that the
- 00:19:23
machine in a tourney or two that does the playing cards on the side and then the fifth card is on the bottom it's just the yeah and they're to 1,000 stab you remember avoid that last point yeah I mean you know and again like what are the because it also might be I mean even to like there might be the types of NPCs that we populate the area with you know whether there's there's a little bit more like would you go to a low-end one where there's more possibility of like you know picking up shadier jobs Taikan dara says low in wins would be you would have fewer personnel more automation you know just like the vending machine more yeah well you know more more kiosks that do things instead
- 00:20:10
of people because they can't because they can't afford to hire yes rotate out staff well and it might even be that thing to where it's like the if there's there's counters it's store counters and stuff like that that there's Plexiglas between you and the person rather than and I mean this this is all kind of purely visual stuff that the art team would help yeah work out but like those types of things immediately kind of seem like it's more fortified rather than you know that sort of they they're protecting against people flinging a bottle for me I think I think low-end like you made a good point earlier Risa it's not necessarily rundown it's not necessarily beat up it has to do with alright good idea well for me it's it's not just run down and beat up it's it's more about investment you know different companies will invest different amounts
- 00:20:59
in in things like in all kinds of venues ventures including rest stops like you could see something you see something like like a higher company like okay we want to build the greatest rest stop in the world you know we're really trying to innovate you just need some of these rest stops in the world that look like Apple stores you know in some ways and then you see the you know the smaller companies you know lower end can be a smaller more independent company that's just trying to get into the rest stop game well said about being running down it's just they don't have enough the money for a lot of the amenities and a lot of people I mean or conversely it could be a really major company that's just like we're just gonna spend as little money as possible to turn as much of a profit as possible so it's like you know they again like it yes exactly it's that thing where it's not necessarily this is a dingy dirty run you know broken apart thing it's just it's cheap and not you
- 00:21:51
know not built with care because they're trying to okay I keep going back to like fuel pump is one of the existing fuel stations we have and like their whole thing was kind of like retro tinge attitude already like if they almost had like would you say like a 50 years kind of like but like the Metro futuristic yeah version of it which might be kind of interesting too like I don't know if it's too much of a double down to have like a retro theming on top of like kind of a rundown station whether that just makes it feel old or whether that ties into better like hit that feeling that you want when you go in well the thing I keep wondering though when we talk about doing that the retro thing like from our perspective it's you know it's the equivalent of
- 00:22:40
like yeah nineteen fifty steamed gas station but like there's something I kind of always grapple with whether it's fun or just kind of to mind melty of like a retro thing in this is what the 24th century was like exact people we come up with the 20s this is a 27th century a classic 27th century gas station and everyone goes oh god yeah I remember the days you know and but it's something that's very weird still very weird and foreign to us but - we set it up in the universe is like - damn that's kitschy like we come up with our level of and that's and that's a little bit hard for us in occur in art direction - because a lot of times we do yeah retro outdated tech is a sign of like older
- 00:23:29
anyway so like to have retro tech makes the station feel older to begin with like if you look at some of our like lower end locations we have those kind of more CTR monitors which is a fun kind of bring back that retro sci-fi feel from the art direction of it so that's a tough pickle yeah so weird so maybe that's not a good option for us maybe because it gets too muddled between what is theming and what is actual yeah and I think it's also the thing - of what you had said about there's there's kind of a lot of art debt that would need to be done in order to sell it correctly which is all unique stuff I mean it's interesting like one of the get asked about in in the ask of Devas it's like you know oh wouldn't it be awesome to get like the antique ships like we've always talked about this or
- 00:24:16
think of like you know what are the ships from the 25th century oh yeah I want the old beat-up jalopy personally yeah I want the zoo some one all you know and it's and it's like that would be totally sweet but for our purposes all of them are new ships whether it's a 25th century ship or it's a 30th century ship they're all well you know new things that require a whole bevy of tasks and you know design and animation art so it's it's it's still tough to do we can come up with it it's easy enough to just come up with it and drop it in a lore post but like the the realization of it becomes a different matter so like coming up with the kitschy you know Bennigan's like art crap on the wall that throw is a throwback to a different era means of
- 00:25:04
thousand new props that we don't necessarily have the bandwidth for Corbin Jones of the chat says I want to see a big Betty's restaurant hold on to your butt's but uh they're something that's that's popping to my head is like maybe the high-end experience is that rather than there are in our which has all these kind of like brands that come and open up shops inside of it so you get like the live fire or whatever opening up inside they are and are maybe the high-end one is all proprietary branding like when you go to like a really high-end department store like Target we'll put a McDonald's or a Pizza Hut inside their shop but a high-end department store has their own cafe and restaurant that's their own branding so
- 00:25:53
whereas you get all this like weapon and clothing experience let's say for argument it was CTR when you go inside there's no other brands you have all this stop and they just say like clothing in a fancy like scrolling font and it's there is then you own the experience so it's almost like a dirty free thing at an airport where yeah yeah it's just it's a bunch of the products and by other people that you know but it's not a center mass store it's just it's a there section for ship weapons some of the high-end falls shopping malls in Southern California Fashion Island and down the south coast and even the the Century City one up here they're both open air they're both the open air they don't they don't have space blast dumps right at the glass domes even the even the
- 00:26:40
even the fancy some of the fancy hotels in Vegas like the Venetian and the parents have those sections where they fake an outdoor thing in the ceiling yes I mean that's a good point that may be something that high-end stations would have is a lot more non-critical areas like we've talked about in the procedural generation the idea of like viewing windows and so maybe we talked to are saying that the high-end stations have a lot more more viewing windows a lot more stuff that is just kind of seating areas around whereas yeah the low end it's all like every single inch of that should be dedicated to profit generation or money or something like that yeah yeah that's it see what you've got here there you see I'd even have to
- 00:27:30
ask Thank You JJ so what kind of shops are you expecting so Loen so wills been making notes here yeah we're working here this is just for fun for a fact it's definitely not for fun what kind of shops had you expected less branding restaurants maybe I'll focus on bidding machines all right abated services so we're saying more more name branded shops in the low end what separates the R&R like shopping experience from the low end shopping experience is it just the variety that you'd get in like an R&R easy is it that like you're more likely to find like it that low ends are just like a convenient shop in a weapons
- 00:28:19
store is it like that all for one shopper it feels like one of those things where yeah it would be like there would be fewer again sort of what you're saying like they would space is at a premium so they would jam as much in as possible - they would jam enough in to lure people inside to try and get them to buy stuff but not so much that they had to maintain a high on that overage in order to keep their station open so it's like you know like one of these I was agency they it's mostly fewer live people we were talking about earlier so mostly terminal in Iraq we're not dealing with you know even if it's like a big Bennie's where it's like you know it's it's kind of what we had so you see if we can even maybe even use that setup from like the mess hall like the you push into anything and then a
- 00:29:07
you know it coops out here your big it's not the absolute wrong word to use for a food service I have but no I mean but that type of thing where it's like you you you know I mean I was actually an interesting thing in the the Seoul Airport there's like the restaurants you just you're through a terminal you know which was really interesting and we got we got that at McDonald's now you go into McDonald you go to McDonald's just three blocks that way and there's terminals and they have you order on the terminals now it gives you a little number then you go up thee yeah yeah they're reducing the amount of time you have to interact with human beings I love it so we talked about CTR as a potential brand for the high end is it do we have
- 00:29:55
another consideration beside CTR another it would probably be for scratch at that point if we didn't do it I think your existing stuff cry Astra doesn't quite feel yeah it would be a Pettit er with our and our oddly enough which is unfortunate for cry Astro because right now we don't need a competitor for R&R but down the road we don't want R&R to be the only game in the thing I mean yeah it feels like it would be sort of like I'm a kind of you brought the centuries everything like Westfield you know yeah it feels like we need a Westlaw I like a corporation that just specializes in creating and creating rest stops and plopping them around yeah and around the world because it might even be something to it's again like you know we have some of these are gonna be offering we're obviously with
- 00:30:43
fuel repair options and rearm and stuff like that where it's like they could be saying like it's CTR is the fuel provider for the station it's a way to say like hey it's very expensive then you got things like Costco Costco does their own you know you know cosmos started as a warehouse store and then they got into gas and they got into automotive service right they expand it into their own Bran's for all these things yeah it's a good climb they didn't company it maybe they did contract out for people but they're like no we're not using your branding using our branding I don't know Costco they're gas you definitely like interesting to provide more of these kind of non-essential services at the high end thing so that's not only like clothing stores you're less likely to find at the low end but at the high end along the hair salons but maybe the
- 00:31:30
difference is it like a high-end facility will have a full kind of medical treatment center like so if you needed to get patched up it would make sense for a high-end one to be able to support like actual the in-depth have the big machines like I find on the ship the hospital ships and stuff like that where lines of surgeries well yeah the plastic surgery stuff where is the low-end ones maybe that's where you go and you get you're lucky to get a couple Med pens don't like a bigger med kit over there be a vending machine jam yourself and hope that your can stay live long enough to go to a nicer place like the idea with the low end is you're just stopping here briefly before moving on wondering if maybe the idea is with the low end stuff that it's it's more convenience store and like like the the
- 00:32:18
high-end ones are okay but just it's they sell multiple things the stores tend to send sell multiple things rather than just being dedicated franchising that in the east Frenchie's quan chi's something in the original red it's it oh and filling I hate it in southern Pennsylvania and in Maryland when I was there this year foodies what's what's it called people it's in it's in the it's in the East it was in Maryland it was in DC it was in Pennsylvania and they had their these automated food kiosks it's close to a while but it's not wah wa-wa-wah was a good example I went to these kiosks and I was able to order sheets that's it thank you sir Wiley sheets you ever been to a sheets you got these kiosks it's a
- 00:33:07
whole thing it's just like literally what you just described for the low end it was sheets and and they and their kiosks we were able to make these food monstrosity I was able to get like hamburger with mozzarella sticks and the man french fries inside the hamburgers and you just make these terrible food monstrosity you don't to look anybody in the eye but you're doing it you just order it and then something then you just kind of wait and they call a number they don't they don't take your name and some number so there's no personally identifiable aspects to to get shamed for this terrible food constructed construction that you for yeah sheets well you like if this is like a low-end brand and we and we've also talked about outside of the brand like the brand and that we're gonna come at first we're also gonna the ideas that we would also
- 00:33:54
be able to do mom-and-pop stations down the road as well that that this is Jared's rest stop that isn't tied into this bigger company as a part of the conglomerate just has weird stuff and it's a little random station and that's authoritarian or a chef disco then where does he that's where he cooks so yeah but this will be more of that kind of branded experience I mean it's interesting to me if we gave them like an official tie in with Kell tow which is our big convenience we have another convenience store you have to troll but like the always like you go you go to this landing place it's like the hut using American reference we just make very we'll make the low end kal-toh oh my next question was we've got a CT see
- 00:34:43
a company for the high end we haven't had any suggestions for the low ends well first landing is the one that's called out we've talked about more planetary but they recall that as a low end specifically refueling service option CTR carry but I mean I just wonder it's like if it if it just becomes if it just becomes kalto a we start to establish because we haven't established them we talked about a minute we've been talking about ever since and we do like the idea of a convenience store we're trying to introduce in some of our planetary locations as well well I may give a plug for the kid crimson a story line it's one of the one of the earliest Laura stories that was released on Roberts bass industries comm website he goes
- 00:35:29
back to like 2012 early 2013 if you haven't checked it out should because it's one of the things that got me into this project so check out the kid games also you know I don't have to sell it I'll sell it and that's what I'm here for I'm the shill I'm the show so like in kalto like almost Walmart has their kind of gas station outside their own brand there would be kind of that idea that tell to-- expanded out into these floating maybe they even got their start from offering space based convenience stores and it just became a natural thing or owning or they bought a couple after they opened up shops and I'm right and decided to manage them themselves and fully branded out would it be weird then if it's a it's tell toe to have any other with the only store be in Kel toes
- 00:36:20
be the Celt Oh convenient shop and then we'd have food vending machines and reviewing options I mean we had said that they were they they kind of cover everything they do it'd be a little bit of everything so you would only expect to be able to find like four guns and the three were like maybe they just they do rearming like just ammo like yeah I would definitely feel like that gas station kind of vibe where maybe you could pick up headphones but they're like weird ones it's definitely interesting I got I got a I got a I got a thing sent to me in January when I was on vacation and nobody thought to give
- 00:37:09
it to me until today so I literally just got it's been sitting in the storage since January since I was gone someone just gave it to me today so I was just opening it right now look what is it we've been totally derailed let's just run a bit high well no I has nothing to do with the show I just wanted it no it looks it looks like the Jer fabrication sent me one of their great cats oh man that is pretty yeah that way the models that they're doing like I saw everybody else on Twitter get one and it was a little bummed that I didn't get one and then like I wasn't even sailing the planer said said there's like you know I was actually sad but I wasn't insane because I mean the but they didn't send me and then and then today into the today because we got a new person that French is I found this under a desk with your name on it oh you know like yeah apparently I was settling about wow what something back
- 00:37:59
in January it's all to do it'll yeah I didn't set this up we don't have a we don't have a camera shot to do it but you keep talking i am i walking for the camera see if i can just ignore what Jared's doing and keep talking about what we're talking about it yeah so it would just be kind of like confirming we'll have to go back with design after this and see exactly it's kind of hone in what services need to be offered in you know rest off bare minimum like does every rest stop need like TDD functionality we all need to buy stuff or are we saying like maybe these low-end ones don't don't do that or can stuff like the TDD exist harmoniously with Celt oh well and also just keep talking yeah this is great Jared they can hear what you're saying i touch
- 00:38:50
my mic sorry everyone I apologize you should have said something earlier JJ kal-toh kalto I think you need to pull the trigger because you have been talking about this for six years ago yeah oh I remember but also from I mean I guess the other question is always from a gameplay perspective yeah whether these are suppose have need to have pickup drop-off ones so like do they need to have a Koval X but the Comal xbox would make sense inside if it has a delivery Locker yeah if it in with the convenience store the vending machine kind of vibe yeah but follow-up note with design we actually had a meeting
- 00:39:40
scheduled with design to talk more about this stuff that got pushed a few days not a time for our TV so we tried to have more of these answers answered but this is the development process we come up with questions more questions mm-hmm nikhyl toes que el tio tio but they're Hydra Fras well yeah we're that short for something Delta I don't remember no I think it just sounded okay okay but yeah like they should be able to support they maybe they just wouldn't do commodity exchanges which wouldn't be maybe an issue in some of the more out there places that may be which would make sense it's kind of not a high-traffic area like who them you might have to put
- 00:40:28
on extra work to lug your stuff to a more populated area to unload your commodities like you've just been mining there but conversely I don't even know if like because you can't do commodity trading at the park I can sell stuff at R&R you can sell them drugs now nrnr we have to follow up and just be right but they like R&R doesn't have T DS right now and I don't think they're gonna get it yeah so we option just find out if the economy is oh ya know about the owners talk to people chats been asking about things like addresses and javelins and stuff in step talking at some of these would the you know obviously those are civilian convert a commission versions of those ships but where would military
- 00:41:18
ships is there are there are there military rest stops are there like like Air Force bases I guess yeah yeah there are military that isn't even the security operations for the system or something will be a naval base yeah we've talked about a mostly in in connection with fair chance systems so you'll see if you go on our map like Oh be stationed chimera and stuff like that but but yeah I would assume that there would just be like naval I think Seoul had some naval bases called out already yeah they're probably I mean yeah I don't know if they would be sort of a more automated whether they would have like auto you know automated kind of just fuel dumps that you but this would tie into like kind of the reputation system stuff that we've been
- 00:42:05
talking about now where eventually you would do enough missions to earn a reputation as like a Navy contract to be able to dock and refuel at these places I wouldn't expect just because you own an address that they would be like yeah park up exactly yeah it makes me think of a good question about the stanton system itself the standard system itself is kind of unique amongst most of the star systems in star system because these planets are individually owned by corporations does the system as a star system with four supergiant's that are all owned by individual corporations and I'll run their own individual security is the stanton system still police by the U EE I mean yes it's still considered it's all used system and so yeah they they they they're kind of militarily responsible
- 00:42:55
for the space in between the planetary zones which is pretty normal normally like advocacy is handling the interplanetary crimes that happen in this system so the same is here but they're really trying to limit how many how much resources they make available to the system they're telling the companies you should be handling this that was the whole point in telling these so minimal you EE presence in that in this gen system yeah that's sort of some of the planetary government's want there to be more and some of them want there to be less oversight and so it's kind of an ongoing debate between these four governing bodies and some of our recent kind of we just had a yeah Congress now that was doing like a Senate talk to kind of the head of
- 00:43:46
crusader talking about their crime stats and how they're doing governing and so yeah Congress now another lower series available in the Marvin space industry comm website that you should probably be checking out she's weirdly popular just let all your mother yeah make sure to read last week's star watch for all the latest info on celebrities in star citizen it's such a such a positive feature I know people keep keep clamoring for more so Soquel toe is kind of a top contender which would be interesting if we went with like so they would be this heavily branded mono store and in some way like we could do it with a high end was almost the same thing if we went with that they didn't have their own like franchises inside themselves that they just everything was then branded as well but it would just be the breadth of options kind of our yeah I mean we
- 00:44:37
should check there that might be a good thing is talking point to go over whether they want to do that sort of even a lateral thing because I could also see it going the other way where it said you know because work you know star fields we are allowing you know we have partnered with you know these luxury brands to validate us so it becomes that thing where it's like because it's kind of currency it's like coming to our mall because we have an Apple store and everyone goes oh they have an Apple store this place is really Swank with that oh but that might be the difference I'm wondering if they would have like their weapon section would have like a max ox display where they would have a bunch of Max ox weapons versus having like a live fire that was doing that right inside would be more about the
- 00:45:25
actual item branding that we sell bearing in Mac Sox versus we have a live fire in my fire sells whatever they sell in some of the higher-end airports there that they kind of like what you've been talking about where everything has its own branding they're not brand that all the shops have brands that you don't necessarily see outside in the real world but then right under it it's like it's like airwaves by shake-and-bake or something like that and then it's tiny it is that they invite these other companies in but then they're not allowed to trade on their their brand over yeah on the outside so it's it's a whole different presentation it's the way like a I've seen McDonald's or KFC s or whatever in airports that don't look like any McDonald's or KFC you see anywhere else right there they're individual installations of those things
- 00:46:12
and it's like yeah operated by McDonald's its rights Burger town I mean that would be something that we could do where we could talk too hard about this that would really maybe help set it apart is we limit how much of the aggressive advertising that we do inside this rest stop like all the other restaurants you see billboards and posters and logos and the ensigns everywhere that maybe when we use the wall break of art spaces it actually is for art like you walk through and you see a potted plant with a nice like abstract painting and not like an ad for like the latest origin 300i or if we do have it we minimize it yes I mean it it opens I mean again it opens up interesting so it's kind of what you were saying before about like they they offer more relaxation luxury things and so would you have whether it
- 00:47:03
be an art gallery or a view like a viewing room or it's got a bunch of like a you know the latest vo imperialist abstract art or glass sculptures or whatever which probably would be ill-advised because people would just drive buggies into them I missed the name I miss the me unfortunately but it's a task on my two thousand said what about the companies that we know for player hangers are a rebel in New York in Harrow view yeah if they're in the business of player him yours that's a good point at least the hanger sections or whatever like maybe the Revell in New York would open up these rest stop remember not an entire breast up maybe maybe they work to do the hangar portion of these rest stops i I think with my concern about
- 00:47:52
that would just be that then we're getting into a lot of kind of cross branding like the the Westfield's equivalent with reveling you're like it I mean again this I could that's kind of what I think you're saying well the concern is just that once you have too many different brands in there that the overarching umbrella station gets kind of lost in the mix because you don't care about that as much because it doesn't have its own personality the personality is being dictated by the stores that are in it but I mean having revel in New York do the stations is an interesting coal at the British I think they have to be a contender for a high-end one mm-hmm Minh hindsight it
- 00:48:42
seems kind of obvious we already had our player hangers broken into three tiers yeah yeah what self land is the lower in an air of you is the middle I think part of it would just be making sure and this would be part of the conversation with or would be making sure that because revelon York do have an established aesthetic and would be making sure that whatever they're building for this would factor into it well they haven't is that they built what we've seen their established aesthetic for one kind of player in here it's it's true but it's it's if it's just that thing of like because they do that it sort of almost plastic why with the brown wood and stuff like that which is a very distinct look so it's be sort
- 00:49:32
of a question of like whether that is a through could bane to be maintained as a through-line or if we could just it's just a good thing of different different key that's a Michael Keaton s Dogberry ah from much ado that's right that was to me the Michael Keaton hand that's represented revel in New York but maybe I'm wrong about that oh yeah definitely wrong about that that might be the self land Michael key but yeah just say just a question of like if because yeah again it's it's interesting it kind of going back to what we're talking about in the very beginning of this that idea of like tying it into stuff that the community already knows about and it's attachment to an emotional reaction to because if we drop like hey it's like revelon york
- 00:50:20
station you know people who are playing immediately get like oh cool it's gonna be a much nicer higher anything like we a lot of our work is kind of done you know i mean yeah this was one of the conversations we've had with our when we started doing these kind of stations is like oh who's building the station like outside and rest are in are owning the station they're like what company manufacturers like what construction company would be hire to come out and haul this out and was starting to get like a weird level of branding that we didn't quite people didn't need to know who constructed the station or like it's just our nard and like though that's where we cut off the thing one of those things and this is probably way too early for this one of those things that you would find in a living breathing universal history is the thing where the station was made
- 00:51:08
by one company and then they got out of the space station business and that sector and they sold it to another company and yeah and so you've got somebody else's name now on something that's completely against their style because they bought it to operate yeah yeah I mean we have talked about that sort of thing because one of the things that we always talk about with as sort of like the chronology of when a new system is discovered is that you know so they they discovered somebody discovers a jump point they sell the data to the UE the UE Easton's and sort of the initial kind of prospecting scouting team they build a space station just inside the jump point that sort of like their main base of operations and while they go out and they sort of survey the system and figure out what's there and stuff like that and then they have terraforming you know if they have
- 00:51:56
terraforming candidates then they go and they build a station outside of that to house the the terraformers as well maybe a PFG industrial station that type of the first one and then the question is like well what happens to those that initial space station that was there because that's their first point of civilization in the system so does that convert it into something else integrate almost no that was a workers residence I mean the same thing it starts to start was one thing and then became another thing yeah or maybe it stays it's a similar thing it's just it's a it's a way station for people to who are making their way in or out of the system stuff like that so there's yeah we've kind of tried to figure out like how can we kind of insinuate or that history for some of these places that there's like like oh this this
- 00:52:45
space station or rest stop was the original terraforming station in the system and you know how do we yes it's got branding and it's got stores now and and stuff like that but how do we insinuate that there was this history to which for everybody who spent the last 55 minutes asking if players are going to get to hone their own Space Station stuff like that I want to say that's a game design question and not something that's decided by members of the lower team here just try go ahead and make some promises no and drops because you're not the so I get I do wonder what other kind of like we've talked a lot about kind of the flavor differences like we'll have to see what a design what kind of game design differences we can offer like we've
- 00:53:32
talked about what kind of repair stations can do installations of parts so would you be able to expect to buy a new weapon and have it installed at a lower-end station or the only is that the kind of stuff that you quit for are we kind of limiting I would what kind of repairs know that like low-end one of the differences is again my god it feels like just instinctually that you would want them to just they'll top you off like they can repair your ship get you come on get me flying again and you can be out the door but you know if you want to buy a new car stereo like you're not going to a gas station to do that you know and maybe the fuel options is the other thing that we can introduce at the high end one word like we we've talked which is still in the design process
- 00:54:19
about having different kind of benefits for different kind of fuels that you'll see like you know maybe this is a quieter burn a more efficient burn but once you go for longer or it's a faster versus other stuff so because I have on the Tecla exactly so maybe the low end station used by gas and at the higher one there's a full menu where you get to select exactly what kind of nuance you want there a great heart chat is saying it seems to me that they're forgetting the purpose of real world stops there were places for truckers and later families to pull over into sleep yeah I have a colon and know it's like what kind of like do all of them have rooms for rent yeah like we haven't done in the R&R but maybe the high-end ones have life whatever their version of the easy have is or maybe as the station's spread out with this new procedural generations we
- 00:55:08
introduce easy haves into the RNR right yeah do the different tiers of yeah again it feels like the lower and ones probably wouldn't have that type of or they'd have the sleep cubicles that they'll have in Japan yeah we just take it take the one out of the old 300 I just put a rack of them yeah I mean again like there was a the the Seoul Airport was really interesting because they had a hotel inside the terminal that you could rent for like five hours there they're converting an old terminal in New York right now into it into a hotel and into it like an hour not hourly but a short-term upstate hotel right now it's all good so I got it's the old TWA terminal that they're converting look what are they or Jessica
- 00:55:56
I think it's in JFK but I'm not sure but but one of the old TWA terminals is being converted into a retro themed hotel for people that have lay overs to stay over their stuff yeah it's interesting because I like I had a five a six hour layover and I was severely contemplating like just because you could put your bag down you don't have to like walk around stuff like it it was really interesting and yeah the rooms are I mean they're very bare-bones but you know you don't need much it's like a bathroom a shower and a bed and TV so we are actually out of time what all right already well so um let's go ahead and take a look at the doclet let's see what see where we're at right now obviously this is a process that takes longer than just an hour yes as we as we demonstrated but let's let's go through it you can actually follow along with that with the page there's a Jeremiah
- 00:56:43
good jeremiah JJ Wow I mean it's all true that everyone knows JJ stands for Jeremiah James it's too many J names in this company so so let's see let's scroll up a little bit generally I see it so so what kind of shops would you expect in each so we got three low-end less brand-name restaurants if they were focused on many machines more automated services more name brand stores fewer live people more terminals or automation stores tend to sell multiple types of things and then of course the realization that we've had kalto sitting there for years and maybe this is maybe this is where we finally pulled the trigger on that and then of course you have follow up with us for design you we got up we get we got a follow up with them and get their requirements like what are they what are they envisioning happens in a low-end station because you know the tale
- 00:57:30
doesn't always wag the dog here : and again I mean again with all the stuff it's you know it's a process of like we we kind of bounce ideas they go yes no how about this we go oh three that's cool and and bounced around in the edges or points economy of selling stuff do they need places to sleep limited repair and refuel okay let's keep going down JJ we got oh there's hi that's definitely a high end pipe repeating yeah thank you hey it's not Bruce Wayne Michael Caine it from wait did you temper did you ask that that's actually specifically from Batman Returns yeah you can tell because of the content all right that's definitely a Batman Returns color to there so let's scroll down can i we got the bottom of that yes
- 00:58:17
revel in New York can art support a visual aesthetic with their work because there was a reveler hangers were developed quite a long time ago and I think they were actually done with with a part of that work was done by a behavior at that time though so dip different team working on stuff today emphasize closings non-critical shops clothing stores hair salons medical facilities with these have rooms French proprietary brands would they have hanging associations more windows non-critical spaces this is where I think you really hit on things son rooms for plants art gallery sculpture I would love to see an art gallery and we have we have so much we have so much concept art for all these different systems and it would be great to you know they have a place inside the game as as visual represents artistic representations of real world their real universe star
- 00:59:04
systems and stuff yeah and building that as a module so that like we could put it into the generation system would be pretty neat so that it has like this music space with the water fountain and sometimes you end up with our gallery and stuff like that how you handle advert advertising the high-end station we don't want it to look like that ad truck stop from from Spaceballs right hello it's a very cool space Gus's guzzler yeah now that is a mic heating from the first who's wearing the same turtlenecks was probably yes I think that's the scene where he it's remembering Napier shot as like when Vicki Vale is about to come out well that would be from the first movie yeah so was he wearing that turtleneck on both movies all right so anything else a you know you want to leave people with before we take off no we'll definitely update like in game hopefully with what
- 00:59:53
we come up with thank you so much for being with us we did this thought exercise yeah I hope it was entertaining here let's go now we'll have a segment later on in the quarter about the act about the visual representation of what they're working in here with our own ad Hilditch working he was working on that right now and we're waiting for him to get a little farther down the line before we before we showcase it it's pretty awesome stuff yeah so yeah thanks for tuning guys has been another episode reverse the verse thank you again as always to Dave and will for coming on the show and helping me fill an hour I love these you know it's the these things that get to show process to you raw like this is some of my favorites and I hope the folks who watch I think so too so yeah and then we'll see again
- 01:00:43
next week we've next week we've got a gameplay mission designer Luke Presley who's we're actually going to go through the Pacheco mission with kind of director's commentary right from as Luke Presley and I think one more you're gonna take us through and tell us how they develop that a great and it's another type of thing we've never done before so we're gonna give that a try next weekend so awesome good stuff see you then Michael Keaton if you're watching let us know yeah let us know Mike thank you for watching so if you want to keep up with the latest and greatest in star citizen the squadron 42 development please follow us on our social media channels see you soon you thanks for watching for the latest and
